The Feminization Of America

Sean Penn is mostly an idiot, and when he isn't being stupid, he amuses himself by making shitty movies and smacking Madonna around. And let us not forget his vapid yet angry political pontifications, his full-throated support for brutal communist dictators like Chavez and Castro, and a host of other reflexively anti-American, hard-left stances.

But shockingly, he recently said something that made a lot of sense, and was perceptive, although I think that was largely by accident.

The Independent

But when it comes to how he views masculinity, he is old school. He recently told one newspaper: “I am in the club that believes that men in American culture have become wildly feminised… I don’t think that [in order] to be fair to women, we should become them.”
What did he mean by those comments? “I think that men have, in my view, become quite feminised,” he reiterates. “I have these very strong women in my life who do not take masculinity as a sign of oppression toward them. There are a lot of, I think, cowardly genes that lead to people surrendering their jeans and putting on a skirt.”

What's that you say? "It's also fantastically hypocritical." Well, yes, because masculinity is a trait that does not include beating up your wife. Call me old fashioned, but I think most masculine men would agree.

But his words resonated with me, in particular this weekend, as I watched the storm of the century dump an incredible five inches of snow on my part of the Northeast. The hysteria over the last several days was vomit-inducing, as the media tried (and...sadly...succeeded) to whip up fear of a damned winter storm. Yes. It snows quite often during the winter, and up until several years ago it was just one of those things. But now the fear of everything must encompass normal weather. Run for the stores! Buy up all the milk and bread and eggs! Shelter in place! Do not drive unnecessarily! Bundle up...you may freeze to death in the sub 20s temperatures!

Traditional roles for men and women are being systematically degraded, to the point at which the historical role for a man...to care for the physical safety and comfort of his family...has been upended, and the current expectation is for him passively to accept whatever may happen and simply wait for help. And mostly to be afraid; but damn! Those capris look great!

Penn doesn't understand that true masculinity has nothing to do with gender politics or America's stance on Armenian independence or Universal Basic Income, and has everything to do with things that he consciously rejects; the traditional roles for men and women that society has created over many thousands of years.

Smacking Madonna around (it wasn't because of her shitty music) or advocating for same-sex marriage and the concurrent degradation of traditional roles isn't supporting masculinity. It is supporting the destruction of those traditions that support the clear, obvious, unambiguous differences between men and women.

And even worse, his hatred of all things of the West, including the glory of Western philosophy and American Exceptionalism, may seem to him to be some sort of new-age response to the imagined ills of the West, but in reality he simply supports non-Western mores and morals, like the Muslim world's rejection of equality of men and women. Yeah, it's too complicated for his pea brain, so let's just go with his excellent point that America is being feminized, and let the grown-ups do the rest of the thinking about it.

The fact is that American men are being feminized by their teachers, by the people who produce advertising, by their politicians who are too cowardly and craven to push back against the post-modern nonsense that sex/gender is a social construct, and a society that has prioritized pleasure and entertainment at the expense of those traditional masculine attributes like self-reliance, caring for those who cannot care for themselves, and a dozen other things that are mocked and minimized by the enemies of tradition, and of America.

And sometimes the boys would split off and play "army" or "cops and robbers" and we girls would strap on our roller skates and listen to Barry Manilow and skate to our hearts content.

Parents didn't meddle. And we were all happy doing our thing. Sometimes together, sometimes segregated.

Kids don't get to have freedom like that anymore. They don't get to choose their friends or their activities. They don't get to play "make believe," because if a boy wants to play the damsel in distress or the girl wants to be the sharpshooter, then, well, they must be gender confused and only the adults can save them.

26 The thing is, we live in a time when men's and women's roles CAN be confused. It is rare when we face circumstances where men's strengths and traditional roles are needed, even considered. The blizzard is one such example, any time a big disaster hits. But usually we can glide through life, delegating all our responsibilities and roles as men to others (hiring police, teachers, builders, etc).

Meanwhile, due to the extremely light burden of modern culture, women can pretend to take on men's roles because they don't have to lift 200 pounds, they can lift 10 pounds of coffee and pretend they are being strong.

37 Very astute analysis, CBD. The feminization of men has been a hobby horse for me for about twenty years, and even I have been blown away by how this has manifested with Covid. I have lost tremendous respect for many men, including a lifelong friend, because of their disproportionate and unhinged terror. When we are honest with ourselves, this along with women being expected to enter the workplace, even if they can afford not to do so, has wrought tremendous destruction on our society.

This is beyond politics, so kudos to Penn, who likely has been put on a Me Too list if those are still a thing. It probably is a blind pig/acorn phenomenon, but it is still positive.

Part of the church's job is to equip warriors for a very hostile world. That means studying Scripture and understanding it. It means exegesis and apologetics. They stay with the message and spend little if any time answering critics, or seeking conflict with them. Rather, they offer positive steps and encouragement for men looking to be assertive, dominant, and desirable to women.

Think about it, there's not much left that hasn't been either replaced by a vapid slogan or turned into a vapid slogan. And what does corpo marketing want most? In other words, this sort of thing needs to be left up to the individuals and families involved because trying to replace one set of ads with a different set of ads is only effective until someone else feels like replacing the ads. That's how we got into this mess in the first place.

Well, it already is. Look at the changing definition of racism. Only whites can be racists and no one can be racist for disparaging whites. The new formulation is no different than the excuses for hating Jews (this explicitly.)

One thing that always struck me: the racism against Jews is subtly different than that displayed against Blacks or other races. Jews were hated, not because they were seen as inferior, but because they were seen as the hidden puppet masters. Secretly TOO strong and powerful. Most of what we think of racism is disparagement and denigration of a group because they are inferior in some way (perceived.) Anti-semitism is almost always the opposite in flavor and tone.

No, I'd say you're wrong there. I think it is still tribalism. Jews often segregated in communities (either on their own in marriage and cultural norms or by dictate of the Christian areas they were in.) This maintained the separation between them and other parts of the community. It allowed people to see the differences and heightened them instead of allowing people to think of them as part of the same group.

She'd ask why I couldn't just find something else to do, and didn't I know not everything is about politics? It is, because they've made it that way. 366 Well, it's not just the teachers but that's about where it started. Go to any school even these days but back a while ago you'd only women teaching up until maybe junior high (7,8,9 for you middleschoolers).

And their priority was things being peaceful and organized so the girls wouldn't be upset. And boys at that age are NOT peaceful and NOT organized (unless it's cowboys and indians shoot em up).

So first off the got punished and then they got shown what behavior would pay off. But because dad was still in the home back then the boys would still get a whiff of testoserone at home enough to tide them over until they started producing it on their own. But then mom started getting divorced or not even marrying so guys became surrounded by females and all singing the same tune. The only guys who're still guys these days are either the stone studs or the wild eyed loners. The guys in between just gave up. And our commercials show it, our books show it, our entire culture has now become anti male and we can now see what is wrong but many still won't admit it.
