Yes, 1959 was an awesome year and this is an awesome accessory.

The gadget is called the Hertella-Auto Kaffeemaschine, and it was produced and marketed by a German company called Hertella in the late 1950s.
The Kaffeemaschine was a simple device that consisted of a metal container with a heating element, a filter basket, and a spout. It had no on/off switch, so it would start brewing as soon as you plugged it into the car’s cigarette lighter.

Prayer Requests:
7/29 – Thefritz asked for prayers for his son-in-law and his daughter, P.R.T and C.G.T. His son-in-law found a lump in a testicle and the doctors have ordered surgery. They have been trying to get pregnant and recently miscarried. They have been married less than two years, so this has left them fearful for his life and a future with biological children. Thefritz asks, “Dear Lord, please bring healing and calm to them. Give them strength together to deal with this. In Jesus’ name, I pray.” He also thanks the Horde in advance for their healing prayers.
8/26 Update – The tumor was diagnosed as a very rare form of cancer, but it was totally contained. He has recovered from surgery and was given a clean bill of health. Things look good. Thank you to everyone for their prayers.
8/3 – Tonypete asked for prayers for his friend Mike, who suffers from bone cancer and the disease has reached the end stages. Mike is very low and probably cannot hang on much longer. Prayers are also requested for his dear wife Judy. She has been a magnificent caregiver throughout Mike’s troubles. She is terrified that the final days have arrived and, as a very private person, it is very difficult for her to share her worries with anyone.
8/3 – Goddessoftheclassroom asked for prayers. She said she is hurting so much, on the fourth anniversary of her elder son’s death.
8/4 – San Franpsycho updated the Horde on his buddy Paul’s medical status. So far, all treatments are ineffective, and his tumor remains inoperable. He is a candidate for a drug trial at Mt. Sinai and they hope to hear soon if he was accepted. So far he is hanging in there!
8/19 Update – Paul’s drug trial starts on 8/21. Hopefully any side effects are mild.
8/30 Update – Paul went to the ER. Prayers needed, please.
8/5 – Screaming in digital heard that her sister-in-law’s mother is in ER with breathing problems. Prayers are appreciated.
8/26 Update – The breathing problems were RSV, and she has recovered. Her hubby also got it, and he is recovering.
8/5 – Grammie Winger said she would appreciate any prayers for her son.
8/5 – Mindful Webworker had some requests: MiladyJo has her first hip replacement surgery scheduled for the end of August. Praying it all goes well and she’ll be out of pain. While they were repairing GoodsonM’s busted leg, they saw heart problems. The cardiologist told him if he’d get his blood pressure down and lose some weight, he should be okay. So far he has dropped a bunch of weight, which is encouraging. Prayers for peace and happiness for Daughter and her husband. With MiladyJo and GoodsonM both being somewhat in capacitated, Daughter has been a huge help to them (driving, dog care, etc.) SonC, his wife, and their two kids (oldest just turned 6) remain estranged – and strange. No visits or contact for almost 2 years.
8/5 – RedMindBlueState provided an update on his buddy’s wife. Her cancer is stage 3. The surgery went well, but she’s in for a lot of chemo over the next 6 months. Thank you for all the prayers.
8/6 – Cybersmythe requests prayers for Parnell to recover from his cancer.
8/12 – Hrothgar asked for prayers for Gabriella, a lovely young lady with great promise, who was transferred from the hospital in Puerto Rico to one in Tampa to get advanced treatment for a very aggressive cancer. This past week showed this new treatment seems to be extremely effective and she has made a remarkable recovery. She is not out of the woods yet and still needs prayer support, but her outlook has improved so much that the hospital staff were celebrating it!
8/12 – Mk Y asked for prayers for the family and 3 year old son of Logan, his nephew, who was killed in a motorcycle accident.
8/12 – Moon_over_vermont received a diagnosis of stage 4 cancer in June. It is a type of cancer that typically responds to treatment, but it’s everywhere. The second chemo started this week. If his/her comments ever made you smile or you thought they were insightful, or if you can spare a passing thought or prayer, it would be appreciated.
8/19 Update – Thank you to everybody who replied to the prayer request last Saturday. So far the doctors are optimistic. There is a possibility that surgery may not be needed, but it will still be a long treatment.
8/12 - Tuna sends thanks for all the prayers after the death of her husband last month. She knows they were instrumental in being able to find a little peace of mind.
8/12 – Oddbob sent out an emergency prayer request for his 4 month old granddaughter. She had some sort of seizure on 8/11. They took her to ER and they did a bunch of test and found nothing. Then it happened again on 8/12, so they went back to the ER.
8/26 Update – Oddbob’s granddaughter has had more seizures and was admitted to the hospital over the weekend.
