The Morning Report - 2/24/22

mekraineklainron.jpg

Good morning, kids. Thursday and I guess if this were Sunday's Food Thread, it would be Blinis and Maple Syrup. And it would be appropriate since this author confidently declared he would eat his hat if there would be a full scale war in Ukraine. So I guess pass the moose burger and beet-root remoulade. Putin evidently has taken lessons from the Malig-Nancy Pelosi school of theatrics by ripping up the script the denizens of the Klain Kalorama Komintern carefully prepared for him and threw it in their faces like so much confetti. This isn't a "minor incursion" but a full on invasion and assault on the entire country.

Russia has reportedly started to launch long-range missiles toward Ukraine and has aircraft en route to carry out additional strikes during the initial hours of the early morning full-scale invasion into Ukraine.

"Ukrainian officials said an initial wave of strikes targeted military installations, airfields and government facilities across the country, as well as border force installations. Ukraine's border service said its troops came under attack all along the country's frontiers with Russia and Belarus," The Wall Street Journal reported.

"Kyiv didn't immediately offer any official estimate of casualties. But a senior Ukrainian official said he believed hundreds of Ukrainian soldiers had died in Russian airstrikes and missile attacks that began at 5 a.m. local time."Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL), Vice Chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, tweeted out details of the attack seemingly before they were reported elsewhere.

"Russian aircraft are now en route to conduct additional targeted strikes on a number of key defense sites through all of Ukraine," Rubio wrote. "Long range missile launches from #Russia are now underway[.] They are headed towards various pre-selected military sites throughout Ukraine."

Before I start chomping down on that nice tender bit of lining adjacent to the Stetson label, I will say this in my own defense.

Biden and the idiots pulling his strings have not done anything more than sanctions that Putin is already ROFLHAO at, and an angry letter to the New York Times. Even Klain and Company cannot be that out of their minds to actually order American military assets to attack Russian forces just to save face. This is Russia. The former Soviet Union, which still has both tactical and strategic nuclear weapons. I know these clods will do anything to distract the American people from the utter catastrophe of the first year of this illegal, illegitimate junta. But did anyone - Blinken? Austin? Vanilli Milli? Bueller? - game this out to the last move or were they just winging it based on the sole calculus that they weren't Trump. I do not even want to contemplate the sending of American troops into harm's way over this.

Whatever I predicted, the salient points remain:

First: Whatever Russia decides to do vis a vis Ukraine is absolutely NOT in our strategic interest. Period. That said, it was Bill Clinton who guaranteed Ukrainian territorial integrity if they gave up their former Soviet-era nukes that remained on their territory post the 1991 break up. And it was Barack Hussein Obama -"mmm-mmm-MMM!" - who sat on his hands as Russia gobbled up the Crimea and totally shit all over our credibility in the international community to friend and foe alike.

Second: Every American foe was put in their place, and our shitty so-called allies got read the riot act to straighten up and fly right, between 1/20/17 and 1/20/21 - - with the possible exception of the greatest foe we ever have faced in our history: our own fellow citizens who have had a hard on to destroy us from within. That said, it is particularly rage-inducing to hear the comments from that quarter of the Jimmy Carter Memorial Peanut Gallery on how this is somehow the fault of Donald Trump. It is axiomatic that whenever there is a crisis somewhere in the world, a big factor in the equation is the dissembling and fumbling of a Democrat administration coupled with the perpetual stupidity of the Ivy League self-annointed "elite" who infect Foggy Bottom and the foreign policy think tanks like chronic malignant anal warts.

Yes, "the best and the brightest" as Robert McNamara boasted. The man whose raging ego and absolute ignorance strategically and tactically on warfare and geo-politics helped dispatch 57,000 Americans to an early grave in Vietnam. The war Nixon got us out of despite him bearing the smear of the ultimate defeat, which was caused by a Democrat congress that, after forcing him from office (over the equivalent of a parking ticket compared to Hillarygate), refused to honor the Paris Peace Talk agreement to defend South Vietnam in the event of North Vietnamese aggression, tying Gerald Ford's hands, which led to a further 3-4 million deaths in the Communist killing fields. But I digress.

Sure, the left and the media, but I repeat myself, are shooting blood out of their eyes in blaming Trump and calling anyone who criticizes Biden a traitor and a Putin apologist. Worst of all are the fucking bastards supposedly on our side of the aisle - an aisle that is even more fictitious at this point than our southern border - I'm looking squarely now at Pee-Air Defecto Romney.

"Putin's impunity predictably follows our tepid response to his previous horrors in Georgia and Crimea, our naive efforts at a one-sided 'reset' and the shortsightedness of 'America First,'" Romney said in a statement released on social media Wednesday evening.

