One of my guilty pleasures is reading the AKC Secretary's Page for disciplinary actions taken against exhibitors, judges and breeders for various kinds of lamentable, if sometimes entertaining, violations. Event violations are often of the heat-of-the-moment type, like criticizing a judge's decision. These are often given a reprimand or an event suspension of a month or two and a fine of $100. Then there are the ones that make you say, "Damn, wish I'd been there to see that." "Action was taken by the Greater Ocala Dog Club for conduct at its November 16, 2013 event. Mr. X was charged with verbal abuse (inappropriate, abusive or foul language) directed personally to a judge and disruptive behavior at an event. The Staff Event Committee reviewed the event committee’s report and the penalty was set at a five year event suspension and a $10,000 fine, effective November 16, 2013. The city work stoppage comes amid a frenzy of organized labor activity in Los Angeles and across the country, including the first simultaneous strike of Hollywood writers and actors since 1960. I've always liked Hopper. His painting "NIghthawks" is in the Art of Institute of Chicago, and I loved to visit it when I lived there. Hopper's day job was as a magazine illustrator, and his paintings (apart from his paintings of lighthouses) seem to me to be illustrating a story that hasn't been written yet. I'm sure the Horde could do a good job with this one ...

Apparently the state is paying towns to ban cheap and effective fossil fuels and only allow electric for heating/cooking in new construction - but only a few towns at a time...likely because its expensive and people that live there hate the idea. But the way the newspaper covers this is people are being denied the option to...ban fossil fuels. Note you can build a new all electric house/apartment. Not the best Hopper, but a so-so Hopper is better than most art of the last 50 years. The lack of tells for windows, or the pretty basic mistake of not having blinds, distracts me. At first I thought "whey do they have a desk on the smoking patio?" but then I realized it's supposed to be a corner office and Hopper is WAY before the time of corner smoking patios. The light is oddly more bright, like desert light used in American Southwest art, than the hazy Midwest.
