I've created an electronic worksheet (like the old Lotus 1-2-3 or Microsoft Excel) that calculates running totals of how much will be received as each year passes, varying by when starting to take SS -- for both me and my wife (we're the same age).

[And then it got complex because, although she's retired, I could conceivably keep working throughout my 60's and 70's -- so had to figure out tax implications if I kept working. I also should apply estimated annual Cost-of-Living increases with actual inflation and all that -- but way too complex, and hyperinflation will likely destroy everybody by then.]

Anyway, bottom line is (were things to remain relatively static

we both will end up with more money paid out, if we wait until full retirement age of 67, by living beyond 79 years; whereas if we wait until say age 70, we'd each need to live beyond 83. [Life expectancy for American males is 76, and it's 81 for American females].

My understanding, Wolfus, is that only your 35 highest-earning years will be counted in calculating your benefit -- so if your earnings this year qualifies, you should see a bump.

71 One thing about Social Security is if you sign up for paperless, they mean it. Yearly statements, alerts, etc. all go through My social security.gov. The site is pretty easy to access, not real bad to navigate. If you need a statement for proof of income, ask the party if your bank statement will suffice. Mine shows direct deposit identified as SS and VA.

90 I decided to retire and take SS at 62 because I had already outlived Grandad by a couple of yrs, and was only 4 yrs short of the age Dad died. I figured it was a safe bet. Who knows, maybe I will live to be 70 but I wasn't counting on it. At least I'll have some time for family, and am comfortable.

I really don't know about recruiting numbers in general. For Medical types we are doing ok, except for things like Nuerosurg and other very very very high earning individuals.

Yes, the latter. I made most of my big money when younger and a workaholic in corporate (socialist) America back between the 80s' and 00's. Now I'm a self-employed independent contractor, making almost as much, but because I drive 85,000 miles/year and get the mileage deduction, I end up with a small "paper" business gain and thus low "paper" earnings -- but also low taxes -- every year.

104 Well, I'll continue working for a while this year. I'll have SS, and then when I formally retire I have the pension (small, but useful, and it might be a tad higher by the time I leave). No car note, fairly low rent. I can look into one of those Medigap policies or Medicare Advantage plans. If I don't waste so much on credit card purchases, and I can dig up some income from online writing/editing gigs, I think I'll be all right.

My plan is to move someplace nicer (to me), put a good-sized down payment on a small house, and soldier on.

1) SCOTUS has outlived its usefulness. It has morphed into Night Court where petty disagreements are decided by retards. They've ducked any significant Constitutional issues for years.
2) Social Security's website has some informative tools, but you have to create or have an account. They already have your salary/earnings history so you can do a bit of "gaming out" scenarios to see what your monthly payment would be. Lastly, if you're anywhere near eligible to draw SS, do it. They are betting you die before you've exhausted your allotment and there's no way to pass unused SS payments to a child or spouse upon your death.

Yes... I should not have included "spouse." It's children that are not typically eligible. There's a formula and if you use the SS website you can project what payments would be if your spouse died.

That's an interesting suggestion. If I draw retirement now, my monthly SS stipend is X until I die. But, if I wait until I'm 70 it's almost 30% more. So I can 'retire' and draw a SS stipend of X while continuing to work until I'm 70 and all I really do is increase my taxable income.

Or, I can continue to work until I'm 70 without drawing the SS stipend and then retire and fall back on it atop what my 401k will provide.

Her (an ex-wife) filing for benefits under your record does not affect your benefit at all. A serial wife, married to 5 men, each at least 10 years, would get the highest SS payout from one of the five ex-husbands. A serial husband, married to 5 women, each at least 10 years, could have all five women receive SS payout from his work record.

Had a former colleage at work come to work on one of our sports-gear-wearing Fridays during football season (back in the before-times when we worked in the office) wearing a GB Packers Jordy Nelson jersey. While not as brave as wearing one had we been in Chicago, wearing one here in SE Michigan was still odd, as most around here came to work wearing UM or MSU garb. So I asked him about it. And SARS came from China. So they probably renamed SARS-2 to "COVID-19" to disassociate it from original SARS and China.

Because in first year or so of the Plandemic, pretty much no one talked about SARS-CoV-2. Narrative was all COVID. Depending on the day, COVID was either a virus or a disease. But no matter the day, it had nothing to do with China. And you were considered a racist if you thought otherwise, a conspiracy theorist if you thought it came from a Wuhan, China lab.

My brother and his family got to experience the cult for a while when he was stationed at Fort Riley about 5-10 years ago. They became defacto Kansas State football and Kansas basketball fans.

I first started following Kansas State football in 1998 when Purdue played them in the Alamo Bowl and pulled off the upset. Was my senior year at Purdue. Drew Brees postgame: "Offense can win games, but defense truly wins championships." Not sure what that meant, since there was no championship won, but it sounded good in the moment.
