The Saturday Night Joke

Years ago, a young Navy Pilot was injured while ejecting from his A-4 Skyhawk due to engine failure during a cat shot from the carrier, but due to the heroics of rescue helicopter crew and the ship's hospital staff, the only permanent injury was the loss of one ear.

Since he wasn't physically impaired, he remained on flight status and eventually became an Admiral.

However, during his career he was always sensitive about his appearance.

One day the Admiral was interviewing two Navy Master Chiefs and a Marine Sergeant Major for his personal staff.

The first Master Chief was a Surface Navy type and it was a great interview. At the end of the interview the Admiral asked him,

"Do you notice anything different about me?" The Master Chief answered, "Why, yes, Admiral. I couldn't help but notice that you are missing your starboard ear, so I don't know whether this impacts your hearing on that side."

The Admiral got very angry at this lack of tact and threw him out of his office.

The next candidate, an Aviation Master Chief, when asked this same question, answered, "Well yes, Sir, you seem to be short one ear." The Admiral threw him out as well.

The third interview was with the Marine Sergeant Major. He was articulate, extremely sharp, and seemed to know more than the two Master Chiefs put together. The Admiral wanted this guy, but went ahead with the same question. "Do you notice anything different about me?"

To his surprise, the Sergeant Major said, "Yes Sir. You wear contact lenses."

The Admiral was impressed and thought to himself, what an incredibly tactful Marine. "And how would you know that?" the Admiral asked.

The Sergeant Major replied: "Well, sir, it's pretty hard to wear glasses with only one fuckin' ear.

My guess is that Gender Studies grads won't be qualified to do this. Not a job I want.

A man has become a professional queuer and earns his money by standing in line for rich people who don't want to - and he's making a killing doing it.

Freddie Beckitt charges £20 an hour to stand in line for other people, and he says it comes naturally to him as he's a Londoner, and has queueing "down to a fine art".

On a good day, the 31-year-old can earn up to £160, but he must have the patience of a saint as that means he's stood in a line, barely moving, for a full eight hours.

Freddie, from Fulham, said that his best jobs are queueing for tickets to highly popular events, such as performances at the Apollo, for customers who are money-rich and time-poor.

When I was a young boy I was taught never to strike a girl. As I grew older and started to follow sports I was taught always take the victory. It looks like Russians were never taught these lessons.

An inter-gender mixed martial arts fight involving a Russian porn star was stopped on Friday in wild scenes after a fan stormed the octagon.

The bout was fought between a blogger, named in reports as Sasha Mamaha, and porn star, named as Alexander Pistoletov, as part of a card put on by the Epic Fighting Championship.

Pistoletov is also known in Russia for being a singer, while Mamaha has a social media following.

Friday night's card also included a two-on-two all female contest as well as a fight including another porn star in the form of Elena Berkova, who also ran for president in 2018.

The Saturday Night ONT should be fun. And I'll be honest with you I debated whether or not I should run the following story.

PEEP THIS: GERMAN MAN SPENDS SMALL FORTUNE FOR A SLIGHTLY BIGGER BULGE

A German man’s small problem has forced him to spend big. And now, inch by inch, the issue is being erectified, err, rectified.

Tired of being ridiculed by lovers, Murat K, 36, invested more than $4,000 to lengthen his tiny wee wee.

If you are disappointed in me. Well, you certainly won't be the first and definitely not the last.

As The Saturday Night ONT should be fun and full of items not related to certain current events I thought this was just a little too good to pass up. Looks like someone had been to the Iowa Hawkeyes visiting locker room when Hayden Frey was coach.

JANUARY 12--A group of senior citizens unknowingly consumed pot brownies that were brought to a community center card game by a 73-year-old South Dakota woman who was unaware that her son had prepared the baked goods with THC butter, cops report.

According to a probable cause affidavit, police dispatchers last Tuesday received several calls reporting “possible poisonings” of individuals who were “at the Tabor Community Center earlier for a card game.” Tabor (pop. 423) is a town about 85 miles southwest of Sioux Falls.

“An investigation into the incident lead me to believe that the patients were all under the influence of THC from a batch of brownies that were brought to the Community Center by Irene Koranda,” reported Deputy Sheriff Joel Neuman.

