Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm Demands Energy Companies Do Their Part and Start Producing More Energy
Flashback: "If you drive an electric car, this would not be affecting you"

The absolute balls.

Recall that just one week ago, Jennifer Granholm said flatly that the higher costs of energy we were suffering was just something we were going to have to get through as we "transitioned" to an economy that did not run on oil and gas, but on made-up, imaginary sources of energy that child-minded progressive smoothbrains prefer.

So this is their entire plan. As Barack Obama admitted -- or proudly declared -- that under his plan of punishing real energy production, "energy prices will necessarily skyrocket." They intended to artificially inflate the costs of real energy by several times in order to make the sky-high costs of fake energy appear competitive with it.

But then, when people start feeling the pain of this deliberate policy, they start making excuses, like this being "Putin's price hike."

Which all of the NPCs then start repeating.

putinspricehikenpcs.jpg

And they also start talking about workarounds to the intended consequences of their own policies, like releasing oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve.

They could achieve a much larger effect by simply rolling back their oil-limiting policies, of course, but they will not even consider that: They intend their energy-punishing policies to be permanent. Temporary band-aids like releasing some oil from the petroleum reserve are intended to just be temporary, something to get the energy-destroyers past a bad couple of weeks of polling while they wait for the public to accept the New Normal of Permanently Elevated Energy Prices.

So here's Jennifer Granholm making another one of these temporary token workaround efforts while refusing to even consider rolling back her own Department's energy-destroying measures which are driving the high cost of energy.

Which was the entire intended point of them.

Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm publicly called on oil and natural gas producers in the United States to boost output while the country is on a "war footing."

President Biden's most senior energy official made the remarks as the administration looks for ways to reduce gas prices, which have skyrocketed even further during the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

"We are on a war footing," the energy secretary told an economic forum in Houston on Wednesday. "We are in an emergency, and we have to responsibly increase short-term supply where we can right now to stabilize the market and minimize harm to American families."

Notice -- we have to increase "short-term supply."

They want to keep long-term supply limited, because they want energy prices to "necessarily skyrocket."

But there are crisis points when the public begins showing signs it is no longer quiescent and may just rebel, and at those crisis points, you have to mollify them with a short-term palliative and pretend you "care."

Before going right back to performing painful deductive surgery on them, forever.

hollywoodgasprices.jpg

Lefties were swarming that tweet by a local CBS news station, pointing out that it's known to be one of the highest-price gas stations in California.

Why you can still get gasoline at $5.60 at most places, they say.

Oh!

Oh. I did not realize they were just giving gas away these days!

See what I mean about slowly getting the public to accept the New Normal of Permanently Elevated Gas Prices?

Granholm in November: Gas will be $3.05 per gallon by December, so we don't have to increase oil production.

They're still operating by polls because, for some reason after most of the things that allowed for months of mail in ballot cheating from 2020 were repealed in one way or another across the country at the state level, they are acting like voting matters. Also, there's no consistency to this approach because no one is actually in charge.

So increased energy output and lower prices and a greater degree of energy independence is good when there's a war on, but not good - in fact, it is so not-good that it is in fact so bad it borders on criminality - when there isn't.

Yes, because energy companies just exist to do the bidding of the US government, or rather exist to help the polls of whichever idiot Dems are in office at the moment. Also they need to do this because we're on a "war footing" (we declared war on Russia?). Of course the energy companies aren't blameless in this either, having gone full envirotard but still.

36 The oil industry spokesman was on CNBC earlier saying productive leases are pumping at an all time high utilization rate.

What's missing, they say, are new leases of federal land. Two federal courts ordered the Biden administration to comply with law and auction new leases, but the administration has flat out ignored those courts, according to the industry dude.

58 The good news -- to the extent there is any -- is that oil and gas are largely futures markets. The current cost of gas, for example, is largely dependent on what the industry expects the future costs to be. The gas that's currently at the pump has already been paid for and produced at whatever the price was at the time.

Why is this (somewhat) good news? Because if someone gets their fucking heads out of their jive turkey fartclams and opens up domestic production like Trump did, gas prices at the pump will fall quickly. We won't have to wait for the lower oil prices to ripple through the production process. But who will that somebody be? [crickets chirping]

Invent a room temperature super conductor that is about as easy to produce and utilize as copper wire and then you have something. you simply do not have the ability to replace petroleum based energy with current tech, and power distribution. The toxic mining, electricity generation and distribution capability isn't feasible. Its like "he's going to cure cancer guys". FFS - wake up.

About 18 months in, they started charging. The ones that are like gas stations do charge, as far as I know. The chargers in parking lots at the mall will vary. Sometimes "free," sometimes full freight, sometimes subsidized, etc.

175 Maybe a nickel a mile for a Tesla, for the electricity. If gas was $3/gal and car got 30 mpg, that would be a dime per mile.

That does not figure the initial extra $30K for electric cars, nor the subsidy involved for EV. Nor the lifespan of the vehicle, or of the battery.

Those factors make the EV more expensive, even assuming electricity does not skyrocket along with gas prices, and that enough electricity is available, and that you don't need to drive more than 100 miles at a time.

But regardless, the smug "this would not affect you if you drove electric" ignores all the other costs going up, and the potential depression dangers ... that would certainly affect even the Davos oligarchs.

