Since All Saints Day (Nov. 1) was a day of obligation, I decided to pop-over to parish for a morning Mass. I don't normally go to this parish, but it was 15 min from work and priest scheduled to celebrate the Mass is familiar to me. The kids from the parochial school troop in and I notice that 90% are Hispanic.

Father H. comes in, and leading the procession is one of the older kids swinging the thurible with the incense. Father H. is wearing the traditional, tabard-style chasuble (not the modern, poncho-style). During Mass, we've got the incense and bells.

What is particularly note-worthy to me is that Father H. is a younger man and just got ordained in May 2022. Also, the Democrats are going to mandate a Southern border wall once they figure out that the Hispanics that they are importing are traditional Catholics.

Not to restart the Generation Wars, but age is a big factor. Boomer Catholics and Gen X Catholics are polar opposites in my experience. Even the faithful Boomers have a relaxed attitude towards the sacraments and the forms of practice. I've seen it in several parishes - the Boomer Pastor retires and his Gen X successor strips down all the modish decorations and replaces them with traditional ones. Latin returns to portions of the Mass, etc.

Gen X bishops are going to be lit.

I've noticed new media outlets emerging locally, often staffed by refugees from the dying newspaper/mainstream crowd. There's a hunger for basic, old-school reporting. Give facts, cite actual people as sources, let both sides get a quote.

The Dem model of news as therapy only caters to 1/3 of the potential audience, destroying advertising revenue. Its prevalence means subscribers aren't enough to support the bloated staff.

This recession is going to be the worst one since '82, and probably worse than that since we didn't have food or baby formula shortages. A lot of the fat is going to be burned up.

I've seen that here as well. Some of the older parishioners have not only gotten away from traditions, but the actual fundamental precepts of the church. The younger ones slowly coming back are much more inclined to be traditional and follow church teachings. They understand the faith better and are attracted by the very basic, lucid teaching of the Gospel. We also have a Catholic immigrant community that puts the local cafeteria Catholics to shame, especially on issues like abortion. They get it.

Not much to add except at the TLM there is no distraction as to our purpose to be there and participate as witnesses to the sacrifice offered at Calvary. There is a manifestly deep and collective reverence. People dress for the occasion and distractions caused by chatter, bad hymns, and sloppy dress are almost non existent. Many young families to be seen which is God’s reminder to live in Hope.

I like Latin - if you've ever sung much of that music, for several reasons Latin is one of the best languages to sing in. No dipthongs, all the vowels are pure, language is concentrated and clear, rhyme is extremely natural and easy. Poetry is easy to write in Latin, blank verse had to be invented because English is a terribly unpoetic language.

But it's too late for that, too. This was what Letitia James was supposed to do with her investigation and she failed, filing a ridiculously lame lawsuit instead. Trump is likely to declare that he's running for President in 2 weeks, and any indictment after that will be Obviously political, and boost Trump more than hurt him. They needed to take him and his supporters out before this mid-term, and they failed. Miserably!

Grammie, to me, especially since 2010, the Mass is the Mass. But I have many young and orthodox priests around me that are not afraid to celebrate a beautiful Novus Ordo. I am truly thankful for them.

I've yet to participate in a Latin Mass, but hope to do so. I think the current Mass has a lot of flexibility, and choice of hymns and settings completely change its character. My parish under a Boomer pastor was pretty much Protestant at the student location, complete with bongos, guitar, etc.

The new pastor took all of that out, and restored traditional decorations to both sites (our parish was merged out of two and both sites are active).

I haven't tried the Rosary in Latin, but I do listen to Gregorian Chant when I pray it.

277 Part of my issue is that some of the reverence was lost when the Novus Ordo arrived. It was part of the attempt to "modernize" the church, and in their zealous attempt at "reform" they lost touch with the very essence of mass and worship. It was a misguided attempt IMVHO which preceded a lot of unwelcome and dilutive spiritual changes. Rather then attempt to protect and defend tradition as a stalwart against destructive social pressures they tried to change a formula, process and even liturgy that worked for over 1,400 years.

279 Sorry if I got a little excited, in the wrong way. But for the non-Catholics here, Vatican II was NOT a dogmatic council. It was "pastoral." And yet, the Novus Ordo and other innovations clearly have dogmatic implications and repercussions.

The New Mass was a huge failure. Vocations and attendance have suffered massive declines. Even Coca Cola was smart enough to abandon New Coke after 9 months. We are fifty years into this mistake.

It was really a lack of courage, some might say a lack of faith that led us there. But I think your point on Latin in the Novus Ordo is a good one. There is a lot of movement on the local level and even some dioceses to bring back more of the traditional mass. Many of the people coming into the church favor strong traditions.

Our hymnal has a Latin setting of the Novus Ordo. Our parish has been doing evening daily Masses by candlelight in Latin. Very cool.

Francis is fighting a rearguard action and I think he knows it. The pipeline of his lukewarm socialists has been shut off.

We do owe him a debt of gratitude, however, because he basically mapped out the pedo network for us. It wasn't an accident, or a systemic problem, but an organized conspiracy.

I think he's completely misread the times we are in. Not only that, but he's hopefully the last of a dying breed that didn't have the courage to largely stand up for traditional and the fundamental truths of the Gospel. Caving to social pressure and personal predilections is not a recipe for bringing people into the faith. A strong tradition, unwavering beliefs and a clear articulation as to the church's dogma is what wins people into the faith. Not a wink, nod to the latest social fad or trend du jour. it's one thing to correctly state we are all Gods children. It's another to confuse people into believing that redemption comes without a submission to Gods very clear instruction.
