Here's a new-to-me word that I tripped over today, and its companion word:

I am happy to report that my son successfully graduated from community college with a degree in biology. He had one required class-Genetics- and one class he was taking just because he was interested-Field Botany. The professor said that the students could apply for paid internships in the field (I don't know if it's literally in the field, Reminds me of that Sandra Boynton cartoon with a cow standing in the field and when you open it up the card says "Congratulations to someone who's outstanding in the field.") if they had a B+ average. He doesn't know if he has a B+ average because he hasn't gotten any tests back.
Anyway, if the praying folks could pray that he gets some kind of job related to agricultural studies so that he could make some money for school before he transfers, it would be much appreciated. Rural America could have the solution to the growing tech skills crisis.
* There is no "growing tech skills crisis." Our betters decided there were some jobs Americans wouldn't do, remember? So they imported leeches to do them for fast food wages (or illegally under the table) while the people who had built the system were let go and laughed at and made to find crappy jobs elsewhere. Now that the system is collapsing from our betters' decision to hire illegally - which I'm going to say manipulation of the visa system absolutely is - and it's coming back to haunt them, suddenly THEY have a crisis. But it was fine to fire the Americans. That wasn't a crisis. Posted by: Moron Robbie - The left killed Roe V Wade when they removed shame from society at May 12, 2022 06:55 AM (IXN6t) 77

However, I think a lot of jobs related to agriculture are heavy labor, manual work unless you're a professor..
* Knowing what I know now, if he doesn't have a clear plan for his future but he does have a two year degree, I would encourage him to get on with a city or state in a job that is somewhat interesting and has a bit of upward mobility. Water plant operators easily make $50K/year or so plus all the overtime they want. DOT workers and inspectors are similar, and they aren't pushing shovels. Get in and get going and retire at 50 with government benefits. Without a plan in that field that's the sort of thing it's likely he'll be looking at after the debt of a four year school anyway. More seriously, something like 90% of new DVMs are women. Someone smart enough to get a DVM is smart enough to do whatever they want. Has it occurred to any of these geniuses that perhaps women are more likely to want jobs that involve human/animal contact and compassion, versus jobs where you stare at a circuit board or a computer all day? Radiology (low patient contact) is mostly men. Pediatrics is mostly women. GEE I WONDER WHY.

It was then that I realized all the TV news personalities were fake and not really taking "brave" stances on any politician or topic. The last straw for me was when Bill O'Reilly straddled the fence regarding the Swift Boat Veterans and their criticisms of John Kerry. Previously, I liked watching him as he seemed to use his final commentary segment to take hard stances on issues. When I saw him flake out regarding the Swift Boat Veterans, I knew he was a fraud. And I then gave up on all of it. Thankfully, it was during the time that political blogs were gaining popularity and I have gotten my news exclusively from blogs ever since. 18 years free of TV news.
