  • While Elon Musk is occupying himself - apparently - talking to the same Journalists for Censorship loons who destroyed Twitter in the first place SpaceX is building a raptor engine per day. (Ars Technica)

Since the engines are reusable, that is a lot. Even though Falcon Heavy will use 33 for the first stage and 6 for the second, it's still a lot.

NASA meanwhile has a contract with Rocketdyne to produce more of the RS-25 Space Shuttle engines for SLS.... At a rate of four per year.

The Raptor engine is 25% more powerful than the RS-25. (So yeah, 33 of them is a lot.)

10 ... SpaceX is building a raptor engine per day. (Ars Technica)

Ain't it fucking AWESOME? His Falcon Heavy just heaved a 140,000 pound classified payload for the Space Force (thanks, Trump, no really), and had to lose the first stage of 9 engines as there wasn't enough fuel to have it land itself. And they were all brand new engines. The side booster engines were recovered.

Meanwhile, Blue Origin finally delivered their 2nd BE-4 engine, about 3 years late. As Zimmerman put it, better late than never maybe.

Mostly morning, y'all.

But Dagny the little brown tabby has discovered that if she climbs onto my clock radio, she can reach up toward the bulb in my bedside lamp. Since another cat was able to knock over 2 of my other lamps, I had to stop her quick.

Anyway! Coffee and stretches are in the plan for this am.

19 Last night I dug out an old old cat toy, the Cat Dancer. It's simple: a curved and flexible piece of wire with a bit of cardboard at each end. The two furry monsters have taken to it, playing *together* with it, one cat at each end. No wonder I kept it all these years; it works.

21 I think the difference between Elon and the "experts"?

Space X first flight: Boom! Ooops! It blew up? Oh well? What did we learn from this?

I think the first time they tried landing a booster? It ran out of fuel about a dozen feet in the air. Then they tried landing another booster the very next week.

The experts: We spent months and years reviewing the project to determine what could possibly go wrong, and developing multiple contingencies. We had to scrub the launch twice because we did not anticipate that level of liquid hydrogen leakage

42 Food Report: (for some values of "food", anyway) Tried Jimmy Dean breakfast sandwiches, english muffin edition. Price, approx. $1.25 per.

Verdict? Meh, the online reviews suggest nuking them in the microwave is less than optimal. So I used the oven. I noticed the sausage is pretty thin, and the egg .. not much there. The muffin has no butter, another strike. Toasting them thoroughly, and slathering dairy butter improved the product to be near edible. You get what you pay for, if you're lucky. These won't compare to the McDs breakfast sammiches, and those won't hold a candle to home cooked version.

I can get 2 fluffy scrambled and a nice thick slab of fresh cooked sausage betwixt perfectly crispy crackly english muffin in my DIY version. A slice of sharp cheddar or even smoked Gouda, and Bob's Yer Uncle.

52 These people are almost caricatures of themselves now:
A theater troupe in England tried to recreate Romeo and Juliet as a non-binary romance set in Nazi Germany and it went over just as well as you’d expect. “A production of Romeo and Juliet for non-binary performers, with Juliet reimagined as a persecuted Jew and Romeo as a member of Hitler Youth, has become embroiled in a row over its failure to include Jewish people in a casting call.”

Both the idea (which is so obvious it is kind of hilarious) as well as the problem they have with it instead of bad taste.

Good flick, first thing I ever saw William Peterson in (he later of course was famous for playing Grissom on CSI). I think he was a major college running IIRC, with those bowed legs (which you don't see much anymore). And also a big Defoe fan since first seeing him in Platoon.

I hate Hollywood so much that I now pirate stream most everything from a few sites, although sometimes the resolution is poor (I did fork out $20 for "My Son Hunter" to Breitbart in a show of support) -- and here's a link to one of the sites for that movie:

185 Interesting interaction with the nurse while doing the pre-op work yesterday.

I was nervous, and made a remark that seconds later I realized could have been taken as a complaint. So I immediately apologized other and explained that I was a little stressed.

Her response was that even if I had meant it the way t sounded, I didn't even begin to approach the level of many of their patients. Then she explained that Baltimore had gone through Covid, and that it seems like everyone coming in for medical issues was 'Angry'.

