The Morning Report - 3/24/22

uhurakentanjibones.jpg

Good morning, kids. Thursday and the tragicomedy of the Kentanji Jackson confirmation hearings continues. The natural reaction to this farce is to laugh at it, but considering who this person is, where she came from and where she is likely headed, we're laughing all the way to the gallows. To someone who is old enough to remember a time of relative sanity, this woman would never have been allowed to come within a thousand miles of a courtroom except maybe with a bucket and a mop to clean it in the dead of night. Is it "racist" and "sexist" to make that statement? Well, like everything else the Left destroys because we have allowed them to control language, it depends on the context, and as the arbiters of absolute right and wrong, they've decreed that concept to be strictly verboten.

But, so long as this little corner of the interwebz is free, let me 'splain you. Thanks to garbage like affirmative action, which I thought had been rendered to the dustbin of history but has been reanimated into the form of Diversity-Inclusion-Equity - DIE - how do we know Judge Jackson has what it takes besides melanin, ovaries and most importantly the correct politics to have even attained a JD the old fashioned way, by earning it, instead of being graded on a curve? We don't. But let's assume she actually did make her bones by hitting the books and honestly getting good grades. Her record as a judge is beyond atrocious, as are her political beliefs.

But Psaki Psircling back to melanin, ovaries and politics, both Marsha Blackburn and Ted Cruz, among others, were batting Jackson around like a cat with a cornered mouse regarding the nature of sex, gender and what constitutes being a woman.

Joe Biden’s recent Supreme Court nominee Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson, whom the president has admitted was nominated in part because she is a woman, stunned listeners on Tuesday when she refused to give a definition of what a woman is.

“I can’t. … I’m not a biologist,” Jackson said after Republican Sen. Marsha Blackburn asked her to provide a definition of the word “woman.

But for not knowing what a “woman” is, Jackson loves to use the word. Here are 14 times she invokes the fairer sex in just the first two days of her confirmation hearings, plus 34 times she’s used the word in her legal opinions as a judge. . . ”

. . . Repeatedly using a word she says she “can’t” define is not a good look for a potential Supreme Court justice. Blackburn should ask Jackson: What did you mean by “woman” all of those times you said and wrote it?

Yes, it's all well and good. But had I been up there questioning this fool, I'd have had this exchange:

Senator Sefton: “Can you provide a definition for the word ‘woman’?”

Judge Jackson: “No, I can’t. I’m not a biologist.”

Senator Sefton: "Judge Jackson, are you a woman?"

Judge Jackson: “Hummina, hummina, hummina, well, uh, yes.”

Senator Sefton: "How can you make that determination if you're not a biologist?"

Judge Jackson: “Hummina, hummina, hummina, Norman! Coordinate! Get this cracka' Jew-boy out my face!”

At which point Dick Durbin would fling the gavel at me. Somewhere up in Heaven, Paddy Chayefsky is looking down on all this, trying to warn us that his oeuvre was meant as entertainment, not as an instruction manual. Meh, why am I getting worked up over this? In all likelihood, this nightmarish woman will take a seat on the Supreme Court. In a way, I feel sorry for her. Unlike so many who have wasted their lives in prison, dissolution or an early grave as pawns of a political movement and party that have abused them for generations, Jackson has had all the advantages of a system that created the likes of Clarence Thomas and Janice Rogers Brown, who by all rights should be sitting on that court right now were it not for the hideous, grotesque actions of Joe Biden and Dick Durbin among others who have the fucking gall to crow (no pun) about championing the first black woman to the SCOTUS.

It's not about race. It's not about sex. It's not about gender. It's not about trivial differentiators, or insane ones like transgenderism, that set a minority apart from, and against, the majority. It's all about politics and whom the Democrats can use as the means to obtain power, either at the ballot box or via a corrupted culture that is overturning society all by itself.

Still, all of this begs the question, how could Clarence Thomas have gone one way and Kentanji Jackson the other? Meh, so say by some miracle she doesn't make the cut. There are dozens, even scores of mind-numbed racialist automatons that think exactly like her, waiting in the wings.

Democratic pundits, worried about the midterms and Joe Biden’s terrible approval ratings, are sounding the alarm: That dastardly “fringe” is hurting the party.