8/16 – P asked for prayers for her nephew R, out east. He suffers from Chiari malformation – his brain doesn’t quite fit in his skull, so part of it protrudes from the base. He has suffered all his life with migraines and dizziness, which makes it nearly impossible to keep a job. A neurosurgical specialist will operate on him on 8/21. Please pray that the operation is successful, and he will be able to live a much more normal life.
8/25 Update – The operation was successful, so far. He no longer has headaches and nausea. But he cannot yet bend, twist, or life anything, so he doesn’t know if that will trigger the symptoms again. Please keep praying for him and his wife, who is providing all basic body care now.
8/19 Eromero requested prayers for his friend Lloyd as he transfers from ortho rehab to assisted living. He is having some confusion and needs clarity of mind. Lloyd’s wife, and Mr. and Mrs. Eromero could also use prayers as they try to provide care.
8/19 – Coelacanth asks for continued prayers. There are problems with his son Cam. Cam has been concealing many things for many years and has been lying to his family. His mother is heartbroken.
8/24 Update – Cam is still suffering with his significant health issues, and his mental state is unstable. He is making decisions based on feelings, and guided by bad advice, will not consider his parents’ cautions.
8/19 – Sock Monkey could use prayers for his wife’s younger brother and his family. They lost everything in the Gray fire, west of Spokane. So far Sock Monkey is still at home, about 4 miles from the fire evacuation area.
8/19 – Free Tibet has a biopsy coming up and asked for prayers for a good outcome. He says it’s been a long two years.
8/23 – A concern was brought up in the comments that applies to many churches nowadays. Prayers are needed for churches (members and leaders) to remain faithful to the Bible. Some congregations are resigning from church denominations that have chosen to teach something other than Biblical Christianity. Some people are having to separate from their church homes, due to the false teaching occurring. Please pray for people to have the knowledge and strength to remain faithful to the Word.
8/23 – Tonypete asked for prayers for Miss R, which is having a procedure done. She sometimes has very poor reactions to them, so it’s a bit worrying.
8/26 – Tecumseh Tea requested for prayers for herself and her husband. They are going through a difficult time in their marriage. They are committed and will see it through, but asks for prayers that God will heal their marriage and help them each see what needs to change.
8/26 – Jewells45 posted that she could use prayers. Her last round of chemo was tough on her.
8/26 – Dash my Lace Wings asked for continued prayers. Her husband is still sober but needs to develop some interests to keep his mind and body busy – something that will give him joy and purpose in life.
8/26 – Farmer Bob provided an update. Mrs. Bob came for a weeklong visit, but she only stayed a day. She said reconciliation was too much work, and that she was feeling too free and unburdened without him and the kids, and so she left without saying goodbye to the girls. She has been posting party pictures to Facebook that the girls are seeing, which is hurting them. And she has served Farmer Bob with divorce papers. On the bright side, he has lost 115 pounds, started flight school, and most importantly, is closer to God and his girls than ever.
8/26 – Fox2! requested prayers for an old friend, T, who lost her husband unexpectedly. She is not amused by all the contradictory information and direction she is getting from her husband’s employer, insurance, and soon to begin adventures with the local probate court. And then she had to put her horse down. Prayers are greatly appreciated.
8/26 –Don Draper said his mother is expected to pass this week. Prayers, good wishes and thoughts are again requested, this time for her soul to have a safe journey. Thanks to all who gave prayers before.
8/27 – ghbucky asked for prayers for his oldest brother’s wife (both in their 80s and very dear to him) has been hospitalized and intubated due to pneumonia, likely due to covid. This means she cannot have visitors and his brother is under quarantine. She is very feeble and has been dealing with circulatory issues. Ghbucky fears the worst.
8/28 – Fenelon Spoke is concerned for a friend of a friend named Mike (age 39) who had major gastric surgery. He is now on breathing apparatus because he wasn’t doing well. The nurses are on strike, so the patients are not getting the care they need. Prayers are appreciated.
8/29 – Swodog asked for prayers as the hurricane was headed toward his house. The family is all safely inland, but their home may be washed away.
8/29 – Mpfs requested prayers for healing of his tooth, which turned out to be a fistula, and very painful. Oral surgery is scheduled.
8/30 – Debby Doberman Schultz asked for prayers. Her husband passed away on 8/30, with her sitting beside him, holding his hand. The kids had been in and out, but the end it was like the beginning - just the two of them. As painful as it was, she wouldn’t have it any other way. She is so gratified that he is relieved of his suffering.