A couple who had been at the weekly Tuesday night card game told police that “after several people had eaten the brownies including themselves,” they learned that Koranda’s son “had made the brownies and had been in Colorado over the past weekend and brought back products with marijuana.”

Once I had a leaf blower, but I was young (not even 29!) and put regular corn-ized gas in it. Now I don't have very many leafy trees and the wind blows everything away anyway. Any leaves that don't escape will become compost (well, if I figure out where to put bins and build them).

Ms G says, "Why, are you sick? You shoulda stayed home."

Me, I might have said something different, and you'd-a heard me in the produce section across the store. And I'd have finished with laughter.

81 A man has become a professional queuer and earns his money by standing in line for rich people who don't want to - and he's making a killing doing it.

Ancient Washington DC tradition.

You have all these obscure Federal agencies making new regulations that move billions of dollars around, and who are required to have public hearings, frequently in rooms not big enough to accommodate all the people who want to attend.

So, big-time DC lawyers and such hire professional line-standers to grab a place in line so that the Important People can come in in the last minute and take their spot.

This tradition may have waned a bit with online streaming of meetings, but I suspect not very much - the Big Important People want to be able to show their clients that they are physically in the room when the bureaucrats are making decisions.

I'll never forget a story my mom told me several years ago when working for the state Medicaid coordination office (no, half the time she did know what they did either): We had a HUGE blizzard inbound and the temperature was just right for it to be an ice storm before it turned to snow.

So, in prepping for the storm, the IA NG called my mom's office and asked for a list of people, specifically children, that were on ventilators at home. The NG called these homes and asked: Do you have a generator? If not, can you get to a hospital that has one? If you can't do that, do you need us to come? We will come get you, no matter what.

I believe they saved at least 5 children in that storm and everyone else was safe.

Next to his base way downriver, where he and his 5-man crew actually did waterskiing behind their gunboat with its twin-50s on the sides and a 30 cal front and rear, one marine sniper on board, anyhow, their base is next to a small village, and Gerry meets a girl. He waves to her from the boat most mornings when they go out.

Pooky's family flipped out when he began really showing symptoms on Wednesday and demanded that he get tested. My mom pointed out, "What would you do differently?" We'd all been at the same party Sunday afternoon, and he hasn't really left the house all week, so if no one but him showed symptoms this week, what's the point of going through the hassle of getting tested? The quick tests aren't that reliable anyway, plus there's a shortage of them and the monoclonal antibodies in the area, so what's the point? That shut up Pooky's family for a little while at least.

309 We're being forecast 8-12 inches for tomorrow (good thing I'm not German, or it would cost me betweeen 32k-48k). No biggie. People panic so much over snow the past ten or twelve years. I guess I understand why so many modern folks panic over a blizzard, because the best way to deal with a blizzard is "don't be dumb." That counts a lot of folks out right off jump.

Best ones I remember were 1978 (when sled riding was the height of adventure), and January 1994. For the '94 storm, I was living off-campus in a trailer park just out of town. We got about 30 inches of snow, then the temps went to 20 below and stayed there for a while. Schools were closed, even the campus delayed the start of the spring semester. My roommate and I huddled in our rectangular metal bunker for about ten days, and fought off the winter with true pioneer spirit - we drank a tank car full of booze, smoked a silo full of pot, and played Nintendo Pro Wrestling until the controllers wore out.

312 I can see where a lesson in Martini crafting is needed.

First, London Dry Gin. No exceptions. None of that "infused" shit. Second, a very small splash of Dry Vermouth, measured in drops. Over ice in a shaker, lots of ice, shake very well and strain into a proper Martini glass with an olive. Spanish, green, with or without Pimento. Drink cold. Repeat.

Do this enough times and you'll enjoy it. Or pass out. Win-Win.

317 292 There's something very weird about a Democrat politician who is acting decent, sane, and nice.

Remember, Bill Clinton and others suppressed the crazies from the Democratic Party after the Carter-Mondale-Dukakis fiascos, and ran as moderates.

Gabbard may be thinking of doing the same thing after Biden augers in. Her problem is that the Democratic base is now so nuts that it's hard to see how a reasonable person could get nominated.
Posted by: The ARC of History! at January 15, 2022 11:02 PM (I2/tG)

There is no way that a Democratic moderate should be elected to national office, especially Congress or Senate. Not to say they aren't rational or useful, but as long as the Far Left runs leadership, they only need moderates as fodder to enable them to govern. As long as moderates don't work to stymie the Pelosis and Schumers, they are enabling them. The electorate gets fooled every few years into electing mods, but that's when you get O'Care and (their hope) BBB.

