56 Georgia passed a law last year to go to permanent DST but still changes the clocks. Why?

The Uniform Time Act was adopted in 1966, basically, to stop states from doing their own Daylight Saving Time schedules.

The trick with the Uniform Time Act is states don't have to observe Daylight Saving Time - and two states, Arizona and Hawaii, don't, instead staying on the permanent "fall back" timeline.

But you can't go in the opposite direction - staying permanently on Daylight Saving Time an hour ahead - without Congress' blessing.

Posted by: fd at March 12, 2022 06:26 AM (vrz2I)

57 This laws gonna put an end to all that, gonna put people in a much different position to be able to determine their own, their own judgments about when to sell their cattle, when they should gonna change things!

Given that it is an immutable law of Nature that the federal government can't pass any law that benefits mankind or allows human flourishing - this ends the debate on what time system to adopt Daylight or Standard when the people of a State become collectively sane and deny politicians their institutionalized abuse in altering their circadian rhythms.

It will be our first full year in our new state, 2021 was 1/4, 3/4 and the sale of a house. 2020 we still had mom as a dependent and both of these situation made taxes tricky. Our goal is to owe the feds zero and pay the feds zero. Our accountant helps by reviewing our account throughout the year. Hubby gives here very detailed info to help.

To fully democratize yet avoid chaos, if I was WEF chairman, I would make a world decree that all clocks are set to UTC. Instead of having store hours, meeting times or events scheduled to various dynamic regional time offsets, just reference the time in common UTC.

So when someone says that a meeting is scheduled for 1600, everyone in a geographically dispersed company isn't asking "Whose time zone"?

That will help the deficit. But no, let's not restart drilling and fracking because you need to appease the greens who will never, ever vote for pubs.

(sigh)
Anyone who is 29 here has seen this show many times. All politicians lie. This is hardwired into their pea brains. All politicians are utterly corrupt and are routinely bought and sold. This is physics, its inevitable, its written in the stars and in the Bible.

So when you see them talking trash about suspending fuel taxes or when Fauxahontas is screeching about "obscene profits" that is for your consumption. By making these claims they have put themselves into the position of fulfilling their Great Words into something tangible - which means that their staffers are in heavy negotiations with energy producers, pipe-line operators, bankers, et al to quietly amp up domestic production.

181 176 We had to raise starting wages by about $2 an hour over the past two years to get people into the mill. Starting wage is $18/hour. This has worked pretty well, but employees are already starting to feel the crunch. Many, most, commute 25 to 60 miles because we're the best paying jobs fin the area. Nasty cycle is already starting to show itself.

Posted by: rhennigantx at March 12, 2022 07:16 AM (yrol0)

182 Not necessarily, with lower demand, producers will scale back production to support a particular price target or range, if demand drops to a point where it is not economically feasible to produce oil, then oil will no longer be produced at all or in such limited supplies that it will necessarily cause price increase in whatever niche markets exist.

True, lots of American producer would go out of business. However the Saudis (and some other OPEC countries )would still be able to make a profit, but not very much They would still be pumping and selling ery cheaply. People might have to even start having jobs over there.

This will force, to some degree, a re-evaluation in labor and its best use. If you have a questionably profitable organization, outfits that have a better business model will outbid you for labor that has shared skillsets.

Problem is, that this becomes far more regionalized. That great opportunity that was sixty miles away doesn't look as good as the lower quality gig that is six blocks away.

We have two options the way I see things. The Biden administration comes up with a new covid variant that shuts down the entire country and the federal government just keeps printing more money. Wage and fuel challenges get solved since everybody's stuck at home getting drunk and committing domestic violence on each other.

Or we have a world war which requires a draft. Pretty much full employment and the gas price problem is solved. Of course the second option has certain downsides which include nuclear radiation.

Well, it really depends on what you're doing with your network and what your needs are for uptime, bandwidth and reliability.

My entire house is wired with CAT6A to a centralized patchbay, router and firewall in a small rack enclosure in my utility room with a mesh WIFI6 network to handle remote locations on my property and for roaming networking.

I know a guy who strongly believes that tomorrow is the day his ship comes in playing the slots. Believes the time change fucks with the random number generators. I have been reading reports that people are bailing out of being Uber drivers and related delivery services due to the cost of fuel. They simply don't get paid enough to offset the cost. I also suspect if they do start getting paid sufficiently to pay for fuel that it will make their services so expensive that people can't afford to use them. It's double-edged sword here. Shifting hard into a green energy universe is only going to drive those costs up more with the added bonus of everything becomes unreliable.

