There are exceptions to this --Hendrix doing "Watchtower"; Santana doing "Black Magic Woman"; Johnny Cash , "Hurt" and Sonic Youth covering "Superstar." In all these cases, the cover version goes places the original didn't and thus the cover artist makes it their own.

Oh I saw a documentary about that. It was an old song, but Dave van Ronk claims that he invented a new chord progression for it. Dylan (he claims) stole it and put it on his first album.
So then Van Ronk was playing "his" song and people said why are you covering the Dylan thing? Then the Animals did their version and they started asking Dylan why he was doing the Animals song.

Good news: the Epson printing quality, *while it worked,* was very good, just as much so as all my HPs. Pictures came out great too. And I have an LD Products company store close by me, so I was always able to get remanufactured ink tanks for $6.99 each.
Bad news, and the dealbreaker: About two months ago, it inexplicably *stopped printing black ink.* I have tried everything, changing ink, using a NON-remanufactured ink tank... nothing works. And when I looked for a fix online, the only one I could find was: Epson printers are built to break, get another make next time.
So, sigh, I'm back to HP.

The problem is I *know* it wasn't just the ink tanks, because switching out the black didn't make any difference and I read having the machine cleaned out would cost more than I spent for the dang thing.
Screw it, back to HP. At least the new one I'm getting will have *two* paper trays, so I won't have to switch out regular paper and photo paper anymore. And it uses the old 2-cartridge "black/color" system.

And since it's music night, we practiced outside tonight to use for the first time the PA we're going to use for bigger outdoor gigs and indoor venues where they'll want more volume.
EAW mains, QSR sub and power amp. Beringer board which is way cool. Hardware is just a loaf oc bread size box to plug mics into. All controls run on an I-pad on the front mans Mic stand.
Only took about 20 min to dial it in,,, drums and all.
Sounds great. Looking forward to next weekend gig with it.

It's amazing that artists have such periods of creativity they just give away songs.
Springsteen wrote Because the Night and gave it to Patti Smith.
Prince wrote Manic Monday and gave it to the Bangles, then wrote Nothing Compares to U and gave it to Sinead.
These guys were just in the zone and it was nothing to say "oh, here's a hit that will last a lifetime".

schedule to see if it'll be included.
I would check it out - it looks like an incredible film. The filmmakers used a drone to get some shots, so there are these incredible vista's of steppe and mountains. Almost John Ford-like. And I think there's a "Nanook of the North" aspect to it. I don't the people in the film really knew what the filmmakers were doing - what it really meant to have a film made about them. And the girl - you've got a 100+ lb. eagle flying at you, with talons that could rip your eyes out in an instant, you're on horseback, and it's supposed to land on your hand. And there's a heck of a father-daughter story. And evidently there's footage of the "village elders' discussing whether they should really let a girl eagle hunt.

It's got to where I take a USB drive to Office Despot, and print on their high speed, high quality machines.
Still cheaper than dealing with dried up cartridges and un-renewable print heads.
That's where the Epson dies, too. If they'd let'cha click in a new print head for a reasonable price, I'd keep the printer for damn near ever. It does a great job, but I don't use it enough, so it dies.

I've been working with a freelance client for several years, and they asked me to put in a bid on re-doing all the text of their e-commerce website. It's a huge project that needs to be done in eight weeks. To make a long story short, I have twisted myself in 100 different knots to make the pricing work and have given them several different pricing options.
However, they want it fast, cheap and good.
They don't seem to understand you can only have two out of three.
Today I got an email from their UK office saying that my rate isn't in their budget at all and asked if I could do it for 17% less. Which means several thousand dollars less for me. Basically, I'll do the same amount of work, they'll get the same quality (for their website and product packaging) and I'll get a lot less money.
So, tomorrow morning I'm sending them a very polite 'thanks, but no' email.
Sigh. I need to just give up, get a job at a bookstore and start collecting money from Uncle Sugar like everyone else in the USA.

Far out. I would really encourage you to go. At these film festival screenings, you never know who will be there. I know the father and daughter were at Sundance. I saw them interviewed - they were totally out of their element. And I don't mean that as an insult, I mean that as a compliment. They were REAL people. In Toronto - maybe the filmmakers will be there, and they'll talk afterwards. You can get an awful lot of additional info at these film fests.

How is the wall different than Light Rail? I who will never benefit from the light rail in Minneapolis get my money taken to pay for it and I am way across the Hennepin county border. They take my money all the time to build and pay for crap all the time. If the money flow out of the US to Mexico is larger then the money flow in. Hell yes we can make Mexico par for the wall as easily as we can tax our own citizens..

The drug cartels deal in billions and billions. There is no way they could do business without using the banking system. In fact, the big banks are up to their eyeballs in laundering money for the cartels. And Uncle Sam benefits as well. The Cayman Islands banking system is one of the biggest holders of US debt, 3rd or 4th largest foreign holder.
All they ever do is just give the banks a slap on the wrist if the drug money handling is so obvious they have to do something.
I've read claims that really cracking down on drug money circulation through the banking system would actually cause a little crash -- a little seize up in the system until you adjusted for it.
The War on Drugs is nothing but a hypocritical sham.

Another really good cover album IMO is "The Anatomy Of" by Between the Buried and Me. It's really impressive if you compare it to their normal stuff - they really have a lot of range. I'm actually not a huge fan of their original material, but some of the covers on that album are great.

Just got through the Zappa Stairway to Heaven cover.
Someone said Zappa looked bored. He always looked aloof.
I was most fortunate to see him several times.
One time I saw him not so aloof was when the Mothers were the homecoming band at my college (seriously - guess where & when) and at one quiet point, some guy in the audience called out, "EAT ME FRANK!" Zappa did a long pause, smiled, and managed to say, "I hope that's a girl with a deep voice!"
Oh, he was also delightfully genial introducing guest star "Mister Sting" at a great concert in Chicago.

An odd thing I don't understand: composers like Handel and Bach remained creative all their lives, rock stars generally dry up after a few good albums. I couldn't handle more than a couple minutes of that. First he lies that the intention of O-Care was to slow the rate of increase. Then he chooses the 2000-2010 timeframe as comparison which ignores that rates were significantly slowing after 2005 when HSA's really started to kick into gear. Oh, and I never heard of a significant crisis of insurance providers in rural areas except after O-Care decided counties, instead of states were just great community sizes.

.Looks legit. It is a poll of likely voters. One disturbing thing is there is 19% don't know or refused. That's quite a bit this close to the election. 1/5th of likely voters either won't say or don't know who they are voting for is yuuuge at this point.
Rasmussen did a survey on the issue of hidden Trump voters this week:
"A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 17% of
Likely Republican Voters are less likely this year to let others know
how they intend to vote compared to previous presidential campaigns."
So it does appear that there are a significant number of Trump voters out there that polling is not picking up.
