80 Tomorrow will be fun.

Me, an 8 lb. sledgehammer, and what's left of a 25 ft. long, 3 ft. high, 18in. thick, concrete topped, brick landscape wall.

Two months ago, an F-150 landed on top of it, coming to rest on the left side of the truck.

Said truck became airborne due to the impact of an early '90s Honda Civic, piloted by its suicidal driver into the truck at a speed estimated by police accident reconstructors at +/- 80 mph.

Circumventing the details, it's transpired that the HOA did not have insurance in effect on that particular esplanade, as the City did not notify the HOA that it transferred the deed.

So, the HOA will buy the materials, and I'll supply the skill and most of the labor, to finish demolishing what's left of the old wall, and then rebuild its new replacement.

I think I'll actually enjoy my Monday, save for the sweltering heat and humidity.

94 Too much goopy stuff on the burger. Older I get, the fewer condiments I like on a burger. Years ago, I would drool over one of those deals with all of the stuff oozing and dripping. Now: 1 condiment max. But I've come to appreciate quality. Great meat and bun can greatly outweigh all of the add-ons.

One of the best burgers I ever had didn't even have cheese. Just fresh-ground meat, great bun and a slice of onion.

Mel Brooks was at the Chicago Theatre last year with that movie & the Q&A afterwards, I thought about going BUT the year before that I went to an evening with John Cleese - which was seriously expensive - and he revealed himself to be a virtue-signaling liberal twit as the Monty Pythons might say.

What was amazing was that he kinda tap-danced around the fact that there are parts of Great Britain that no longer feel British (his words) but he's too invested in being the right kind of person not a deplorable who holds the wrong sorts of opinions.

I couldn't remember the details of Frank and Marie's fork and spoon, other than it was funny, so I looked it up.

They got them as a wedding gift. Both of them hated it -- Marie said they had "no nuance" -- but got in an argument about who would return it. Marie stormed out, and Frank then nailed the spoon to the kitchen wall.

Marie's retort was to nail the fork up, higher than the spoon. So she won. Debra convinces her to take them down, but she can't because the imprint has been made in the wall paper over all those years.

Interestingly, they had continuity problems, because in some previous episodes, the spoon was higher than the fork. They must've had to rebuild the set, and that little detail slipped through.

The sight picture, holdover and "come up" in the scope must've been a helluva thing, too.

And whatever ballistic calculator the shooter & spotter used to frame that shot? Yes, want.

A few months, I got the craziest recording on the voice mail for the land line phone. It was two women talking, the recording picking up the middle of the conversation. One was upset about something, a man of course, and the other was consoling her.

I was wondering what the ever lovin' hell, then realized it must've been a butt dial or something close. My number was randomly dialed.

And I'll bet you like a whole lot that if you picked up the conversations of a random sample of women talking to each other, the majority would be about some man.

you can improve vodka some with more filtering but not enough to fool a vodka expert. the vodka expert tried something like seven different samples which had been filtered different amounts and he was able to place them in order from least to most filtered.

the bullet drop show was interesting because they went to an old abandoned runway or something and set up a target and an aim point. cannot remember exactly how they did it but they showed the aimpoint was something like thirty above the target. may have had him aim directly at the aim point and then the bullet dropped down to the target.

This is why I haven't been to a concert -- and very few guest lectures -- in ages. Fear of the LibLecture.

I adored Bette Midler. Saw her live a couple of times (very true to her live album from the 70s, best evah), and she was amazing.
I won't be spending money on her concerts anymore. Turned down a trip to Vegas for that reason.

Makes me sick, and sad.

421 386 305 re Rich/Dotcom

I posted this on the gun thread:

" See if you can spot the non sequitur:

(Aug.) NBC4: "There had been a struggle. His hands were bruised, his knees are bruised, his face is bruised, and yet he had two shots to his back, and yet they never took anything." ...

Hillary Clinton spoke about Rich on Tuesday morning, amid remarks in New Hamphire on gun violence.

"Just this past Sunday, a young man, Seth Rich -- who worked for the Democratic National Committee, to expand voting rights -- was shot and killed in his neighborhood in Washington. He was just 27 years old," she said. "Surely we can agree that weapons of war have no place on the streets of America."

Did you spot it?

She said "weapons of war" as in "assault rifle". That's a nice touch trying to blame the NRA...but the police never said what kind of gun was used.

It would be very interesting if it was a rifle, no?

Message: "I care. No, I mean I really, really care. About secrecy."

btw Zero Hedge has the latest on Kim Dotcom's claims about Rich and himself supplying WikiLeaks. He seems to have the contemporaneous tweets to back it up. And he claims Hillary personally signed the request to get him extradited to America on a separate beef. I bet she did. ".......

Since I'm playing Perry Mason, I watched the news clips from August. The reporter said he was walking home from work. That would have been known by those familiar with him. He was a block from his house. His address would have similarly been known. He was talking on the phone to his girlfriend who heard noises. But he said he'd be home soon and said goodnight. Was whoever made those noises known to him? Or not perceived as a threat somehow?

Anyway, I do know this: Watergate started as a small blurb in the police blotter, too. Come to think of it, Hillary was around then, too.

430 Dear Penthouse:

I've been trying to work on my health, and have been eating better and doing a bit of exercise. Well, my doctor suggested I find a younger man.. and wow! I was gobsmacked!

I immediately returned home, thought about my recent experiences with people, and went online. I ordered a full home security system including a doorbell camera, decided to screen every single call, and have begun experimenting with how many days I can go without actual human contact. The cat and I have never been happier.

