9 Battered by rising energy prices, the Biden administration is now talking a good game about increasing supply and reducing prices. And yet it is still acting with, well, a forked tongue, that is, loudly cheering for more energy while still quietly seeking to limit it.

What the author here fails to say is Biden IS and always has been a colossal liar.

A perfect day to stay in and watch a movie or two, take a nap, etc.

I'm trying also to decide if I want to drive 40 minutes or more to the Walmart up Hwy. 90, which opens at 6. It would be a fun pre-dawn drive. The car does not often get such a long run, even at a slow-ish speed like 60. I have to balance the burning of the gas against the fun factor. And the store may not have even 1 manned checkout and will expect me to use the self-checkout, which I refuse to do. I guess I need to look at it as a fun drive, and anything else will be icing.

45 The MPG requirement is so simple anybody can see it's to force manufacturing of EVs. If they don't sell, production averages out on the mileage requirement. Because they don't sell, manufacturers have to increase prices on those that do. Then they force feed the non selling EVs to the dealers, and their floor plan payments go through the roof. Chevy Volts sat around a real long time.

59 Todays Gospel - Jn 8:1-11
Jesus went to the Mount of Olives.
But early in the morning he arrived again in the temple area, and all the people started coming to him, and he sat down and taught them. Then the scribes and the Pharisees brought a woman who had been caught in adultery and made her stand in the middle. They said to him, "Teacher, this woman was caught in the very act of committing adultery. Now in the law, Moses commanded us to stone such women. So what do you say?" They said this to test him, so that they could have some charge to bring against him. Jesus bent down and began to write on the ground with his finger. But when they continued asking him,
he straightened up and said to them, "Let the one among you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her."
Again he bent down and wrote on the ground. And in response, they went away one by one, beginning with the elders. So he was left alone with the woman before him.
Then Jesus straightened up and said to her, "Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?" She replied, "No one, sir." Then Jesus said, "Neither do I condemn you.
Go, and from now on do not sin any more."

90 Simply put, Laws (statutes) are made by legislatures and interpreted by courts

Regulations (rules) are made by bureaucrats and interpreted by administrative law judges.

The way it usually works is like this, the legislators pass a law that says "The Secretary shall regulate x,y,z..." and then the Secretary of whatever bids his minions to write regulations. There is a process for regulating and rule making. They are published in the Code of Federal Regulations. Tens of thousands of pages.

103 I'm back from the Walmart near me, and I have no desire to go into one again. Nobody is manning the regular checkout line, whereas they usually have someone even early when the store opens. I politely ask a nearby employee, "Is there anyone scheduled to run the checkout?" She gives me a stupid and arrogant look. "I dunno. Ain't my depawtment."

I ask the greeter, again politely, if she knows. She calls to some other drone, who repeats sullenly, "I dunno."

I wouldn't mind their not knowing, if they would say, "I'm sorry I can't help you." Instead I get an arrogant stare and a growled "I dunno." WM makes a point of hiring the stupidest people in town -- and here, that's really saying something. I'll go to the local chain and pay 5-10% more for the privilege of having real checkouts and sensible employees.

104 There were a few imports in the mid 70s that easily exceeded the 40mpg requirement. Most would seat a family of four very small people, had the structural integrity of a Kleenex box, and got lighter as weeks went by, increasing mileage. This was due to parts rusting away, sometimes starting on the showroom floor.

106 The most infamous of the eight cases in question involves the 2013 sentencing of Wesley Hawkins, who was 18 when he was busted posting videos to YouTube of boys as young as 11 being raped by adult men.

Jackson, citing his young age, sentenced Hawkins to just three months in prison, as opposed to the 24 months recommended by prosecutors.

'I am not persuaded that two years in prison is necessary,' she said at the time, according to the new transcripts, citing Hawkins' 'future potential'.

107 On the good side, I gassed up and saw 23.57 mpg for the last week on 1/2 ethanol-free gas and 1/2 E10. And the price of regular at that store is $3.63 with my Exxon card. The compelling thing about the Hybrid Wrangler is that you can select engine operation from full gas, full electric or hybrid operation.

Electric only operation is optimal for rock crawling in 4x4 Low gear in MOAB environments because of the tremendous amount of instantaneous amount of torque that can be generated by electric engines.

I have no problem with Hybrid Engines, Electric only vehicles are extraordinarily stupid, pointless and useless.

In one of my art books on surrealistic painters there is a painting by Salvatore Dali. In one of the paintings he depicts himself as a naked six year old girl, because he believed himself to be a young girl at that age. His perception mostly occurred in the late 1890's. So this stuff isn't some brand new phenomenon. Kids grow out of it.

If you do an image search on 'Dali sleeping dog' you can find the painting.

177 There are still many places in the US with no cell service. I know its hard to believe living in a city, but rural living is different. So if you hike alone in the mountains, your on your own. Our family has a camp on the Delaware River in NYS and cell service is pretty sparse, with the mountains everywhere. And your only about 100 miles from NYC. Even getting Direct TV is difficult unless you hunt for a signal with all the trees.

I've been doing this for roughly the last decade, I shop at stop and shop, they have hand scanners that you can carry with you and scan your purchases as you go, I use canvas shopping bags, it makes the food shopping experience so much better.

The problem is stop and shop seems to be the only company that does this.

A video posted on Twitter allegedly shows a fight broke out. Then moments later, gunfire erupted, along with the sound of automatic gunfire.

At Aldi's you put your stuff in your cart, then unload it onto the conveyor belt, then the clerk scans it and puts it into a empty cart. There's an area for people to bag, and you can buy really good paper bags there that last for months for less than a dime. We have five plastic crates that we carry in the back of the car and we tend to 'bag' out in the parking lot. When we get home *I think* it takes less trips to and from the car using plastic crates vs shopping bags.

that doesn't work
at the grocer I use (King Sooper/Kroger), when you scan an item, the scanner expects the item to be placed on a carousel next to the scanner. This carousel is pressure sensitive. each scanned item has to be detected by this pressure-sensitive carousel- the weight of your scanned stuff has to go up- or the process is halted and an employee is summoned.

228 All this talk about the annoyances of grocery shopping. Am I the only one here who quit in-store grocery shopping 4-5 years ago when Kroger introduced Clicklist Pick-up? I have not set foot inside a grocery store since then. "Shop" on the website, place my order for a date and 1-hour timeslot, park in area to pick up my order at that date/time, employee brings out my order and loads it in back of my Jeep, 5 minutes later I am on my way back home with my order.

Been saving at least an hour per week with this - not to mention the aggravation of dealing with people and lines in store - for the past 4-5 years.

234 I learned something yesterday. Gas would not flow from my 20lb LP bottle. I thought there must be something wrong with the valve but YouTube showed me that modern LP bottle valves have an emergency cut off that should trigger if the flow rate gets too high, if the hose was cut for instance. It is basically a piston that gets pushed out by the flow, and then sticks. So I had to take the hose off and push into the output with a screwdriver until the piston clicked back into the valve innards.

I would previously reuse the plastic bags that didn't have holes in them as liners for the multiple small trash cans I have throughout my apartment. They were, by definition, not "single-use plastics" which is one of the modern day worse-than-Hitlerisms.

Now that the stores at which I shop have largely abandoned them in lieu of paper bags, I've purchased and use small plastic bags for the sole purpose as bin liners thus creating more plastic waste. Congratulations, dum-dums.
