Good question. Seriously. I think the very limited Republican presence may have helped. Gowdy would have asked for specific dates, and if one was offered, specific documentation.
Also, I think there were so many people being interviewed and part of the process that everyone may have assumed someone else would manufacture the evidence. After all, they weren't the important people who came up with the conspiracy. Instead, they were just the conspirators who would spread the message to all of the friendly media whores. Besides, Orange Man Bad would be impeached and convicted, Democrats would rule all of Congress and the White House, and this would all be forgotten.
So, why not tell the truth when the transcripts will never see the light of day?

You'd think that even though he recused himself from supervisory responsibility of the investigation, he would use his position to at least determine the veracity of any information coming from that office. He could then use his position as a bully pulpit to talk about what he sees.

They also totally mis-calculated on this when they ran the standard plays against Kavanaugh. PDT had Kav's back.

As of late, President Trump, friendly toward media outlets favorable to him, has taken a keen interest in One America News, a little-watched channel that arguably has more in common with a state-run propaganda network than a credible news organization.

Also, Those Who Will Not Be Mentioned were a) superior in every way to NeverTrumpers and b) right. That they are competitors (or were, anyway) in the same market means that Those Who Will Not Be Mentioned cannot be praised. It would mean directing attention and accolades to the other, better business.
But not to worry. NeverTrumpers are no longer competitors to Those Who Will Not Be Mentioned. Those Who Will Not Be Mentioned have hoovered up the followers and money by virtue of providing a better, more honest product while NeverTrumpers are left scrounging for loose change in the cushions of fainting couches.
Karma can be a pleasant antidote.

I've been sober for more than 30 years and scarcely ever look at the stuff. I was horrified by the prices.

I worked there, when Buckley was in his prime, in an internship. Glorious experience and he had a first class mind. His sister Priscilla was no slouch either.
Both of them were supremely confident, and the rube "elite" class in NY paid them obeisance recognizing both their ability and that their confidence allowed them not to give a damn about other people's opinion
Lowry and the current crew at NR lack both the well honed excellence of mind and the insouciance to applaud and promote less popular views.
The only place that I still see a bit of fidelity to what Buckley founded is in the Pro-life positions.
A shame what has happened to them, but not surprising. Brilliant founders rarely sustain themselves (for other evidence, look at Apple)
