America's Back, Baby!

Ice Cream Joey's best friend Vlad accepted his invitation for a Minor Incursion clambake, looks like.

Screenshot (1330).png

Ukraine, which by the way poured millions into the pockets of Hunter Biden and who knows how much for "The Big Guy," is attacking Biden for his newest show of weakness.

Earlier, he invited a minor incursion.

Now, he orders an evacuation, engaging in Preventative Deconfliction -- "deconfliction" being the coordination of opposed forces to reduce the risk of accidents or incidents -- which all but clears the way for a minor incursion.

I'm not arguing we should go to war on behalf of a country that meddled in the 2016 election far more than Russia did -- on behalf of the Democrats, of course, which is why it's not a scandal -- but didn't the Deep State crucify Trump for supposedly not doing his all to resist Putin and protect Ukraine?

The Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs early Monday morning accused the United States of "excessive caution" for ordering family members of Kyiv Embassy staff to leave the country, as Russia gets closer to invading Ukraine by the day.

"We have taken note of @StateDept's decision re departure of family members of @USEmbassyKyiv staff," Ukraine spokesman Oleg Nikolenko tweeted. "While we respect right of foreign nations to ensure safety & security of their diplomatic missions, we believe such a step to be a premature one & an instance of excessive caution."

The United Kingdom is also bringing home "Some Embassy staff and dependents" due to the "growing threat from Russia."

In a subsequent tweet, Nikolenko highlighted that the European Union is leaving its diplomatic staff and their families in Ukraine.

So Europe is more courageous on Ukraine than Ice Cream Joey.

NeverTrump, do you feel your blustery, bellicose Neocon foreign policy has been restored?

Meanwhile, Bill Kristol's calling, of course, for the censorship of anyone who opposes the neocon foreign policy agenda. Which was also his position during Iraq, of course.

Screenshot (1336).png

To my shame, I joined in the general "anyone who questions Iraq is just a coward and quisling" chorus. I won't be doing that in the future.

But Bill Kristol is a very old (and fat) dog, and is not learning any new tricks.

Meanwhile, Kurt Schlichter's ing his Fantasy Ukraine Abraham Lincoln Brigade.

Hey, if Billy Three-Bills (three hundred pounds, you know) is going to break out the "anyone who opposes war with Russia is a Russian agent" slur, I think I am justified in noting that almost all of these Chairborne Rangers are chickenhawks who had Better Things To Do during ever period of American conflict.

Context:

23 Quick thing to note about Ukraine, the guys that meddled would've been part of the administration that Obama put in power, which is no longer in power in Ukraine. Not sure how fair it is to really blame the Ukranians for that.
Posted by: Red Turban Someguy

I didn't know that. That does change my emotional feeling about this, but not enough to actually want to get very involved.

Thrawn agrees with my remorse for the put-downs about anyone doubting the war,
but adds:

Still doesn't mean Code Pinko and their ilk were right. Will they do the whole "No War for Borscht and Biden's Business Partners!" protests if this goes hot? Probably not.

Right! Agreed. There are/were noxious people on the antiwar left, people who really are reflexively anti-American.

And a lot of Democrats are against any Republican-led war for the most odious of political reasons, and can't wait to support the next Holy Democrat Foreign Crusade for Freedom and Diversity.

But not everyone who doubts the wisdom of a war, or is generally cool about war, is anti-American, of course.

Posted by: Elric Blade at January 24, 2022 12:24 PM (iFTx/)

65 Ukraine's Army is 550,000. It has the supposed support of the EU, and US. We DO have 150 US troops on the ground.... 150 Spec Forces doing Training, but reporters say they will leave if Russia Invades.

Ukraine has two breakaway provinces, in the South West portion of the country, that Russia supports. With the US and EU support, Ukraine wants to reoccupy those provinces, which is why the media is talking about 'territorial integrity and how important borders are.

Putin has seen that move, and upped his normal 75,000 troops near that border, to 127,000. Most of these troops are Conscripts serving out their mandatory ONE YEAR term of service.

This, IMO, is a move by the deep State, to create a small War, so Biden can look tough.

That is not going to happen.

I think the administration knows what is going to happen, they are just trying to figure out how to make the most domestic political hay out of it.

