Great: The Game of Thrones Prequel Will Explore Internalized Misogyny and the Patriarchy

You had me at "prequel." And the internalized misogyny and patriarchy is just icing on the delicious woke cake.

I'm not watching it anyway; Game of Thrones got me over any lingering appetite for Game of Thrones.

I just love watching Hollywood set millions of dollars on fire.

Now that's entertainment!

HBO's upcoming series House of the Dragon -- the highly anticipated prequel series to Game of Thrones -- will bring woke gender politics to novelist George R. R. Martin's universe by exploring "internalized misogyny," the "patriarchy," and other feminist tropes.

...

"House of the Dragon really creates a nuanced conversation of misogyny," actress Milly Alcock told Indiewire.

"We don't only explore it through a level of women being shut down and the patriarchy, but also go in-depth about the internalized misogyny that women are constantly faced with, and the competitiveness. Alicent and Rhaenyra's relationship is at the forefront of that conversation."

Is it Christmas already? How did they know exactly what I wanted?!

I can't wait to hear about "Alicent's" and "Rhaenyra's" "conversation" about internalized misogyny.

But what I'm really about is the deconstruction of the sexual violence inherent in a patriarchal system:

In an interview with Vanity Fair, House of the Dragon executive producer Sara Hess said sexual violence will never be shown on-screen, though it does occur off-screen,

"I think what our show does, and what I'm proud of, is that we choose to focus on the violence against women that is inherent in a patriarchal system," she told the magazine.

That's exactly what I was hoping for: I wanted my Dragon Soap Opera to instruct me about Normative Gender Power Structures and Gendered Violence.

It's like HBO just gets me.

Meanwhile, Jeff Bezos' Woke Amazon production released this awesome soap-opera style character introduction for the Diverse cast of their Stunning and Brave "Rings of Power" fan-fic.

Note this clip pushes the soap-opera look of the trailer, but they really released a clip with this kind of "As the Middle Earth Turns..." character introductions.

In addition to getting Woke Warrior Girlboss Galadriel, we'll be getting what you all know you always wanted but didn't quite have the courage to ask for:

That's right, Hot Sauron.

I mean...

I don't know if Hollywood has realized this, but they've created a derivative system of entertainment by which people actually enjoy their products, but not in the way they intended.

We enjoy them by hearing about them and laughing at them.

I have to admit, and this is a guilty admission: I know what happened in most of the Disney Marvel shows and movies, and the Disney Star Wars shows, and I haven't seen most of them.

I just listen to people goofing on them while I'm walking or cleaning.

I'm doing less and less of that because I'm less and less interested in even their enormous sweaty embarrassing failures.

But yeah, I know the basics of Obi-Wan. Didn't watch it, but enjoyed it!

I don't even know if I have the appetite to listen to take-downs of Girlboss Game of Thrones or Lord of the DEI Rings. They seem so pathetic already. They're pre-taken-down.

Meanwhile, Chris Pratt is trolling the woke critics who attacked his show for being so old-fashioned as to just deliver entertainment to, get this, men as well as women who don't mind watching male-skewing stuff.

To get the trolling, you should know that ratings on streaming services are measured in streaming-minutes, how many minutes the public has actually watched a show, collectively.

In the millions is good; in the billions, very good.

In one post, he posted an article with the headline, "Chris Pratt's new Navy thriller 'The Terminal List' defies woke critics' scathing reviews to shoot up ratings chart with 1.6 BILLION minutes of streams."

In another post, the "Everwood" star plastered a photo of Dr. Evil from the "Austin Powers" franchise and noted the number of times viewers watched his show.

"One point six BILLLLLLLLLION minutes," he scribed on the meme.

pratttrolls.jpg

The Daily Beast called "The Terminal List" an "unhinged right-wing revenge fantasy" and "a wet dream for militia-minded anti-establishment kooks" in a scathing review.

Absolutely spot-on review. That's why I watched it.

Can't believe AllahPundit's second-favorite website nailed that review so hard.

And Top Gun: Maverick just edged out Titanic to become the seventh highest domestic grossing movie of all time. Yeah yeah, note, this is in non-inflation adjusted dollars, so recent movies always have an advantage over earlier ones.

Still, it now could possibly beat Avengers: Infinity War.

This is the domestic box office, not worldwide. It doesn't do as well in worldwide box office, because its US box office is so huge. It's one of the few big movies to have a US box office equal to the the rest of its global take. (Black Panther had an even more lopsided US take.)

Despite non-woke entertainment earning money and selling billions of "stream-minutes," Hollywood will not make more similar projects, because: You shouldn't like non-woke "entertainment." You should like the Indoctrination Hollywood feeds you. And if Hollywood can just feed you nothing but that, at some point, you'll be forced to like it.

