Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Saturday Overnight Open Thread (1/1/22)NEW SALESMAN A Young guy from North Dakota moves to Florida and goes to a big "everthing under one roof" department store looking for a job. The Manager says, "Do you have any sales experience?" The kid says "Yeah. I was a vacuum salesman back in North Dakota." Well, the boss was unsure, but he liked the kid and figured he'd give him a shot, so he gave him the job. "You start tomorrow. I'll come down after we close and see how you did." His first day on the job was rough, but he got through it. After the store was locked up, the boss came down to the sales floor. "How many customers bought something from you today?" The kid frowns and looks at the floor and mutters, "One". The boss says "Just ONE?!! Our sales people average 20 to 30 customers a day. That will have to change, and soon, if you'd like to continue your employment here. We have very strict standards for our sales force here in Florida. One sale a day might have been acceptable in North Dakota, but your not on the farm anymore, son. The kid took his beating, but continued to look at his shoes, so the boss felt kinda bad for chewing him out on his first day. He asked (semi-sarcastically), "So, how much was your one sale for?" The kid looks up at his boss and says "$101,237.65". The boss, astonished, says, $101,237.65? What the heck did you sell?" The kid says, "Well, first, I sold him some new fish hooks. Then I sold him a new fishing rod to go with his new hooks. The I asked him where he was going fishing and he said down the coast, so I told him he was going to need a boat, so we went down to the boat department and I sold him a twin engine Chris Craft. Then he said he didn't think his Honda Civic would pull it, so i took him down to the automotive department and sold him that 4 x 4 Expedition." The Boss said, "A guy came in here to buy a fish hook and you sold him a boat and a TRUCK?" The kid said "No, the guy came in here to buy tampons for his wife, and I said, 'Dude, your weekend's shot, you should go fishing'" (H/T TNDeplorable) Good old Wisconsin and parental love on full display. WASHINGTON COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 5 -- A 20-year-old Milwaukee woman is accused of driving drunk twice on the same day. According to the Washington County Sheriff's Office, around 3:13 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 31, a deputy observed two vehicles traveling "unusually close together" on I-41 southbound near State Highway 33. The deputy noticed the lead driver was continuously swerving, driving half on and off the shoulder, and not maintaining consistent speeds. The following driver was traveling close behind the lead driver. Authorities say the deputy pulled alongside the pair of vehicles, activated his emergency lights and turn signal to get behind the lead vehicle. The following driver reportedly failed to yield to the deputy and pulled even closer to the lead vehicle; the following driver would not allow the deputy to pull into the lane of traffic to make the traffic stop. A woman who received a Secret Santa present with "really unpleasant sexual slurs" has been told to "get over herself" after her angry reaction to the gift. The tradition sees each staff member given a colleague to secretly buy a present for – but one Mumsnet user was furious when she opened her gift. She posted on the Am I Being Unreasonable forum: “I have been gifted a 'Go F**k Yourself I'm Colouring' 50 swear words to colour your anger away, adult colouring book… “Which should be fine, (but) a lot of the words to colour are not swear words per se but really, really unpleasant misogynistic, sexual slurs and terms that I associate with pornography.”If she was really offended. Keep it to yourself. Throw the damn present in the trash and move on with your life. Watch the stars, and see yourself running with them”: words of positivity from the Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius. But how many of us really dwell on the upside of life, as opposed to its mad, bad, seamy side? It’s unsurprising that we have lost some of our joie de vivre in the past few years – finding sparkle amid the grey has become distinctly difficult. But a riffle through a historical dictionary suggests that it’s always been this way, and at heart we’ve long been a pessimistic lot. I have resolved to not spend any time with people who hate me. And there is the matter of 80 extra pounds I've been carrying... I am also resolved to never, ever, under any circumstances, allow anyone else to treat me poorly. Or, if they do, to offer it up to God and THEN not let them do that any more. The anger is going to have to feed upon itself because I'm done with it. Mostly. Except for Brandon. Once again her tits and her mouth individually demonstrate bigger numbers than her IQ.
