I think you should keep these kitten reflections and make it in into a book. In the meantime, kittens and puppies can be exhausting as you well know and you are not 29. 😉. You are also tired from a very long trip. Get some rest when you can as parents of a new human baby have to do. As Skip says above , you and Miss Linda and "Tiny" or whatever his new name is" will be fine. And the RC folks can consider asking for the intercession of St Francis or other Saints who loved animals.

64 Weather.gov is where I usually go for my daily local weather. They always attach a little picture for the day to give you an idea of what weather to expect (sunny, cloudy, rainy, snowy, etc.). It's going to be upper 90s here this week. I notice they have now added a "hot" (their words) picture to the choices. It's a glowing, scary orange image with what looks like a Middle East skyline. I take it I'm supposed to become alarmed and demand (*holds fist in the air*) climate action now! I don't need weather.gov to tell me 98 is quote/unquote hot. So that's the only conclusion I can draw: propaganda. Maybe I'm too jaded.

Gas in Canada is $9.00 a gallon. It’s not Biden’s issue.

The US has been paying relatively little for gas for a long time. Most other countries pay more. Therefore, high gas prices have nothing to do with FJB, and everything to do with the US becoming more like Europe and Canada. Which, by the way also have better gun laws, better social nets, and amazing public transportation, according to sources I read which have a self serving reason to paint their subjects in the best light.

The National Weather Service has been using those picture icons for at least 2-3 years. They periodically change the graphics, but those are standard at all the local offices. They've been using the "hot", "cold", "breezy", whatever terms for a long time as well.

There is no doubt they've jumped on the climate change bandwagon and there's no doubt they dick with the forecast numbers. That's been going on for decades.

That was very nice of her. The sad part was she said " I don't know what your pronouns are-Mr or Ms or Mx" Spouse is very obviously an older male who doesn't wear dresses and this is what she's learned from school- to pretend all this nonsense about pronouns. This little girl has what I assume in an Indian-dot not feather. Do her parents know of or approve of the transgender stuff?

Correct. They theorized that if the price of something went up then people would stop buying that item so they revised the model they used and substituted something else for the higher priced item and used that to "calculate" real inflation. It's all a scam at this point.

I've also suspected the GOP would tank MAGA candidates that squeaked by their vetting committees.

The GOPe knows we don't really want real opposition candidates and much prefer that we always have the least worst* candidate on the ballot.

*The least worst candidate is assisted by GOPe primary rules (and stealth funding) that ensure sponsored vigorous campaigns from unknown contenders will muddy the waters and ensure that no real principled anti-establishment candidate will survive the primary.

I agree they'll suffer. If the J6 committee had any teeth, and that is debatable, they'll disqualify any GOP candidate the deep state/uniparty feels threatened by. Failing that, yea, violence is the answer. They play for their team, which is different than the Democrats' team, and different from ours.

The key is to get involved early in the cycle and back strong primary contenders. Also, get elected to your local precinct delegate, or party rep. That's how you change things.

Also remember that the GOP in Congress now is going to look different. Several RINOs will be gone due to retirement and/or redistricting.

McConnell himself is as old as dirt, so at some point he'll be replaced either by a primary or the Grim Reaper.

Exactly. If you take a side, you actually have to defend it. By refusing to do so, she can snipe at everyone and never take responsibility.

She actually shut down her comments around January 2022 IIRC because her readers were uniformly tearing into her. I think that killed her traffic because the only reason I go there is to see her commenters give her crap for being cowardly.

She turned them back on because the abuse was better than being ignored.

A big part of her problem is that back in the day, she was quite the hottie (she's posted vintage photos over the years). Still craves that attention. She leverages her gay son to that end.

-It is just common sense. We shouldn't be doing this.
CANCELLED!!!

“Though social media and video chat can foster social connection and support, we found that most of the adolescents’ screen use during the pandemic didn’t serve this purpose,” said Nagata.

In addition to the screen time increase, a greater number of teens reported alcohol consumption: an increase from 2 percent to 10 percent of survey respondents. While researchers expected an increase in alcohol consumption as the cohort aged; they were surprised to find that it was greater for females than males.

Oh, maybe we shouldn't have done the lockdowns. If only someone said something.

My kids' high school (and my alma mater) is not just doing summer school, it's doing two sessions to help kids get the credits they need to graduate.

The learning loss has been catastrophic and you're seeing that in college admissions. A lot of young people are opting out because they just don't have the grades to get in.

This is why the push to abolish grade and test requirements for admissions isn't just about race - it's because the current graduating class and the ones directly behind them all flunked an entire year.

if they had bothered to study any of the past (being leftists, of course they didn't) they could have seen that this is the fate of *everyone* who makes gods of themselves. Human beings always turn out to be the most pathetic and untrustworthy "gods" one could ever choose.

I know people who *pretend* to be pro-life who did so. It's like the pro-choice Catholics. Not really Catholic at this point.