An antisocial-ite

really though it is not that simple. while I do not really need the day to day person to person contact, to say I go completely without contact is not true.

really I spend hours and hours every evening at a site which could fairly be described simply as softcore politics. nothing but hours and hours of me giggling and sighing at political vitriol and promises of spankings. spankings, spankings, spankings, lots of spankings, lots and lots of spankings. then there are the ritualized panda beatings. oops gotta go, I have a doorbell camerashow in five mins. have to get my ewok costume.

There's also information in the Reddit conspiracy area.

Personally, I want Sean Hannity to bust it open-- with Kim Dotcom (who is the ultimate anti-hero) and maybe even Newt Gingrich. Who, on live tv, came out and said that Rich was assassinated. Not murdered.

I've always thought that Hannity was kind of a dope, but in the last year, he's been amazing. I'd say better than Rush. Which is why I want him to be in on this. Another underdog.

I was lying on my back porch just a-getting some sun
Had my hair done up in pigtails had my swimming suit on
I was just about asleep when there came a shadow over me
I opened up my eyes to peek and what did I see-ee
There was a man what a man looking down on me
Tall dark and handsome, six foot three
There was a look in his eyes that was telling me
He knew that there was something that he wanted to see
He said "Hi my name is Peter
And I'm here to read your meter
I'd like to see your kilowatts
Could you take me to your box"
I didn't have the slightest notion where that box could be
But I said to Peter won't you follow me
We went upstairs downstairs inside and out

478 Another thing I did not know, but just learned. Meri Wilson was the one who sang "Peter, the Meter Reader". I remember that, but that wasn't her first one.

The first one was "Telephone Man", the same double entendre lyrics about her calling a telephone man out to install a phone. One line is about him asking what kind of ringer she wants, she can have a "ding-a-ling".

She was apparently a one trick pony, doing many songs like this, including "Dick the DJ" and "Santa's Coming".

Sadly, she died in 2002 in Georgia, where she lived, killed in a car wreck, losing control in icy conditions.

In 1999, she made an updated version of "Telephone Man", called "Internet Man", about some dude coming out to hook up her internet.

Although I remember Peter the Meter Reader, "Telephone Man" was a bigger hit. SHe sang locally in Atlanta for 20 years.

Prayers for you, Beth, that God will restore your peace and joy and that he will lead you to the right medical professionals.

Please go see a psychiatrist. Depression is easily treated in most cases, sometimes by Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation that doesn't even require medication.

Panic attacks can also be treated, too. Besides medication, look into Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, or CBT. It essentially refrains your brain to no longer respond to triggering situations with a panic attack. Medication and CBT is a good combination.

I mentioned this to you the other night but I want to continue to let you know that I care.

Listen to some of Jelly Roll Morton's risque recordings. Absolutely explicit, and they were made in the 1930's. You can find them on the yutubes. Would never get airplay, but really weren't intended for broadcast.

Questions are always good. It always comes back to one thing though: what do you think is right?

If an asshole agrees with you? Does that make you wrong because he agrees with you? Or is it merely a data point?

I still say that 99% of the 'racism' out there is people just rebelling against what they see as the current zeitgeist.

Are they assholes? Sure.

Are they morons? Probably. I think everyone is an idiot, including myself on more than one occasion.

Racism is tribalism of the meanest sort. However, in general, it cannot survive contact with the object of the ism, so to speak.

It is like the old Dennis Miller line: "Why hate someone for the color of their skin- when if you take the time to really get to know them, there are so many better reasons to hate them for?"

While it wasn't a dream, I did have one instance of spooky premonition. I was driving home one night, and I would've been in my mid to late 20s or so, would've been around 1990 or so.

Anyway, on this road there's a section of several near hairpin curves and little hills. A local church sits on this road before the hair pin curves. Right before I got to the church, I had this feeling of intense dread come over me. I mean really something.

This caused me to slow down and nearly stop. Right in front of the church. Then, I saw the lights. There was this lunatic, perhaps drunk who had come around from the last curve on the wrong side of the road.

Had I not slowed down, I would've likely hit him head on in that curve.

Now, that was spooky and makes me wonder.

507 I remember a dream I had maybe 20 years ago.

My grandfather died when I was in 8th grade. He was one of the best men I have ever known. Career Army. Served in WWII and Korea. The prototypical Grandfather.

A couple years after he passed away, I had a dream. We would always visit my grandparents in El Paso every summer. We would drive up to their house and he would come out and greet us. In the dream I knew he was dead, so I was shocked when he came around the side of the house and greeted me. He asked me why I was crying and I hugged him and said I missed him so very much. It was such a perfect moment of peace and comfort.

Sure, it was just a dream. Right.

Another good one, I mean really disturbing was one that happened to a guy I knew. He's gone now, but we were talking about spooky stuff, and he had a lulu. He was in the Air Force years ago, and was stationed at some base, living there with his wife.

One day, he was on the job at the base and got a call. His wife had been killed in a car accident, going to town. He said they called him out and had him identify the body, and he fell apart. He was at home that night, and was making arrangements. Her family was coming out. His was as well, and they were planning all that out.

He goes to bed. When he wakes up, there is his wife, in the bed with him as always. It was the start of the same day where she was killed. He told her not to go anywhere that day. Don't leave the house.

He says that whole day was a real as anything, and he just can't explain it.

At the risk of sounding like the village crackpot, I have had two visitations: one in 1979 with my grandmother immediately after her death, and one in 2007 with my husband, immediately following his death. Both visitations were extremely vivid and real, and each visitation started with an "announcement," as if by a narrator, who said: "THIS IS SIGNIFICANT."