And yet, that scrunt has made $174k per year for the last 3 years on the taxpayer dime. And she just turned 32. When I turned 32, I was 4 months away from being laid off during the 2008 economy collapse. By age 34 after 2 years of unemployment, using my 401(k) and savings to stay afloat, I was broke and had to start over. Meanwhile, even with my current job, I started out making 1/3 of what she makes in one year. Even now, 10 years into my position, she still makes almost twice what I do. Considering her galvanting off to Florida this week, I wonder when was the last time she did absolutely anything at all to help the people in her district. So much for my "white privilege" and "the patriarchy". Apparently, all one needs is nice tits and low IQ to live the American dream. No wonder the movement these days of men-pretending-to-be-women. On a happier note, I have been binging Cobra Kai Season 4 and it has been awesome. Up to Ep7. Will probably finish off the season tomorrow. Lots of nostalgia and great blending of current culture and 80s culture. Great writing. A lot of laugh out loud moments. Especially with interactions between Johnny and Daniel. And such great nods back to the original series with lines used by current characters.
Two where I couldn't stop laughing. Johnny and Daniel are each teaching the other their karate styles. Daniel tells Johnny a story of what Mr. Miagi taught him about the best way to win a fight... "no be there". Later when Johnny sets up Daniel to have to fight a bunch of hockey goons, Daniel asked Johnny where the hell he was to help him. Johnny deadpans... "no be there" and walks away. Another... kids suggest Johnny recruit a girl to his dojo, but tell him she's woke, so he has to be woke. When he's about to go up to talk to her, his student says "remember sensai..." and Johnny goes "yeah, I know, I'm awake..." Posted by: Clyde Shelton at January 01, 2022 10:32 PM (Do5/p) 123

Those old country musicians, even the big stars, as well as the early rockers, had stressful lives. Play a venue, pile into the car, ride 300 miles, play a bar, pile into the car, ride 400 miles..every day of the year practically. A lot of them started taking pills and drinking to keep going. It wasn't til the 70s that musicians started getting pampered once they got big. A large part of why the Beatles quit doing concerts was because them and them alone at the time were big enough and made enough to not do it any more.

He changed his Twatter handled to "Mass Formation Poso". Google, noticing the trend, manually intervened to suppress the information. See Poso's feed for the details. They put up a video by some rando with very few followers to be the #1 search result for the phrase. Before, it would get you to the actual information. Now, it's very lame debunking attempts. If you want some fun, type "mass formation psychosis" into Google, Bing, and Duck Duck Go. The top hit on Duck Duck Go is Robert Malone's Substack article on mass formation psychosis, where he talks about how Covid hysteria is deliberately nurtured. This article has generated enormous interest in the last couple of days. Bing also returns Malone's article as the first hit. Google doesn't return the article on either of its first two pages (it returns references to the article). The first hit is an article denouncing the idea of mass formation psychosis. Google also has the following at the top of the search: It looks like these results are changing quickly If this topic is new, it can sometimes take time for results to be added by reliable sources I.e. Google's still working on burying Malone's article. Posted by: Oregon, Land Of The Permanent Mask Mandate! at January 01, 2022 10:45 PM (I2/tG) 173

As the city's chief sex crimes investigator, Perez arrested dozens of Wenatchee Valley adults between 1994 and 1995 on suspicion of sexually abusing children, sometimes in bizarre, ritualistic fashion. His investigation, with state Child Protective Services agents, ensnared 42 Chelan and Douglas County residents, 28 of whom were convicted or pleaded guilty, the newspaper reported.
Of the cases that ended in convictions or guilty pleas, 18 were thrown out or overturned on appeal after Perez's tactics were investigated by a specially appointed appellate judge. The investigation found that Perez coerced suspects, many poor and developmentally disabled, into making false confessions, and coached testimony from witnesses. Two key victims were in Perez's foster care at the time. Both later recanted their claims of sexual abuse. By 2004, the city of Wenatchee had paid out more than $7 million in jury awards and settlements to claimants who were falsely accused. The last civil lawsuit against the city was settled in 2011 for $120,000, the paper reported. I mentioned earlier being banned at a 3rd guitar forum. Most of you don't know how I got banned at the 2nd guitar forum.
