Good morning, kids. Wednesday and I just realized something that, frankly, I'm embarrassed I didn't see right away. Before I get ahead of myself, the set up is that it looks like Cuomo hench-hag Kathy Hochul and bloated Illinois blivit J.B. Sitzpritzker, along with Oregon's Kate Brown-shirt as well as Pelosi relative Newsom are the latest blue state tyrants to relent (to one degree or another) on mask mandates. It's obviously a huge political albatross among the ever-expanding lei-wreath of dead and rotting sea bird carcasses around the necks of the Democrat Party as midterm election season starts heating up.

The memo has gone out: It is time for every cultural institution, politician, and corporate media outlet to pivot on [Chinese] COVID-19. They must reverse their Covidstan policies, advocate a return to normal, and make excuses for the missteps of the health bureaucracy. The speed and shamelessness with which the narrative shift happened are breathtaking, and it can only mean one thing. The internal polling for Democrats in the midterms is beyond dismal, and areas assumed to be safely in the "D" column are at risk. We mustn't let them get away with the rewrite of history they are attempting. . .
. . . Connecticut, New Jersey, Delaware, California, and Oregon have set timelines to end their indoor mask mandates. Some are ending school mask mandates as well. Just last week, Virginia school districts were fighting Gov. Glenn Youngkin's executive order allowing parents to choose whether or not their children wear masks. Meanwhile, images of Hochul and Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams going maskless in photo ops with masked school children went viral. . .
. . . Not all that long ago, [Mengele fan girl Leana] Wen suggested making the lives of the unvaccinated painful and requiring N-95 masks for children. She has also said vaccines protect well against omicron infection, which is not true. The vaccinated are getting infected in large numbers. Wen credits her change of heart to the wide availability of vaccines. Vaccines have been widely available to people in high-risk groups for over a year.
She also pretends that information on "one-way masking" is new. "Even if other people around you are not wearing masks, if you wear a high-quality mask, that also protects you, the wearer, too." This revelation is not new information. However, if you had suggested it before this week, Twitter and Facebook may have banned you. Wen saying that government mandates should end and that individuals should determine how to protect themselves best is such an abrupt reversal that she should have whiplash. . .
. . . the Covidstan authoritarians are trying to convince you something has changed. The only word for this is lying. Nothing substantial has changed. Democrats, the health bureaucracy, and the corporate media cannot be allowed to retcon the [Chinese] COVID response over the last two years. We are only beginning to understand the damage to our children and society. The wreckage must be laid directly at their feet.

So, here's my big lightbulb moment which does not make me the sage of the ages either. As we rub our hands with glee over the fact that the mask mandates seem to be going the way of the dodo, how much you want to bet that yet another variant of General Tso's Sickness will magically descend upon the land and all those mandates reappear? One can argue they'll happen just before the elections in key swing districts where ballot harvesting, mail-in voting etc. are in place, or just afterwards if miraculously (wink-wink) the Dems hold on to their majority in one or both chambers as well as in local elections.

Honestly, aside from being sadistically drunk on power for the sake of having it and wielding it, what possible other benefit does prolonging this insanity have? I don't give them credit for being intelligent, but I do credit them for being smart and devious enough to manipulate and grift themselves into permanent elective office. Is there really an actual plan to use this as a means to collapse society, seize absolute power, ???, profit! Or are these fiends just winging it? They are absolutely correct in their assessment that the people are fed up with this and their rank hypocrisy that's figuratively and quite literally in your face when they go maskless yet impose masks on you.

Seriously, I am sick to fucking death of these tyrants and you can multiply my anger by orders of magnitude at our alleged fellow citizens who act as their enforcers and vote for them over and over again. And tyrants they are. It may be cold up there in the great white north but our Canadian brothers and sisters have had it up to here (several parallels above 49 figuratively speaking) with what Justin "Castreau" and his minions have done. The premier of Alberta has told the bastard son of Fidel to take his vaccine mandate and shove it. Psaki-Psircling back to tyrants and Castro, vis a vis, Justin, the estimable Lloyd Billingsley gives us a timely recap of his pedigree:

