The Quotes of The Day

Quote I

“This unspeakable tragedy highlights the true cost, unintended or not, of sanctuary policies that prevent law enforcement from protecting its citizens,” Sacramento County Sheriff Scott Jones

Quote II

“Our side — the elected Republicans — sit on their asses and they don’t do a thing.”Bo Snerdley (aka James Golden)

Quote III

“Mr. President, we are inspired by you and the strength and courage of the Ukrainian people.”

“The people of New York and its large Ukrainian community stand with you,"Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY)

Hey Chuck, do us and the Ukrainians a favor. Go over and stand with them in person.

Quote IV

“[I]f we ever want to be truly free of the ability of dictators to blackmail us over oil and gas, we should be investing right here at home in renewable energy technologies."Congressional Progressive Caucus Chair Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-WA)

Pramila, you ignorant slut sleazy politician.

Why it's almost as good as a wheelbarrow of pennies.

The Russian Federation is essentially announcing a strategic default and will pay individuals or entities deemed enemies of Russia to be repaid in Russian rubles on dollar-denominated debt, or other foreign debt denominations.

Moscow. 5th of March. INTERFAX.RU – Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree “On the temporary procedure for fulfilling obligations to certain foreign creditors,” the Kremlin press service reported.

Good old asset forfeiture. It's a world wide phenomenon.

Authorities in Italy froze two yachts belonging to sanctioned Russian billionaires on Friday. Italian police froze the Lady M yacht—owned by steel magnate Alexey Mordashov—in the port of Imperia, according to a tweet posted on Saturday by Ferdinando Giugliano, the media advisor to Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi. He also added that the country’s tax police froze the Lena yacht, owned by oil & gas mogul Gennady Timchenko, in the nearby port of Sanremo.

GARNER, N.C. — An Apex man’s arrest this week on a charge of impersonating a law enforcement officer was not his first. Court records show Devin Alexander Stenulis, 34, has arrests on the same charge from 2017 and 2018.

Wake County Sheriff's Office deputies seized his vehicle this week, saying it could easily have been mistaken for a law enforcement vehicle. After searching his vehicle, deputies found a vest with a North Carolina fugitive recovery agent's badge pinned on it, according to photos released by the sheriff's office. Court records show Stenulis previously worked for Golden Bail Bonds in Raleigh and a LinkedIn profile associated with Stenulis said he had worked as a fugitive recovery agent.

Isn't there any responsible adult in the circle jerk inner circle of Joe Biden? Why depend on foreign oil from the bad guys?

Several senior Biden administration officials from the White House and State Department traveled to Venezuela on Saturday to meet with the Russian ally as Moscow’s economy begins to crater under the weight of sanctions, according to a report.

The U.S. is hoping to capitalize on Russia’s economic weakness three years after the Kremlin – along with China and Iran – came to Venezuela’s financial aid when the Trump administration cut diplomatic ties with Caracas and imposed sanctions on oil exports in the Latin American country amid Western accusations of an illegitimate election, The New York Times reported, citing sources familiar with the matter.

Most of Venezuela’s oil exports went to the U.S. before the sanctions.

The oil thing not upsetting enough? How about the USA playing footsie with the Iranians with Vladimir Putin supplying the aphrodisiac.

Joe Biden Spits on US Allies to Secure a Deal That Makes No Sense

Guess who’s at the forefront of helping secure that deal? That would be none other than Vladimir Putin, who the United States is ostensibly at economic war with over Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. About now, you are probably asking how that makes any sense at all. But stick around, because I promise you that it gets even worse.

Recently, I wrote two articles noting the seeming subservience of the Biden administration to Russia (see here and here), even as Biden himself has trotted out the tough-guy talk for a gullible public. Yet, behind the scenes, it appears that a deal with Iran has taken priority, even as Putin continues to bomb cities in Ukraine.

