Good Friday Cafe

Cristo_Buena_Muerte_2012_508_(recortada)resize.jpg

Screenshot (2021).png
A procession of penitents in Zamora, Spain,
during Holy Week (Semana Santa).

These processions have been staged
since the Middle Ages, and Zamora's
are the oldest in Spain.

By the way, Zamora's penitents wear monk's hoods rather than the tall conical caps that are worn in the rest of Spain. Not only are the monk's heads nicer looking, but they keep this site from being #CancelledWithExtremePrejudice.

This dog seems to think that he has to twirl around to "wind up" the automatic fetch machine. I guess he did that early on when he was learning to use it and thinks that powers the machine.

Pilot lands a jet on its belly without landing gear. I assume he had to do this because of a mechanical problem and not because of, like, a bar bet or a dare or something.

Mild content warning for sexy illusion. I'll leave it to the chat to discuss what's going on here.

Dad-generated virtual reality.

Bouncy sheep. Too energetic to put you to sleep, but pretty.

Now you will see my Mantis Style Kung Fu!

Jazz paws. I can't really improve on the caption provided.

1, Check yourself, 2, wreck yourself

Thank goodness it's Friday night.

No really, thank goodness.

In honor of Good Friday -- the final resting place of the Holy Grail.

I'm just always surprised at how fast baby rhinos are.

Baby elephants have some speed, too.

6 to be honest about my ignorance, I didn't know there was a Zamora. I knew there must have been a historical Zamora because Robert E. Howard calls his Spain-like province that, and he tends to name countries after a name found in their history or mythology.

Yes, they are a different species within the genus, Camelus.

The dromedary is Camelus dromedarius, while the Bactrian is Camelus bactrianus. Bactrians are the ones known as "camel". Using that for a Dromedary is imprecise, much like calling a wapiti and elk.

Sweet Dreams, like Hold My Hand, Wannabe, and SemiCharmed, were one of those songs that the entire country listened to at once. That was the 80's while most of the last ones of these that occurred were in the very late 90s. Has there been a song like that in the aughts?

You need a shit ton of room to move those. When we closed on the house I wasn't moving in for another month, so I told my friend to just take his time making sure he's good for the road trip, so for 3 days his toy hauler was in the driveway. It was gigantic, I think he said 44 feet long, which ir probably right because the driveway is 100 feet long, and it took up half. When he pulled out it was like a tractor trailer going down the street. It was insane, and you don't need a special license to haul it. You need a license for a frigging motorcycle, yet you can pull an aircraft carrier down the road.

There is a guy making cast-in-place concrete panels with foamcrete mixed with ground styrofoam. casts them up with forms, but I suspect he could cast them flat around re-mesh or hog panels, and tip them up to a frame.

Never got the attraction. I figure it is like cilantro. Posted by: Aetius451AD
-------------------------
The Who's music uses a lot of suspended (sus) chords which can sound off to some people. Stones can be a bit sloppy sometimes and Jagger's affected voice can grate on some songs but most humorously, the Who and Rolling Stones were both influenced in the 60's by American blues and r&b music. The Rolling Stones kept at it while the Who with Tommy and Keith Moon drumming left it behind.

Live at Leeds is the Who's closest approximation to Led Zeppelin and Moon and Bonham were drinking buddies and the Who and Rolling Stones were also pretty friendly as they really did not occupy the same niche (mods v. rockers images). If I recall right, Who's Next was actually recorded with the Rolling Stone's mobile recording studio as the earlier takes at the Record Plant did not work. The Who also appeared at the Rolling Stone's Rock and Roll Circus.

You mean ground paper instead of gravel for aggregate?

Posted by: Iron Mike Golf at April 15, 2022 09:34 PM (8C7+r)

283 Actually I found a place like that in AR. They built this big recreation site, with developed sites for you to build on and sites just for camping. Really, really cheap for the undeveloped lots (under 2k). But you couldn't live in an RV on it. It's something you have to look into.

And the problem with long term living in RVs is that it's hard on the floor. It's not really built for that kind of use. Tiny house is built more like a house and bigger since it isn't moved often

331 Old book "The Strawbale House" if anyone wants to learn about them.
There are 'plantation mansions' in Alabama built in 1905 (IIRC) that are still in use.
The bales can be stacked either 18 or 24" on the flat side.
There are techniques that allow them to be built in TX that have 100mph wind codes.
You run water pipes through an outer PVC pipe.
I've been in 2 and helped build one.

The screed I always run into, be it Millennials or any other generation of petty tyrant, is how health care is a right "because without it, I'll die" they tell me.

The last time I bothered to lay it out for these little pricks, it went something like this. "How often do you see a doctor ? It's been at least six months for me. But you or I will die without water in seven days. Die without food in fourteen. I have the means to live outdoors, you don't. You'll die of exposure long before you die of thirst or hunger. Now tell me again, how important it is that government guarantee you can go to the ER ?".

Met with slack jaws and stares, of course.

343 One of our favorite scenarios for a nice property in the near future is getting the land, putting up a big pole barn and camping in that as we work on building a house. it would be a small house. We don't like fancy houses. The only thing we won't do is electrical and plumbing. But the rest we could do, and would love it. 2 baths would be nice, but we would be okay with 1 1/2.
But frankly we have a lot of different scenarios, depending on what we find. The only thing is to get the hell out of the Front Range.
