What's curious is going to the cable listing, MSNBC is there at channel 61 followed by whatever on 63. They left Fox off the listing at channel 62. It's still on but not listed.

How will it be enforced? The cops are underfunded and demoralized. Same for the military. What if no one actually shows up for the draft boards - I don't mean recruits, I mean the draft board simply refuses to sit?

Our society runs on voluntary compliance. Take that away and it things just stop. It's like the mask mandates - yeah, some places are still thrilled with it, but most places ignored them and law enforcement refused to enforce it.

Now I get to go to church. Yah! I don't know who's going to show up because it's very hot and I told the organist just to stay home (Spouse downloaded the songs) because she's on various medications that don't do well in heat. We are air conditioned and prayer conditioned

although the ac units are small because the windows are narrow. We also have fans. I didn't want to not have church because I wasn't there last week, and even if nobody else comes God and FenSpouse and son and I are there. Anyway, you don't have to go to church to worship God but I love the space. The old church is from the 1800's and is beautiful I'm happy to worship God there. Today I'm taking a Sabbath day from any news.

I'm not a Missouri voter, so I've only followed it lightly. The criminal charges were all bullshit; but it is true that he had an extra-marital affair and let stupid cell phone pictures get out, somehow. Reminds me a bit of Madison Cawthorn; a young'un who doesn't have the sense to keep himself out of bad situations. And no, I'm not condemning on moral grounds, but for stupidity and for not realizing that if you're going to be in public life, you cannot do these things. This is one of the few areas where Mike Pence is exactly right; a man in office should NEVER be alone with a woman other than his wife at any time for any reason. They are extremely aggressive and will fly right into your face if you come too close to their nests. Good thing the males patrolling the nest can't sting because those suckers are big.

I have those in my yard! I actually think they're pretty cool, it's amazing to watch one grab a cicada bigger then themselves and drag it back to the burrow. I think the reason they come close is that they are one of those rare creatures that take no notice of humans at all. They will never bother you unless you're dumb enough to try and grab one and mess with it. The other thing that always fascinates me about them is that they only show up in July and August, and for the other 10 months of the year they (well their larvae) stay deep in the ground.

They are already culling herds around me. Feed prices are out of sight, water is scarce and there is no rain in sight for some time. If this keeps up we will only get one hay cutting this season versus the two or three we get in a good year.

259 I recently read a memoir titled "Dumb, Dumb, Dumb: My Mother's Book Reviews" by Mary Jo Pehl. The author is a comedienne, actress and writer best known for her work on MST3K and Rifftrax. It is a look back on her mother's life through the lens of book reviews her mother kept written on index cards, which she found after her mother's death from lung cancer. (When her mother disliked a book she rated it "dumb.")

It's moving, funny and I liked the organization of the book: it's divided into sections which begin with a few of her mother's reviews, organized by topic. Mary Jo deals with the low points of their relationship as well as the high points; when her mother was diagnosed with cancer she moved back to Minnesota from Texas to care for her during chemotherapy.

My own mother recently passed away, which does have a lot to do with why I liked this book so much... but I think anyone could enjoy it. The last review in the book really had me in tears. Mary Jo had written a previous book which she felt was so bad that she bought up as many copies as possible (it was privately published). But her mother somehow got hold of a copy, read it, rated it 10/10. And never told Mary Jo.