But hang on, I told you things would get worse. According to Kenneth Vogul, the Biden administration is now looking to normalize relations with the communist Maduro regime in Venezuela. How does that connect with the Iran deal? We’ll get to that in a moment.

It's not dementia folks. It's absolute hatred of the USA and the American way of life. I believe he is a traitor and should be tried, convicted and sentenced as one.

A vaginal problem at the southern border. Quickly, have the VP go down (phrasing?) to the border.

US Border Patrol Sees Spike In Women Smuggling Fentanyl In Vaginal Cavity

EL PASO, Texas – U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers working at the El Paso area ports of entry have encountered individuals attempting to smuggle fentanyl concealed internally on their bodies over the past two weeks.

“It is tragic that people are willing to put themselves in these dangerous situations,” said CBP El Paso Director of Field Operations Hector A. Mancha. “This synthetic opioid is so powerful that if a package were to rupture inside the body, the consequences could be life threatening.”

Well I know one thing. While in high school this woman excelled in hypocrisy and Karen.

A Florida mom was hilariously lampooned on Twitter after her hypocritical, self-owning rant against Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis went viral.

Dawn Marshall, the mother of a student at Middleton High School in Tampa, told WFLA-TV on Wednesday that she was furious because the governor had told students they could take off their masks if they wanted to.

“You do not have to wear those masks,” DeSantis told students while walking toward the podium for a news conference at the University of South Florida. “I mean, please take them off. Honestly, it’s not doing anything and we’ve got to stop with this COVID theater.

I have no idea if she is a doper. More friction between the US and Russia.

WNBA champion and two-time Olympic gold medalist Brittney Griner has been detained in Russia and could face up to 10 years in prison after customs officers found "vapes" containing hashish oil in her luggage back in February, reports say.

The Russian Federal Customs Service released a statement Saturday confirming that an American "two-time Olympic basketball champion" had been taken into custody in February after a narcotics' dog at Sheremetyevo International Airport near Moscow alerted the athlete’s luggage.

Streaming giant Netflix is suspending service in Russia, citing that country’s invasion of Ukraine. They join numerous entertainment companies and other businesses who have halted business there.

Netflix already paused all of its production and acquisitions work in the territory, Deadline sources confirmed.

One Netflix original project in production is being halted, namely the detective drama series Zato.

Two further pieces of content Netflix commissioned from Russia, including its first Russian original, Anna K, the contemporary retelling of Leo Tolstoy’s classic novel Anna Karenina, have already wrapped and are undated – there is no update about plans for those at this time.

A new term that I had never heard. But, I like it. Transgrifter. Lot of that going on.

‘HE’S TRANSGRIFTER’: The evolution of an ‘EXPERT’ on whatever is the latest hot thing to be an ‘EXPERT’ on

The death of expertise? More like the proliferation, because as self-identifying smart people say so often when sneering at people like Joe Rogan or Joe Blow on Twitter or Facebook or Instagram, “everybody’s an expert.”

That snark has some unintended truth to it, though, because the media will treat any egghead as an expert on any topic, assuming the nerd in question is willing to tow the party line.

Journalism is dead. Why the feds don't just take it over is beyond me. Fox News & Newsmax Took Biden Money To Push Deadly COVID Vaccines To Its Viewers

Corporate news outlets did not disclose the money they took to push dangerous drugs to their conservative audience

Two days ago, Chris Pandolfo at Blaze Media revealed that his media organization had filed FOIA requests regarding the Biden Administration’s covert funding of the deadly new vaccines and the American corporate media. What they discovered will certainly shock you — and it’s a crucial story that our corrupt media will work hard to make the least covered and least discussed news story of the year.

Doorbell Camera Shows Real Estate Agent Showing Home That Isn't For Sale

When a house is listed for sale, real estate agents often bring prospective buyers in it to show them the home. The listing agent typically gives instructions on how the showing agents can get in - sometimes there is a lockbox hanging on the doorknob, sometimes there is a hidden key, and sometimes a side door might even be left open. It's all perfectly normal. What isn't normal is when an agent enters a home that is not for sale to show it to clients, but that's exactly what happened recently, and it was all caught on the homeowner's doorbell camera and then shared on TikTok.

