My grandparents never painted over it. They left both her and my aunt's rooms exactly as they left them. When grandma passed away ('96) they sold the house and I am guessing the painting only exists in our memory. That and the elm tree my grandpa managed to keep barely alive for 40 years. They did at least take the tree out per Mom.
It's why I have always resisted the desire when I have been there or up in Muncie (my Mammaw and Pappaw's house is also one of my strongest visual memories.) I don't want to see what they look like now.

The 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments are the "Reconstruction Amendments". They were drafted by the Radical Republicans of the 1860's in order to overturn Dred Scott and codify the battlefield results of the recently ended Civil War. The Southern States were required to ratify them before they were allowed to rejoin the Union and end Occupation.

The 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments are the "Reconstruction Amendments". They were drafted by the Radical Republicans of the 1860's in order to overturn Dred Scott and codify the battlefield results of the recently ended Civil War. The Southern States were required to ratify them before they were allowed to rejoin the Union and end Occupation.

Yeah, for a couple of years she was pulling crap like that routinely. She had a very screwed up start to childhood, not by my Mrs. btw - M isn't her daughter, it's actually her niece. Huge, long story. Anyway, I think she was just trying to f with me. I was the first adult man in the role of father figure in her life and who really knows what was going through her mind. I did make sure I was never alone with her in the house though.

You have the Bill of Rights applied to the states. In theory. But the states disregard that anyways in practice.
I can look at the behemoth of the federal government, I see the commerce clause in the EPA etc. Many of its other tentacles in the States are a matter of spending money. Expanding the federal government's taxing power clearly had more impact. Adherence to voting elements of that set of amendments didn't fully materialize for around 100 years.

I called Nutflix and they did nothing. I cancelled the credit card but the only bad charges were. Nutflix. I called them about it and they denied I ever had an account with them. I dunno. We tend to almost dehumanize him in a lot of ways and assume everything would have been better if he had lived- because he died. The things he authorized during the war (or his government did) can and should be looked at sideways. It's kind of like JFK for the Left. They assume he would have been onboard for everything they have done for the past 60 years, but by his action (aside from stupid shit) he may well not have been onboard. It's impossible to say.
History is a strange thing because you start to realize that TRULY Powerful AND Good men only come along once every thousand years or so.

Our citizens born in Mexico, can they draft those children into their army? ... The arriving Irish were drafted into the Federal Army in 1863 as they stepped off the boat. That's precedent. But the Courts have, over the years held (simplified version, of course) that if the local police can arrest you for any crime, then you are "subject to the jurisdiction of".

That's the one. Friendly bartender, good beer, but the pub pie was as limp and tasteless as food can be without it being literally made of cardboard. And the 'dipping sauce' was as close to being a cold cup of egg yolk as it could be.

Yes, giraffes are kosher, and you just reminded me that was a subject of conversation on the web years ago - probably in a blog comment-section. Apparently some people claim giraffes are not kosher because the rabbi can't figure out where on the neck to cut when killing them. An actual high-ranking rabbi (as I recall) said 'cut wherever's convenient: they're kosher'. If they're not eaten much it's because they're way too big for most parties. Not too mention it would take a hell of a spit to put one over the fire and roast it whole.