Win-Win.

I think that the usual mistake is being afraid to make the martini too wet. Vermouth should be sparing, but a bit of trial and error will get the right amount for the vodka you are using.

421 Tulsi is an interesting person...

Her father is something of a cultural right winger. She was never conservative on the economic side of things, but she was pretty moderate socially, until it almost got her kicked out of the party so she got with the program.

My guess is she's pretty far left on the economic side, though not bought and paid for (at least yet!) like her former ally Bernie.

Perhaps she did her partially red pilled as well by the theft of the 2016 Dem primary? Must be something to see the guy you are pulling for, the supposed moral voice of the party, take a modest pay out from the corporatist wing of the party to let them steal the election.

But...I wouldn't vote for her, and I hope we never see her in higher office, unless it is some solid blue seat somewhere.

Here are some pieces of Gerry's stories. The record biz in Chicago in the 70s. Backstage at the Aragon, smoking dope with Elton John. Doing something for a made guy from somewhere south of Cicero. A good bud getting murdered by a goombah. A suggestion of prison time. Sturgis, nude women driving their UltraGlides up to the bar for a drink.

One big reason Orwell's 1984 was so compelling was that there has always been a strong strain of authoritarian, even totalitarian, government in the UK, going back for 1000 years. They have lapsed into it time and again. That's why the US, at it's founding, made such a hard break from the British system. And clearly, all of the political descendants of that system have very little resistance to that disease.

527 @506: "One big reason Orwell's 1984 was so compelling was that there has always been a strong strain of authoritarian, even totalitarian, government in the UK, going back for 1000 years."

Video surveillence in the UK was a huge issue during the '90s. Every local police jurisdiction was setting up CCTV networks, and there was very little public debate about basic logistical questions like where to put the cameras, including strictly residential streets that might not need 24/7 surveillance. Also, whether or not all such videos should be instantly accessible all the way up the national intelligence ladder.

It took something like 9/11 for NYC and DC to finally give up pretenses and begin playing the same game in earnest.

I think it was the goths. And why? Because high walls of masonry don't offer much resistance to a force that tends to topple them by applying outward pressure at the top. And a pitched roof built without proper trusses does exactly that. So the answer was to buttress the walls. At first, buttresses were solid, and looked like short transverse walls to the main wall. And then some bright boy realized that the pressure of the buttress really need to be applied fairly high on the wall, and that support lower down was quite unnecessary. So they designed flying buttresses, which are basically just one limb of an arch. So they prop the wall up, and add a touch of class, too.

Talk about shrink-flation. I bought a pack of hot dogs a few days ago, getting a hankering for some. Tonight, I was fixing the second to last one, and noticed the bun to wiener ratio was odd.

Turns out there were only 5 hot dogs in the pack, not the usual 6.

And it's starting to sleet. We're likely going to get a good bit of freezing rain, so the power will likely go out, most likely tomorrow morning.

They didn't "go" to the party. They are houseguests at the home where the party was held, and nearly everyone present (myself included) has been socializing with them since before they fell ill, so chances are most of us had already been exposed.

580 I think the Bourne Identity was the first time I saw how surveilled London was. I expected the agents to hit the streets and beat up some stoolies, or meet with their confidential informants, or run down leads. Instead, everyone headed straight to the camera auditorium and started scanning facial I'd software. Very surprised at the time that that was real. Now even my factory has the entire plant floor on camera. Not all at once, since we swivel some cameras to cover multiple areas. Every year we add more cameras and don't remove any old ones.

You'll never find an accurate number, but London itself has between 500k and 1m cameras these days, and no one really knows how many are tied into the official surveillance grid. Major underground stops in London have several hundreds of cameras each. It's kinda mind boggling once you start digging down into the numbers.

You cannot listen to Trout Mask Replica all the way through. It will make your ears bleed. Beefheart only makes sense when you understand that he rejects the usual conventions of music and he's using the tools of music to communicate whatever it is he's trying to communicate. Hendrix played a guitar and people said, "I didn't know a guitar could DO that." Beefheart, much less successfully, was after the same thing with all the instruments.