“This whole noisy, identity left” composing “15% of the party” has taken over (James Carville). “The Democrats have to step away from the super wokeness” (MSNBC host Donny Deutsch).

But what’s the distinction between super wokeness and ordinary wokeness when the party’s oldest and most mainstream members are all pushing ideas that would have seemed outlandish in the Obama era?

Biden offered a Fed nominee who said she wanted to deny credit to the fossil fuel companies that power America, and tried to put an actual Marxist in charge of the currency. Only 10% of the senators in the party spoke out against this.

The party’s new legal superstar, Supreme Court nominee Ketanji Brown Jackson, can’t offer a definition of a woman because “I’m not a biologist”? Being moderately woke is like being moderately pregnant.

Democrats now view everything in terms of who’s being systematically oppressed. The reasonable view of racism is that there has always been racism in America. The woke translation is that America is defined by bigotry. From there you get to “I have no idea how to distinguish a woman” in about three intellectual moves.

And speaking of Justice Thomas, he has yet to be released from the hospital and there's no news on his condition.

Ugh.

The End of America: 100 Days That Shook the World available here.

    ABOVE THE FOLD, BREAKING, NOTEWORTHY

  • "As stewards of public monies, it seems prudent that a state would not give public dollars to businesses which have established as their mission that certain key industries such as coal, oil, gas, mining, or agriculture should be cut off or penalized. But a reasonable bill to do just that did not even get a hearing in Idaho. Yes, Idaho. If that is not a blaring wakeup call, I don’t know what is. And, if that does not tell you exactly what time it is, you need to wake up."
The Environmental, Social and Governance Threat
  • Kyle Smith: "Democrats now view everything in terms of who’s being systematically oppressed. The reasonable view of racism is that there has always been racism in America. The woke translation is that America is defined by bigotry. From there you get to “I have no idea how to distinguish a woman” in about three intellectual moves."
It Isn't the "Fringe Left" Hurting Democrats — The Fringe IS the Dems
  • Victor Davis Hanson: "The prophets of the new world order sowed the wind and they will soon reap the whirlwind of an angry public worn out by elite incompetence, arrogance, and ignorance." (not to be "cruel" like my boss Ace, Dr. Hanson, but it's going to take a hell of a lot more than elections for the fiends who destroyed America to receive a true comeuppance, but, maybe, it's at least a start - jjs)

Nah, it started when a gay couple left an adopted Russian child in a car and the child died. That upset the Russian people so much they had a moratorium on adoption practices and voted to cut off the supply of infants to the USA.

Which put a nip in the bud of that little fad among the gays.

31 This decision also reinforces my prediction that no orbital flights will occur out of Boca Chica before summer, and are more likely blocked through November. It also increases my expectation that the first orbital flight might not occur at all in Texas. The longer the Biden administration delays SpaceX's operations there, the greater the chance the entire Starship/Superheavy launch program will shift to Florida.

For those not following the EPA madness, SpaceX in Boca Chica has been hounded by a small group of (primarily out of state) nutjobs worried about the effect of launches on beach grasses. BehindTheBlack speculates the Junta won't let any more launches occur there until after the midterms, because reasons.

36 You know, if I wrote a governing administration as inept and just plain stupid as this one - even in a farce - I'd be told it was too over-the-top unbelievable.

I mean, look at the cast sheet:

A President who is an obvious dementia patient who loves his icecream.

A VP who answers every question with word-salad of pseudo-profundity.

A Gay Cabinet member who needed to take several weeks of "Mxternity leave" to "nurse his adopted baby."

A Press Secretary who is essentially a pathological liar and conflict avoider.

I mean, it's as if the Democrats looked at the old show West Wing and decided "Let's do that for real, but as a satire!"

40 Even a little bit of thought could have sidestepped the "What is a woman" question. Rattle off some possible rubrics, and briefly expound on how none of them alone are completely satisfactory (at least in her world view). Baffle 'em with bullshit.

Chromosomes are the obvious go to, but genetic disorders exist. Cultural identity is another, but evolving gender traits and roles can make it ambiguous. Et cetera. Bullshit, but at least demonstrate that you can spout off some bullshit to a stock question without beclowning yourself. A weak willed punt like "I'm not a biologist" not only gives the game away that biology is the sine qua non of gender identity, it just makes you look like a fool.

Of course, i follow Alinsky here in judging her by her own rules.