Somebody at that particular guitar site posted a short (incomplete) video of Bruce Springsteen's appearance on Steven Cobert's show. A few posters commented that they had heard there was some controversy about his appearance there, but they didn't know what any of it was about. In reply, I pointed out that Springsteen had asserted during that appearance that whites were all racists, and that we would have practically in unison called Clarence Clemons the n-word if we had run into him outside of a concert. For that, I was given a SIX FREAKING MONTHS ban for "racially charged posting". Yeah, 6 months, for merely reporting what Bruce Springsteen said. On a GUITAR site. The left is out of its mind, and the clueless "center" is so fucking clueless that they're getting run over AND doing everything they can to enable their own demise. One of the interesting things about Humor. Its both SUBJECTIVE and offends someone. All Humor is based on cruelty. Whether that cruelty is to yourself, or others... That is what makes us laugh (sadly). So a Pollock Joke? Offensive and subjective. Rodney Dangerfield? Offended his OWN manhood and self. Three Stooges? Physical Cruelty often. Miley happened to hit a local Publix at the right time when they just got in a shipment of cream. She stocked up, and got about 3 or 4 pints of heavy cream. While the USDA defines these things officially as range, this is what you get roughly in the stores: Half-and-half: 12% milk fat Light cream: 20% Whipping cream: 35% Heavy cream: 38% That is a rough list there, as the definitions are a range. Half-an-half can be up to 18% fat, for example. In the UK, they have different ranges, and even a "double cream", 48% milk fat category. That's getting close to "butter" per US definitions. 415 Supposed to hit a low of 37 tomorrow night. SF's all-time low is 27 back in 1935-ish. OTOH, record high is 106 a few years ago which i was in. No one has A/C.
415, eh? Many decades ago, we had some neighbors planning an addition to their house in the Sunset and somehow they pissed off, or failed to bribe, the building department and their plans got stiff-armed for months until...voila, they gave up and moved to the Burlingame flatlands south of the San Bruno Mountain Fog Wall. Next time I talked to them, it was "we didn't realize the days were actually that long". We moved down the Peninsula thirty-odd years ago and we had maybe thirty stupid-hot days a year which, given the poor insulation and ventilation on our house, led to AC. Then we remodeled twenty years ago, and put in a buttload of opening skylights, and now we almost never need it, have to run it just to keep it working. We still get thirty stupid-hot days a year, but bay breezes blowing through the skylights. Posted by: JEM at January 02, 2022 01:57 AM (8erNz) 432
..I think that Ted Cruz would get a kick out of the Babylon Bee article. He seems to have a good, sharp sense of humor and uses it occasionally to take A O-C to task. Posted by: FenelonSpoke at January 02, 2022 01:52 AM (k49Sx) I've both heard him speak, and met him, and you're right.
More, he's close friends with the radio host Michael Berry, who filled in for the Rush Limbaugh Show last week, (yeah, C&B, blah blah), and knocked it outta the park. When Cruz is a guest on the Michael Berry Show, especially for an hour, and not just a segment, his brilliance and humor shows through. Pity though. All that, and it doesn't carry on T.V. Just really doesn't. Not all due to editing, but Ted just doesn't cut the T.V. profile or chemistry, and that's a damn shame. In the UK, they have different ranges, and even a "double cream", 48% milk fat category. That's getting close to "butter" per US definitions.