This guy was a major Parrothead. Went to see Buffet every time he came into town. Had all of his albums etc.

My uncle is not doing at all well, mentally or physically.

Please pray that the afflicted be healed and the torn relationships brought about by the affliction be repaired. God’s love shine down on them and pray that they know they are loved, for all things can be achieved through Christ who strengthens our hearts, our souls, and our minds. Enrich these lives with compassion and love, dear Lord, that they may one day smile again.

So far I'm down 10 pounds, the shoulder impingement has loosened up, he has a shitload of wood, and owes me big time.

In my area of the country meteorological definition of seasons makes more sense. March 1st as the first day of spring is nice. September 1st as the first day of fall, not so nice. December 1st as the first day of winter, is a toss up, as is June 1st for the first day of summer.

In this ICU, there is only room for one parent to sleep in each room. So they have a big room with beds for the second parents to sleep in. I finally got my toddler and wife both down around 1am, and went to bed in there.

Around 5am, about 250 pounds of wretched white trash bitch clad from head to toe in Lycra walks in, plops down and STARTS WATCHING JUDGE JUDY ON HER PHONE AT TOP VOLUME.

Under any other circumstances I would have bawled her out. But the other four dads in there and I said nothing, because nobody wants trouble on the ICU where their kids are. So I watched this shameful example of bad raising do her thing for about an hour before I went and retrieved a nurse to come make her stop. She acted about like you'd expect before she complied - as if the nurse were doing her an injustice.

But it was over. No more sleep for me

I bought a $300 electric/hydraulic wood splitter a decade ago. Does a decent job, but as Jack Straw mentioned frozen wood is the key.

If you consider 10 seconds to split a section of wood is too slow, then it wouldn't be for you.

Perfect weather in Michigan last week - highs in the mid-70s, lows in the 50s. A fall preview, as it were. We often get them in August.

Temps will be going up over the weekend so the A/C will be getting workout by Monday, but I've enjoyed having the windows open for the last few days. Also the lower electric bill.

I considered it for that reason. Realized before actually starting that it would mean I would spend my entire life with people I loathed and had nothing but contempt for. In all honesty, I don't know if I could have made it through the program anyway, and I couldn't afford a big name school.

Botanical genetics was my other main interest, but I figured out that, although I usually test well and had good grades, my brain refuses to retain formulae of any sort. That would have been "a problem".

190 NYS has always had the first day of school on the first Wed. of September. Many states start earlier. In some Florida districts they started in early August. Now some states have year around school with vacations at various times during the school year.
You could argue that school should start earlier than Labor Day. Of course the school tax bill around here always arrives just in time to ruin you Labor Day weekend. Couldn't they wait a few more days.

232 NYS has always had the first day of school on the first Wed. of September. Many states start earlier. In some Florida districts they started in early August. Now some states have year around school with vacations at various times during the school year.
You could argue that school should start earlier than Labor Day. Of course the school tax bill around here always arrives just in time to ruin you Labor Day weekend. Couldn't they wait a few more days.

246 Speaking of football, I'm debating whether its worth to hook up the TV antenna this year. We don't have cable or a dish because no one bothers with TV anymore. So if I want to watch games, I just hook up the antenna and watch 'em on the networks.

The Big Ten stupidly cut a deal with NBC, and their local affiliate's signal sucks, so other than Alumni Band, I probably won't see my team play this season. I listened to last night's game on the radio, which is fine.

Anyway, my kids became my focus and it is paying huge dividends in love once they became mature adults (i.e. mid 20s). Hang in there, and take a good long time before thinking about becoming serous about another woman (a mistake that I made).