As funny as this is (and it's hilarious), they won't learn the correct lesson from it (meritocracy is a good thing). So they'll either a) accept this as a "cost of being anti-racist" (yes, really - amazing that it costs them nothing, just their children's potential futures) or b) find some way in the future to claim they are part of the victim class.

The only hope is that Little Johnny goes to trade school, finds out what real work is like, and decides that these left-wing policies he's been spoon-fed his entire life are stupid and starts being more conservative/libertarian.

79 But what's the distinction between super wokeness and ordinary wokeness when the party's oldest and most mainstream members are all pushing ideas that would have seemed outlandish in the Obama era?
++++
Speed. That's the sole distinction, The older radicals who built up the environment that the younger radicals are now hurtling through at breakneck speed wanted gradual development until the stage was set for sudden victory. The difference is in where they think we are.

The younger radicals think the stage is set and it is time to run toward the sudden and total victory they were promised. The old-fashioned radicals think we're not yet quite ready for the final push. It's the difference between Raskin (Biden's failed Fed nominee) and Chomsky (who argued passionately back during the *Obama* administration that the young radicals were pushing too fast and he was worried they might lose the game). The older "moderate woke" types are being dragged along by the younger. I don't think they like it much, but they're in too deep.

SpaceX is a microcosm of how things change with administrations. SpaceX was ready to go with the Falcon and the Dragon/Crew Dragon capsules during the Obama administration. They more or less constantly had launch windows canceled, faced sudden obstacles to using facilities, saw delays in testing, etc. It probably added 5-7 years to Falcon/Dragon development.

Once Trump was in office, most of that official interference ended and they put men in space and were launching quickly and on short turnaround for their new Starship design. Now that Trump is out, we're back to official interference and they're probably six months or so behind where they would have been without the administrative change.

There's a reason Musk is working to build a sea-based launch platform.

Oh, lordy, yes. "I think a doctor would know more about it than you do."

1 - Why? Most doctors are not hematologists or histologists. The fact is, your GP often doesn't know what's wrong with you when they prescribe medicine. They know a list of things that could be wrong with you and just pick the most likely one. Lucky for us, most drugs are pretty broad acting, so as long as they're close, you'll get better.

2 - Why would you assume a *GOVERNMENT PAID* doctor would be telling you anything other than what the government wants you to believe? He has a mortgage to pay, too.

3 - If anyone in authority ever tells you something that simply defies common sense, there's a good chance they're wrong.

2) The FUS lost big time in Afghanistan and other countries due to the Woke idea that when in a War that is allegedly worth fighting, its important to give your enemy every opportunity to define what is off-limits, and when they don't do that, then you allow women's studies majors to identify and continually expand that definition.

I love VDH, but this is preposterous wishcasting. He is likely not wrong about the former, though he may be optimistic on timing. There will be a major pushback that will result in failure. What comes next, though, will *not* be a Great Restoration. When the perversion that America and the West have become finally fails and is destroyed, what will replace it will be something else. It will be a third condition, neither this nor the previous. There is no such thing as a return to the status quo ante. It never happens and will never happen.

What will replace this when it is all over will be something else. If they win, it will be technocratic totalitarianism. If they lose, it will be something unfamiliar. My bet is on pseudo-monarchy, but who knows.

144 Yes; No drive Sundays is an attack on the church and Christianity.

Muslims and Jews notably left alone. Its the latter that causes suspicion to your accusation. It may be that the people we are dealing with are so inbred stupid that for even/odd "remedies" they can't deal with a hebdomad week and are confused by fortnights or considering rotating weekdays, such that Even is always M/W/F and Odd can never be anything other than Tu/Th/Sa.

146 The Selective Service tweet...

Yea, I think that's the product of a mid-level bleeding heart liberal who's in the Selective Service's media department and decided to go off the reservation and put out that garbage.

The government used to have pretty tight media relations. Typically only certain people would be permitted to discuss issues in public. Then, as digital media evolved, the "press offices" grew larger to include social media.

Several months ago there was a host of pro-trans shit coming out of "official" Army, Navy, Marine, Air Force accounts. Whether or not those messages were sanctioned at the top or by the "real" media relations people and not some mid-tier staffer is open to debate.