This really isn't surprising to yours truly. Tonight's Feel Good Story of The Day.

According to a preliminary study that will be presented at the American Academy of Neurology's 74th Annual Meeting in April, owning a pet, especially for five years or longer, may be linked to slower cognitive decline in older adults.

"Prior studies have suggested that the human-animal bond may have health benefits like decreasing blood pressure and stress," said study author Tiffany Braley, MD, MS, of the University of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor and a member of the American Academy of Neurology. "Our results suggest pet ownership may also be protective against cognitive decline."

The study looked at cognitive data from 1,369 older adults with an average age of 65 who had normal cognitive skills at the start of the study. A total of 53% owned pets, and 32% were long-term pet owners, defined as those who owned pets for five years or more.

I see Althouse picked this up...and declared it was racism. And most of her posters tore her a new one for it.

And it amazes me. Did Brown do well or not? Well...obviously if she did they'd whip out the scores to show it. But...they aren't.

So then what part of asking to see her scores is racist? And, here's where we have to get into the meat of it. The leftwing argument is something like, "Well scores, and even what you troglodytes would call intelligence is a white supremacist idea!" So, judging her by a white supremacist idea is...well..duh...racist.

But they can't say that out allowed - so they just throw the accusation of racism out and make it nebulous.

38 The best part of the energy crisis is that the one energy resource that seems to be plentiful in many areas of the world (including the US) is that there is oil and natural gas in abundance.

The worst part of the energy crisis is that the electric vehicle requires the use of exceedingly rare and difficult (if not impossible to recycle) minerals that simply are not readily available without the possibility of "supply chain" interruptions between foreign sources and the battery manufacturers!

Guess which approach our betters have selected for our future?

Yeah. Watch for those to be For Sale at Fire Sale Prices, from sea to shining sea. +$5 gas is going to shatter that market and industry. I'd also short the hell out of RV manufacturing stocks, if you're so inclined. Me, I'm not a wrecker that way, I'd rather see as many "survivors" make it there as possible. 60 Does anyone think the international community would react the same way if China invaded Taiwan?

It's a Chinese internal problem.

Of course, Ukraine has been independent for only 31 years, and was part of Russia prior to that for centuries.

Taiwan has been under the control of the central Chinese government for only 4 of the last 116 years.

After I saw the video of Lindsey and his McCain in Ukraine cheering for "action against Russia in 2017", I knew that McCain probably had a huge role in the Russia/Trump scam and that they were both there to push for a proxy war. I looked up the LD50 of fentanyl, and it is 0.015 milligrams/kg of body weight. And it can adsorbed thru the skin. Assume a hoo-ha of average proportion and an average body weight of a female at 60ish kg and deduct the heavy wrappings on the product and you get (no, I ain't showing my work, ya buncha mathphobes) -----

There's enough fentanyl in there to kill about 2000 people. Give or take. Yeah, that might cause a 'a few health complications'.

175 The stories coming out about the collapse of the Manhattan DA's criminal prosecution of Trump are interesting.

Trump was accused of talking up the value of his assets when talking to the bankers to get a loan, and talking down the value of his assets when talking to the tax authorities. Of course, if you prosecuted everyone who did that, you'd need a lot more prisons. It's like the Foreign Agent Registration Act - only politically unpopular people get prosecuted.

One prosecutor said that not prosecuting Trump would put them on the "wrong side of history", and another said that even if the case wasn't very strong, they should go ahead anyway - i.e "the process is the punishment".

But one prosecutor was retired from from a big-name New York law firm, and volunteered to help prosecute Trump, for no pay. How on earth isn't this an ethical violation?