257 I only use a few CAT-5. From the fiber optic "mother ship" to a lan repeater, then from there to the Set Top Box for the TV six feet away and the desktop computer 6 inches away. Everything else is wireless.

Even though pretty much all serialized communication is encrypted there is this thing about wire over wireless. The tablets, phones and Kindles will need the wireless, but the stationary stuff feels like it wants no degradation due to distance, walls or microwave ovens. 2.4G and now 5G is pretty crowded.

259 Yes, re. Baldwin:

||Alec Baldwin claimed that he was following Halyna Hutchins' directions when he pointed what turned out to be a gun loaded with live rounds at her on the set of the movie 'Rust' and pulled the trigger, killing the cinematographer, according to a new court document.

The actor made this allegation in an arbitration demand that his lawyers filed on Friday against his fellow producers. The document also maintains that Baldwin's contract protected him from financial responsibility related to Hutchins' death.

Baldwin has been named as a defendant in multiple lawsuits that have been filed in connection with the fatal shooting.||

That is a rule of economics. Governments routinely throw negative disruptions into the economy. These disruptions cause chaos and thus degrades efficiency.

If the Greens weren't about chaos and communism and were really about the environment through efficient use of the best technology, then they would take the exact opposite course they are taking now and pledge to leave the markets alone for at least two decades. No lawsuits, no edicts, no mandates, no government picking of winners and losers. No "Name That Fuel".

It would take years to amortize technology and processes that create true efficiency and savings.

It is a big nudge. You can't widely adopt electric cars until there is charging infrastructure, and they won't build charging infrastructure until electric cars are widely adopted. And car manufacturers won't invest in making more models until there is interest. So the government is forcing the issue by making fuel unaffordable. Tesla was taking a huge risk by doing it the free(ish) market way. Just build the dang cars and stoke interest. Improve the technology. We are about 5 years from having more practical everyday cars for everyone. The government is early with the push, but the left knows a blowout is coming in Nov, so they are pushing as hard as they can wherever they can.

Nope. The government has been forcing the issue for years with legislation and regulations and fines associated with car companies not meeting ridiculously high targets for greenhouse gas emmissions and fuel economy. Such that we (I work in auto industry) have no choice but to go complete electrification in order to even have a chance to meet these ridiculous targets on the ridiculous timelines.

In 2025, the fines kick in. If greenhouse gas emissions are not met, then the company cannot sell cars. Period. If fuel economy targets are not met, there is a certain $ amount applied to each 0.1mpg away from target.

Customer/public want has nothing to do with what the auto industry is doing. Everything is driven by government regulations/fines, which were put in place by environazis. I'm looking to get out of auto industry, because it is going to collapse.

btw - when you TV "economist" say that recession is coming - they mean Depression, and they know it, and anyone who looks at what's happening today knows it. Yep, it's another reason that they needed to get rid of Trump. He intended to relax the ridiculous CAFE standards. At minimum, he was going to extend the timeline, as 2025 is impossible to meet with some of these targets. The targets for decades had been increasing by a reasonable percentage. But under Obama, they jacked them up to ridiculous amounts.

I work for a company whose previous CEO had the correct stance that we were not going to build any more electric vehicles than were necessary to meet the stupid government regulations. Because he rightly stated they did not make money for the company. The customer didn't want them and they were net losses. So we had no long-term EV plan in place 10 years ago.

Unfortunately, he died a few years back, the election got rigged and Biden Admin got rid of Trump's easing of CAFE standards, and now my company is on an impossible accelerated timeline to switch from ICE to HEVs and BEVs.

They have done this with everything over the past decade or two. Use every institution of information dissemination to spread "the narrative" about any and every issue. Hollywood, TV, radio, sports "journalists", media, social media, sports athletes, and now TikTok "influencers". Everyone is now in the employ of the government to spread the narrative.

It's downright scary and creepy. Started with "global warming", then they moved to COVID and now they're doing it with Russia-Ukraine. Break between songs on my Classic Rock radio station here in Detroit they talked about donating to Ukraine. Ukraine affects us not at all, but the narrative messaging is freaking everywhere.

They accept as truth whatever they are told, and they are not educated enough, or too apathetic, to determine its legitimacy. It's why the government and their liege have dumbed down the education system. It's created an entire class of ignorant zombie boobs all to willing to follow their diktats without any intellectual intervention. That's how you get "81 million" people voting for this foreseeable, preventable disaster. Ergo, the number one item on Republicans agenda should be school choice. for a bit more rational explanation of why Amy Clark Meacham did this - she's a Texas District Court Judge up for re-election this November for the 201st District Civil Court, based in Austin. She is doing whatever she can to ensure that the LGBT crowd in Austin - and there are a lot of them - shows up and votes heavily for her. That's her constituency. The automobile is one of the most amazing inventions of the last 100 years to contribute to the freedom of the individual to travel. Simply amazing to step back and realize what we all take for granted with the use of an automobile, the infrastructure in place of roads and interstates, the simplicity of refueling in a very small amount of time with refueling stations all over the country. 100 years ago, people were not regularly traveling outside their own cities or states. Now people regularly travel across the country for jobs, vacations, family visits, etc.

