Lovely, would put in the rotation.

Winter sky with dawn or dusk highlights is somewhat comforting for some reason.

It may or may not be true - I know I am going out on a limb.

I think this is a false flag to throw off the real name. They say that some people typed in washingtonadmirals into the url bar and it went to the WFT site. But if you type it in now it goes to thegivingkitchen.org which is a charity foodbank.

But according to dnshistory.com that was created in 2008. And the WFT is saying that they are going to keep the brand colors of burgundy and gold. Which isn't very admiral-ly at all.

106 I love this type of painting showing the majesty of nature, especially in North America. This one is more intimate than many of Moran's which cover a wider scope. The dark and stormy sky and dark evergreen trees contrast powerfully with the snow cover. Then the dark elk in the center focuses the viewer's eye and all else radiates from him. It is effective and inspiring. I need to learn more about this artist.

I think the film was "inspired by" John "Liver-eating" Johnson. In real life, Johnson killed so many Crow Indians and other Indians) and would cut out their liver and eat it still warm. He was huge, stronger than an ox, incredibly wily, and just generally a badass. Still, he worked hard on his relationships with the Indian tribes, other mountain men, and even some settlers whose paths he crossed.

I saw the movie years ago and it was fun. But there's little resemblance to the real Johnson. I recommend the book whole-heartedly.

Yeah, he's gonna hate them. He has fucking good reason to hate them.

None of the switches etc were marked etc and according to his mechanic at the airport he took off from Denver had to put a pillow behind his back to reach the rudder pedals. Mechanic asked him to allow him to refuel the plane and Denver said no he was only going up for a few passes. FAA determined Denver ran out of gas, tried to turn around and switch tanks as the switch was behind his left shoulder and inadvertently pushed down on a rudder pedal causing the plane to nosedive. Toxicology of what remains were recovered showed no drugs or alcohol.

Afaik there's some faction of academia that focuses on that. Probably a relic of Spanish and British rivalries. It's rather in recent years that the Spanish have been re-identified as an oppressed people. Traditionally Anglo-sphere works portrayed the Spanish as villainous.

It worked, too. Map the countries that speak Spanish today and the countries that speak Portuguese today, and it's pretty close.

Brazil speaks Portuguese because at the time the line was drawn, they didn't know Brazil stuck out that far to the east, so it wound up in the Portuguese half.

This is another example of "everything the Left does is projection," although it's more subtle.

"Colonialism" is bad. Moreover, colonialism is a consequence of power structure just like racism and sexism are. As Anglo-American culture is successful it is therefore powerful and its influences are therefore colonial and as a result its evil. English as the language of business worldwide? Colonialism. American media being consumed globally? Colonialism. This all degrades the native cultures and is bad. Boilerplate stuff, really.

But then look at Afghanistan and basically everything else, too. The NGOs and government had a field day there for more than a decade with full-on social engineering to bring American Leftism to Afghanistan. It is also the first stuff that got torn down and painted over when the Taliban swept back through. Afghanistan was a direct, deliberate, military-backed colonial exercise by all available *facts.* But it doesn't fit the Left definition of "colonial" because it was "good."

Back in the day when I worked at T-Mobile, I worked with a black guy who definitely leaned left. I liked him. He was a nice guy.

Anyway, the story comes out about Afghanistan men throwing acid in a girl's face for going to school. He's all incensed about it. It's awful.

And then I say that under colonialism, this sort of thing gets punished as opposed to the native cultures that encouraged it. It was the, "Fine, you may kill the adultress because it is you're custom, but I will hang you afterwards for it is my custom," writ small and modern.

It made him think. Doubt it really changed his view of colonialism, but the cognitive dissonance became appreciable in that moment.

I think the lesson here is that the war of authority and the wrestling for power (father vs. teacher, Republican vs. Democrat, executive vs. legislative, left vs. right) always has a victim who failed to realize they always had the power over the others. Fear of rejection, abandonment, retaliation, humiliation, etc is a tool used by both warring parties to inflict submission onto the one who really holds the power. I think this is called triangulation.

I must have had philosophy in my coffee....

I can always go to the church I serve, but I was thinking of someplace else and some of the others I had gone to require masks. Anyway, I am trying to only post non political things today. Here's one -a beautiful hymn called " I want to walk as a child of the light" . This guy doesn't have an operatic voice but it's pleasing and the video contains the lyrics. It is appropriate for Epiphany, and we will have it in church this Sunday;

Why is there a new Polio vaccine? We've already gone down this road and faced the *same* problems. Salk's original vaccine was effective but non-sterilizing (bad news). The subsequent oral vaccine was effective and sterilizing, but could actually give you Polio. The fix (early on) was to get the Salk first and then the oral. The Salk protected you from the oral, and the oral gave you sterilization. The combination that came later had all three features (effective, sterilizing, won't give you Polio).

We have effective Polio vaccines already. Why make a new one, especially if it doesn't work as well?

Missed it by that (finger tiny bit apart) much. "Retard" , those people have an ability that most do not. They approach life as a child. The movie didn't display the negative side of that much. But the positive side, there is one, and it was on display. A simple loving heart. Not all those who are atypical neurologically are humanized golden retrievers, (Tom Hanks character) but simplicity and genuine being are more common than not.

Misplaced causality, I suspect.

"Rich countries reproduce at lower rates and are healthier than poor countries. To reduce pop group, increase health."

It's the wrong conclusion. The lower birth rates that comes with industrialization and wealth are multi-variable problems and no one really knows the answer. Lots of theorizing (and health is part of those theories), but there is no single answer.

687 Everything he mentions there, on the surface, should increase the world's population. Sick to contemplate what they mean when they say healthcare and vaccines.

And yet, in the Western world populations are actually in decline.

So it would follow that the more 'advanced' a country becomes, the less population growth you get. So why are we then importing surplus populations from third world shitholes, to the West, allowing that surplus population to thrive, and continue to grow.

688 The infuriating thing about all the events since Jan. 2020 (which is all ONE plan), is this:
They got away with it. Totally. Completely.
Not one person has suffered the smallest consequence.
40 new billionaires.

689 Wow I did not know we had another group there but not surprised.

Did y'all get teargassed?

We all were in Houston, playing in a competitive tiddlywinks tournament. Swearsies.

690 I actually do have to go out at some point today and make sure everything is ready for the 3-6" of snow predicted for Friday. At least now I can wait until the storm is over before tackling it rather than getting up early to clear things away before work.

I'm just adjusting, this first week. I'm not depressed, per se, but not as joyful as I thought I would be.

You need a morning routine. M-F. Wake at same scheduled time, set routine, maybe some treadmill time. Doesn't have to be much but it anchors the day.

You haven't emerged from the old mindset. It's like the first week of summer vacation as a kid.

692 First time I saw Forest Gump, I felt sorry for Jenny. Second time I saw it, I felt like she screwed up her life and the lives of everyone around her. Some people just want to throw away happiness. I don't think Boomers have a lock on that attitude.

693 PornHub has a number of teacher/student movies.

I used to work with a girl who looked exactly like the singer, Lulu, in that movie. So much so that I printed out a still from it and tacked it to her cube wall.

Posted by: FenelonSpoke at January 05, 2022 12:29 PM (49p6F)

699 698 She was a young 'un, so she'd never heard of it until I showed her clips. It was pretty funny. She was a dead-ringer in a couple scenes. Good old Beth.
