A critical Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) system suffered an overnight glitch, grounding flights across the US. The FAA posted an advisory notice early Wednesday which notes that the United States NOTAM (Notice to Air Mission) system “failed,” but just before 9AM ET, said, “Normal air traffic operations are resuming gradually.”

Glackens had a hand in acquiring the foundational works for the Barnes Foundation:
At this time, millionaire-inventor Albert C. Barnes, a classmate and friend from Central High School, began to study and collect modern art. He commissioned Glackens to buy him some "advanced" works while on a trip to Paris. Glackens returned from Paris with about twenty paintings, which included works by Cézanne, Renoir, Manet, and Matisse, formed the core of what became the Barnes Foundation Collection. Glackens also advised Barnes on later art movements and purchases.

I'm guessing that the reason those people are on the auto train in the first place is that they are ancient and can't drive to FL from NYC, (think of them doing 40 mph in the left lane of I-95 all the way down with the left turn signal on) so likely can't walk more than 20 feet.

Actually, he did touch on that. He said he interviewed a 70-something lady in Texas who claims to be the one who started the whole flashing phenomenon. She says she was a model then, and was comfortable with "showing off." Since that tradition began about 1979 during the police strike that winter/spring, she'd have been about 30 years old, so it fits.

The author quoted a college professor of economics who says the flashing stuff is a capitalist transaction, providing services in exchange for goods. I never thought about it like that. . . .

If I'm doing a pour-over, it's 18g coffee and 270g water, 1:15. That's for light roast. 20g coffee for medium. I think that's the same as the Brit youtuber uses.

That really only works if you grind your own beans. Once you're using someone else's grind, and a drip machine, that formula probably won't work.

It was destined for Iranian nationals in the UK, originated from Pakistan and arrived on a flight from Oman, The Sun reported.

A source said: “The race is on to trace everyone involved.”

The package, suspected of being smuggled to UK-based Iranians, arrived in the hold of a passenger jet.

Specialist scanners detected the potentially lethal uranium as it was ferried to a freight shed, triggering alarms.

Border agents swooped and isolated the unregistered shipment in a dedicated radioactive room.

Counter-terror police were alerted and a security probe launched into who sent the cargo.

It originated from Pakistan and arrived at Terminal 4 on an Oman Air jet from Muscat, The Sun reported.

Cops were understood to be targeting an Iran-based firm with UK premises where the material was due to go to mystery recipients. No arrests have been made.

336 Someone recommended "Athena" yesterday as a good action flick. So, we streamed it last night on Netflix.

"Athena" isn't exactly what you would think of as an action flick. Though there is plenty of action going on. It depicts an uprising and urban warfare in a Muslim ghetto in France trigger by the death of a Muslim;im youth attributed to police.

Just excellent direction. Well-mapped out steadicam shots, so the action/story is told in real time with long continuous shots. Acting is good. Characters well-defined. Lots of tension. And one thing the director does much better than the director of "1917" did was, keep the background filled with violence and action. Really well done. esp the shocking first 15 minutes or so. Cornholio was Beavis' hyped-up alter-ego.

428 When I was younger I made some hovercrafts (san eels) using plywood, plastic tarps, and leaf blowers with some other guys. We thought up a game that was like giant shuffle board where a guy gets on the hovercraft and other guys push him across a field. Once going the guy on the hoverboard uses whatever means available to try to hit a target or bump another guy in a hoverboard off the target. That would be a great game to catch on.

429 A technocrat wants to be in charge of every aspect of your life- regardless of flavor.

What we ascribe to being orderly or not is really put down to: whether the technocrat's obsession is order and things operating smoothly. The Germans- especially after the chaos of the 20s and early 30s, thirsted for stability. Hence the Nazis gave them what they wanted, on the surface at least. Japan was always rigid, and so their flavor of technocracy took on those characteristics.

The commies in Russia and now here thrive in the chaos of the moment. Here they had to break the system in order to gain power, so everything they do takes on a chaotic tenor. I'd argue that the Soviets never really shed the chaos, as every plan seemed half assed and baked. So unless you had a driving, unifying figure (who would immediately come under suspicion) on any project, everything was a goat rodeo. They do not really care if things work except in how it reflects on them. Mean Girl accountability.

430 Axe throwing is getting big now too. You'll see it at fairs and stuff. Sometimes indoor places where the axe range enclosed by a fence.
