Oh I'm sorry -- you just caught me being adorable.

Poor dog has a wait ahead of him.

Sound on -- card fall.

Let's not ask questions about why there's a film crew accompanying this shepherd, let's just enjoy it.

Every girl's crazy 'bout a well-groomed ape.

Sleepy mouse.

Dogs will make a game out of anything.

Ferrets playing in an old air hose. Kinda cute.

Horse and goat playing seesaw. Cross-species bonding.

Inman: The agony of de balls.

Jane is not Tarzan.

Carjacking attempt: Unsuccessful.

It moved.

"There's no way a wolverine would make a good pet!" some say.

But then this wolverine says, Wrong. (With sound.)

Okay he's a handful and he'd be a chewing hazard. Still, he looks like a ball of fun.

Cat brings you a fish.

And literally slap it at you.

Um, thanks?

A few more miniature sets here.

Sound on for this very excited and kinda klutzy baby emu.

He's actually a pretty entertaining guy, most of his videos aren't about getting bit or stung, he just shows animals in their native habitat a lot like Steve Irwin. Get kids interested in animals, that sort of thing.

179 Have had several funny encounters with wild turkeys over the years where I live.

One tom fell in love with our car and trotted back and forth from the side to the hood gobbling and preening himself. Kept us there for about 5-10 minutes.

Another time, was walking my dog who as a catahoula felt that all things were game to her. Anyway, a turkey saw us and took off flying. Zoomed over our heads at about ten feet altitude on its way to a tall pine. Felt like a B52 going over our heads. Dog was NOT eager to go after turkeys in the field anymore after that.

187 It's really cool if you can see a huge flock of birds murmurate which is when a large flock flies in unison and appears as a "wave" in the sky.

We see them sporadically here in the Bluegrass. Pretty awesome. Very hard to photograph.

I read that the British in WWII brought in Lloyds of London industrial insurance actuaries to tell their Special Operations Executive how to sabotage industrial plants in occupied Europe. The endless bringing up of communism of the USSR and perhaps of China is one of hard men killing their opposition through a violent revolution that took several years in one case and decades in another. They did that in each country because the existing leaders were feckless, corrupt, cruel and incompetent themselves. Those elites were replaced by and large by the few educated individuals at the top as the only ones that could manage such things.

What we are seeing here is Gramscism which is a different approach.

Gramsci posits the problem with Marx is that the successful revolutions did not occur where Marx predicted it--in the most advanced industrial nations. So, Gramsci basically posited a takeover of society by infiltration into key institutions was the key. Aka, the Long March through Institutions.

If you're going to blow Windows 7 away completely, it'll work great.

If you want them side by side it's still possible, but a little more difficult.

I'd suggest trying Mint in a Virtual Machine, but a Windows 7 machine may not have the horsepower to run VM's smoothly.

451 Someone mentioned Seinfeld movie references. One of my pet peeves actually occurred in the 90's when all the "comedy" leaders started confusing mere reference for satire.

There is nothing wrong with reference. Reference can be really fun. But it is NOT satire.

Inversion isn't satire, either, although it is if done well. A three-year-old can do fairly high quality "reference", and they can probably do inversion too. Satire requires thought and insight.

If I had to recommend a linux distro it would go like this...

1. Zorin for general desktop users.
2. Manjaro desktop/workstation.
3. Ubuntu for server applications.
4. Raspbian on the Pi, get a lot of Pi's.

I have VM's of pretty much every distro so this generally what I have found to be the best use cases.

466 What we are seeing here is Gramscism which is a different approach.
Posted by: whig at February 11, 2022 09:09 PM (Iq9dF)

It's the one that worked in the West, where people were not benighted peasants. Gramsci and Mussolini both understood that the West would need something different than Leninism. Obviously they disagreed rather strongly on the form the Revolution should take, just agreeing that the vanguard tactics couldn't work.

The West German Communists adopted it, and taught it to the Americans, who turned it into an art and a science.

The only comfort I derive from that is that it's a bitch-made, dickless version of Marxism for soft Western pussies, and may make it easier to dispense with when the time comes.

When you are done with the install you get a command line system. From there if you want a GUI you install it (probably X11) plus a window manager, you want a web browser you install it, office suite you install it, and so on. It is as much or as little as you want. Just recently they released again a guided installer but I've not tried it. I just follow the manual. You must do a lot of reading and research before you start to know what you want to install (boot loaders, video drivers, sound, printers, etc).

It took be an entire day to get the damn thing functional to the point where I could actually do anything. "Oh, you want to type something? Need to d/l a driver for that. Mouse? Driver. Speakers? Driver." To this day I can still type "sudo" in a matter of microseconds.

And after all that bullshittery and faffing about... I played Team Fortress on Steam twice, and then never booted Ubuntu again.

506 Late to the party, but I just have to share this:

I made my wife watch the Will Ferrel clip in the previous thread, because I loved it so much, and she said:

"'Jive turkey'? I wonder what that means.

And she fiddled with her phone and started to look it up.

She's 48 years old. I don't understand how she can be completely unfamiliar with this phrase. I'm about 2 cocktails in, but I don't think I've imagined this.

507 I have the Seinfeld DVD titled "I'm Telling You for the Last Time". Or something like that. I haven't watched it but I own it. It was a stand up special he did after Seinfeld. He was retiring all his previous material. He said he would do it one last time. You have to give him credit for the confidence. To be fair, he was the biggest name in comedy at that time. You can YT his spat with Larry King, it is pretty funny.

Yes and no. Apple makes your choices for you and if you do not like it, tough. Best to also not buy only Apple made extensions and hardware and not any saying that it is 'compatible'.

So, yes, it does 'work' but you have to stay within the boundaries of hardware and software that Apple chooses or you get problems.

Yeah, that was a weird situation. A Linux company bought what was left of SCO from Novell, change their name to SCO, and then sued IBM for copying Unix into Linux.

Lot of legal wrangling, but they finally lost after over a decade of whining.

Depends--Safari, for example, has had issues for years (here for example) with websites and Apple refused to open their system to competitors.

So, as here, the tech recommendation was don't use Apple to access AOS website.

I've had one issued from work and it is ok but have add bits of trouble here and there with hardware compatibility and exchanging files from it with Windows users.

After two false starts I finally managed to get reasonably good working with VIM. Now I'll never go back. So superior to using a mouse.

On Windows 10 PowerShell is not bad. Much better than Command but still no where near as good as a Linux terminal.

Unfortunately, we no longer see the type of software qualification used for Apollo and later the Space Shuttle. Basically, Chris Kraft's mantra was don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good. Ironically, I was reading Hatcher's Book of the Garand about M1 rifle development and came across the same attitude.

533 GUI's are sometimes useful for a quick repetitive task. Command line is useful if you REALLY have to get into the details on certain configurations.

If I worked all the time as a sys admin, I would probably use the command line instead of a GUI for system commands. As a programmer, I would generally use GUI interfaces than command line editors though.
