But if you want to build an ETO Lightning you will have to source from the scrap box or after-market the radio set from a P-51D, the radio set in the kit still looks like it came from the earlier kits and this set was used only in the Pacific Theater.

Listening to all of the conversation between Armstrong and Aldrin in the Lunar Module from descent burn to landing, not just the final 30 seconds or less that is used along with the comm with Houston in most TV documentaries, is fascinating. Almost mesmerizing - I felt I was in the Lunar Module with them.

NASA's budget for FY '22 is $24.04B, and is actually $800M less than 2021. NASA took an actual cut, a reduction in budget.
Yep, that is indeed a rounding error.
Looking at the latest Daily Treasury Statement, which is for April 1, Uncle Sam spent a total of $120.972B and deposited a total $36.872B into his "checking account" at the Fed.
That's just one fucking day, mind you. That includes $22.8B in SS checks that went out that day. So, in one day Uncle spent nearly all of NASA's entire FY budget on SS payments. HHS items got over $40B worth of spending on April 1.

wonder why no one seems to worry at all about the debt anymore? I think it's because the stupid people (a majority in all classes) simply think nothing bad can happen from it because nothing ever has. But the people who *do* understand what's going on, like us, realize that we are so far past the Point of Know Return that there's no point coming up with any plans or ideas to turn things around. The crash is assured, so the only thing left is to plan personal survival strategies for when it comes.
it also means that politically, the only rational goal is to try and hold at least some of the positions of power for when the reconstruction starts.

The "space pen" vs pencils thing is an urban legend. NASA astronauts originally used pencils. But there was a problem. Flammability was one in 100% O2 atmosphere. Also, the tips would break off and float around, which was a potential problem if the pieces got into some delicate parts, might even complete some circuits if got lodged in some of the circuit boards.
NASA didn't spend a dime to develop a space pen. Fisher spent about $1M of its money to develop a pen that would work in zero g, as well as other conditions, like underwater and so forth. Used pressurized N2.
NASA originally bought 400 of those pens. Here is the original purchase order from NASA for those pens:

He said he'd wake up with blood coming out of his ears. They had trouble with simple things, or seemingly simple, like getting the periscope to move while underway. So they loosened the bolts securing it. That worked, but then sea water would pour onto the person using the periscope. So that became a lower enlisted job all of a sudden. Like .. Dad.

You can also double the total charging energy. The efficiency of the charging process is not 100% by a long shot, and decreases with charging rate. The faster you charge the more you waste has heat.
IIRC, a slow charge can be around 70% efficiency, but a fast charge is 50%.
So, you're going to need 80 kW-hr to fast charge a 40 kW-hr battery.

idk, but it is the same the other direction. I bought minimal batteries for my solar panels ... but the power they can provide quickly is much less than a smaller draw over time. ... not sure how the affects the life of the battery.

Karl Denninger has written several barn burners on the stupidity of EV, where he runs all these various numbers. In response to the latest ridiculous hit, he pointed out the following.
It takes 500,000 lbs of material to be dug up to provide the raw materials for one EV battery pack. And requires wildy toxic chemicals to be used in that extraction. The battery packs are not recyclable and to make them so would make them wildly more expensive.
When you figure out the cost of all that, you know big mining and hauling equipment, you quickly realize these battery packs cost far more than they're worth.

2 reasons I like her:
1) Because I HATE all the sneering, condescending liberals who hate HER. To me that's a strong recommendation. A very good start!
2) Very few women would be strong enough in their faith not to abort a Down's Syndrome baby in utero, I suspect. Character counts when I choose a candidate. I admire her (and her then husband Trig) immensely for that.

There is some indication that certain freqs, like blues, are not good before bed, screens particularly can mess up your sleep cycle, and everything now seems to be a blue LED too.
Incandescent light and firelight does not seem to be a problem.
The light intensity cited was "enough to walk around but not bright enough to read by" but not really helpful that way. I don't think this was supposed to be informative, just supposed to make us afraid.

Adding the gray quilted padding to the cockpit sidewalls and aft area certainly saves it from being this flat black black hole with only little dots of color. Also got the fuselage glued together.
Downside is while gluing the halves together the small glass window in the observer hatch decided to fall out and vanish into the carpet. One more thing to scratch-build as I need to add the reflector to the gunsight .

I understand that people get jaded but this was always going to take time to unwind and actually it has taken far less time than Whitewater. Take away a year for the virus when court were shut down and this has only been a criminal investigation of the biggest criminal conspiracy in US political history and it's only been a little over 2 years. And Durham has a team of less than 10 while Mueller had dozens and Durham has been fighting the swamp as hard as Trump.
And what the Durham team just dropped is a bomb. The words conspirators and conspiracy were used dozens of times. It's pretty obvious Durham is going after big game.

Regarding the last pic: I've said for years that poorly-parented free-range children should be on leashes. (I was never too fond of children when I was supposed to be one of them, and my opinion has only gone down from there.) When I meet or even see a well-spoken, well-behaved child, I'm always pleased.
Warm and sticky here already, and with a good chance of rain this morning. It could begin in an hour, or not for 2-3. We will see if I can go work out or not.

The trope of "Sarah", the gossipy, old maid operator in small towns, while a comedic exaggeration, is based in truth.
For small town exchanges, the phone company liked to set up an old maid, that is an older, unmarried woman, who still lived with her parents as the operator. They'd set up a switchboard in Sarah and her parents house.
Sarah needed to be at the switchboard basically all the time, and she could do that still living with her ma and pa.

Hijinks would ensue when Sarah was indisposed and hat to let her mother man the switchboard. I think it was Andy Griffith episode where he picked up, and it was Sarah's mother. He had to try to help her make the proper connection to ringy-dingy the other party to whom he wanted to speak.

Yes. Oliver Heaviside. One of the founding fathers of electromagnetic theory. He first came up with what was known as the "telegrapher's equations", or transmission line equations as we know them today.
The modern formulation of EM theory as is taught today is due to Heaviside.

Heaviside also dabble in gravitation. He was right, but got it wrong. During his heyday, there was a vexing astronomical/gravitational problem known as the "anomalous precession of the perihelion of Mercury". The orbit of Mercury was precessing at about twice the rate that could be explain by the understanding of gravity at the time.
Heaviside reasoned, hell, maybe gravity is more like EM. Mass is like charge, so maybe moving mass creates a sort of gravitational equivalent of the magnetic field. Maybe that would explain it.
His calculations didn't pan out. Too small, and wrong sign. He abandoned the idea. But, come Mr. Einstein and General Relativity, Mercury's anomalous precession was 'splained.
Oh, Heaviside was correct, there is a "magnetic like" component of gravity. Moving masses create a magnetic like field just like charges -- conservation laws and relativity demand it. Only problem is, the effect, while present, is very small, and the other non-linear, non-Newtonian components of Einstein gravity are responsible for Mercury.
Heaviside was right in his concept. He just didn't see the full, true picture.

The anomaly of Mercury's perihelion could've been explain, with Netwonian gravity, by another planet, even closer to the Sun than than Mercury. Some thought that was the explanation, and they dubbed this planet "Vulcan", as it would be very hot, so close to the Sun.
There is no Vulcan, turns out. But the idea did give us Mr. Spock.

It was in the Star Trek 2 volume, with "Arena" and JB's adaptation of Ellison's "City on the Edge of Forever." I don't know if Blish got all of his differences from the aired episodes from first-draft scripts, or if he worked his own magic on them. I suspect there was a lot of the latter. He made Kirk, who was usually the viewpoint character, an accessible figure with a sense of humor.
