2 Good Morning Morons. Today is Sunday, January 16, 2022. On this day in 1919 Nebraska became the 36th state to approve the Eighteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution. With the necessary three-quarters of the states approving the amendment, Prohibition is constitutionally mandated in the United States one year later. This was the worst law ever passed by congress and the real people hated it.

Up a little earlier than I intended and having a bit of toast with coffee over a Death Valley Days episode with Robert Taylor. The crowd was massive. But in an own goal, there were 2 sections of seating. One fairly close to the podium in front, then an open area where vehicles were parked, and another massive seating area that stretched what trump was saying "as far as the eye can see". Except the cameras could not see it. The blinding lights in the back were behind the main crowd, but washed out the cameras so the viewers at home could not see it. I am sure all of the usual suspects will be pointing out the small crowd in front and dunk on Trumps claim of crowd size. They should have set a camera to specifically show the crowd, but the people who set up his events are stupid. Or they are smart, but untrustworthy and set it up like that on purpose.

We have a possible verdict of "guilty but mentally ill" here. That was enacted after the doctors decided that a nutcase (who'd done time in the psych hospital for beating a retarded boy to death) was all better now and started giving him weekend passes.

Then he murdered a bunch of teenagers who were camping. Oops.

If you're found "guilty but mentally ill" you go to the psych hospital until the doctors decide that you're "cured". Then you go to prison.

103 Prohibition might have been really bad law, but it should be pointed out it was (mostly) passed as an actual Amendment to the constitution. Politicians realized they had to do shit like that "legally", or at least the appearance of it.

Fast forward today, and they have outlawed certain kinds of lightbulbs without benefit of such Amendment process.

I don't smoke Pot, but how is it there is no federal Amendment? Sure states are "legalizing" it, or more correctly they aren't enforcing state law. What gives?

Here in PA, in the last election, I mailed in the ballot. I received email notification not to go to the polls because my ballot had been recorded.

To my eyes, most of the vote theft in this state was done by computer manipulation of results after the polls closed. Trump 'lost' 15,000 votes in 8 minutes time. I know of only one way that happens.

**

Most of it was done through the manipulation of the voting rules outside of the required legislative process. No one dares say it, but every single one of those votes is illegal because of it and should all be tossed. If the changes didn't happen legislatively, there is no other outcome.

It's why they're working so hard to put those same voting rules in place nationwide as we speak. THAT was where the illegal votes were cast and how. They all looked legal because reasons, but they weren't.

I don't disagree that the 17th earns a mark as one of the very worst, but how is it worse than the 16th?

The 17th removes the individuals States as a sovereign entities with representation - but it didn't blow up the big state vs small state paradigm.

OTOH, the 16th was transformation in the sense that it was an amendment that empowered the FedGov to claim title to your earnings, ending slavery for some in the 13th, but enslaving all Producers in the 16th. The Constitution becomes a positive document that says what the FedGov CAN do to you, whereas formerly it was a negative document stating what it CAN'T do to you.

Last week I heard a talk show host explaining that the reason there was such a jump in votes cast was due to the easy accessibility of mail in ballots, which caused typically lazy voters who would not cast a vote to do so.

So I took a peek at I believe Washington state, which has had ALL voting by mail for a number of elections. My assumption was that states that already wee voting by mail in prior elections would already have a high 'lazy voter' turnout in previous elections, and no major rise in turnout for 2020.

Nah..still a statistically significant surge in votes cast. So, so much for that idea.

It's like the IRS, every year about this time they catch some single 'high profile' celebrity tax cheat in order to scare the populace. How many agents does it take to catch that one person?

I'm not anti-tax, nor do I condone cheating. But when the left wants 60,000 more IRS agents it's not to go after high dollar celebrities, nor to go after people on the dole. It's an attack on the middle class that might have a side gig or some hobby money. It's class warfare, nothing but.

I lay odds it has nothing to do with cheating. You don't just hire 60k qualified accountants, the schools just aren't cranking out anything near competent for those roles. Furthermore, it takes time to find the square footage and negotiate the long term leases, then the problem of equipping in the midst of what I foresee as an only worsening supply-chain problem - that is it will follow what all Communist economies do and end up with Venezuela.

They are planning something evil, and I'm pretty sure whatever it is will be immune to any change in regime. Both parties are in on it.

231 >>So I took a peek at I believe Washington state, which has had ALL voting by mail for a number of elections. My assumption was that states that already wee voting by mail in prior elections would already have a high 'lazy voter' turnout in previous elections, and no major rise in turnout for 2020.

The issue isn't mail in voting. The issue is mass mail in voting of ballots that weren't specifically requested, obtained with a voter ID and tracked. This was done in 2020 and justified because of the China virus.

Millions of unsolicited ballots were sent out in 2020 without any sort of audit trail. People often got multiple ballots. And then illegal ballot harvesting took place in many locations including Georgia and unsupervised drop boxes were stuffed, often in the middle of the night with ballots from who knows where.

The confusion here is in the conflation of votes and ballots. No one counts votes. Only ballots are counted. There is no enforced requirement that votes and ballots are correlated.

Its a classic Motte and Bailey. They get you to agree on votes - something that doesn't matter in elections; then they pass rules that make it easier to inject fraudulent ballots which are the primary means to determining election results.