Posted by: Marcus T at March 10, 2022 03:27 PM (nkAm6)

It has the appearance of being cheaper because the battery only hold like the equivalent of 2 gallons of gas. ICE engines are only like 10-15% efficient. Battery electricity to motor is quite efficient, 80-90%.

The electric car owner is not seeing the least efficient part of the cycle. High efficiency power stations are only ~30% efficient.

230 A typical EV battery requires 8 kg of lithium, 35 kg of nickel, 20 kg of manganese and 14 kg of cobalt. Electric motors in EVs utilize kilograms of magnetic rare-earth materials like neodymium and dysprosium, which are expensive, produce lots of waste and have various mining concerns. Much of the nickel currently comes from Russia, the lithium and rare-earth from China.

Put these pro-EV politicians on record saying they support the mining operations in the US required to make these EVs domestically or by child labor in the 3rd World.

You can't make EVs with "unobtainium".

You're not going to build an electric combine, you're not going to build an electric tractor that can haul 53k pounds across the country, you're not going to build an electric jet, an industrial park cannot be powered by solar panels or wind.
There is also the problem that the infrastructure doesn't currently exist, also because of the supply chain issues these maniacs have created, you cannot get any of this in sufficient quantity, OR AT ALL.

They are also in the process of cancelling the countries that would supply the components and finished products to enable their fantasy.

How stupid and foolish. In my opinion, the finest rendition of Tchaikovsky's violin concerto (sadly, the only one he wrote because it was hated and universally panned in his own time) was performed by David Oistrakh in 1954. He played it on an instrument in the USSR's preposterously named "People's Stradivarius" collection. The USSR was an evil empire built on an evil philosophy and Oistrakh was a brilliant violinist who was then used for propaganda by that same evil government.

But you know what? It's sublime. It's nearly transcendental. It is in my library and I listen to it routinely.

Mendel was quote-tweeting a video clip of Harris's press conference with Polish President Andrzej Duda on Thursday, where the vice president laughed when asked a question about Ukrainian refugees. Mendel apparently later deleted her tweet.

The one that really was a tip off here was that Boston removed their clot shot/vaxport mandate for restaurants, even though the official numbers say 90% of Bostonians/80% of massholes have been clot shotted.

I have three vehicles, a 2021 F150, 2010 Avenger & a 2007 Ranger. All owned outright. Forcing me to buy a $30,000 EV means I have to come up with an EXTRA $30,000 that I'm not spending now.

In S America and Jamaica and places like that, you can see some places where they remove the meter and bridge the gap with meal bars. It's dangerous as hell, of course.

I'm sure I've seen a device somewhere that special forces use. They throw this sharp hook thing over a power line. It cuts through the outer sheath and connects directly to the line. They can then power whatever devices they need. Some EE somewhere could figure out how to replicate this thing.

A Tesla will cost over about $3.50 per mile for those first 20,000 miles, not counting charging cost.

588 This seems significant......

One caveat: As Tesla has proven time and time again with the Model S Plaid, it's best to approach its claims with a healthy dose of skepticism until they've been independently verified. Take the company's stated 1.99-second 0-60 mph and 9.23-second quarter-mile times for the Plaid, which as it turns out require a sticky, prepared launch box used for drag racing to achieve. We tested the car both in this Tesla-approved manner and using our usual methodology-so, on an unprepped surface like that of pretty much any road in the world-and found the car to be slower in the truer-to-life scenario. Of course, slower is a relative term here, as it still managed a blistering 2.07-second 0-60 run and a quarter time of 9.34 seconds.

Nah. The same reason they'll oppose solar, if it ever starts to scale. And they'll hate Fusion from Day One. Cheap energy equals more personal freedom. They can't stand that.

623 But cereally, a nuclear engineer told me a couple of years ago that nuclear could be providing virtually all of our electricity needs if the nuclear industry had been left free to innovate. He said government regulation after Three Mile Island strangled everything, and nuclear would be much cheaper and much safer today had that not happened.

Insty pushes that a lot. All existing nuclear reactors are 1960s technology. State of the art has gotten a zillion times better since then (reactors that can't melt down, notably) but nobody wants to go against the environmental lobby and build them.

Here's your calibration. Chemists sometimes use catalytic hydrogenation to reduce olefins, aldehydes, ketones, etc. Chemistry departments traditionally have had special sheds to carry out such hydrogenations remote from the main building so that they don't blow up the entire department if someone makes a mistake.

I hate them - or more specifically most of the drivers (some of their plates are a plea for a face full of tire-iron). The things are ubiquitous in the bay area, 1:5 cars is a tesla. And I have to assume that brakes and turn signals are an unaffordable option. The drivers love to do the dragstrip thing, but as soon as the road gets twisty, they're lost (not the car's fault).

I'd have a real problem spending $120k+ on a car that is identical to the one on your left, or the one on the right, or the one you're behind. With a bad paint job. I can go weeks without seeing my model of car, but I can't go 3 minutes without seeing a white Tesla S (I would actually bet money on this). Besides the limited lifespan of the battery - I have to wonder just how long the electronics in that car are good for. It's like a fast iPad. Bricked by an update.
