Actually I have a sad tale to tell of my near encounter with the '69 Miracle Mets.
About a week or so after they won the series, my dad took me and my brother to see the Ed Sullivan show where the entire team was supposed to come out and sing "You Gotta Have Heart." So, we sit through several hours of the usual Topo Gigio, Jose Jimenez and chihuahuas juggling bears juggling plates to the tune of Khatchaturian's "Sabre Dance."
Finally, Sullivan comes out, "well now you know, the world's champion NY Mets will come out and sing 'You Gotta Have Heart." I get all excited until . . . "we've pre-taped that, so let's move on."
My dad, me and my brother loudly gasped "what?!" I was shattered.

.The worst they can do is destroy the Primary Control Room which would automatically Scram the Reactor doing absolutely nothing, and I seriously doubt they would get that far unless they stormed the place with 50+ well armed knowledgeable guys. Nuke plants are very hard targets to take out and that is on purpose. I used to be security at one and I couldn't tell you how to make the whole place go boom. You ain't getting to the core and blowing that up.

Years ago I bought a home across Plymouth Bay from the Pilgrim Nuclear plant in Plymouth, MA. I didn't realize it but my town periodically set off their warning sirens as part of a nuclear fallout plan.

Exactly so, and the distributed nature of said facilities makes a key strike unlikely, as well as the somewhat remote (from the rest of the country) location.
Ask yourself this: which would most impact your local real estate values - potential buyers knowing there was a spill/fire 10 miles away or a nuclear "accident" 10 miles off...

At some point the military has to take over from civilian security or we will start having anti-aircraft batteries etc being operated in civilian areas by civilians.
I can't discuss why US power plants are hardened targets because that information is classified.

When I left the currency exchange place refused to do the exchange back to dollars because the currency was so unstable they couldn't peg it properly. 4 days.

Had the same problem in India a couple of years back. We're talking about an Emerson College poll that I printed the methodology to the other day. This one has a plus or minus 5% margin of error on the head to head between Trump and Cruz.
You can get just as accurate predictions by pissing on the dried bones of bats then interpreting the drip pattern.

You'd think Boot might be disturbed by Hillary's other activities in Libya, like setting up her own off the books intelligence group (and sharing intel with them, I assume), potentially sending in private soldiers to the border (based on emails), and sharing intel/colluding with a civilian business man who was set to gain a lot of clients if/when Qaddafi was ousted --- and funny that, he was, by Hillary.
Why would he or anyone else expect Hillary to act within the bounds of the law if she were POTUS?

I've spent a lot of time in Buenos Aires and it sure seems a lot safer than Baltimore. As far as the government taking things, the trick is not having anything for them to take. Rent. Keep your money in the U.S. and wire in what you need.
The big thing is what the quality of life is for the dollar. For the same amount of money, can you rent a luxury apartment there for the same as a hovel here? Eat out every night as opposed to twice a month? Have a housekeeper, driver and cook or do it all yourself?

Barack Obama has a 50% approval rating. Hillary Clinton is winning in the polls. This is because people have chosen not to pay attention. Even the most rabid liberal will admit that things have not gone according to plan. There is no justification for their performance. But social pressures have erected a mental barrier to admitting that. It's denial.
People need to be coaxed, nudged, or tossed over that barrier. Events like the Brussels attack (or the Paris attack, or whatever is coming next) create an environment where that's possible, but *someone must then make the argument.*

I have a Citizen Aqualand Duplex dive watch that I've worn for years, dove with in three oceans, and so on. I needed to get the battery replaced so I took it to a Citizen-authorized dealer. The dealer told me they'd have to send it out because they didn't have the pressure testing equipment at the store. No problem, I get it. They call me a week later and have me pick up the watch.
Only one problem - the band is cut to pieces.
I ask "what the hell?!?" and they guy says "that's how we received it from you." I say "uh, no, that makes no sense...why would I give you the cut ends off a watchband anyway?" So I was raising a stink, pointed out that on the receipt they noted a scratch in the side of the casing but NO MENTION OF A CUT BAND and he threw a replacement band at me. Didn't even offer to install it.
Small consolation, the shop went out of business a couple of years later. But yeah, when I hear about watch shop shenanigans I can definitely relate.

You don't have to put your 401 k in the market. You can put it in a stable money market fund . Won't make anything but you won't lose. The 401K can still defer your tax bill and if your employer is doing any matching, not participating is just throwing money away.

Back in the day, Newport, RI was a play land of the uber rich. I'm talking about the Vanderbilts of the world. They built enormous mansions that they would refer to as their "summer cottages". One of them was featured in the opening scene of True Lies when it was portrayed as some European castle.
Most are still standing and almost all of them have been donated to the city and are open as tourist attractions because nobody can afford to pay the taxes. Way into the 6 figures annually.
When taxes are so high that it is cheaper to just give your house to the government, even if it's a mansion, something seems wrong.

