6 Morning, folken!

'Tis Friday, and except for the annoyance of a staff meeting this morning, it may well be a decent day. I'm up a little earlier than I planned, but not much; Chekov the Ailing Codger Cat is moving around, albeit slowly, and purring at me. No major plans are on the horizon, so I can enjoy the 3-day weekend. Colder temps coming on Sunday, too.

My employer is closed on Monday. I'm hoping to run some errands I normally can't on a weekday like gassing up the Buick at a local service station that has ethanol-free gas but is not open on Saturdays. The big car gets better mileage on it. His E0 is .40 cheaper than the Exxon near me that also has the stuff.

Aside from that, I'll work out tomorrow morning before Sunday's cold front blows in, hit the grocery, then try to relax with some YooToob movies in the afternoon. 'Tain't an exciting life, but 'tis mine own.

Chekov is holding his own, as long as you define "own" as "sleeping a lot, lounging on the floor on his blanket, eating enthusiastically, and moving only when he must." In fact it's time to feed him ahead of my morning shower and my own breakfast.

37 The healthcare mandate is infuriating. Kavanaugh and roberts based their opinion on the fact that cms mandates handwashing and flu vaccines and nobody complains. If SCotUS had courage and integrity they would have forced the Feds to look in the mirror on violating the Nuremburg Code of 47.

You do not get to use "work arounds" to force the populace to "agree" to be experimented on.

Changing the approval process on the fly is "working around."

Posted by: sven at January 14, 2022 05:27 AM (Lzpvj)

42 Serious question: What is "liberal" about compelling employees to either be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or to be tested weekly? I see what is conservative about the opposite.

Posted by: m at January 14, 2022 05:27 AM (a7mcp)

I'm not in the medical profession and I'm probably more infuriated at their hatred of individual liberty demonstrated in this split ruling.

It seems that everyone is so simple minded that things like experimental and Does It Even Work doesn't factor in. I get it, they reject Imago Dei and clearly have bought into our new national ethos of All For the State, Nothing Against the State, Nothing Outside the State.

No offense, but I really hate it when people abuse that Solomon ruling. First of all, there is no wisdom in the aggregate of the SCOTUS.

Solomon knew that the real mother would rather lose custody of her child to see it murdered and divided. Solomon's ruling was not only three dimensional chess, but he also provided a universal teaching moment that almost survived thousands of years and every culture.

Posted by: Reuben Hick at January 14, 2022 05:34 AM (iMXIi)

49 They seem to think this is liberal:

Justices Stephen Breyer, Sonia Sotomayor, and Elena Kagan penned a rare joint dissent in which they complained that employees, "more than any others," have "little control, and therefore little capacity to mitigate risk" from the spread of COVID-19.

All For the State, Nothing Against the State, Nothing Outside the State, indeed.

I also have a desktop model, I forget which, that my office has declared "obsolete" and allowed me to take home. I haven't tried to hook it up yet. Should be interesting, as what they consider "obsolete" just goes by time since purchase, not software, etc. This computer could still be more than serviceable.

51 42 Posted by: m at January 14, 2022 05:27 AM (a7mcp)

What was "liberal" about a bunch of self-identified hippies at EPA causing a mine waste disaster on purpose after being warned by the state EPA and former mine owner that they were fucking up?

The answer is the same for both, the near deification of the infallibility of Federal power. The "liberals" are really super statists that worship power for the sake of power with a fervor that Torquemada would have been jealous of for passion for Christ.

Posted by: sven at January 14, 2022 05:38 AM (Lzpvj)

52 From the " they really said this on the radio"
Dept. Dallas has more R candidates running for office than ever. People are tired of the failed liberal policy.

Posted by: Ben Had at January 14, 2022 05:38 AM (8GpZ5)

53 The blatant refusal to hold this power unaccountable is the kink for the "liberals", no one was punished for the EPA antics defiantly. Fauci expects to be feted for doing 5-20 trillion in damage to the global economy with a high death rate etc etc. Making the landmark ruling they should have would have required the superstatists at the court to look at the beast in the mirror and step back. That is where the hysterics of their wild "fact creation" at arguments came from. If the worst plague EVAH EVAH is in fact not that bad then their shit is not only unjustified but is in fact a crime against humanity which it was.

You don't grab "unlimited power" over a .03% lethality outbreak.