You know what I've started to notice with all the woke BS? Despite all their nonsense about "diverse and inclusive" casting there are hardly any actors that can qualify as attractive or beautiful.

Really, take a good long look. And I don't mean at the unflattering stills the detractors post. I mean really look at the actors. Except for maybe one or two every other one is either weird looking or just plain ugly. Maaaaybe there's an average looking person, but most of these people wouldn't have a single chance in hell of ever getting a part in a major film or series. Simply put, real star power absolutely requires a minimum amount of *beauty*.

One small item: their critique of the emptyness of a clone vs droid war was spot-on. Who cares, right?

It'd be one thing to give the IP to an inexperienced or ignorant showrunner. Once is probably forgivable. But they do it again, and again, and again, to every IP that has a sizable fanbase. The fans want nothing more than a moderately faithful adaptation that adheres to the spirit of the IP. It's not too much ask. Instead, we get showrunners that deliberately shit all over the fans to tell THEIR stories, not the originals.

274 Netfix's Sandman, going okay till episode 5. Then they turn the ghey up to 11. Been decades since I read the comic so I don't know if the episode is accurate to the original comic or not. The one thing I remember about the comic is Morpheus' trip to Hell to retrieve his helm. They changed a couple of things compared to the comic.

Comic book adaptations are odd if only because in comic books, it's really hard to pin down what's "canon." Sandman is a weird enough series that you can probably do whatever you want with the characters and still fit into the established canon of the Sandman universe.

285 Pet peeve: Plastic armor and effortless sword work.

Anyone who read Tolkien was acutely aware of how real his writing was. The guy was in the British Army so he know what it was to carry a load and do a long march through muddy trenches.

The way Sam and Frodo start throwing away gear because it's just to heavy is awesome.

The same is true for the other characters. Pippin's all cool with being a Knight of Gondor, but at the end of his shift he can't wait to take off his helmet and the armor is wearing him out.

Note as well that Eowyn isn't some slayer - she crashed through the impact and nailed the Witch-King with a single well-aimed sword-thrust. I hate this "skinny people have magic muscles" crap.

Watched "Prey" last night off of teh torrentz (fuck you, Hollywood).

Better than I thought it would be, but still not a good movie. Not even close. Biggest problem is that the Predator was a minor character in a Predator Franchise film.

Also, the stronk female... isn't. She's a whiny teenager who is improbably smarter than everyone else (no way in hell is a teenager smarter than adults, no matter which of the 57 genders they are). She wants to be a hunter, but she's physically slower than EVERYONE, even the fatso French trappers.

Which brings up another point. Every injun in the film is out of shape, either pencil-necked soi-bois who've never lifted more than 20 lbs at a time in their lives or fat old folks. This is a brutal, hunter-gatherer society, with a limited diet. NO ONE is going to be fat, and the young ones are almost certainly going to have physiques like Olympic marathon runners, because they HAVE to.

There was nobody like that in, say, Breaking Bad or Sons of Anarchy, or The Wire. Everyone is awful. Everyone is corrupt and without a soul or purpose. Everyone is miserable. There is no good no hope, and no meaning. Tony Soprano knew there was good and truth and something better, he just wasn't man enough to reach for it and get there.

355 Here's the full top 200 list of highest earning films adjusted for inflation:

https://tinyurl.com/bdcn989b

There are actually some surprises on there, such as two of the craptastic Star Wars sequels are in the top 20.

Of course, they are not adjusted for cost either. A list showing the most efficient earners of all time (cost the least, had best earning) would be more interesting to me.

356 According to the website Digital Spy, here are the top 5 earning low budget movies of all time:

5: El Mariachi (Budget: $7,000, Box office: $2,041,92
4: Super Size Me (Budget: $65,000, Box office: $20,641,054)*
3: Mad Max (Budget: $200,000, Box office: $99,750,000)
2: Blair Witch Project (Budget: $60,000, Box office: $248,639,099)
1: Paranormal Activity (Budget: $15,000, Box office: $193,355,800)

Indies that break through for one reason or another tend to rule this category. Made on a budget but somehow hit big.

*and all that on a lie!

357 I’ve personally prosecuted 100’s of cases and supervised prosecution of thousands. One iron clad rule: when the accused criminal had no defense he goes after the police.

359 Top Gun's numbers are even more impressive than that. You simply do not have movies doing that well in their 11th week anymore. They are usually done after a few weeks and out of theaters entirely after two months at the latest. Instead, my local Alamo is showing Top Gun multiple times a day.
The movie is still getting a million dollars a day.

The only recent movie I can think of that had that staying power, were Spiderman which officially restarted movies after COVID, and The Bad Guys on a much smaller budget and box office, but which did stay for months.