Reminds me of a story though, about leaving things for service. A sailor on a cruiser at Nahfuk left his shoes in a local shop to be re-soled. WWII broke out on short notice, and as things happened he never got back there in the whole course of action. The plan says I become eligible for matching contributions if I make deferral contributions. I know they take 3% of my paycheck, is that what the deferrals are?
I really need to do more research. I've known what 401ks are for a long time and the principles behind them, it's the fine print details that I don't fully understand.

Moved into a newer car a few months ago and paying $250 a month for that. It was my dad's car (09 Accord ex) so I avoid interest payments and I got a very reliable car.

When looking at the funds you can choose, eliminate all actively managed ones - that means there is a human(s) picking stocks/bonds. This is both more expensive (paying the manager) and more likely to fail.
That means picking an index fund which is pegged to a market index. The broader the index (the more companies it tracks) the safer you are over the long term.
Check the cost ratio (should be just decimal points) and that it is no-load (you don't get charged for selling).

I think Ryan is a possibility. But they run the risk of further ruining him. While I'm not nearly as down on him as others, running him and then losing weakens him in the House.
What about Walker, Perry?
Perry makes the most sense to me for a lot of reasons. Reasonably acceptable to most factions within the party. Can credibly claim to be ready. Seasoned. And he has no where else to go. So you aren't risking his future status.

I could easily see it being Cruz. For lots of reasons. One, I think Cruz has actually prepared for this (though being prepared for something doesn't mean you can pull it out).
But I can also see it being Romney or Ryan.
The reality is that we just haven't seen this in a long time and this is no normal election. We are all just guessing right now.

The delegate rules are messy, as they are set by the state. Also, getting elected as a delegate is messy for the same reason.
Once they are unbound, it's not like the candidate they were tied to gets to say, "hey go support this other guy". They are free to make up their own minds.

If you're just getting into it, and defense is your motive, and you're only going to get one--get a 12 gauge. There's so many types of ammo, you'll find stuff that fits your needs with one gun.
2 guns? Get a carry pistol in a common and cheap caliber, and a rifle that shoots same. Keep your ammo costs down, that shit will eat your budget like Fat Bastard in a nursery.

I can see Cruz trying, and I can see the GOP making the pretense of considering him. Indeed, it may be necessary to make an appearance of considering someone who. ya know, actually was in the frickin primaries.
But if you've decided to fuck over your base, and ignore the primaries, why would you then turn around and nominate Cruz? You had four, count 'em, four desired guys flame out, and Romney is singing the praises of ....himself. So you would go for Cruz?

I'm not so sure about that. Doing that would destroy the repub party this time around. And if it's one thing we know about the shitweasels in the GOPe, it's that they'll do anything to hold on to even a fraction of the status quo.
We could see a scenario of them going ahead and letting Cruz or Trump be nominated and even elected prez, but then start turning the screws to undermine them every day of their term.

Yeah, Trump is the only one who has a chance of winning outright at this point.

My hope is that he reaches the magic number quickly so that all the shouting and screaming can get over before summer starts.
I'd like Cruz but there's no way he wins, because-
Cruz delegates by and large won't be delegates committed to Cruz. Most of the delegates are chosen by the GOPe within the states -
and are only committed to the first ballot - after that they will vote as their GOPe masters tell them to.
There will be two or three go-rounds of voting to make it look like a real thing but then, the "consensus candidate" will emerge and get the nom right off the bat.
Yay!
Romney wants a coronation- that's what he's working for. He may get it.
Ryan, bleh - he's a big pile of nothing.
Do not rule out Kasich:
He's the only candidate who's reading chapter and verse from-
"The Big Book of GOPe and Donor Class Wet Dreams"
and
"50 Things that George Soros Yanks It to"
He's even ruled in a Democrat VP - so that 'our betters' will definitely be back in charge after 4 years.
Right now, I'd place even odds on him making it.
The main thing to remember is that the GOPe is going to stack the convention-
with their bought and sold flunkies.
if there's not a clear winner on ballot one, there will be a series of fake dramatic votes-
2 or 3, maybe 4
and then the GOPe chosen candidate will emerge with a sudden astonishing victory.
So...yeah...great TV.
Great country? Not so much.

Again, I will point out that the GOPe does not by and large have control over delegates. Local party committees do and they are being taken over by conservatives.

You guys seem to be working under the misapprehension that the GOPe is in charge this year.
They are not. Nor are the existing rules likely to be changed at the Convention if no one goes in with 1237 as a majority of delegates would have to vote the changes in. No other candidates are going to be considered and Kasich won't meet the cut-off to be the nominee either.
This is the same doom and gloom thinking that insisted that Bush was going to be the nominee at the beginning of the primary season. That didn't happen and neither will anyone but Trump or Cruz.
