A new study in the New England Journal of Medicine purports to show that mask policies in schools work to contain COVID. But that's not all: The authors conclude, "We believe that universal masking may be especially useful for mitigating effects of structural racism in schools, including potential deepening of educational inequities."
Sure, masks help fix structural racism. Why not? And the next study will show masking fights climate change.
No, what this study shows is that much of the medical establishment continues to be intensely woke -- and deeply dishonest because of it. Just as the "experts" told us gathering in crowds wasn't OK in spring of 2020, but just weeks later protesting for Black Lives Matter somehow was.
This dishonesty is going to hurt us all for a long time.
As for this study specifically: It does not prove what the authors intended to. It's just the latest in a push by agenda-driven scientists, and the media who love them, to get people back in masks.

Again, the problem isn't just with masking. It's that the medical establishment has gone fully woke. Wokeness goes hand-in-hand with forced conformity.
No one is allowed to step out of the woke lines -- though those lines are free to shift at any time. It's very Soviet.
Under those rules, you can't be critical of even this cockamamie study; you're supposed to see that someone squiggled some lines on a graph and pretends it "proves" something it clearly doesn't because you need to support your "side."
Inside the woke echo chamber, you even have to embrace insane ideas like "masking fights racism."
No one at the Times could write an article about how a study like this is gibberish. Medical professionals and journalists who point out the obvious, that the study makes no sense, will be quickly excommunicated.
It's sick, and it has to stop. This isn't science, it's politics -- and this woke cancer has to be fought until it's defeated.

Meanwhile, children are experiencing an epidemic in non-covid respiratory infections, because they've been locked down for two years and have not developed the basic natural immunities they were supposed to have developed by now.

The measures that helped keep us safe from Covid-19 over the past 2½ years -- lockdowns, physical distancing, wearing masks, washing hands -- also helped limit the spread of other viruses. As people return to school and work and take off their masks, those viruses, including respiratory syncytial virus and flu, are back in full force.

Most of those did not "keep us safe from covid," but do go on.

That "immunity gap" from the last few years is probably behind the "unprecedented" early surge in RSV infections this year, scientists say -- and it has thrown other seasonal respiratory viruses out of whack around the world.

Cases of RSV in the United States started showing up in the spring and are now 60% higher than 2021's peak week, a CNN analysis shows, and that's probably an undercount.
Across the US, the number of flu cases has also been increasing a little earlier than usual. A handful of schools have seen large absences, and medical offices say they are seeing more people sick with other respiratory viruses at times that don't fit the usual patterns.
There have been similar unusual patterns in respiratory infections such as adenovirus, parainfluenza and rhinovirus in other countries, too.
Scientists think unparalleled actions of the pandemic had unparalleled effects.

Really? You mean if you subject a country's population to an unprecedented experiment for two years there might be deleterious effects? Effects you didn't plan for, because, again, this was an unprecedented experiment?

Ah, I mean, who cares? None of this was done to stop covid. It was all done as a competitive bidding game to show Who Has the Most Virtue and to create a demand for covid stringency that Trump could simply never meet, even if he'd wanted to, so that the 400,000 covid deaths could be blamed on him. (And the 700,000 deaths that occurred under Biden could also be blamed on Trump, for... some reason.)

Also I'm betting any aerosol reduction is almost identical to adults covering their mouths when they sneeze. And it's negated entirely by the filthiness of the aerosols being trapped and touched and spread even more by the wearer.

I've kept a cloth mask in my back pocket for two and a half years now. Seriously, two and a half years. I can never be sure what places I'll need to use it at. Every shipper and receiver I've been to *still* has signs up about masks. Is it required? Who knows! But I have to keep it handy.

The last time I used it was when I was home Thursday and Friday and visiting my mother in the hospital. Hospitals will probably never get rid of the mask requirements.

One day very soon I am going to literally wipe my ass with this thing. I'll use it in a port-a-shitter somewhere. Don't want to clog any pipes at the truck stop!

The Safeway stores in my area installed these sort of auto Denver Boots that would deploy and keep you from pushing the cart as soon as you cross a yellow line in the parking lot. Those stupid carts cost around $500+ each, and with hundreds of homeless taking them I'd think it would have saved the stores a small fortune. I did stop seeing Safeway carts around neighborhoods and started seeing red Target carts instead. Gotta love CA.

In a way, they make sense. At least here in Mexifornia. Because most of our third world imports have never heard about things like, not sneezing or coughing on people. Even loooong before Covid, I remember standing in line at Costco (more than once), and having somebody sneeze/spray all over the back of my neck or arm. They just don't know. One reason I stopped going to places with open condiments/salad bars, or bulk grocery items.

307 I finally got the scoop on what happened with the Maricopa ballot drop last night. The ballots came from Gilbert and Mesa.

Lake has been winning election day vote from those areas and the rest of Maricopa with Independents 2.5 or 3:1. But these votes were Independents that dropped off mail-in votes on Election Day, and Lake lost them 60-40. Every objective data analyst is looking at the drop and saying this makes no sense.

Now all of the campaign lawyers say that there has been no tampering with the ballots, however speaking for myself, I seriously doubt the lawyers were watching when they entered the system in the first place.

Workable theory is that this is a batch of fraudulent/harvested mail-ins dropped on Election Day during the madness when the machines weren't working. Maricopa has been purposely holding these back and waiting to the end to put them into the count, strategically. Do it before the last drop, because everyone will focus on the final drop, not the penultimate drop.

Also clear ballot harvesting going in in downtown Phoenix and other areas. Hobbs is outperforming Biden in those areas.

This takes me back to the "Pain is a vital sign" days when you could lose money and accreditation if patients had "unmet" pain concerns. Trying to get it through peoples' heads that addicts fell into a less clear category was very hard. In fact they said that someone "in pain" could not be addicted, even if they were in withdrawal.

Again, as has been said ad nauseum, the Democrats, whenever and where ever they obtain power institute voting systems that are opaque, unaccountable, unaudtiable, unverifiable and simply schemes generate a universe of ballots that they leverage to acquire and maintain power.

It has to be assumed that wherever they have a registration advantage they will win the ballot race and ultimately the race.

Can there be outliers? Sure, but not enough make a difference.