Romney's statement hinted at Biden's attempt to "reset" the relationship with Russia at the beginning of his term, but more aggressively criticized Trump's "America First" foreign policy.

The Utah senator, and failed presidential candidate, also took a shot at former President Barack Obama who beat him in 2012 for the presidency.

"The '80s called' and we didn't answer," Romney said, referring to a moment in the 2012 presidential debate when Obama dismissed his concerns about the threat that Russia posed to the world.

Funny, but I seem to recall someone named Cofer Black who shared a seat at the board of Burisma along with Hunter Biden was an adviser to Romney's 2012 presidential campaign. But that's neither here nor there, right? You know what? Mitt Romney can go lash himself to an ALCM and drop in on the Kremlin. And he can take Roger Wicker, the senator whose intellectual agility mirrors that of the lawn furniture he's named after, with him.

So, what is the upshot of what's going on in Ukraine? Were it not for the fact that we have a manifestly irresponsible and inept non-leadership steering our ship of state desperate for some kind of propaganda victory they can ride on until next November, and looking at our servicemen and women (transexuals notwithstanding) as cannon fodder expedients, Russia and Ukraine are meaningless to me. The other factor of course is Putin himself. He is doing this because he sees he can get away with it, not just a Biden-approved "minor incursion" - and let's not gloss over the fact that that statement, dementia-induced or G-d forbid not is what lit the fuse - but the whole Ukrainian enchilada. The cornered rat in this case is not Putin; it's the Klain Kalorama Komintern. If they do nothing (and sanctions are nothing) then this will redound on them like a nuclear-tipped Wile E. Coyote trick cigar. Forget the bullshit poll from wherever; there's a new poll out now showing Joey Soft-Serve is melting on the issue of foreign policy (see below). They almost have to do something. And Putin is not going to back down from that, my friends.

What a total titanic clusterfuck, and a potentially dangerous one at that. It seems the more dangerous the consequences the more absolutely unnecessary the trip was in the first place. William F. Buckley has been proven correct, yet again, in his assessment of rather being governed by the first random 3,000 people from the telephone book than the equivalent number of Ivy League grads.

Meanwhile, speaking of clusterfucks, while it is certainly welcome news that Jusitinian Castreau-cescu has revoked the emergency measures, and none too soon as he quite nearly collapsed Canada's banks. But, he and his ilk are tyrants and there is no real opposition to him in the parliament. Sound familiar? He'll do this shit again and he won't back down either. And with that said, there's a Freedom Convoy heading to DC right now. With what is happening in Ukraine about to explode in Biden's face, this can only be a godsend for him.

We saw what happened on January 6th. This is a propaganda coup for the junta, pun intended. Arrests, accusations of insurrection and treason, white supremacy, "glowies" and Antifarians dressed up as truckers with tiki torches causing violence, the whole Megillah. Look we need to protest but this is just playing into their hands. If the US truckers want to make an impact here's a suggestion:

BOYCOTT ALL TRUCK DELIVERIES TO THE ENTIRE NORTHEAST CORRIDOR.

Throw in Chicago, LA, San Francisco, Portland and Seattle while you're at it. That would send a message. The question of course is, how would the left interpret and react to it.

What a mess. Pass the ketchup.

22 UN security council meeting today. I suspect they will do nothing and perhaps not even bluster too much. Our UN ambassador *asked* Russia to stop their invasion. Not even bluster there, no demands (even if not backed up), nothing. Just a request to desist.

Congratulations, Europe. You got what you wanted and what you demanded and what you and your intelligence agencies worked tirelessly to accomplish. Enjoy it.

30 Maybe people who know more about military tactics than I do can help me understand something. Russia built up a major force on the Ukrainian frontier, postured for a couple of weeks, then withdrew only to launch what appears to be a major assault a week later.

Why the buildup and drawdown? Was it covering for crucial pre-invasion intelligence work and then used as a head-fake? Was it to give Russian commanders familiarity with the terrain and expose some their actual active force to the area and prepare? Something else?

43 I can't wait for the "it's Trump's fault" stuff to begin in earnest in the press. There is one hard, cold fact in Russia's recent expansionist behavior: it happens when they can afford it. Putin wants various chunks of the historical Russian or Soviet empires, but he's not stupid. The Georgian war and the last Ukrainian war happened when they had the money. Russia isn't exactly a petrostate, but oil is pretty damned important to the revenue stream. They invade when they have the money and they have the money when oil is expensive.

Trump's energy policy - even more than his tactical engagement with Russians in places like Syria, and his bullying of NATO into taking things seriously - helped ensure a non-expansionist Russia.

Thanks, Brandon!