296 Apologize for starting a slap fight, but the basic truth is that the Founders wanted Amendments to to be hard because the framed the first 10 around natural rights and basic liberty. Their logic is solid when you consider the voting amendments in total - votes given after the war, to females, to 18year olds, direct election of the Senate and votes taken, again the war. But because the process requires simplification to succeed, the "problem" of voting is never considered in whole. So you get things like a push to further lower the voting age or the nonsense of noncitizens voting in elections. What started an attempt to right some groups being disenfranchised in each case has had unintended consequence.

Nothing prevents children or illegal aliens, or for that matter internet voting (meaning the entire planet) in federal elections. Any of the States can make up whatever rules they want for deciding Electors for the presidential sweepstakes.

The amendments stopped people at the door from denying former slaves, women and children from having to pay a tax and then vote.

Before any of those amendments, they could - with the exception of the door keepers. Remove the door keepers and even the livestock can vote.

372 > Truro, Nova Scotia hires four crossbow hunters to kill up to 20 deer inside the town limits.

There's an island in the Ohio River near the city of Parkersburg, West Virginia called Blennerhassett Island that has had deer hunts on it. At one time, years ago there were hundreds of them on the island. They swim out to the island when the water is low, then get stuck and just hang out and breed.

There was a lottery for the hunters. Thousands applied for the hunt but I believe only about a dozen were on the island at one time. Bow only.

377 Here is what Trucker say about the 80,000 shortage:

High average age of current drivers, which leads to a high number of retirements; Women making up only 7% of all drivers, well below their representation in the total workforce; Inability of some would-be and current drivers to pass a drug test, a problem exacerbated by an increasing number of states legalizing marijuana (a substance still banned federally); The federally mandated minimum age of 21 to drive commercially across state lines poses a significant challenge to recruiting new drivers; The pandemic caused some drivers to leave the industry, plus truck driver training schools trained far fewer drivers than normal in 2020;
Lifestyle issues, notably time away from home, especially in the longer-haul market; Infrastructure and other issues, like a lack of truck parking spots, which causes drivers to stop driving earlier than they need to so they can get a spot for the night, and congestion which limits drivers ability to safely and efficiently make deliveries;

So Austin imposed some of that foolishness but exempted fast food and SNAP/WIC/Welfare recipients. They could have all of free plastic bags they want. Yet any survey would show that prior to the bag ban, it was the low-income neighborhoods that had the biggest plastic bag litter problem.

The local TV station interviewed some environmentalist type who was whining about seeing plastic bags deep in the woods on his nature hikes. The only ones deep in the woods are drug addicts and environmental types, so who was leaving the trash out there?

I am confused, what is the most evil/damaging? Indestructible plastic bags that kills sea life, paper bags made from dead, murdered trees or filthy re-usable ones that must be washed with energy wasting hot water and detergents?

440 As much as people joke about the dry heat thing though, it's way more tolerable than hot and humid.

Disposable face masks.

444 Reading 'Next Door' messages. Some are about lost cats and dogs and looking for a doctor, etc. Then there are ones by a women (yes women) about seeing a shopper at the local super market without a mask and demanding the manager do something about that.
Not sure what happened after that.

445 Female ministers don't bother me. It is what the menfolk say that is s a concern. I have tried to leave my church of three decades for a year now. I spoke to people I trusted but to no avail. I finally left my words for the pastor. If they still claim me, it is Stockholm Syndrome. I legit could not have been more clear

This is why we can't have nice things anymore. Women must live in the soft cocoon of irrational totalitarianism.

Yes - it's an easy win, and it's so annoying at groceries right now. Arlington and Alexandria put it in, too, so there's no escaping it.

We should petition him to end it for an easy win (I think it's needs a state law, though, so he can't executive order it, b/c I think a law was passed in the last session allowing it)...

450 Female ministers don't bother me. It is what the menfolk say that is s a concern.

OK, so you expect God to bless clear disobedience.

And if you are offended at God's word and feel free to correct God on his mistakes, it would seem completely consistent to be concerned as to what "menfolk" say.

Because you can't be wrong, but the Almighty Creator of the Universe is.

I am sorry that you are having problems and they won't listen. That sounds hard. Have you submitted a letter of cancelling of church membership?

Posted by: FenelonSpoke at January 16, 2022 09:13 AM (k49Sx)

453 Yep. The PA Turnpike is even worse. The last time I was on I79 in the western part of the state, it was full of trucks too.

Posted by: Puddleglum at January 16, 2022 08:49 AM (sAmhv)

The last time I drove the PA Turnpike was in 1972. That road was in a sorry state then.

456 450 you read too much into what I say. I didn't say any church needs to accept female ministers. I am not in charge of various denominations. But I would rather listen to a female speaking The Gospel than a man speaking woke Leftism.

Posted by: Quint at January 16, 2022 09:15 AM (HG3Fb)

457 Please consider knocking it off, Reuben. You've made your point. You probably won't convince other people either.

Posted by: FenelonSpoke at January 16, 2022 09:15 AM (k49Sx)

458 Boy, this has been a fun end of the thread. I'm soooo glad people need to take time to try to convince me how sinful and evil and wrong I am in one little church in NJ instead of discussing the massive problems our country has. I'm inclined to think that is anyone comes to Christ through the work of a woman minister, the Lord may be pleased, but what do I know?

Posted by: FenelonSpoke at January 16, 2022 09:18 AM (k49Sx)

460 462 not a specific letter. I have tried to make it as painless as possible for them. It will always be painful for me. The pastor has a year or two with the church, I have 35

If you think about it, an ankle is really kind of like a neck.

For your foot.

465 Thanks Fen. I will do that if they don't act after this. This has been very painful and it wasn't rash. In fact it was the opposite. I put it if for far too long.