I hear that a lot in my industry, but what is really happening is that they are saying "Gee, my expensive, cutting edge computer seems stay more current than this discount plastic thing." Then they trot out and get a new MacBook because they want the new cutting edge Apple Silicon processor.

I usually buy the equally expensive Dell Precision, and it seems to get no less obsolete than the equivalent hardware MacBook. I use the Dell far more than the Apple because I can still expand and maintain the Dell.

Since they were only ruling on the injunction, all they had to do was determine that there were serious issues involved. You can't untake the jab. Therefore, the injunction remains until this can be determined.

The Burger and Warren courts even though evil were hardly cowardly, they created "rights" wholecloth to make their landmark rulings. It could have been made plain in upholding these injunctions forcefully that Dementia Joe et al should drop this like a hot potato so the "real landmark" ruling would not get made.

Instead they split the difference, created no precedent and allowed the administration to continue playing "Marco Polo" with the Nuremburg Code which is pretty much settled law globally and inspired dozens of country's understandings about "uh human experimentation against will bad m'kay."

The current court is better than another Burger or Warren court, but it sucks.

To that point Burger was a lot like Judas Roberts in the whole "I am not the guiding force, I am the chief administrator protecting the court" bullshit THAT is what led to Roe.

Sovereign immunity was not part of the founding for the most part, and was introduced to a degree in 67 and 83. Essentially it was brought to bear because of the out of control assertions of "civil rights" and has mutated wildly out of control to the point that the EPA can knowingly risk a superfund event and no one is to blame.

The judicial topcover for the notion that "the state can do no wrong" is shameful and a relatively recent phenomena.

George Wallace was a Democrat. So they are saying we shouldn't leave voting up to Democrats to decide and control? Those terms are acceptable.

I also find it interesting that they had to conjure up the name of a dead Democrat racist (BIRM) because they couldn't find any current examples of the stereotype they are pushing.

And they also want us to forget that the same Fed that is causing double digit inflation, murdering tens of thousands of people with a Communist mandated vax, gave us an epic botched withdrawal from Afghanistan, is stirring war in all of the previously pacified opponents, is actively creating perpetual energy shortages that will impoverish hundreds of millions of people and kill countless others.

Yeah, trust them with an election, especially after they fraudulently stole the previous one.

130 One of the things that is being lost with the constantly changing benchmarks being used on modern computers, and Microsoft's increasingly bloated, and slower with every edition, operating system, is just how fast today's machines actually are.

I resurrected an early benchmark, Dhryston, recompiled it with the 64 bit gcc, and ran it under a current Ubuntu version of Linux. Yes, I know of all the problems with that Benchmark, thanks, so I don't need a lecture about it.

My machine is a moderately fast iCore 7 9700 with 32 gigs of DDR 4 3000 which I use for video editing with DaVinci Resolve under Windows 10. Base operating frequency is 3.6 Ghz.

For perspective, an original IBM PC scored 257 Dhrystons per second. The more modern desktop machine scored 76,923,023 Dhrystons per second, fast enough that I had to set the loop count to 50,000,000 just to start getting a reading. This is about 300,000 times as fast as the original PC.

Akshully . . . the local TV fishwrap says there is a chance of "flurries" some ways north of the lake on Sunday morning. It won't stick, they say, as the ground is too warm. Still, the word "flurries" rarely ever gets used around here.

We had noticeable snow on an early December morning about 12 years ago. I was at work. People were wandering outside to stare at it, and I did my Christopher Reeve-as-Superman impression: "Have no fear, citizens! This often happens on planet Earth!" We had some on Christmas Day in '04 as well. And it snowed and froze 3 days before Xmas in '89. The stuff stayed on the ground for 3 days, because the temp never rose above freezing. All the people who didn't wrap their pipes the *last* time this happened, well, they had troubles.

Its amazing to see that we have descended into the stage of unaccountability and the adoption of depraved indifference as an integral part of corporate and government policy.

Zero accountability. Just as in the Ghislaine Maxwell trial. She allegedly set up the kids to be sexually abused, but all of the abusers of these children, not only aren't charged, they aren't even named.

The 1989 snowfall? Yes, it took me 2 hours to go 12 mi. from uptown to Algiers. Mostly because people here do not understand the rules for driving in snow: "Slow down, leave extra following distance, and don't change directions abruptly." They kept getting stuck on the gentle slope of the ramp leading to the big bridge.

I'd never driven in snow at that point, yet the rules seemed obvious to me.
