2 Good Morning Morons. Today is Saturday, April 16, 2022. On this date in 1746 the Battle of Culloden was fought between the French-supported Jacobites and the British Hanoverian forces commanded by William Augustus, Duke of Cumberland, in Scotland. After the battle many highland traditions were banned and the Highlands of Scotland were cleared of inhabitants. And you can see a
reenactment if you watch Highlander.

30 Mornin', folk,

A local news story a couple of weeks back featured a veterinarian who works in the suburbs and lives in the city who has had his truck broken into 8 times over the last year. He rigged up a flashbang in his parked truck. A video went viral of a yute who smashed the driver's window and wriggled part way into the car, only to have the flashbang scare him away. Good idea -- except . . .

If you work in the suburbs, why the hell are you living in the city in the first place? MOVE!

I know JJS is not a fan at all of a Constitutional Convention, and he is right to have reservations about the idea. His best argument is that the Constitution is ALREADY being ignored; new Amendments would be observed about as faithfully.

But by and large, it IS observed if you are willing to go to court to urge that it be followed.

One big area that a CC could address is term limits. Presidents have term limits, largely because FDR decided to ignore the 2 term informal limit set by Washington.

But neither Congress or the SC are about to give up their gravy train voluntarily. Every time it has been brought up in Congress, well, bipartisanship is suddenly very very popular with that gang of thieves. A CC Amendment can avoid Congressional approval entirely. *add some age restrictions for mandatory retirement too, please*

My 2 cents.

The Nazis were anti religious but knew they needed the support of the churches. The churches needed a way to survive in tyranny.

The Pope made a Concordat with Hitler that supposedly protected the religious freedom of Catholics in Bavaria and elsewhere. Revision of this has seen it as a sell-out by a sympathetic church. The Nazis slaughtered every priest and nun they got their hands on in Poland and the east anyway.

The Lutherans were split, and one splinter group even attempted to create a Nazi church. Religious observance was generally frowned upon especially among the SS, yet were required to declared themselves "God-believing" without diluting their allegiance to Hitler. The Evangelical Lutherans became a source of opposition to the regime, while other churches were more supportive.

77 The Catholic Church was one of the threats to Hitler's Volksgemeinschaft policy. He tasked Alfred Rosenberg with the task of eliminating any Catholic influence. Read Rosenberg's Myth of the Twentieth Century to understand just how deeply delusional and opposed to Jesus Christ, Rosenberg was. Catholic newspapers were largely banned and the Catholic aligned Zentrum Party members were already being put in concentration camps by the time Hitler was forcing a new Concordant on the church. That's before we get to the "immorality" trials. To this day the Concordant is controversial and whether it saved some Catholics I suppose is debatable. Anyway, point being, Hitler was far from Catholic or a supporter. In fact he used everything in his power to attack the religion and its supporters.

96 Eh, I think you have to remember the times. I'm not sure Pius had a lot of good choices (I'm not a big fan, but I can at least understand the reasoning) His tactics allowed some of the underground (and overt activities like the encyclical mit brennender Sorge and continued Catholic activities with sympathetic Germans) to continue operating while the Nazis tried to wipe out the Catholics and Jews. I seem to recall the Nazi's called Pius "The chief Rabbi of Judah Rome or some crap. Anyway, they were evil hateful people who certainly were not Christians at all.

So it's to the point that Mamma duck and the eight ducklings are waiting in the driveway in the morning till I open the garage door, and then they all rush in to eat the bowl of duck food that we keep on the garage floor.

Followed by the other duck and her mate who's eggs were not viable this year. Just patiently standing in the yard, waiting till the kids finish eating and leave.

Then they come waddling in for their breakfast.

176 The NYT has been hot garbage for decades. The one thing they do that serves a useful purpose is to periodically bark out the direction the left would like to go. Normal people's principles and those on the left are no longer compatible. They're not reconcilable either.

I think our society is now at a true deflection point. The left is highly motivated to see their vision to the ultimate end. I don't think the right is. At least not yet.

We might need to embrace the concept of "by any means necessary" sooner rather than later.

Of course, some of the commenters are claiming Covid, some the Covid vaccine. Could be.

What I think is far more likely is that Our Betters have thrown open the borders to every third world craphole in the world.
And the third world is just filled to the brim with all sorts of wacky, rare, and rarely seen in this neck of the woods, viruses and diseases along with unsanitary practices and customs which we are also importing along with the folks.

One of the hallmarks of the first world was great public health, sanitation, and disease control, bu-u-u-t we've thrown that away, and it's likely we're now seeing the results.

Kinda like that mysterious paralytic virus affecting the young here in the states, that suddenly was round filed when the common factor appeared to be an influx of illegals where the virus was active.

261 Who exactly is buying and processing all these stolen catalytic converters?

You want to stop this crime, cut it off at the sink, not the source. Put the screws to the recyclers paying out for stolen goods.

265 an Indian News outlet is reporting that Igor Osipov, Commander of Russia's Black Sea Fleet, has been forcibly arrested for the loss of the Moskva. Putin is pissed.

and even in Russia, no one is buying the "It was just a fire!" story. Not after it sank.

266 He's boned. Sounds like Dagon is cooperating. Only question is does Sussmann plead and flip or go to trial.

I agree. To a point. Boned being relative. He's likely headed for a Clinesmith sentence. But still he won't be convicted for the core lie of Russiagate, only the subsidiary lie of who he worked for.

The spied on Trump after he was elected. They spied on the President of the United States. And it's not a Trump tweet, there is evidence.

That is not going away.

273 You know what blows my mind about the whole coup via the russia frame-up?

If Trump was even 10% as dirty as they said, they wouldn't have had to break a single law to find the dirt.

Instead, they broke multiple laws for years found nothing and ... believe even more fervently he's the crooked one.
