So apparently AMZN has a New Policy where if you come down with The Wuhan Death Miasma AMZN will pay for your sick leave if you have been shot up with the Clot Shot, but will NOT pay you for sick leave if you remain a Pure Blood for any reason.
This is unbelievably stupid from a health management standpoint because essentially AMZN is telling sick employees, who are contagious, to continue to come to work and spread whatever they got going on, whether its C19, the flu, cold, Ebola or whatever. All this Jive Turkey talk has made me really hungry for an open face turkey sandwich. Just in time, my local grocery started a weekly Wednesday Turkey Sandwich and potatoes with gravy $6 special. Not open-face and the brown gravy is a little watery...but that was some mighty fine nostalgia after an 18 year lapse.

Have had several funny encounters with wild turkeys over the years where I live.
One tom fell in love with our car and trotted back and forth from the side to the hood gobbling and preening himself. Kept us there for about 5-10 minutes. Another time, was walking my dog who as a catahoula felt that all things were game to her. Anyway, a turkey saw us and took off flying. Zoomed over our heads at about ten feet altitude on its way to a tall pine. Felt like a B52 going over our heads. Dog was NOT eager to go after turkeys in the field anymore after that. While they are hiding in their panic rooms, they are calling in airstrikes to wipe out whole neighborhoods. There are no brakes on this out-of-control truck the Communists are operating. The Department of Defense's National Defense University (NDU), the premier education institution for military and defense civilian leaders, is planning to host a lecture on how Western countries should adopt socialism in response to the challenge from China - Martini Farmer People never learn. Or rather, they have to keep learning from scratch every generation or two. Take socialism, for example. Mostly discredited with the fall and breakup of the Soviet Union, and now, apparently, roaring back among the imbecilariat in government and academe. An endless reinventing of the square wheel. The messy reality of governing pretty soon strips the regimes of anything resembling beliefs of government virtue in the governed. Smart authoritarians like Franco that want to die in their own bed or Cromwell, reign with a light hand. Stupid ones risk getting shot or killed by their own followers.

Peter Robinson (Hoover Inst.) has done a couple interviews and mentioned one in particular. I don't remember who now. To continue, Gramsci was an Italian Communist and ironically a one time compatriot of Il Duce who started out as a Socialist that changed his stripes. Gramsci wrote his notes as a prisoner courtesy of Mussolini.
Gramsci posits the problem with Marx is that the successful revolutions did not occur where Marx predicted it--in the most advanced industrial nations. So, Gramsci basically posited a takeover of society by infiltration into key institutions was the key. Aka, the Long March through Institutions. Someone mentioned Seinfeld movie references. One of my pet peeves actually occurred in the 90's when all the "comedy" leaders started confusing mere reference for satire.
There is nothing wrong with reference. Reference can be really fun. But it is NOT satire. Inversion isn't satire, either, although it is if done well. A three-year-old can do fairly high quality "reference", and they can probably do inversion too. Satire requires thought and insight. Posted by: ... at February 11, 2022 09:31 PM (dscaa) 452

443 I used Ubuntu for a long time. It was great fun when I had dialup, because every other upgrade would cause problems with dialup. I don't care for Red Hat or BSD for some reason. Just never wanted to try them. The Ubuntu based distros are nice because there's so much software for them. I do need to try the latest Slackware sometime, since that's what I started out with.
Posted by: Notsothoreau ------------- I used to be the call center for several relatives, etc. and at the time, I eventually installed Ubuntu on their computers so I could access them remotely and fix them. It was also harder for them to get into trouble browsing on the internet or opening files that they should not in email or yute ful relatives coming over to run their pirated software. Ubuntu is more corporate but that makes it easier to run scanners, printers, etc. but I never go bleeding edge with any OS now. Posted by: whig at February 11, 2022 09:34 PM (Iq9dF) 462

What we are seeing here is Gramscism which is a different approach.
Posted by: whig at February 11, 2022 09:09 PM (Iq9dF) It's the one that worked in the West, where people were not benighted peasants. Gramsci and Mussolini both understood that the West would need something different than Leninism. Obviously they disagreed rather strongly on the form the Revolution should take, just agreeing that the vanguard tactics couldn't work. The West German Communists adopted it, and taught it to the Americans, who turned it into an art and a science. The only comfort I derive from that is that it's a bitch-made, dickless version of Marxism for soft Western pussies, and may make it easier to dispense with when the time comes. It is as much or as little as you want. Just recently they released again a guided installer but I've not tried it. I just follow the manual. Posted by: whig at February 11, 2022 10:00 PM (Iq9dF) I shudder to think of the fuel budget involved in hucking one of those toasters into space Posted by: Warai-otoko ------------- Unfortunately, we no longer see the type of software qualification used for Apollo and later the Space Shuttle. Basically, Chris Kraft's mantra was don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good. Ironically, I was reading Hatcher's Book of the Garand about M1 rifle development and came across the same attitude. Posted by: whig at February 11, 2022 10:07 PM (Iq9dF) 532
Yeah, that was a weird situation. A Linux company bought what was left of SCO from Novell, change their name to SCO, and then sued IBM for copying Unix into Linux.
Lot of legal wrangling, but they finally lost after over a decade of whining. Posted by: Blanco Basura - moronhorde.com. GUI's are sometimes useful for a quick repetitive task. Command line is useful if you REALLY have to get into the details on certain configurations.
If I worked all the time as a sys admin, I would probably use the command line instead of a GUI for system commands. As a programmer, I would generally use GUI interfaces than command line editors though. Posted by: whig at February 11, 2022 10:10 PM (Iq9dF) 534

Which IDE? I sort of tried to make myself use IntelliJ when I did some Android stuff because of the gui development. I liked it. But I usually never work with graphic front ends. I do mostly back end server stuff, lots of middleware, python these days. Posted by: Marcus Gravey at February 11, 2022 10:15 PM (kNgCR) 540

So, as here, the tech recommendation was don't use Apple to access AOS website.
___ Oh well, I do. But I added some safeguards, courtesy of some assistance from my linux-using hubby. Posted by: SMH at God's grace at February 11, 2022 11:47 PM (ZoeSo) 542
434 I used to like to play with different distros. I've used CrunchBang and Bodhi, plus a few others. I've at least done a live disk of Arch.
---- I can remember the first Linux I did, early 1990s, with floppies downloaded off the fledgling Internet one-by-one. It was Slackware, meant to replace the expensive and cumbersome SCO Xenix. All for our campus attempt at email. It worked. Posted by: Ciampino at February 11, 2022 11:53 PM (qfLjt) 543

Former Detroit Police Chief and gubernatorial candidate James Craig on Friday announced his support for the Canadian trucker protest, infuriating Michigan Democrats. https://tinyurl.com/25bac5ea Posted by: SMH at God's grace at February 11, 2022 11:56 PM (ZoeSo) 545
"I stand with the truckers. I support all working people who are standing up for personal freedom. What we are seeing is a tremendous lack of leadership from Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, President Joe Biden and Gov. Gretchen Whitmer," Craig said in a statement.
"Instead of focusing on the protestors and demonizing the truckers, these career politicians should be focused on how their irresponsible pandemic response is hurting our economies." Posted by: SMH at God's grace at February 11, 2022 11:58 PM (ZoeSo) 546
This is the same police chief who pretty much said, "Not today" when the 2020 riots were going on all over the country, right?

509 I think the shell of SCO got bought by some ip trolls that ended up suing everyone and creating a mess in the courts for a while. Maybe later 90's or early Shrub years?