Because we're a gigantic loose cannon flopping around on the deck launching ordnance in all directions. Markets hate instability, and things are unstable AF right now and nobody knows what the US plans are (and I suspect that "nobody" includes the politburo). It wouldn't surprise me to see some declines followed by stabilization and possibly some retracing of steps, depending on what we actually do.

I don't expect a move on Taiwan until Winter or maybe even 2023. The CCP meets in Q4 this year for the 20th Party Congress. During that Congress, Xi will be installed as emperor for life (even without that title, it will be the effect) and Xi will be able to finish consolidating every facet of power in Red China and be the absolute dictator without question.

Then he will begin his historic quest to be the greatest emperor in Chinese history by finally reunifying all of China *and* cowing the west in one shot with the conquest of Taiwan.

Xi doesn't have absolute power in China and there are loads of domestic and economic problems there. Taiwan is not guaranteed victory, and it will be a tremendous gamble with global consequences whenever China chooses to try it. If you think there's a chip shortage now, wait and see what happens if Taiwan scuttles that part of the industrial base to keep it from falling into Chinese hands.

Not a chance. Not now. Ukraine is likely angling for US intervention, and letting loose with the goods would not be a way to gain that.

When we refuse to do so or intervene and fail, that's when they'll probably drop the hammer if they're going to do so.

The wildcard is Russia since Putin likely has all those details, too. Russians are good at spying. If we're ramping up to intervene, he might try to short-circuit that with an intelligence drop of his own to cause domestic support to collapse.

157 I don't agree that the trucker convoy is playing into their hands. For too long we've fretted over what the Left will do in response to what we do. It has proved paralyzing. And as for boycotting deliveries to sections of the country, I'm afraid that would backfire, i.e., be seen as clinical and premeditatively cruel.

The truckers are moved by righteous cause, and it demands direct expression. We don't know how it will play out; we never do. But it is a time for action.

Sure, that's a variable. But I suspect it might work anyway. Media trust is already collapsed. They control the narrative, but not very many people actually believe them anymore. They can call it disinformation and Russian lies all they want, but a ton of folks will believe it anyway. This is true, by the way, even if it does turn out to be Russian lies.

Our systems are so rotten and trust is so low than an intelligence psyop to engender disruption and crush support would probably work regardless of the whether or not the other player was telling the truth (or the whole truth). As long as it looks credible and ties in to stuff with a decent paper trail, it might work regardless.

Posted by: AllenG #Texit at February 24, 2022 08:28 AM (tcZnS)

No, Ukraine is not part of NATO. NATO has been threatening to add it as a member which is part of Russia's problem. Russia would be content if Ukraine was Finlandized. Finland was never a problem for the Russians because both sides agreed they would remain neutral.

We don't have to like each other to work together. The Russians have specific historic interests. We used to understand that.

Don't offer any suggestions, and when petitioned by the FNM, say, "The junta doesn't act along lines of reason, any sort of coordination would be in self-interest for their Party members. 307 Trump blamed the Biden administration, and the show of what he suggested was weakness, which started with the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan.

"This is something that should have never happened," he said. "This would not have happened during my administration. In fact, some people were saying, why didn't this take place over the past four years during my administration? And it didn't for a very good reason. I'll explain that to you someday. But it wouldn't have taken place, and it wouldn't have taken place right now. It's a very sad thing for the world, the country, and it is certainly sad for a lot of people that are going to be needlessly killed."

338 Great Morning Report.

Willowed cultural news:

On Tuesday Evening, I listened to a few snippets of NPR Calm as I was running errands. An interview with an Irish author, etc.

Anyway, they had a segment about Putin claiming that Ukraine had no culture of its own, and Ukrainian musicians defiantly performing Ukrainian music in response. Including at Eurovision.

One song "borrowed" the language spoken in Chernobyl. As a memory of the people who had lived there.

I guess NPR did not really understand the immediate threat, so they decided to do a hopeful little segment that revealed how Putin had been laying a psychological case for invasion for some time. Defiant musicians were standing up to him. Refusing to perform in Russia, even.

It is worrisome that Putin has been saying that there is no Ukrainian culture. There are only those Nazis there that he needs to get rid of.

Don't discount the cost to transport and warehouse goods. A trailer full of something costs a lot of money that has to be amortized over the cost of the something. It is always an advantage to move high density high value goods in place of low density low value goods.

If it costs me $10k to move a trailer from here to there, do I want to have them haul Samsung S22 phones or saltines?

