Last night, I stumbled on a Nitter Redirector extension, which exists for Chrome and Firefox. This extension will automatically redirect any Twitter URL to nitter.net. It works well.
However, nitter sometimes doesn't work right, and it's not working on about half the Twitter links above. It's not the redirector, but nitter itself, saying "tweet not found".
So, there's still some bugs in nitter.

They have either something like our misdemeanors where summary justice handles sentences up to 18 months without a jury. Mayhem is not in the Model Penal Code and so states that use that have folded mayhem into assault charges.
Common law though separated mayhem from assault where mayhem caused lasting injuries to the victim.

Canadian law is kind of strange as was English law when they were under the EU Court of Human Justice purview.
Canada has its Charter of Freedom but much of the caselaw derives from English practices which supposed parliament as sovereign and that limited remedies and relief for bad acts. Canada and England dealt with some by not having the concept of qualified immunity for individual officers for being sued for illegal actions unlike the US. So an illegal search allows you to sue the police officer that did it.
So, we will see what the Canadian courts are made of here as typically they have been concerned more with the rights of suspect classifications of minority groups than Canadians as a whole.

Town had a Border Collie that was used to control the geese at a small lake. The caretaker used to take him out for a run every morning. He'd be on his bike and still that dog would lap him twice. I saw you or someone else mentioning it yesterday so I gave it a whirl in Brave. Works as advertised, but Nitter apparently doesn't handle Twats with "potentially sensitive content" so none of Inman's links will work. I suspect that kludgey, skeevy code would be required on Nitter's part to defeat that assuming it's possible at all.

It works fine in Brave and, ugh, Edge too.
I overwhelmingly use it on Brave where live feeds won't play but videos are fine in my experience; and it doesn't display the whole page using scrolling but cuts posts up into smallish groups so you have to hit "load more" alot to continue through the thread; similarly, if you hit a "see more tweets" link, it goes to a new page and you have to hit "load more comments" again to see the hidden reply, that's usually only one tweet, and then you have to use the back-arrow key twice to get back to the main thread.
Annoying but preferable to both feeding the Beast, and putting up with the new Twatter timed visits being 30-seconds or whatever.

It appears what Durham is building is a criminal conspiracy case and not just individuals acts. The statute of limitations for a single federal crime is usual 5 years but the statute of limitations for a criminal conspiracy is 5 years from the last act of the conspiracy and that last act doesn't even have to be criminal.
The conspiracy against Trump went on into his presidency in 2017, I have no idea exactly when it ended but was during his presidency, so it's pretty likely we aren't there yet. Probably getting pretty close which is why it seems the pace is picking up.

there was a fairly narrow band in the predication across the midwest, they said about 8" for us, right in the middle of the band. That was pretty close, though I think we may have gotten a foot. The band kinda moved South, I think.
Plowing snow is kinda fun ... a cab on the tractor would be nice, but feeling the elements is more many (ha).

Here's a small bit of good news on JesseInDC: He's still on the vent, but for about 24 hours he's been initiating his own breaths, with the vent providing pressure to keep the chest open. I am going back to the hospital to have my gallbladder removed on Wednesday, and they are also going to scope me again because I have strictures in my pancreas.
I am not terribly frightened of the surgery or the procedure. What does burn me is the diet I was put on. Because my stupid pancreas does not tolerate any kind of fat, I'm on a diet that not only bans alcohol and anything fried but also even the "good" fats. So no avocados, no butter, no olive oil, no nuts, no half-and-half, no cheese, no chocolate.
Giving up wine and beer doesn't bother me that much since the older I get the less I drink. But giving up alcohol AND almost everything I enjoy eating as well just sucks.

No, I thought I was going to get it out this week, but when they scoped me on Sunday, there was so much blockage in my pancreas that they couldn't do everything they needed to do. The doc told me my insides are basically all swollen from the scope and need time to settle down a bit before they do the scope again and take out my gallbladder.
I was sore for a few days. Feeling fine now.
And I am very happy to hear Jordan61 does not have lung cancer. A far more serious problem than mine.

I'm foggy on it .. they were giving cheap/free money to banks, banks would buy bonds and collect 3% (or whatever) ... so that floats the banks? It is all massive transfer of wealth ... but just putting it of the fed balance sheets seems cheaper than giving the banks all the money for free, even as they fail to loan out that money (they prefer the secure government bonds)

The Queen is nothing but a symbolic figurehead in Canada. She has absolutely no power at all in Canadian govt. Same is mostly true of her in Britain itself, but she does have some actual formal powers. If she exercised them, it would cause a crisis mostly likely.
In Canada, the governor-general plays the role of the monarch. That office is appointed by the Queen, but on the advice of the prime minister. In the old days, the King could appoint who he wanted, but now it's just symbolic.
Some countries that have parliamentary systems are republics, and there a president plays the role of the monarch or governor-general.
In France, it's different, with the president having some power and the PM having others. It's complicated.

A short lived BBC series some time back was "Garrow's Law", set in the late 18th century, and based on some actual case law. Many of the episodes were about his legal fights against the Crown when the Crown's agents were trying to pull exactly this shit. Formally, it would be "the Attorney General in the Right of the Crown", whence he ultimatley derives his authority. Not much different between that, and "The United States vs John Doe".

338 members currently have seats in the House of Commons: Liberal: 159 -- Conservative: 119 -- Bloc Quebecois: 32 -- NDP: 25 -- Green Party: 2 -- Independent: 1
The Liberals have a Minority Government so need enough votes for 50% +1 [so like 169 votes] when they only have 159 party members. Unfortunately the left-wing NDP have said they are "reluctantly" supporting the Libs; probably the Greens too; so the Conservatives need the separatist BQ to vote against it along with any dissident Liberals like the 3 or 4 MPs who told Justin to do as the truckers demanded and any NDP who genuinely support the workers.
The Senate is more balanced including nonpolitical appointees like an R.C. nun [I think she's still there] and may vote against it that would stop it too.

A really irritating thing when I was watching the YouTube vid of Question Time: There were no subtitles for the French speakers in your Parliament. I got subtitles only in English, not when I actually needed them.
I got the impression that the Canadian Frenchies were quite pissed at Junior. Is the Bloc Quebecois going to vote with the Conservatives on this one?

When I was 15, (And that is longer ago than I am prepared to admit), I heard the news announce that the DOW was up about 200 points because of some reason. Two days later, they announced the DOW was down 200 points FOR THE EXACT SAME REASON! It was my first indication that the media was clueless, lying or both.