Earlier in his brilliant career, Justin was fond of performing in blackface, singing "The Banana Boat Song," a hit for Harry Belafonte. Trudeau now considers this racist but the revelation prompted no resignation. Prime Minister Trudeau, "tried to reorient Canada away from the great democratic alliance." As Frum also notes, hours after the Communist Coup against Solidarity in Poland, Pierre Trudeau said: "If martial law is a way to avoid civil war and Soviet intervention, then I cannot say it is all bad," adding, "Hopefully the military regime will be able to keep Solidarity from excessive demands. . .
. . .[Fidel] Castro persecuted homosexuals and his regime held large numbers of black political prisoners. Even so, Justin Trudeau called him a "remarkable leader," who "made significant improvements to the education and healthcare of his island nation." And as Trudeau fils said in 2013, "There's a level of admiration I actually have for China. Their basic dictatorship is actually allowing them to turn their economy around on a dime. . ."
. . . Pierre Trudeau was not a fan of Poland's Solidarity movement, but he did support the martial law imposed by Gen. Wojciech Jaruzelski, correctly identified by Caspar Weinberger as a Soviet general in a Polish uniform. This is what happens when a crypto-Communist zombie becomes prime minister of Canada.
When embattled Canadians take to the streets in a peaceful protest, Justin Trudeau smears them with lies. Ottawa police are now threatening to arrest those bringing fuel and other supplies to the protesting truckers, which is not a crime. This is what happens when Pierre Trudeau's son becomes prime minister of Canada.

All things considered, and as bad as things are here, it could be a hell of a lot worse, as it is in Austria, Australia and in Canada. At least there, people are taking mass action. And although it's a really good sign that the government of Alberta is standing with the truckers in no uncertain terms, at this point, it's a Mexican standoff in Canada. For sure, the junta in DC is paying attention. What lesson it draws, in terms of compromise and reconciliation, or pressing the jackboot down even harder on our throat, is TBD. My gut tells me, it's the latter.

31 I went to pick up my wife at he airport yesterday and much to my surprise there is a slight demasking. Around 10% did not have masks or were pulling them down and security wasn't doing anything about it. Last summer it was mask hell and if your mask slipped you would be told to put it on as soon as you were spotted. Gives me hope this insanity really will be coming to an end.

I want to take issue with your characterization of the dropping of the various mandates as a retroactive continuity (retcon) action.

It isn't. Because to do so would require explaining why the mandates are being removed. They haven't done that. They change the filters. Instead of any face-diaper, its now the magical N95 which despite the new narrative doesn't prevent the spread of a respiratory virus any better than pantyhose. They still pretend that through the power of the police state they can control disease.

Nature can be controlled by ladling on more brutality, cruelty and misery This is their faith whether its disease, the economy, human nature or climate.

I disassembled it and ran the plastics (key caps, top cover) through the dishwasher and went after the rest with the vacuum cleaner, Windex, isopropyl alcohol, paper towels and Q-Tips. Just finished the bitch and a half that is reassembly (it's a buckling-spring keyboard and so if you don't get key cap alignment right, the key feels dead and doesn't strike properly).

He did it for himself, trust me. I used to work in PC repair at the university and we had certain professors on the "lost cause" list for keyboards and mice. These were people whose peripherals were so consistently revolting that when we made a service call, we'd make sure we had our nitrile gloves and spare peripherals. When their stuff came into the shop, we instructed them to send *just* the PC and to *not* send any peripherals (other profs, we asked for everything).

Outside of the Revolting Five, though, we would clean any marginally dirty parts that came through the shop. We had to touch that stuff all day, so it was just a quality-of-life thing for us.

They did that in Portland some years ago, IIRC. Three bins: recycling (big), trash (small), compost (small). Composting is a form of recycling and it's a cool thing to do, but forcing residents of an entire city to separate it all and creating fairly significant sanitation problems that *must* be contained and managed is asinine. The point of the sanitation department is to keep the city clean and help keep it free of disease. Mandatory composting and food waste sequestration is absolutely bonkers. Talk about making the job harder.

When I grew up out in the sticks, everyone paid for each bag of garbage collected, so we all sorted our waste to save money. Combustibles were put in to the burn barrel l, because of septic tanks the food waste was put into compost or left for the omnivores and the circle-of-life, and the glass and metals were compacted and left at the end of the driveway for pickup.

I didn't think it was the end of civilization.

And being made with "recycled materials" could mean industrial remainders that are trucked back to the front of the line and dumped back through the process (quite common) or post-consumer. "Post-consumer content" is what most people think of when they think "recycled."

Most of the time that there's a government law requiring those items to be recycled and used at the threat of imprisonment and/or death by guns (which is what all laws are). There is required recycled content, same as the requirement that a strict percentage of all new vehicles be electric. People don't want them and wouldn't buy them otherwise (even California can't break 4% annual sales). Manufacturers are selling them because the government is literally pointing a gun at them.

Look up the history of recycling newspapers if you're interested. The entire recycling scam is an absurd make-work program that came about because some photographers took pictures of a barge that couldn't find a place to park one day.

There is not a single self-sustaining all-items recycling facility anywhere in the United States. They all lose money.

Either they are extremely tough and picky, or something is funny with the quiz. Since I don't know what the "correct" answers are, I am puzzled. But I applied to 2 other editing jobs, part-time and contract, while I was on Indeed. I hold out little hope. The one I applied for on 1/6 has never replied to me at all.