Russian President Vladimir Putin recorded his declaration of war against Ukraine days earlier, according to multiple reports.
Putin pre-taped the address that aired on state TV Thursday in Russia on Monday, according to the country's Novaya Gazeta newspaper.
The outlet posted metadata purportedly from the Kremlin's website indicating the footage was created at 7 p.m. on Feb. 21.
The Moscow-based Conflict Intelligence Team also noted that Putin, 69, wore the same maroon tie and dark suit during Thursday's address as he did during a meeting with the Russian Security Council on Monday.

It wasn't the Junta, it was all of the politicians that participated in Lock Down Theater, jailing dissidents who clandestinely cut hair or mixed an adult beverage.

it was the FNM that terrified the people with imaginary waves of death.

It was the stoppage of many factories, warehouses and other means of production, who operate on very thin profit margins. It doesn't help that underacheivers were given money to sit on their butts doing drugs and watching Netflix. One thing worth keeping in my mind today: There's a straight line from Russia's attack on the US election in 2016 to 1/6 to today's new invasion of Ukraine. The chaos that Russia unleashed with the election of Trump weakened us to the point Putin feels confident invading Europe.
_____________

Uh, yeah, one tiny problem: it wasn't "Russia" that "attacked" the US presidential election in 2016, it was the Hillary Clinton Campaign's Dirty Tricks Department. They are the ones who fabricated all the "Russia, Russia, Russia -- Trump is colluding with Russia!" bullshit that they fed to their besties in the CIA and FBI (neglecting to mention that it was made-up bullshit from the Clinton Campaign), and that the media dutifully reported as truth.

That is what the reams of evidence from the Durham investigation have shown. These imbeciles who are still swallowing the Clinton Campaign "Russia!" fairy tales need to pull their incredibly stupid and gullible heads out of their asses and take a look around at the real world once in a while.

That's because you're a lying retard. The Ukraine didn't invest in Hunter. Putin did. The people in the West who _lie_ about that and give the treasoncrats cover while pretending to be conservative are just as much a part of the problem as President Joe Alzheimer Petain is.

707 I watched an old clip of Trump in some kind of international round table, Pompeo by his side, where he argues that "trade" and "energy" are two completely separate animals for negotiating. One of the foreign guys was arguing that if we work with (I read appease/weak negotiations) Russia in some aspects that the balance ow working with them helps the relationship or some such crap. Trump wanted to take a hard line when it came to energy, the others were arguing against it and equating it with all trade. I can't find the clip. It was short.

721 Lol. Oh yeah, it's Trump's fault. These people have no shame. Democrats created and ran with the phony Russia hoax, further putting distance between us and the Russians while using them as a political tool. Trump made us energy independent and sunk the Russians main source of income, oil, to a level where they could not sustain their economy. Brandon immediately went to war against the US oil and gas industry, raising the price to record highs and causing us to import over 200 million barrels of oil. Brandon is funding the Russians war effort and his frailty and weakness has given them the green light to invade.

728 I guess the Biden Junta wasn't satisfied with creating domestic enemies, so, they pivoted to creating external enemies.

The Biden Junta is now going to call on all of the people they painted as "insurrectionists" to go fight in a war that was completely avoidable.

729 I didn't think Putin would pull the trigger. I figured he'd just go into the breakaway areas and sit there for a while and let things cool a bit and then take another bite maybe.

I would bet he got some intel that said the Ukraine (at the urging of paste boy) was going to attack so he did what any leader would do and attacked first.

Note he's only taking out military targets so far. This means he's going to rely on all the Russians who live there and moved there to be waving flags in the street when the Russian Tanks come rolling in.

People forget how the Ukraine has just been a memory for a 100 years or so and the majority of it's people are Russian or Russian leaning. And Russia considers it like we would if Texas broke away when Clinton was in and now is trying to make the USA stay out of Kansas. Ain't happening. Ukraine is the bread basket of Russia just like the great plains is ours. No ones going to let that get taken away.

Problem is, he won't stop at Ukraine. There is no disincentive. We need to be very thoughtful how this one is played. I don't think the Eurotrash or our government has the stones to isolate Putin to a degree that it destroys their economy. Without serious punitive action he will eventually get to something we do care about. By then it will be too late. Brandon really has us fucked over a barrel

737 Three words: "Wag the Dog."

This war is intended to attempt to keep Americans from scrutinizing the elections to prevent fraud, which will help the Democrats in 2022. It may not be enough to keep them from losing the House, but enough to retain enough Senate seats to prevent relatively easy GOP legislation in the senate. Finally, the war will prevent Americans from reforming any realistic election integrity laws both state level and federal, so 2024 will be in jeopardy of a 3am ballot dump as well. Note: Dominion algorithms that skew results from Republican to Democrat rely on these dumps and drop-off boxes. It's really that simple and cannot be disputed, so don't even try.