Being a Democrat isn't about policy, it's about a belief system. Other than weirdos on forums, I can't find any actual documentation for this, but I can find documentation that they remained in Spanish service for decades and Spain used 7.62 NATO ammo. Also, I can't believe that an action designed for 7x57mm Mauser couldn't handle .308.

Thoughts?

a lot of ancient people excelled in killing people in cruel ways, including our English ancestors. The Romans put a lot of effort and thought into this - although having had this discussion with few people over the years, and mindful of your current research, it's my opinion that the Chinese topped everyone else in history in this department.

That's definitely the case today, but I can remember when the public was more open to serious discussion and debate.

Shall-issue laws, for example, had a very robust debate and people didn't just hype emotions, they got into actual numbers. This in turn moved public opinion and as the predictions of doom failed to materialize, the movement picked up speed.

That discussion is impossible today.

The phone..from getting their first phone when she was 15 on the same line with 2 neighboring farms and phone number was 16 to the cell phone she had in her hand. The second was from getting a radio with one station that they listened to in the morning before chores to a color 60" flat screen TV with Cable.

If you've ever seen the movie, "The Naked Prey", which is a great movie by the way. Which Mel Gibson more or less lifted for "Apocalypto".

The tortures of the English explorers were actually not tradition African tortures. The tortures were actually tortures used by America Indians that the screenwriter/director had read about.

Very very ouchy they were.

Right, and I can't find that 7.62 CETME ever even went into production! I did find a scan of an article in Guns and Ammo that they torture tested one to failure and had to go to absurdly high pressure to do it.

And again, these weapons were in converted in the 50s and kept in service for 20+ years before hitting the American market as surplus.

276 Interesting comment from a friend who works in college admissions.

China sends 145,000 students to American schools (boarding high schools and college/university). But there is now a question of whether the Chinese government will let that happen next year, and a decision is coming from Beijing (supposedly) at the end of this month.

The Chinese are said not to like the attitudes and beliefs being taught their kids in American schools, but this is being said to also reflect the generalized disruption in relations with China.

313 Hey Weasel! Pre-gun thread question: There's a lot of nonsense on the web about whether Spanish M1916 Mausers that have been rechambered for 7.62 can safely fire NATO or .308. Some wags are insisting that they were converted to 7.62 CETME, which was a milder round.
[ . . . ]
Thoughts?

Posted by: Ace-Endorsed Author A.H. Lloyd at June 12, 2022 08:44 AM (llXky)

FWIW: the mausers converted from 8mm should be fine to use 7.62 NATO, the ones converted from 7mm are considered too weak for full powered 7.62. and IIRC the CETME round was originally loaded lighter.
when both were on the market it was considered safer to get the 8mm conversions, the Mod 1943.
However, the Spanish would not have issued a rifle that was dangerous, even to reserves. I suspect the main issue would be stretching of the chamber and bad headspacing before a catastrophic failure. Probably. Without really bad luck.

I do wish I had picked up some of the 7mm conversions to rebarrel in something fun, way back then it would have been worth it. I always have hankered for a .45 ACP carbine.

315 Being born in that year, I only have cursory knowledge of this story and of Evers' murder. I have to ask, why was this Beckwith fellow not convicted the first two times? KKK on the jury? ID of murderer not conclusive?
____________

The first two juries were all male, and all white. We don't really know why they hung, but there was speculation that it would have been impossible to get a white Mississippi jury to convict Beckwith at that time, given the general hostility to blacks, and especially black activists, in Mississippi at the time.

At the third trial, which took place in 1994, there was some new evidence presented, including a riflescope from the murder weapon with Beckwith's fingerprints on it. The prosecution also produced several new witnesses, who testified that Beckwith had boasted about murdering Evers in the years since the crime. But the biggest change was probably the change in white attitudes in Mississippi in the intervening decades since the murder.

316 Hero Down: Meridian Police Officer Kennis Croom Murdered While Saving 4 Children

Meridian, MS -- Meridian Police Department (MPD) Officer Kennis Croom was murdered in the line of duty on Thursday night while saving four children from a homicide suspect, according to law enforcement sources.

Investigators said the 30-year-old officer was responding to a domestic disturbance in the 2400-block of 51st Avenue at approximately 5:20 p.m. on June 9 when the fatal attack occurred, WTOK reported.

He was the first officer to arrive at the scene, Meridian Police Chief Deborah Young said during a press conference on Friday afternoon.

Law enforcement sources close to the investigation said 31-year-old Dante Marquez Bender murdered a woman inside a nearby home and was allegedly about to kill four children when Officer Croom arrived and stopped him, the Darkhorse Press reported.

if they had bothered to study any of the past (being leftists, of course they didn't) they could have seen that this is the fate of *everyone* who makes gods of themselves. Human beings always turn out to be the most pathetic and untrustworthy "gods" one could ever choose.

it's getting entertaining to watch, but it's why so many leftists can't just change their minds; they have to deal with the complete collapse of their entire worldview. Most are just going to drop out of engagement with anything.