Automobiles and affordable ownership for everyone opened up a bigger world for everyone in the world.

And of course the Left wants to either take that away, or use it to track our movements and control us. Maddening.

379 The aggravating part about being involved in designing EVs is that it would be really fun and exciting if we were not forced to meet this ridiculous timeline of having to succeed with something within 3 years or the company could potentially go belly-up. The technology is fascinating to learn about, the different ways that our competitors have executed some of these strategies for the systems is interesting and it would be great to have the time to setup our vehicle Architecture to support creating an ideal system.

Instead, we're under such a time crunch that we have to work with the Architecutre that was setup for an ICE system, have to use off-the-shelf powertrains that are being used by our competitors (who have better Architecture to handle the size of this stuff) and are basically trying to force 1000lbs of shit into a 500lb box. What should be an exciting time of innovation and creativity is just non-stop stress and aggravation.

That American spirit of wanting to be free and and independent and travel seems to be gone from younger generation?

I wanted to learn to drive immediately as a teen, because I wanted to be able to go places. Road trips were awesome when I was young. Traveled all over in my 20s. Drove back and forth from Purdue to Indiana U to date my girlfriend in college, drove to my internships in Evansville, IN one summer and KC, MO the next summer.

Being able to drive is freedom and independece to me. I can't understand how anyone would not want to learn how to drive.

had this conversation with a 20-something cow-orker; they were all jazzed about autonomous cars. I said "what if you get in the autonomous car to go to work and the car checks and sees you have an unpaid ticket or something and it locks the doors and delivers you to the police station?"

400 John D Rockefeller might have been a robber baron, but he essentially developed and bequeathed us what eventually became a national distribution network, where throughout the continental US a driver was never more than 50 miles from a reliable gasoline provider.

I was thinking about that this past week. Related to all the episodes I have seen of Modern Marvels, the early seasons where they talked about oil and gasoline and asphalt and airlines and the railroads and the highways and bridges and dams etc. Businessmen from about 1900s-1970s were of course about making money, but they were doing it by improving the lives of people.

Now, it seems since the 1990s-2000s or so, businessmen are about decreasing freedom, and increasing control of people. Or using things that were originally thought to improve lives of people -- personal computers, internet, social media -- to now control people, control information dissemination, etc.

402 Oh, as regards Travis McGee's Rolls pickup, he told us in the Sixties that she was not quite old enough to vote. So it was probably a mid-Thirties model, a Silver something-or-other. The vehicle turns up in a number of the novels. In The Long Lavender Look, around 1970, he's in an accident with it, an accident that leads into the main adventure. But he does get it repaired.

405 I had an orange, accented with streaks of rust, Maverick for a "mill car" back in Ohio. Best car I ever had as far as starting even in crap weather. Other than that, it was just a couple hundred buck bomb so wife's car wouldn't get messed up.

That happened to Will Smith in "I, Robot", right? Where the autonomous vehicle locked him in and was driving him somewhere. People really need to pay more attention to movies and TV and such. It is becoming more obvious that these fictional situations are actually the non-fictional dreams of these lunatics for the future of our society. I, Robot, Minority Report, Total Recall, etc. And stuff like Maze Runner series and Hunger Games series. All about elites controlling the masses.

408 At eighteen I was driving across the country. Sure I was better than most but it was no big deal. No one in my high school, male or female would allow themselves to not have a license but by 16. They would have had to be in traction to prevent it

These days you see thirty year old males driving cars with stickers that say, "New driver, be patient". In my day, no kid would embarrass himself that way. Today it is a point of pride

Exactly - look at the history of Mulholland in Southern Cal, for example. The movie "Chinatown" is very loosely (and not very factually) based on Mulholland and the things he was up to at the time; but he's the man who more than anyone else created the economic engine of SoCal. Which leftists have now taken over and are destroying.

412 >>Comets were relatively classy.

I high school my buddy bought a Comet from the surplus Post Office auction. Classy is not the first word that comes to mind but we did have a ton of fun with that car. 3 on the tree and a sewing machine for a motor but it was easy to fix and cheap to run.

He stole a model of the Hulk from his younger brother and we super glued to the hood as a hood ornament.