Nice girl, who I suspect was not fully onboard with the draconian measures taken earlier.

201 Cheez Whiz

As of 2016, Kraft describes Cheez Whiz as a "cheese dip" with the word cheese spelled correctly. According to a Kraft spokesman, the product does include cheese, but the company has chosen to list its parts—such as cheese culture and milk—instead of cheese as a component itself.

Ingredients: whey, milk, canola oil, maltodextrin, milk protein concentrate, sodium phosphate, contains less than 2% of modified food starch, salt, lactic acid, whey protein concentrate, mustard flour, Worcestershire sauce (vinegar, molasses, corn syrup, water, salt, caramel color, garlic powder, sugar, spices (contains celery), tamarind, natural flavor), sodium alginate, sorbic acid as a preservative, color added, cheese culture, enzymes, natural flavor

GF works in Healthcare. Patients have always been arseholes, but recently it's getting amazingly worse. Doctors and nurses getting physically attacked and harassed on a regular basis. I mean legit attacked, assaulted, it's nuts. I think there's a push to blame it on covid shit, but really it seems it's because healthcare has become insanely domineering over its patients, and because a large percentage of the patients have no skin in the game. Waltz in, demand treatment, know you won't be paying a dime, and then have your inflated aristocrat-of-trash ego snap the first time a nurse says "I'm sorry but no you can't bring a snarling Rottweiler into the ER" or "no, you can't have catering delivered to an ICU room for twenty people" or whatever.

There were a few reveals by that reporting.

1. The home has 24 hour constant video feed directly to the Capitol Police.

2. That video feed should be recorded and viewable later.

3. I'm suspecting that the un-named source of the 'Welfare Check' request might be the Capitol Police

4. I suspect that instead of the Capitol Police saying that the Office was not alarmed when Paul and his friend returned home, as this was a common occurrence when Nancy was out of town, they went with the 'Gee, the Officer wasn't watching/didn't notice' story.

250 I think that with all of the noise that we’ve gotten in this election season I don’t think that people are really able to grasp that. But more importantly, I’m not sure they really understand the threats to their way of life. They may think that whoever’s chairing a committee, you know, kind of abstract. But the Republicans in the House and others like the chair of the Republican Senate Campaign Committee [Sen. Rick Scott, R-Fla.] are on record saying they’re going to put Social Security and Medicare up for a vote,” Clinton claimed.

Here is what Scott Said:
In promoting his plan to “rescue America,” Sen. Rick Scott went too far in claiming that Medicare will go “bankrupt” in four years and Social Security in 12 years.

256 FBI complaint against DePape, Oct. 31, 2022

https://tinyurl.com/3cbxpvux

SFPD Officer Colby Wilmes was able to interview a witness, Witness 1, who saw an individual in all black, carrying a large black bag on his back, walking near the Pelosi residence where Witness 1 was parked. Witness 1 was working private security at an address nearby. Witness 1 then heard what sounded like banging on either a door or car and then heard the sirens within a minute or two.

They knew nationally, IN NINE MINUTES, that there was no winner out of every ticket bought.

But Pennsylvania NEEDS WEEKS to count ballots.

NASA meanwhile has a contract with Rocketdyne to produce more of the RS-25 Space Shuttle engines for SLS.... At a rate of four per year.

The Raptor engine is 25% more powerful than the RS-25. (So yeah, 33 of them is a lot.)

——

At a cost of something like $150 million per RS25 engine.

i made the mistake of watching that last night. between the lies, fables, and out right horseshit, i'm kind of surprised he didn't get struck down right where he's standing.

i mean, when he pulled his "mobs, riots, bullets, and a hammer" line as a way to besmirch us, i had to think, there's no one who hears this who ISN'T going to remember BLM riots and Steve Scalise, right?

285 PA does not tax lottery winnings. Everything else is up for grabs. Occupational privilege tax (tax when you take a job). They also have a beauty that if you donate your remains to medical science, there's a tax. Supposedly for incidental local and state expenses like refrigeration and transport.

BTW, alibris.com has copies of "To Live and Die in LA" on DVD starting at $3.99 (plus s&h).