149 Oprah is releasing a movie that shows America just how badly the blacks have been oppressed and were denied EVERYTHING in life to succeed.

It will air. People will watch it. People will believe it.

--

If it's any consolation, it's just another broadcast in a never-ending stream of relentless "America sucks and blacks are horribly oppressed" shows designed to keep the hatred ramped up to 11. TBH, unless you're one of those who drink up that garbage like it's your lifeblood, most people are thoroughly sick and tired of being pummeled with that crap. The virtue-signalling yard signers will tune in. Blacks will tune in because they live and breathe this stuff. Everybody else is sick of it.

167 When Donald Trump got elected in 2016, marquee journalists announced partisan reporting would have to displace the old, supposedly disinterested approach to the news.
There is a common theme here.

++++
Yes, and that theme is Marcuse:
Liberating tolerance, then, would mean intolerance against movements from the Right and toleration of movements from the Left. As to the scope of this tolerance and intolerance: ... it would extend to the stage of action as well as of discussion and propaganda, of deed as well as of word. ...
Withdrawal of tolerance from regressive movements before they can become active; intolerance even toward thought, opinion, and word, and finally, intolerance in the opposite direction, that is, toward the self-styled conservatives, to the political Right ...
When tolerance mainly serves the protection and preservation of a repressive society ... it must begin with stopping the words and images which feed this consciousness. To be sure, this is censorship, even precensorship, but openly irected against the more or less hidden censorship that permeates the free media.

This ain't new.

Try to be a little less suburban and a little more cosmopolitan, CAT. It's clear that the physical credit card will soon be a thing of the past. It is already technically unnecessary as it could be app-driven and make use of near-field communication facilities in your mobile phone. The waste of physical cards is only needed because of regressive and change-skeptical consumers. As we move further into our environmentally-friendly future, these will be done away with.

There will be merely one device - your mobile phone - that is connected to all commercial, financial, identification and state-related functions. The small environmental implications of this single device are still present, but more than offset by efficiency and environmental gains made elsewhere through the elimination of unnecessary, redundant and duplicative systems.

Yes, of course. Social Credit schemes here aren't going to be like they are in China. It won't be the Party dictating who does what and who is restricted from what, etc. It will be the companies with their ESG goals as dictated by their woke boards that will do the enforcement. If you don't want to participate, you won't have to. You'll just have to pay a lot more for everything you buy and do and will be limited to where you can live.

Never purchase a car that depends on external connectivity. Ever. My "new" car (not so new anymore) is a 2017 model that has a cell radio in it for the manufacturer's version of OnStar. That connectivity is not a requirement. Unplugging the cellular antenna renders the system isolated.

This is the forefront of property rights and consumer protection, and it is unsurprisingly where the most aggressive battles are being fought.

From Apple to John Deere, the war over ownership is raging right now. I own the hardware, but not the software. The software is required for the hardware to function. If I adjust, reverse engineer, crack or otherwise acquire or subvert the software in the interests of repairing, maintaining or altering my use of the hardware I own, I am in violation of licensing. If I sell parts with modified software, I am in violation of licensing.

This battlefield is generally described as "right to repair" and it is tremendously important.

But, Democrats in DC gigging at the clever dodge doesn't see:
Every Democrat this fall is going to be asked, "what is a woman?"

Ketanji has created a problem for Team Democrat. I expect that last night Ketanji was re-briefed on the Team's definitions for woman and female and given CYA talking points to use in further hearings and media interviews. Talking points that attempt to limit further damage by her, while also limiting damage to vulnerable Democrats in November.

I also expect Team Dem/Media will do a public "Cleanup on Aisle Ketanji" operation, reminding everyone that biology does NOT give a complete definition of woman and female in Correct Thinking. When do they do it? Maybe it started today on CNNMSNBCNYT. Maybe the big reminder starts after she is out of committee or confirmed by the full Senate.

297 the SEC is set to start requiring "carbon production" figures in mandatory filings. Not that any of it can be calculated. It's like the opaque and arbitrary absurdity of a "Value-Added Tax" (VAT), just on steroids.

The creeping influence and requirements of the "Environmental, Social and Governance" (ESG) movement are pernicious to the extreme.

That's not the goal, as I understand it.

Gensler, who is a back-office Goldman Sachs hack by the way and did nothing to actually produce revenue and he always hated actual business people, wants to make companies explicitly state environmental goals in 10-K's.