I was shocked to find Trout Mask Replica on the entertainment system of Emirates Airlines. The caption they put on it reads: "His challenging 1969 masterpiece sums up the enigma of the late Don Vliet. Produced by his childhood friend Frank Zappa, it remains an uncompromising, brutal, and imaginative work. While it sounds like nothing else, the energy and raw musical talent here influenced legions of artists around him."

626 624 When my family moved to NoVa in 1973, you couldn't get liquor in restaurants. Absurdity goes in both directions.

And now you can have your daughter raped in school by a repeat offending tranny and get called a racist to boot.

But that lack of liquor in restaurants was bad.

627 622 Ford won Virginia against Carter. I always took that as a point of pride. Every other Southern state went with the peanut farmer. Btw, I agree I am saying NOVA was different. It was a Hell of a lot better and I have tons of examples. This was the land of Stan Parris. It was mostly moderate Repubs, military, and even the Dems saluted the flag.

At some point, there was a livable medium. Probably 1986 when I returned from freshman year and D.C., 12 miles away, grandfathered me in for beer and wine. :->

A 1968 law allowed Virginia restaurants to serve alcohol.

Posted by: ZOD at January 16, 2022 02:28 AM (x8kT3)

630 Virginia was better than Texas on many gun rights, at least on paper. Virginia had open carry first because they never banned open carry. They were also well ahead of Texas on CCW. They enacted ""For Issue" years earlier, and with far fewer restrictions. The last ten years have been bad but the radicals have only been able to do so much. We still have open carry and CCW A bunch of other bs needs to hit the ash heap.

I'm just repeating what my parents said, which is not necessarily inconsistent with what you posted, given that alcohol includes beer and wine. So liquor could be prohibited while allowing beer and wine, thus making both of our statements true.

Liquor wasn't prohibited in Va. restaurants after 1968.

633 Ah yes, the "rise of extremism".
Posted by: Where are my ping pong balls? at January 16, 2022 01:59 AM (m3XFr)

What in hell is wrong with extremism? I'm extremely against murder. I'm extremely against kids having their genitalia cut off. I'm extremely against the government telling me I need to take a shot that could kill me.

Extreme what?

Post 9/11, we were told those terrorists were extremist Islamists. But then, I never heard one Muslim come out and condemn the attacks, did I? Not extremists, just murderous assholes. I'm extremely against murderous assholes.

True. There's a gulf between what people believe to be true of Virginia based on the last 10-15 years of political history (or what they want to believe about 'then' because it provides consistency to 'now'), and what has been the actual historical case.

635 @600... it costs very little compared to what you make and they'll hire a corpse if it can pass a piss test. We're talking companies like Swift, who treat their drivers like shit, but once you put up with them for a few months for the experience, you can move on to one of many thousands of good local companies.

So, understanding that there's regional variance, what is a competitive annual salary for truckers? I'd guess most trucking is short-haul anymore as intermodalism has probably cut deeply into long-haul business...?

Sell the house in Kalifornia first. Move to Reno, get the CDL and buy a house, and still have cash in your pocket. You get to stop paying CA taxes too.

642 I won't get into this argument because I need the facts to say something. And if I get them wrong I happily admit it as we are in the same side. I lov to learn

I know states in the East have crazy booze laws. PA is mostly absurd and I will tell you about it if you are bored. I do know the VA abc is state run and t
They have their own SWAT team. They also decide who gets a liquor license and who does not. I know a recent Repub was elected as governor explicitly to privatize booze sales in VA. He failed, as they always do. A VA state rep just put in a bill to drive the same thing. Unless Yougkin wants to spend his political capital on this issue, my guess is it will go nowhere.

The VA ABC is one of the most powerful organizations in the state. It might be the most powerful.

646 Competetive to what, aerospace engineering? I doubt that.

Intermodalism yes cut into long haul trucking but that's a 40 year old story anymore. Short haulers get hourly wages if driving company trucks, owner ops get a bit more.

651 On paper, an owner op can make bank going coast to coast non stop. But everything has to be close to perfect, meaning somebody feeding you loads and paying you on time and your equipment holding up. Finding shippers and receivers who won't make you sit 6 hours.