The region of the Ukraine in dispute is mostly ethnic Russian and they are supportive of becoming a part of Russia. Yeah, I know, Sudentenland and all that, but I don't really think Putin is on a world domination tour.

Anyway, I think the administration is pretty sure that the Russians will go there by whatever method. I think their angle will be "see how dangerous the Russians are and TrumpRussia! and you need to get rid of the filibuster so we can make the rules so that no way can TrumpRussia be President of these United States!"

Yep, that happened a few years ago when the northeast decided that they no longer wanted natural gas to power their grid - until they needed the power due to the lack of wind and the lack of above freezing temperatures.

Homes get first dibs for natural gas heating, then the power plants. Because of other disruptions, low supply and The Jones Act, LNG had to be imported from Russia to keep the northeast states from freezing in the dark.

They're trying to pull a reversal on COVID so that he can claim victory there, since the mandates and vaccine rollouts have been a disaster. I bet that the SOTU is driving a lot of the calculations in the White House right now regarding how much to stand up to the Russians. It wouldn't surprise me if the "minor incursion" slip up was because they've told Putin behind the scenes that the US will keep the Ukrainians in check if the Russians show restraint. The Russians occupy a few minor towns along the border for a few weeks, the US then negotiations their withdrawal in exchange for some concessions, and Biden gets to show that he's "tough" on Putin.

Russia has a historic defensive plan which puts small buffer states, controlled by or allied to Russia, between them and a possible aggressor. They call the is the 'Near Abroad'. The Warsaw Pact was a prime example of that 'plan', and the Southern 'stans' are another example today. Russia could directly control those areas, BUT, then foreign armies could sit directly on the border of Russia.

When Napoleon invaded Russia in 1812, he had created the Duchy of Warsaw on the Russian border, and used that as the staging area for his invations.

Hitler and Stalin took Poland (destroying the Near Abroad concept), and Hitler then later invaded Russia, through that area.

Russia really does not like have Powerful nations, or Alliances, sitting on its borders... and truthfully? Can't blame them... it would be like Mexico having Chinese troops south of the Rio Grande.

I think NATO wanted to expand right to Russia's doorstep, to keep lots of pressure on them with the threat of an unwinnable war. NATO policy, however, has been to only admit nations with stable governments and borders. This only encouraged Russian to destabilize Ukraine, Georgia, and the Balkans to prevent further expansion.

I'd imagine, just like Kosovo and Bosnia (unresolved for 20+ years), Putin would be quite happy to have a supportive puppet government in Ukraine, but never actually absorb it back into Russia, to keep a buffer between him and NATO countries.

Generally this is more of a "nearby great powers do something about it" then "someone in the other hemisphere do something about it" concern historically though. While Russia has something of a first mover advantage, I suspect absent US intervention Europe will return to the old model over time.

I don't disagree but we have enacted more military actions against other countries than Russia. We can't just be against 'aggression'. There has to be something significant in our interest and also determine if that aggression is justified.

I think "unabated" is where there is a difference of opinion. People like Tucker, would probably not be quick to invade and nation build. Economic sanctions and other reprisals would probably be things he favored. I think it is easy, looking back, to say the middle east wars were an utter waste. Having done that exercise, it tends to make you think war is not the answer. However, I have a hard time thinking sanctions would have had much of an effect on Hitler.

This shit is hard. Period. Its not for dummies like Biden.

But that excludes any middle class people with families who could simply not survive on a congresscritter's income.

Leftist terrorists burned down churches because it came out that there were mass graves at these residence schools where Canadian officials separated "First Nations" kids from their parents and sent the kids to schools where they were taught English, punished for speaking their native language and all that.

Well, I found out this weekend that the "mass graves" was all bullshit. Some people came in with ground penetrating radar and identified what could possibly be a bunch of gravesites.

The only bones found so far are a baby tooth and a rib. The PhD who ran the GPR program explicitly said they don't know if these are graves. Additionally, even if they are graves, they might not be "mass graves." They could be kids who died of Tuberculosis or something.

To be clear, I am not defending any of what Canada's gov't did. I'm just saying the "mass graves" claim is based on a possible interpretation of GPR data and the only bones actually unearthed are a baby tooth and a rib.