Numbers.

Then, the ambulance chasers can sue them for any "failures" to meet those "goals". This effort is all about money for a favored constituency, lawyers. Who cares that he loads the economy with all sorts of regulatory burdens, lawsuits, and uneconomic real costs...

Out of Nowhere: Driver of Red Truck Flipped Over During Tornado Talks
The driver of a red pickup truck seen in a widely-circulated video flipping over on Highway 290 during a tornado in Elgin says the twister hit "out of nowhere" and adds he's "blessed to live another day."
"It just happened fast," said 16 year old Riley Leon.
Leon said he was on his way home from Whataburger where he had gone for a job interview.
"I actually called my friend. I was like, I got the job!" Leon said. "Everything was going good."
The tornado pushed his Silverado on its side, then bounced it back upright, before he appeared to simply drive on.
"On the video, it looks like I drove off but in reality I didn't" he said. "I landed in the center of the road and I was just driving to get off the road."

I'm not sure it's an "act," exactly. You see it really commonly. Virtually everyone feels drawn toward various groups indifferent areas. In this case we're talking about political groups, and in this country, that is usually broadly defined as Left & Right. Whether that's a meaningful distinction is a matter of debate, but that's how most people perceive it.

However, when someone's preferred political grouping violates their personal values of X, Y, and Z, they just dismiss it. It ceases to exist in their minds, or they rationalize it into something else. So what often appears as someone being a hack, is actually that person fooling themselves.

In short, seemingly principled people who behave hypocritically about these things are willing dupes. This applies not just to outspoken or "political" people. For instance, every person who votes (for any reason besides naked self-interest) is acting out this dynamic.

I had a different reaction. I heard applause and that happened each time an Member stood up and condemned the little schmuck.

He's no rock star in that chamber, or any chamber, even his own Parliament. Leads a minority government, so he's not even a rock star with his voters.

The EU is a socialist organization by definition, the leading globalist organization in the world. Any dissent is a good thing, particularly in the ruling class.

No Senator, it does not.

Well Judge - how do you know that? You are not a mathematician.

370 Well the TX AG expressed wholeheartedly his notion that Austin was breaking the law.

Did he do anything over the child endangerment?

No, too hard.

But he sees it.

That is the beauty of so many laws in this multi-tier justice legal court political system.

The politicians can exhibit all kinds of virtue in writing toothless "laws" that have no penalties or remedies for violation.

I'd lay money that the whores and second story men would do a better job teaching math than the educrats.

I am not joking.

I don't really doubt it, having witnessed first-hand the alarming ignorance and stupidity of some of our local teachers here when I did some volunteer work at a school. I had to explain to one teacher the meaning of "packed by weight, not by volume" on a package of candy (she was incensed that there were different quantities of candy in two bags. "But they each cost the same, so there should be the same number of candies in every bag!").

373 Stranger Danger has evolved to Teacher Danger.

It long has been prima facie evidence of child abuse if any parent sentences their spawn to government/public school.

374 If a teacher or therapist at school tells you to keep something a secret from us, whatever they are telling you is bad, and the reason they don't want you to tell us is because they know it is bad and we would be mad at them if we knew. So if a teacher tells you to keep something secret, you must tell us.

At some point a kid has to wonder why we're sending him to people who would do this, you would think. I guess that'll be the topic of a future conversation.

Also the country western one with Mojo Nixon, but it's crass and horrible as you'd expect. Lots of fun, though.

376 There have been many comments made, both here and in other media, regarding stocking up on essentials, especially food. The inflation we're experiencing is not going away so it is a prudent line of thinking to spend your $1 before it's worth $0.75, and shrinking.

It's interesting though that interest rates are predicted to go up by 1/4% at the fed level whereas the credit card/bank rates went up dramatically a couple of years ago. This ties in to stocking up. The banks feel the need to cash in/stock up now, not they were ever failing to make money. Expect 35% credit card rates over the next couple of years. Expect companies that rely on a credit line to operate to continue price hikes to offset the bank's loan rate. Expect folks up and down the food chain to default. Expect the election of 2024 to be a nightmare regardless of who runs. Expect the financial pain to extend until late in the decade. Expect me to grow more tomatoes, peppers, and cucumbers.
