The Chess Players
Thomas Eakins

I saw this lovely painting and of course my thoughts immediately went to OregonMuse. I used to send him chess-themed art occasionally (I probably sent him this one), and he would sometimes send me stuff that caught his eye. We didn't have the same taste in art, but that didn't matter...

71 I like to arrangement of the figures here. A simple triangle of forms, but the standing figure is placed to the right of center. This counters the vivid and dominant yellow in the chess pieces. The pieces are small, sure, but they are the only hot, glowing color in a painting full of browns, blacks, and whites. They small pieces radiate. Having a lop-sided central triangle re-balances the entire work.

2. "The Nanny" was remade in Russia where it starred a girl from Ukraine acting as a nanny to a family in Moscow.
3. You watched something that was remade for Russia and very popular in Russia. Moreover, it involved a Ukrainian character in a subservient position to a Russian character.

The movie is widely praised for historical accuracy. Apparently, the Russkies made thousands and thousands of Russkie soldiers available and trained them for months in Napoleonic tactic, formations etc. So never let nobody tell you the Soviet Union wasn't good for anything. (Why the Russkies were so interested in supporting a movie about the French, the British, and the Prussians starring a Brit and an American is beyond me.)

I'm not a fan of the police or any authority in this situation. With that said, I would say the first few seconds look purely performative on the part of the woman. The cop waves his hand in her face, maybe touches her, and she performs a walk back and then a controlled laydown. Some guy picks her up. Then the cop walks over and shoves her. The cops walk to a different area and she gets in the cop's face and gets shoved a few more times.

These theatrics are not going to help anyone. The authorities have no qualms about physical violence. The "how dare you!" gambit doesn't work outside of an already moral and functioning society.

302 The government and their green agenda will fail once the police stop enforcing the desires of the government.

339 From IMDb:

At over £12 million, it was one of the most expensive films ever made at the time. Dino De Laurentis had wanted to make it for 10 years, but his production company couldn't afford it. Then Mosfilm stepped in, contributing over £4 million, 20,000 soldiers, a full brigade of Soviet cavalry, and vast numbers of engineers and laborers to prepare locations and facilities for 48 days of shooting in the Ukraine. If it had been made in the West without the Red Army's assistance, it would have cost 3 times as much. To recreate the battlefield, the Soviets bulldozed 2 hills, deepened a valley, laid miles of roads, transplanted 5,000 trees, sowed fields of rye, barley, and wildflowers, and reconstructed 4 historic buildings. The production included Italian and Russian technicians, English and French advisors, Yugoslav stuntmen, and actors from America, Canada, England, Ireland, Italy, France, and Russia.

340 Eakins is a master painter, no doubt. His work provoked controversy in staid, ultra conservative Philadelphia society.

His painting "The Gross Clinic" caused much clutching of the pearls, and when it was learned that he had pulled the drape off a male model to show where the thigh muscle ends at the pelvis, he had to defend his job at the Academy. (because there was a female student in the class)

As to his being SSA, doubtful. One look at his photography demonstrates his love of the female form. Additionally, there were some shady goings-on with the females in his life.

One example: his brother-in-law accused him of incest with sister Margaret. Another: a young woman was found roaming the streets clad only in bathing suit. She told police that Eakins had promised to marry her.

353 Looks to me like the Dutch cops were arresting someone when that chick what likes to be a punching bag got too close to a police action. The male cop sent her flying with one quick shove. Of course the cop got up in her grill while she was on the ground...he escalated then she like a dope started swinging.

Told my son when he was little. Hands at your sides or on the wheel if you ever get into a situation with a cop. This is basic life skills and survival.

354 There were so many people at this speech taking photos that the Japanese police/news have been able to put together a "movie" of the killer and his movements.

He started behind Abe and was clapping during his speech. Then he moved toward the front, bent down and grabbed something then, moved toward Abe's side and shot him in the face. Then moved more behind and shot Abe in the torso.

Probably, censored then put online soonish.

For example: What are the LGBT etc-friendly terms for grandmother and grandfather? Will uncle and aunt and niece and nephew have to replaced? What's the translation for birthing parent in Spanish, Pashto, Vietnamese, Arabic, Chinese, and so on?

Then, will every single textbook and all other teaching materials using mother and father have to be replaced? Gee, that won't cost much, right?

After bathing his wounds in a liniment of rhubarb and garlic, and fortified by a liberal internal dose of schnapps, Blucher rejoined his army." And pulled Wellington's chestnuts out of the fire for him.