As the curtains have been slowly falling away, revealing the depth of corruption, grift, and bloody-handed globalism at work, with America's shambling corpse as their standard-bearer, how is it that some people still don't get it?

What lesson is needed, exactly, to prove to the perpetual war hawks that they have been misled and used by evil men and women advancing their personal interests with the blood of America's sons and daughters?

America, as we thought we knew it, has not existed for many long years, if indeed it ever did. Faith in America is a metaphor for faith in its institutions - (and we've all seen how that's turned out) and faith in its people - half of whom are degenerates who can't even speak out against men entering the girls' bathroom with the devil's own fucking grin.

Top five percent of households, not earners, and three-quarters of those households are dual income.

In broader terms, $174k congress critters are looking at four times the median individual US income, and more or less exactly on the top 5% threshold for individuals.

Plus, they can easily add another 15% ($26k) in supplemental income from easily gamed assets like rental properties.

Sure, it doesn't look like much in terms of DC, NYC, LA, or SF money, but $174k annual salary does mean one is comfortably living near the long tail of the bell curve.

621 AOC was a bartender/waitress before being elected to congress. That $175k congressional salary, with luxurious bennies, was a big step up for her. That's definitely not the case with most of those crooked grifters. Of course, most of them don't have the benefit of a crooked Indian techie masterminding/bankrolling their race behind the scenes, like AOC did.

I think that the States should BUY Congressional Housing in DC. Let the office holder live there for their term... kinda like the White House.

Would help a LOT of the corruption IMO, and be a fairly small cost longterm.

Billy K doesn't even have decent credentials in his chosen profession. He's never written a book by himself, not once. His sparse bibliography consists of being the editor of a few collections of essays by others, a reprint anthology or two of his magazine articles, and a single book co-written with some other dooshbag (who undoubtedly did all the hard work).

Even Jonah G supposedly wrote a book by himself (although mostly cribbed from other works).

Posted by: Joe XiDen - I miss Delta Variant at January 24, 2022 01:19 PM (OalnH)

Germany has navy ships and subs, most of which are tied up to a pier as they are not seaworthy, much less battle ready.

Ditto their Air Force. Most of their Fighters cannot even take off. Greece has more Leopard Tanks than Germany. Their soldiers usually show up late and leave early from military excercises, because they cannot afford to pay them the Overtime Pay. Belgium, Netherlands, and the like are not much better.

647 Germany does have a 65 ship Navy, including 11 frigates and 3 corvettes, 3 subs and the rest replenishment ships and other aux vessels.

So they have enough shit to coordinate that they need a Navy Secretary. Although in fairness, that Navy Secretary might just be a sexy admin assistant named Inga who can type 100 words a minute.

652 I too was wrong about Iraq. My error was that I had not yet learned that the kind of pluralism necessary for a peaceful democracy to thrive is impossible in the Islamic world. I believed that giving the Islamic world a leg up into a pluralist democracy was vital to American national security interests because it would spare us permanent aggression from the sort of hopeless, suicidal, murdering losers that Islam culture is so good at producing.

Is there a compelling "national security interests" case for the US intervening in the Ukraine? "Advocating for democracy" isn't enough unless it is a means to protect American interests.

Posted by: Anotheranon at January 24, 2022 02:19 PM (8Ze5j)

653 The problem with Iraq was not in going in and removing Hussein.
The problem was in installing a local government immediate after and thinking it would be a Western style democratic republic and not another Middle Eastern strongman.
The same with Afghanistan.
The war was not problem, it was the peace.

As for the evacuation order, given Biden's record, it is probably too late.
Fortunately, Putin has no need for hostages, and will gladly help trapped foreign nationals to score points with supporters and apologists.
Well, provided the survive the conflict and panic.

Posted by: Sam at January 24, 2022 02:35 PM (ohyxL)

654 My only regret in supporting the Iraq war is that I didn't foresee how the Democrats would first corrupt the effort, then try to expand it into something totally different than the original mission, finally to switch sides and become rabidly opposed to it attacking every aspect of it once they had fucked it up beyond all recognition.

This is why now, I will be against all wars by this government, including a war of self-defense. Not until the Democrat party is utterly eliminated and all democrat operatives (ticks) removed from government-paid positions, will this government be worthy of a single drop of a free citizen's blood.
