Santa Maria della Salute (English: Saint Mary of Health), commonly known simply as the Salute, is a Roman Catholic church and minor basilica located at Punta della Dogana in the Dorsoduro sestiere of the city of Venice, Italy.

Also, from wiki:
In 1630, Venice experienced an unusually devastating outbreak of the plague. As a votive offering for the city's deliverance from the pestilence, the Republic of Venice vowed to build and dedicate a church to Our Lady of Health. The church was designed in the then fashionable Baroque style by Baldassare Longhena, who studied under the architect Vincenzo Scamozzi. Construction began in 1631. Most of the objects of art housed in the church bear references to the Black Death. Plague is one of the deadliest diseases in human history, second only to smallpox. A bacterial infection found mainly in rodents and associated fleas, plague readily leaps to humans in close contact. Plague outbreaks are the most notorious epidemics in history, inciting fears of plague’s use as a biological weapon.

From Italy Heaven, in part: Santa Maria della Salute was built 1631-1681 and dedicated to the Madonna in gratitude for the end of an outbreak of plague (the name means St. Mary of the Health). The church was an unusual shape at the time and is still striking today; taking the form of an octagon under a massive central dome. Once a year on the 21st November special masses are held to remember the city's deliverance from plague, and a temporary votive bridge is erected over the Grand Canal. The celebration is one of the most heart-felt in Venice, and is called the Festa della Salute. Thank you. Posted by: Lola - And the 1/6 videos from Jade, too. at June 02, 2023 09:40 AM (GshMh) 49

Beautiful painting. Interesting how the capitol dome is the visual draw, but when you embiggen, the focus seems to be on the men on the boats taking in the wonder of the sunset. The colorful sails pull you to the men who all seem to have their backs to the painter, esp the standing man in the white shirt.

Santa Maria della Salute, Sunset
William Stanley Haseltine Well la de da, this Haseltine fellow can paint. After a quick look through other paintings he utterly nails how the color of light changes over the course of day, how light is affected by clouds acting as filters or concentrators (spotlight effects), and can render everything with perfect color and saturation, based my staring at dirt, trees, and sky a whole bunch - lessor talents are always off just enough, sort of like Samsung cellphone photos are a cartoon show. Oh, and he didn't get thrown in prison, not even once. And my to my disappointment he never painted a single lesbian that I can find. Verdict: Would hang this with glee. Inspector thinks he got it from a dead rabbit he came across in, I think, Arizona. He knew the buboes needed expressed when they started to develop (which is also how he knew it was plague) so by the time he felt well enough to get to a Dr. there wasn't much to prove that's what the problem had been.
******* Yersinia pestis is not typically associated with rabbits. Another possibility for "buboes" or painful swollen lymph glands after handling a dead rabbit would be tularemia. Serologic testing may be available after the fact. Posted by: Dottore della Peste at June 02, 2023 10:12 AM (991eG) 136

No amount of de aging and cgi could erase deniro's old man shuffle. The awards banquet scene was notable in its length and importance. But watching Pacino and deniro have the Tarantino French big Mac conversation over and over git to be like club to the head.

Electric Cars Won’t Save the Planet
Greg Ganske (John Kass News): https://bit.ly/3Cbeqpq The [EPA] just proposed stricter emissions standards starting in 2027 that would require auto makers to boost sales of electric vehicles which accounted for just 5.8% of sales in 2022 to above 50% in 2030 and 67% in 2032. Just this last week the EPA proposed a rule that amounts to a death sentence for fossil fuel power plants by requiring carbon capture and green hydrogen technologies that aren’t cost effective or feasible. Forcing fossil-fuel plants, which provide more than 60 % of our electricity compared to 19% for wind and solar, to shut down will further endanger grid reliability. [ . . . ] The Biden administration’s war on internal combustion automobiles and jihad against natural gas electric plants won’t work. As a former member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee let me count a few of the ways that forcing taxpayers to subsidize EVs and making manufacturers abandon the ICE is poor policy. I read attendance is down at most of their races since the Great Noosing. Also, the banning of the Confederate flag. Posted by: Maj. Healey It used to be the case that you needed to know when the spring and autumn races were scheduled at Dover because they made driving through / by the track on DE 1 to get to the beaches in Sussex County were adversely affected by the NASCAR fans' traffic around there on those two weekends. That problem has lessened considerably -- or so I am told. Posted by: Krebs v Carnot: Epic Battle of the Cycling Stars (TM) at June 02, 2023 10:46 AM (pNxlR) 295

286. Verse usually under contest: No refuge could save the hireling and slave. From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave, And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave.
Came up during Trump time via Mark Cuban, Colin Kaepernick, etc. "Historians argue that Key was racist and enslaved men. He was in favor of freeing slaves but thought they should be shipped to Africa once free, according to the Washington Post." Others call BS. It's handy to stir up trouble. The [EPA] just proposed stricter emissions standards starting in 2027 that would require auto makers to boost sales of electric vehicles which accounted for just 5.8% of sales in 2022 to above 50% in 2030 and 67% in 2032.
How does that work? Posted by: BignJames at June 02, 2023 10:44 AM It means that automakers stop building ICE vehicles and only sell EVs (EVs, BEVs, HEVs). Which is what all automakers have been doing. Ford, GM, Stellantis all have stopped production of ICE vehicles and have switched to all EV-BEV-HEV vehicles only. That is the only way to meet the requirement. Basically don't give the customer an option to purchase an ICE vehicle. This is just like ESG where companies are forced to push woke bullshit. Only this is coming directly from WEF/government regulations and threat of massive fines forcing the hand of automakers. Nice racket the WEF and government have. Destroy the worldwide economy. Force companies to beg for ESG money. Force companies to follow ESG woke demands to receive the money. Create regulations impossible to meet without creating EV products WEF/government want.