Posted by: publius, Rascally Rapscallion (Mzdiz) at January 02, 2022 01:54 AM (Mzdiz) Point is, whole milk, straight from the cow tit, runs about 3.5% butterfat. It's almost like they aren't running the cream separators, and are pushing out nearly all the product as whole milk. But why it should be like that in widely-separated parts of the country is beyond me. Dairy is mainly local. Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at January 02, 2022 01:59 AM (P3gRi) 434
And I agree with browndog from an earlier comment. The "ya creepy weirdos" sort of humanizes A O-C. It's kind of amusing. It also sounds like something she didn't write. I also don't get what complaining about her BF's sandals has to do with sexual tension towards her by Republican men?.
Posted by: FenelonSpoke at January 02, 2022 02:01 AM (k49Sx) 435
I was just reading. You can make English "double cream" with 5 oz of (unsalted) butter to 4 oz of whole milk. The result will be the equivalent of "double cream". Butter is still in pretty good supply around here. And I don't know really what's going on. The local stores blame trucking issues as the problem. I agree with you and it is a shame because I think he's a very clever, smart guy, but he'll be lambasted if he ever runs for President by being portrayed as an out of touch nerd. Then again, the three choices the media presents for Republicans are either evil, stupid, crazy religious nut or some combination of the three. With Trump we got presented with "stupid rich guy who can't control his sexual impulses" Posted by: FenelonSpoke at January 02, 2022 02:06 AM (k49Sx) 438

Actually, one local grocery store (the closest and easiest one to get to from here) blamed local labor supply one time. They'd run out a milk late in the afternoon. They close at 10PM, and if you got there in the early evening, the milk would be consistently out of stock. Manager told Miley the problem was labor. Said he could get a truck in, but couldn't get enough labor to unload the damned truck if it got there. So, he just gets a milk load in the early morning, and that's it for the day. The supply chain is royally fucked. Posted by: publius, Rascally Rapscallion (Mzdiz) at January 02, 2022 02:09 AM (Mzdiz) 442

I remember going to the Protestant Church services aboard the Ballast Point Naval (submarine) Base, San Diego, CA.
This was when the Thresher sank, with all hands. I would've been about in kindergarten, I suppose. Not gonna do the math now, anyway. The hymns were IN CRED I BILE. Onward Christain Soldiers. And, the Navy Hymn. You might not think that a five year old's soul can't be crushed by the music and emotion. You would be wrong. I'm the old school, Jim. I came into the church with old hymns. I don't "get" most of the praise choruses. Some of the hymns can still get me choked up and I've been in the church since the 80's , I always have a time the services when I explain the background of the hymns if we haven't sung them before.. so many come out of deep, painful experiences when all they had to bling to was the rock of Jesus Christ.

My brother. See my 447, immediately preceding yours. I was born into the John Wayne ethos. "I won't be wronged, I won't be insulted, and I won't be laid a hand on. I don't do these things to other people, and I require the same from them." And my memories of defending this go back (literally) to my toddler years. 2-1/2 years old, and slapped my momma's face for a perceived insult. Didn't even comprehend what an "insult" was, then, but guess I knew it when it happened? That's a longer story, and I remember every detail. Oh, did I get my ass burned for that, and how! The staffing problem is that those in power keep enacting "safety nets" that provide as much (or almost as much) for staying at home as they would earn for working. That's why you see so much drive-thru activity at fast food restaurants. Here in Oklahoma, we have ZERO lockdowns, but its hard for restaurants to find workers. I refuse to frequent drive-thrus. I don't want to eat in my car, nor do I want to drive 10 minutes while my food gets cold. We've GOT to demand that businesses stand up to the nonsense that is being done with our economy. The marxists WANT a large proportion of our country to get used to sitting at home and getting a check--that's how they harvest votes. We've got to stand up and say that the "emergency" is over--stop the endless checks to able bodied people who need to work for their money. "Onward Christain Soldiers" IS a Crusader Hymn. And while now, Jerusalem is safely in Jewish hands, I'd be quite content with the retaking of Constantinople and restoring there, The Church. And I'm not that picky as to which liturgical denomination, though the Greek seems the most suited choice. Romans though? Yeah, get back to me when they've renounced and CONDEMNED the communists and abortionists?