I've got my annual performance evaluation today, on Chinese video of course with my boss in the very next room. It's odd: I'd like to get good marks, naturally -- but if he has complaints, fuggit, I plan to be out of here in a few months anyway. In fact I may call Personnel today and ask what the first steps are toward retirement, how much of my vacation time I will get, etc.

My municipality does "all items" which means "#1-#3 plastic, paper, metal." I strongly suspects it goes through mechanical separation the send the metal off for recycling and the rest off to the landfill.

It wouldn't really be that hard to accomplish. The illegal aliens will tell you the truth, because they know that laws are not enforced here anymore (at least, not laws against them). There used to be many YouTube videos of people going to the border and asking people coming across (not at official checkpoints, but at places where it's technically illegal to cross) why they were coming here. They'd happily and freely admit that they were coming in illegally, but then insist it's okay because "Joe Biden invited us."

Even so, if I were on that politician's legal team, I'd ask the Fox station why they are only requiring "proof" of a political ad's content from people they disagree with. Then I'd sue (because we all know this is blatant content discrimination).

He apparently did the "hoopin" (taking drugs rectally) for recreational purposes.

There was trial testimony about his practice of swallowing his drug stash when he was arrested (so he wouldn't be charged for drug dealing). He'd done it during a prior arrest, and had ended up being hospitalized for the overdose. He did it again on the day of his death. He was seen swallowing stuff after he was placed in the back of the patrol car, and the cops found several pills and pill portions with Floyd's saliva on them on the floor of the back of the patrol car.

But Floyd's cause of death, according to the original autopsy report (before the ME was threatened and revised it) was not the drugs he'd ingested. Floyd died of heart failure, because he had severe coronary artery disease (95% blockage) and had been fighting with cops (and over-exerting his heart) just before he died. The pathologists compared it to "shovel deaths" -- when middle-aged men with diseased hearts suddenly drop while shoveling snow.

The GOPe will do whatever they can to keep Trump off the ballot. Because of this, Trump needs to invest in lawfare right now; both to get him on the ballot if the GOP decides to utilize the DNC superdelegate system to keep him off, or to get him registered in all 50 states if they succeed. That said, there is a significant part of the GOP rank-and-file that hates hates hates Trump. I see it in CT, and I'd think they would know better, but they don't. It's mystifying.

It's an obvious, but fascinating logical problem. The "rules" of nature that we know are all condition of *This* universe. We can understand them because we are creatures of *this* universe. Whatever came before was *not* of this universe; therefore it would not have operated according to this rules, and it would not have been anything we can logically understand, since it would be outside of our comprehension.

Most cosmologists now accept that *this* universe is simply a 4 dimensional bubble in the greater multi-dimensional reality from which it sprang.

Same here - at the New York Academy of Sciences back when I was in HS; probably in 1980. He tried to address the ex nihilo problem back then, if I recall. It wasn't successful to my 16 year old mind at the time, but it was interesting.

I watched some legal panel discussing this at the time. They said "hoopin" was the street term for rectally taking drugs. There are probably other ways used to describe it as well.

The day of his death, when the cops asked Floyd if he was on something, he responded that he'd "been hoopin'" earlier that day. The cops took that to mean rectally inserting drugs, however Floyd's legal team later insisted that Floyd had simply been telling the cops that he'd been playing basketball earlier. LOL

Cops: "hey dude, are you on something? You're acting kinda weird."
Floyd: "Officers, I was playing basketball earlier today, that's why I'm behaving so strangely now!"

Makes totes sense!

He was in there for several minutes, but he started kicking and thrashing around on the seat and he ended up injuring himself (his hand, IIRC), so they took him out (and called an ambulance, for the injury). That's when Floyd begged the cops to let him lie on the ground, which they did.

The ME said the drugs were not the primary cause of his death, but that the relatively small amount of amphetamine that Floyd had ingested in the minutes before he died had not helped matters, and probably contributed to the heart failure.

thanks for those details ... still sounds to me like the (recently ingested) drugs kicked in to start the thrashing ... after already being in an irrational state. In any case, Floyd was a druggie criminal that killed himself ... by ingesting drugs and resisting arrest.

The knee on the back gave the perfect photo op, and that was all they needed.

For one thing the constitution says the VP only gets a vote when the Senate is equally divided.

But if you don't think that clinches the argument, imagine it's Jan 6th, 2024. Trump has 283 electoral votes. But he only beat the Democratic candidate Stacy Abrams by 50,000 votes in Georgia, and she is claiming she really won.

Do you want Kamala Harris to have the authority to toss Georgia's 16 electoral votes, even though the GOP controls the House and the Senate?