And someone knows what's going on at Hostomel, though that's probably only the Ukes and Russkis involved. Russians sure have put on a clinic on how *not* to take an objective, from what I can tell. On top of a botched airborne operation, there've been a few head-scratcher ground approaches that ended up as ambushes, many destroyed Russian vehicles.

It's possible this is a Bernard Lewis situation (describing Iran and Iraq in the fall of 1980) - a resistible force meeting a moveable object. Ukes have limited capacity/resources, Ivan may be not just stepping on but jumping up and down on his schlong. At least in the north and east.

And learn how to use Craigslist's (limited) search tools, and run a search on "Class C", or "Van", to narrow down the number of pages to scroll through.

242 One of the more distasteful things in the culture of Portland and Seattle is the development of "drug user unions" - articulate people who use hard drugs, are proud that they use hard drugs, and advocate eliminating all legal penalties and discrimination against hard drug users. They have had an appreciable effect on normalizing the use of hard drugs in the Northwest, and are prominent in "harm reduction efforts" - handing out free needles, etc.

One prominent open drug user in Portland, "AnarchoPharmacology" retweeted this on Friday:

Alcohol, sugar & caffeine are not softer than heroin, meth & cocaine. There's no such thing as soft and hard drugs. That's a drug war myth

The difference is that the former is normalized by being allowed and the latter is stigmatized by being outlawed

Anyway, legalize ALL drugs

Stock up on rice (brown and Jasmin will store best for the long-term, from what I understand), beans, and flour (potatoes, onions, and carrots, too, if you have a room in the basement that is cool enough to store this long-term) - 50-100 pounds of the rice, beans, and flour would be a good start. Figure out what recipes you like best for these and buy the oversized, restaurant-sized containers of the spices (I bought the 16-ounce ones for each major type of spice) needed for these recipes. Buy whatever canned meat you think you'd like and that you can afford right now and put it aside for later on.

Then add more canned meat, vegetables, and fruits whenever you go into the grocery store in the future.

388 Russians have a very different level of risk tolerance than Westerners, so lighting off a demonstration nuke would not induce anywhere near the same level of panic in Russia than in the West.
Posted by: The ARC of History! at March 06, 2022 11:52 PM (I2/tG)

If Russia sets off a nuke, it won't be a demonstration... probably NATO assets of some kind will be targeted, possibly the Polish base where they are discussing sending some of their MIGS to Ukraine. And if Russia does that, NATO will do a nuclear response. NATO will have to, because any nuke use will now directly threaten the security of every European nation.

I figure in the Burning Times we're about to see, that four bags of this will be helpful if rationed carefully. One measuring cup (which each bag comes with) of this per week should be enough to tolerate while in a state of ravenous hunger.

If not, then I'm in trouble. Where am I going to get all those digestive enzymes it promises that I'll desperately need after eating all those beans I have?

disagree - it's mostly tar, and the infrastructure to support tar production on a large scale has been allowed to rust away. Venezuela has always had to import millions of gallons of gasoline just to cut the tar and get it to flow through pipelines; but that is precisely what is *not* going to be available in this Brave New World.

I rate Venezuelan oil fields, in the current scenario, as mostly worthless. Iran's, on the other hand, are good - until someone gets chippy and bombs the Abadan refinery, which is the choke point for *all* Iranian oil production.

Hungary, on the other hand (a NATO member) is not having anything to do with Ukraine and is acting close to being a neutral on this as possible.
There have been a ton of pledges of "small arms" to Ukraine from various European nations, but I don't think these either get into the country, or end up where they are supposed to go.

Take your dead lithium batteries. Grind them up. Put them in the smelter feed for a lithium smelter. Output? fresh lithium. Same with rare-earth magnets. Neither "rare" element is consumed during the life span of the product that uses it; it just gets degraded as the product loses usefulness. Mining Lithium is not particularly hard, but is is very dilute in formations, and requires a big industrial effort to concentrate and purify. There is a big Lithium plant in China, the area around it looks like lunar desolation; just a ruined landscape.
So I would think that re-cycling would be feasible, if there were enough batteries to keep some kind of industrial operation running.
I know of a couple operations that recycle lead from conventional batteries, and lead ($2300 USD/MT) is not nearly as valuable as Lithium ($7300 USD/MT).

