There are spots along the Ohio River we pass on the way to our cabin in West Virginia that look like this painting. Some of the houses are right on the banks, old and dilapidated, looking like they were built 100 years ago. There will be an old boat or two, in equally bad shape and there are even railroad tracks running through the yard.
During the summer a lot of this is hidden by the trees and foliage, but in the winter it is incredibly bleak. Posted by: Martini Farmer at July 12, 2022 09:51 AM (BFigT) 125

Last month, we drove down through the mid-South. You really get a sense of how big this country is and how huge the major rivers are. We crossed the Ohio, the Tennessee, and the Mississippi. I really understand how these rivers were important highways during the country's development years, including the Hudson. I also understood how important it was to control these rivers during the Revolution, 1812, and the Civil War. It really brought history alive.

Following the disappearance of a Canadian child last month, a 40-year-old Portland-area man and radio host on the left-wing station, KBOO, has been arrested for child trafficking and child rape.
Noah Whitefield Madrano, of Gladstone, Ore., allegedly kidnapped a 13-year-old girl from Edmonton, Alberta. She was reported missing by her family on June 24 after never showing up for school and was finally discovered in an Oregon City hotel room more than a week later by local police and agents with the FBI. Oregon City is about 12 miles south of Portland. [...] Madrano used male, female and nonbinary pronouns and the monikers, "Bud Jackson," "NoMad" and "Noah Zark."|| Posted by: andycanuck Caught in the act? Bloomberg columnist Matt Levine noted the possibility that Musk could refuse to buy Twitter even if a Delaware court orders him. That, in turn, could start a saga that raises questions about the Delaware court’s authority — a scenario a judge will likely seek to avoid.
“What if the court orders Musk to close the deal and he says no? They’re not gonna put him in Chancery jail,” Levine quipped. “The guy is pretty contemptuous of legal authority; he thinks he is above the law and he might be right.” Posted by: SMOD at July 12, 2022 10:51 AM (RHGPo) 418
