To properly be effective, the tourniquet would need to be applied around the neck to restrict flow, which, in turn, is counterproductive.

68 Elisabeth Louise Vigee Le Brun; French, 1755 - 1842
Elisabeth Louise Vigee Le Brun was one of the foremost portraitists in Europe at the end of the eighteenth century and during the first three decades of the nineteenth. [...]

Her early success attracted the attention of the foremost dealer in Paris, Jean Baptiste Pierre Le Brun (1748-1813), whom she married in 1776. He readily lent her paintings from his stock so that she could copy them. In 1780 the artist gave birth to her only child, a girl christened Jeanne Julie Louise (1780-1819), upon whom she doted and whose likeness she was to draw and paint frequently, either alone or in her mother's embrace. [...]

Vigee Le Brun fled France in October 1789, and she returned in 1802. During that time, she traveled and worked in the courts of Italy (1789-1792), Austria (1792-1795), Russia (1795-1801), and Germany (1801), where she was hailed for her talent, treated like a prima donna, and earned a considerable fortune. Except for a sojourn in England (1803-1805) and short trips to Switzerland (1807-180, her days of wandering had virtually come to an end.

111 This is such a lovely portrait. The relatively muted colors let the delicate skin tones become the focus both for the loving pose and their faces. What makes this stand out for me is the direct eye contact mother and daughter have with the viewer. That effectively makes it more intimate instead of some figure uninvolved with the audience.

191 OT, but I'm going to stop at Chekov's vet tomorrow after my haircut to pick up his injectable medicine. The oral liquid prednisone is not improving him -- though he is better with it than without -- and his vet mentioned this injection series. I forget the name of the med. It'll be 2x a week for the first month, then, I think, 2x a month after that. I've done this before, getting insulin into my diabetic cat Arizona: While he was eating, a quick pinch of the loose skin between the shoulder blades and zing! And AZ was much more active than is Chekov right now.

Maybe it'll help. This cat is sleeping a lot, eating, using the litter box; and not much else.

==========

I've gone from thinking Biden runs again in 2024 to desperately hoping he does.

Any primary challenge against Biden, especially from the left, is going to gain far more traction than the pathetic attempts against Trump in 2020. Biden is significantly less popular than Trump was, and the far left is never happy. They wouldn't win, the institutional resistance would be too large, but we'd get months of the far left calling Biden a befuddled idiot that will penetrate a lot of minds and lessen any enthusiasm for him come the general.

I put it like this on the Morning Report:
1. Determine who you are not allowed to question.
2. Determine who you are not allowed to lampoon.
3. Determine who is silenced.

Anyone in either or both of groups one and two is an enemy. Anyone in group three might - though also might not - be an ally. There is at least an open question with regard to group three. There is no question about the first two.

This also works in the opposite direction. Which platforms are entirely captive to those first two, and actively engaging in the third? You can probably write them off entirely.

294 Any primary challenge against Biden, especially from the left, is going to gain far more traction than the pathetic attempts against Trump in 2020. Biden is significantly less popular than Trump was, and the far left is never happy. They wouldn't win, the institutional resistance would be too large, but we'd get months of the far left calling Biden a befuddled idiot that will penetrate a lot of minds and lessen any enthusiasm for him come the general.

351 326 Long time lurker (2006 at least). This blog has keep my spirits up over the years. Thought I must comment today because am currently in Paris and took a photo of this very painting this morning at the Louvre. Very strange to then see it here! On our way home Wednesday if we pass our ridiculous Covid test tomorrow.

Try and hit the Musee d'Orsay if you have time. Some wonderful stuff there and it is a manageable size.

352 I still wonder that Earth Shoes(separated?) and negative heel were a thing. The mere thought of essentially doing fingertip exercises with my feet sounds like torture.

356 321 I think you are correct. I have a few VHS tapes of B&B recorded from MTV. They have the music video portions -- AND the banned episodes (such as the one where they were inhaling stove gas at Stewart's house). Good stuff!!
Posted by: Doof at January 03, 2022 10:57 AM (mZUr4)

Several years ago, there was a multi-DVD torrent available referred to as the "King Turd Collection" containing every single B&B episode--with music videos included--assembled from various sources. I don't generally sail the high seas these days so I don't know if it's still being seeded. I did make backups onto my NAS as DVD-Rs can fail.

360 Madame is well portrayed but the little girl looks like she wouldn't sit still long enough so the artist had to kind of wing it for the perspective and angle.
