The gadget is called the Hertella-Auto Kaffeemaschine, and it was produced and marketed by a German company called Hertella in the late 1950s. The Kaffeemaschine was a simple device that consisted of a metal container with a heating element, a filter basket, and a spout. It had no on/off switch, so it would start brewing as soon as you plugged it into the car’s cigarette lighter. Before we enter the Prayer Revival let us go over a few rulz. 1) Feel free to opine, bloviate and/or lurk in this open thread. 2) Be nice. Be kind or something like that. 3) Remember, the local ER will be a busy place this weekend. Careful with those sharp objects. 4) Please enjoy your Labor Day Weekend.

A buddy and I were at a Texas Rangers game, when I suddenly noticed Jimmy Buffet and his band sitting not 8 people away on the same row. This guy was a major Parrothead. Went to see Buffet every time he came into town. Had all of his albums etc. so, I said to him, Hey, that's Jimmy Buffet. Why don't you say a quick hello or something." And he said, (almost an exact quote) No, because he might be a dick and then i couldn't like his music any more." So...fear or wisdom? Who knows? Anyway it made me laugh. The key to great firewood splitting is to do it when the temperature drops and the wood is frozen. It's like Forrest Gump catching shrimp after the hurricane, splitting frozen wood is easy.

Coffee. Yeah. Gonna be necessary.
In this ICU, there is only room for one parent to sleep in each room. So they have a big room with beds for the second parents to sleep in. I finally got my toddler and wife both down around 1am, and went to bed in there. Around 5am, about 250 pounds of wretched white trash bitch clad from head to toe in Lycra walks in, plops down and STARTS WATCHING JUDGE JUDY ON HER PHONE AT TOP VOLUME. Under any other circumstances I would have bawled her out. But the other four dads in there and I said nothing, because nobody wants trouble on the ICU where their kids are. So I watched this shameful example of bad raising do her thing for about an hour before I went and retrieved a nurse to come make her stop. She acted about like you'd expect before she complied - as if the nurse were doing her an injustice. But it was over. No more sleep for me Posted by: Yudhishthira's Dice at September 02, 2023 09:22 AM (pHH/Z) 60

A cousin has one of those mechanical wood splinters, he and his wife can do a lot of wood quickly. I bet their isn't one politician in DC who even knows what a wood splitter is. Maybe Biden can tell us a story about how he spit wood for the poor and downtrodden once in State of Delaware. Wasn't Lincoln advertised as being a rail splitter.

We can't stress this enough: this ATF Rule is a direct result of Republican-backed gun control. Specifically, it's called the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, or the Cornyn-Murphy compromise. GOA and our grassroots membership warned Sen. Cornyn and his colleagues that the act could be used in this exact manner; unfortunately, our warnings fell on deaf ears, and the gun control bill became law last year.

Posted by: Catch Thirty-Thr33 at September 02, 2023 10:28 AM (f0XAF) I considered it for that reason. Realized before actually starting that it would mean I would spend my entire life with people I loathed and had nothing but contempt for. In all honesty, I don't know if I could have made it through the program anyway, and I couldn't afford a big name school. I considered it for that reason. Realized before actually starting that it would mean I would spend my entire life with people I loathed and had nothing but contempt for. In all honesty, I don't know if I could have made it through the program anyway, and I couldn't afford a big name school.

Little divorce advice from a second wife here:
I understand the impulse to not advocate very strongly for yourself. It feels selfish and vindictive. But here's the thing -- after getting the best legal arrangement possible for visitation and support and all that, you can always be more generous than the official agreement. But you cannot be less generous than agreed and you cannot guarantee the same consideration from the other party. So get the best arrangement you can for your girls and yourself. On the other hand, when you are generous, do not allow the other party to exploit you. Generosity should not be manipulated out of you. Maintain healthy boundaries or else the people you love will suffer. Posted by: Emmie at September 02, 2023 10:48 AM (Sf2cq) 195

Hopefully Jimmy Buffett wasn't assaulting either of them. I don't think Shakers are much on modern items, and as they're celibate they weren't watching the Grammy Awards. Fox Sports has been pumping the heck out of the debut of Neon Deion Sanders at my alma mater (CU Buffs). Huge turnover of players when he took the job last spring. Something like 58 players left the team (which had a 1-10 record last year averaging over 30 point margin of defeat per game), and have been replaced via the transfer portal including Deion's son who will be the starting quarterback.

The Big Ten stupidly cut a deal with NBC, and their local affiliate's signal sucks, so other than Alumni Band, I probably won't see my team play this season. Late to the thread but prayers for all intentions - asked and those known but to God.

Farmer Bob. Good for you. My wife of 17 years kicked me out of the house after telling me that she had fallen out of love before we got married. She said she only got married because she wanted kids.
Anyway, my kids became my focus and it is paying huge dividends in love once they became mature adults (i.e. mid 20s). Hang in there, and take a good long time before thinking about becoming serous about another woman (a mistake that I made). And if you want to go to a councilor be damn sure its a male preferable one who has divorced. Posted by: Levin at September 02, 2023 11:17 AM (kk8TL) 272

I seem to recall that school began on the day after Labor Day in Austin when I was growing up. Since they started air conditioning the schools--they weren't when I was in elementary and junior high--the starting date has been moving earlier. Grandson started back in mid-August.
