85 How lefty's view life before modern civilization.

So today I'm going to bathe in the pristine warm stream, pick some berries, sunbathe, and spend the day in a hammock.

What life was actually like

So today I'm going to get up at dawn and start looking for food. Presuming the neighboring tribe doesn't kill me, and I don't get lost in the woods, maybe I can catch a squirrel that doesn't chew off my other pinky. If I get that done before noon, I can collect firewood until dark so we don't freeze to death tonight.

Posted by: 18-1 at March 09, 2022 09:47 AM (ESjRY)

86 Well, this is different and unexpected. I love the way Russell captures the light and conditions of the prairie and how he conveys motion. This one does all of that but in a domestic setting for traditional (I assume) Indians. Can't think of any other artwork that shows such a scene. And he does it so well. The way he shows the feel and appearence of shade and sun, the points of bright, decorative color, and the unusual domestic setting is fascinating, possibly unique.

BTW, I don't use the term 'native American'. I was born here and so that term applies to me as well. One advantage to being old, big, and well-armed is being able to ignore left enforced political correctness.

Mini-rant concluded.

Due to the large native student population, we all learned Native history and culture in school. We all liked that, white, brown, black and red. We also had a lacrosse team back when lacrosse was an almost underground sport, "not for white people" (one of my buddies was one of like 3 white guys on the team.)

111 Everyone remembers the "weeping Indian" PSA from the '70s (an Italian actor, I believe), but I keep trying to pin down a comic commercial from about the same time that also used an Indian character. A brave like the one in the painting today is eating something from a bowl while seated before his teepee. He takes a spoonful, makes a face, and drops the bowl, saying, "No good!" Was that a cereal spot?

112 If and when we get out of the covidiocy for good, among elected officials, no one will have done more to end it than Ron DeSantis. No one else even comes close.

I remember when DeSantis was one of the few governors fighting the narrative and Biden threatened to close the border from FL to the rest of the country.

And DeSantis responded by saying he'd send the national guard to keep it open.

More then any individual event I think marked the beginning of the end of COVID mania.

It is the world's largest permanent exhibition space for Western American art. It is absolutely wonderful; you can easily spend an entire day seeing all the exhibits, including many Russells and Remingtons. They also have an extensive sculpture collection including many large-scale works. Very much recommended!!

I guess a lot of the Northern Plains tribes got named by the French or the Americans because of some cultural trait of theirs. Nez Perce = "pierced nose," though I've heard those Indians never actually adorned their noses that way. Flathead, Blackfoot, etc. More southerly tribes like Comanche, Apache, Arapaho, etc., seemed to keep their own names for themselves, or at least didn't get dubbed with something in English that stuck.

Extra body and facial hair is not as much of a problem with Indians, or with East Asians generally (Mongoloid race, as they used to be called). I expect if there was something to be removed, they either plucked it out hair by hair, or singed it off. I don't want to think about either alternative.

280 Its worth noting that the Keystone pipeline was not designed to carry American oil. It was supposed to move Albertan Tar Sands oil down to the Gulf coast to our refineries or beyond. A certain canuck we all know has been doing his best to shut down the Tar Sands operations on his side of the border.

It wouldn't have helped the current situation, given that the damned thing wasn't completed. But it sure doesn't help either.

That said, blocking all future federal leases really fucks with frackers. Fracking wells may start on Private land, but since their horizontally drilled can cross quite a bit of land distance, crossing multiple owners and if the Fed Gov is on that list and you don't already have a lease from them?

Well, you're fucked.

I've been in sales all my career. When I first got out of school I was doing B2B sales and driving 6 - 700 miles a week at times, sometimes more. 341 It totally is an apocalyptic cult. There's a hampster gurl at work. Back in the day, before dissent was proscribed (5 years ago), I pointed out that enviro goals would kill most people, including us, because we're not super rich. She was all "good, there are too many people, if I have to die for Gaia, blah blah."

Now, of course, she's full of shit... She's an incredibly self-centered individual who can't stop yammering about her vagina and her truth, no matter how inappropriate the venue. She would weep so many tears for herself, if it ever came to pass.

But that virtue signal is so important for her - she'll loudly clap for the conductor on the camp train when she's being carted off, just to show she's a hampster gurl in good standing.

Even if every American (and the tens of millions of illegal aliens now living here) ditched their gas-powered car and bought an EV, we'd still need lots of gas and oil.

Most of the electricity generated in the U.S. comes from fossil fuels. People who charge their EV batteries by plugging them into the wall are still using fossil fuels. Electricity doesn't appear in the wall socket by magic, as the left likes to believe. Most of it is put there by fossil fuels.

422 It sells poorly because the people who buy it buy it as an only car.

The folks who buy Teslas have two or three other "real" cars.

You ever notice professional mechanics own 4 or 8 cars...but what they actually drive is usually a Toyota Corolla?

Posted by: Mark Andrew Edwards, RIP Oregon Muse at March 09, 2022 11:02 AM (XvPQV)

423 And what percentage of an electric car comes from mines in Russia or China?

The people who "care deeply" about the environment only actually care about their backyard. You could strip-mine Canada and American Karens would consider their job done since it's not depressing *their* property values.

424 Not actually true. I directly know multiple families where their only cars are Teslas. They're all gloating about gas prices this morning, in fact.

I'm sure you can point to outliers, but statistically I'm betting it's true.

Teslas are toys.

430 They're designed that way on purpose so that other drivers know you're saving the planet.

I'm not joking. Honda made their Civic and Accord hybrid look identical to their internal combustion engine vehicles, and no one wanted them. Outstanding hybrids, but there was no virtue signalling.

That factor has worn down as hybrids went more mass-market. You can buy identical-looking hybrid versions of everything Toyota makes, and they sell quite well. This means there's no real point to the Prius now, so they said "fuck it" and made it look like it's out of an 80s anime.

-----------------------------------

The Accord hybrid had some very interesting engineering. They had complete done away with the transmission. The engine ran at a constant speed and charged the battery. The electric motor handled the low speed duty and the gas engine clutched in at highway speed. It saved so much weight that it wasn't much heavier than the regular Accord.
