Happy Hyena Cafe

I thought I was being punked but apparently this is real, and one of the six complexes built on vertiginous pillars of stone at Meteora, Greece. The site might jog your memory as one of the monasteries there, the Monastery of the Holy Trinity, was the site of the climax of the James Bond film For Your Eyes Only (where it was called, fictitiously, "St. Cyril's").

I think the one pictured is the same one pictured here, St. Stephen, which became a nunnery.

Update: 99% sure this is the Rousanou Monastery, based on that entrance stairway.

By the way, they call the buildings "meteorite structures." "Meteor" originally meant high or lofty. The pillars weren't created by meteor strikes, but by volcanoes, I think.

Commenters say this shows the carved out face of the Carrera Mountains, from which Carrera marble is quarried. You can see the stepping-stone carve-outs in the slopes there.

I think they know it's not coming in forever, and it's not just for kicks. I know a lot of people who are buying things that will keep value during inflationary times, and some are buying things that will keep their value and are small enough to hide.

My MIL used to tell the story of her two cousins just prior to the Great Depression. One bought things of value and didn't save a lot, the other saved a lot and spent like a miser. The one who bought ended up much better off than the one with the investments and money in the bank.

When the moving large object got close enough, it was a Hyena. They are big. Really really big. Its face took up the whole side window when he peeked in. The windows were up of course, and it was a Suzuki, so not a big car. Huge bugger though.

9mm is well-traveled and ammo availability/expense is a plus. Downside is DIY can have reliability issues with mags and proper buffering. All told, I'd stick with the superlight AR.

Yes, but it's worse.

It's so akin to straight up asphalt, that I'm told it has to be cut with gasoline, to become liquid enough to even BE refined. "Worlds' Largest Reserves", my ass. I don't have it at my fingertips, but I think there's less "useable" (refinable, and not burnt-off as waste), product per bbl. of Venezuelan Crude, than about any other.

Yes, a chimney is a bit where lava flows up from the chamber below - most often in the crater on top, but not always as it can force it up. If the crust gets split and stretched too thin, lava will come right up without a cone and cover entire states with miles of goo.

Pumice is light because it is ejected out in explosion, like foamy rock. Lava proper is denser - Obsidian is like glass - and I think some types of basalt are so dense that the continents and sea bottoms float in them like corks.

Nick Zentner is a geologist-instructor at a uni in Wash state, he has a lot of lectures and streams about Geology of the northwest, where in the last 100 million years we added a couple of states worth of land onto the west coast. Worth a watch and very accessible, I think,