Top global producers are (1) Australia and (2) Chile.

Ahh, but we don't make business decisions, even about industry wide practices, based on what is efficient, cost effective or rational. Our central planners will consult The Oracles of Gaia, make up some numbers involving carbon and regulate away all that offends them.

Wait a min, MisHum! That's a perfect opportunity to "make" your own RV. Buy an old trailer chassis and build it to your specs. And you can post the vids on the hobby thread!
Posted by: OrangeEnt at March 06, 2022 10:31 PM (7bRMQ)

There are lots of "old" RV's out there. Class "A" or class "C". Many have low miles, and are sound mechanically, except for age-related deterioration. Roof failures are common, leading to interior damage. Find an old one with no roof failure, freshen up tires, brakes, etc., and you can enjoy the RV lifestyle for very little money. Some "destination" RV parks ban older RV's from staying there, but you probably won't miss the class of people that occupy those parks.

"Rare earth" elements really aren't all that rare. It's the separation/purification costs that make them expensive.

I've seen a number of sci-fy novels that involve mining landfills as a rich source of elements. Someday that may be true. But not yet. The dried out husk of the Salton Sea contains enough lithium to build millions of EV batteries.

If you can get past the CA EPA permitting process.

Bottom line, unless you're in some super huge king shit band, you're gonna need a side job, and even then its not like it used to be. If I was the commanding general of that column, I'd use the tanks and bones of my own crews to pile up a bridge high enough that it would span the Grand Canyon and then I'd drive over it with the rest of my troops.

Four hours' sleep, and here I am with coffee and an episode of House. This tends unfortunately to be usual for Mondays, since I nap, only about 90 minutes, on Sunday afternoon. It's warm and sticky outside already in March, so a workout will be uncomfortable. And this week at Crazy Town, aka work, will be busy. At least the face diaper requirement is gone.

560 Yesterday I watched a 1961 B-movie, When the Clock Strikes, a sort-of film noir with Merry Anders and other character actors from the '50s-'60s. It only ran an hour and 11 minutes, but it could have been cut by that 11. At several points the actors repeat information we've already been told, and there are a couple of scenes that are very slow. But it was entertaining in its way -- sort of James M. Cain lite.

Who remembers Merry Anders?

Re Russia paying debt in rubles. The sanctions and financial "canceling" of Russia are what caused this. They can't make the coupon in dollars on their dollar denominated bonds because of this. The Western govts. are forcing Russia to go into default. On purpose.

So Putin just says we'll make the coupon in rubles.

581 Gabapentin's n is one of those drugs they all prescribe. I think they say it is in the top five most prescribed drugs.

It is odd because it is used for so many maladies. Doctors argue over whether it is effective. But then again, trusting a doctor on this is like trusting a doctor on dieting advice.

In my experience, get an independent doc you gel with. The best ones always leave for boutique services, so that sucks. The rest look at you as just another rando. They give the generic advice to cover their ass.

Maybe. There's a saying amongst commodity traders; the trend is your friend. The trend is most definitely UP. Betting against the trend is a high risk bet.

But sooner or later, people's behavior on usage WILL change, and there will be a crash. Supply and demand, biches.

Exxons around here jumped .30 on Saturday -- $3.59 to $3.89. I'd gassed up early that morning at a station that was at $3.69, but my Exxon card gives me .10 off. However, I chose to go with the E0 at $3.74. Only .15 more, about 4-5%, but I tend to see about 10% better gas mileage with it.

When E0 is more than 10-12% than E10, I guess I'll stop using it. Though there is an independent service station that offers E0 right now at $3.64. It's hard for me to get to it, but the gas mileage is worth it.
