8 Willowed: Is dear ailing codger cat elderly too, or just ailing? It's clear you love him very much.
Posted by: FenelonSpoke at January 09, 2022

***
Hello, Fen,

Chekov is elderly as well. I thought "codger" sort of implied that. He's 14, about 70 in human terms. The only other cat I had who made it past 13 also started developing medical issues at 14. He and I soldiered on through his liver dysfunction and diabetes, until he developed cancer at 16. But he was able to move around and climb onto the back of my armchair until almost the very end at 16.5. So this is new territory for me.

Yeah, I love Chekov. He and I have had our difficulties, and he was not my favorite when Wolf was here. But the situation is what it is; he's my buddy, and I keep hoping that this is something that can be eventually improved by meds.

23 We live in a world with absurd and suicidal official decisions.

Just consider Australia. The Australian Border Force, with the backing of the Prime Minister, screwed over a wealthy, accomplished tennis star, at the top of his game. He is Serbian.

A démarche and a date from Serbia to Australia would be quite ironic. And justified.

They all stay slim too. Anyway this adorable young lady with a big smile was working there and was very helpful and I said, "Aren't you cute." I think her mother was peering to make sure I wasn't a child molester or something. I guess I should be more careful about the things I say.

100 The "poor" already got a 25% increase in food stamps (another driver of inflation for us all)

I doubt hardly any Americans realize how much all those monthly "benefits" payments have been driving higher grocery and food prices the last several years. Easy 10 percent. Probably a lot more.

90 million were getting some form of "assistance" 10 years ago. What is it now?

That's one reason when they were claiming "record low unemployment!" I had to laugh. That's all nonsense.

You can't have 1/3 of your adult population or whatever getting gubbmint buckies for the fiber of their being. Day care for delinquents being mobilized for color revolutions on the taxpayer dime. Here's your school lunch, kid. And breakfast, and dinner, and weekends, and summer....

There's a recipe I use for baguettes I got out of Reinhardt's book, called Pain a la Ancien.

Basically just high protein bread flour (i use KA too), a pinch of yeast, a smaller pinch of salt, and water. That's it. Mix up the dough and let it ferment overnight in the fridge.

Then pull it out first thing in the morning, let it warm up, stretch it into baguettes without degassing it too much, and bake in a ripping hot oven with a steam pan in it.

Comes out chewy and crusty and puffy and delicious.

113 Frozen OJ is kind of nasty, processed peel, I used to think it was healthier than soda. Yeah, it has Vitamin C I suppose and flavones or whatever, but technically speaking in terms of raw carbs it's not any better than soda pop.

I cut soda out of my diet a long time ago, which slowed my weight gain down a little bit. I don't miss it. I probably average 1000 to 1500 calories a day for the last 3 years now, not much room for sweets. Pizza, chocolate that's the only thing worth busting carbs for. Ice cream maybe.

126 Yeah, I'm getting the hang of it, a little. I might have a schedule, but the dough is on its own schedule. Temperature, amount of yeast, hydration.

It's easy to have a cheat day when baking. "I have to bake this right now, because it's ready to go" is pretty easy calculus.

I have a clay banneton that was my moms that I filched. A pan of water for steam, brush with egg white. I like the crispy, crackly dripping in butter thing.

Lots of salt in the dough. Not too much, but more than current recipes. I noticed James Beard, in that classic "Beard on Bread" book used 1 tablespoon per pound or whatever. About 10 times what all the health nazis recommend now. I use about half that maybe.

127 Iran denied a report that it had reached a two-year interim agreement with world powers on Sunday.
London-based Rai al-Youm reported that the sides completed a two-year deal in Vienna, by which the US would lift all sanctions placed on Iran by the Trump administration.
In return, all of Iran's advanced uranium would be transported to Russia.
Russia would reportedly serve as the guarantor of the agreement, in that it would return the uranium to Iran in the event of the US leaving the deal as it did in 2018.

179 Prayer request- A dear friend of mine, a retired minister who had been attending our church, had a fall before Christmas, and has gone steadily downhill. I think he's actually gone downhill since he had Covid shots months ago, but I'm not about the tell his family that. Anyway, he has sepsis and is in the ICU and his daughter tells me he will probably go into hospice within the week. His name is Dave. I just want him to go as smoothly as possible if he goes into hospice. He will them be able to be with his dear wife who was a lovely RC woman who died about 10 years ago. Thanks very much.

Yeah, I don't generally agree with the "heads are gonna roll" statement from the person who posted the tweet. But just sharing the video.

The Plandemic is going to be The Big Short 2.0. Where no one is held accountable for anything. Because all the people in a position to hold others accountable... are on the side of those running the Plandemic. Same as it ever was.

Joe Biden - [ ... ] "I'm not an economist, but I've been doing this a long time. But here's the way to look at it. If car prices are too high right now, there are two solutions: You increase the supply of cars by making more of them, or you reduce demand for cars by making Americans poorer. That's the choice.

Believe it or not, there's a lot of people in the second camp. You'll hear them complain that wages are rising too fast among the very middle-class and working-class people who have endured decades of stalled incomes.

Their view of the economy says the only solution to our current and future challenges is to make the working families that are the backbone in our country poorer or keep them in the state they're in."
