The Morning Report - 12/29/21

alkaseltzfauci.jpg

Good morning, kids. Wednesday, and the passing of legendary NFL coach and sports commentator John Madden is noted not only to honor the man who was the voice of the sport in its golden age but, considering the downfall of that sport in the past decade, as a powerful metaphor for the downfall of our nation, society and culture. Also noted is the passing of former Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, much like the passing of a peanut M&M-sized barbed kidney stone through the inflamed, diseased urinary tract of our now zombified body politic. The contrast between these two individuals who, to me, represent the best and worst that this nation can offer, cannot be more stark. RIP and Godspeed to coach Madden and a swift journey across the River Styx to Harry Reid.

Meanwhile, as the final days of this accursed year slip away and herald the start of what no doubt will be a third accursed year, the battle lines are becoming clearer. Over in Europe, the lockdowns over what is in fact essentially nothing more serious than the common cold or seasonal flu, have been reinstated and are even more repressive than the initial go rounds. And the citizenry are taking to the streets. Over on this side of the pond, there seem to be mixed signals from the tyrants and criminals that have destroyed our economy and driven a pretty sizable percentage of the citizenry insane with Chinese COVID mania. Unlike the latter, the majority are sick of this and want to get back to some semblance of normalcy. Sensing this, the junta has been signaling that it wants to move on, not so much for the sake of normalcy but because the continued lockdowns, vaccine passports and all the rest of it are turning into a drag on their already shaky political prospects heading into the midterms. But, in ginning up the fear, they have created a monster.

Not everyone is pleased with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) Monday decision to relax the quarantine and isolation requirements for people who catch [Chinese] COVID-19.

The agency announced that individuals who test positive for [Chinese] COVID-19 now only need to isolate themselves for five days, not ten, before returning to normal activities while wearing a mask for five more days. The move was welcomed by some, including organizations like the NFL, which are updating their own testing and isolation protocols as a result.

For others, the shift in policy represented the Biden [junta] caving in to big business. . .

. . . "So we find out that Delta CEO Ed Bastian asked the CDC to reduce the recommended quarantine time from 10 days to 5 for vaccinated people because of workforce impact," wrote former Democratic Congressional candidate Russell Foster. "This change has nothing to do with the virus or your health & everything to do with the profits of corporations. . . "

. . . Others went as far as to suggest that Biden's CDC was going to get people killed. That group includes former Hillary Clinton adviser Peter Daou, who asked "WHAT IN THE ACTUAL F*CK IS THIS?"

The "actual fuck," Peter, is your boss' husband's slogan "it's the economy, stupid" biting this evil junta in half. Even if the Klain/Kalorama Klown Komintern expanded the drilling, fracking, digging and extraction of every last drop of oil, gas and coal across the country, the lockdowns and insistence on injecting every man, woman and child (except the tens of millions of illegal aliens already here and soon to arrive) with the Fauci Fix have all but wiped out much of the private sector; specifically, small business which traditionally constitutes the lion's share of our comatose economy. Imagine what would happen to it if the musings of the midget Mengele-wannabe about vaccine mandates for domestic air travel actually come to pass.

Even staunch lefty Ned Lamont up in Connecticut is stating out loud what we have all known since the very beginning vis a vis the efficacy of mask mandates. That is, they're as effective in stopping transmission of this virus as a chainlink fence is in keeping you protected from mosquitos. Joey Softserve himself admitted there was "no federal solution" to the Chinese COVID crisis -- which his handlers quickly backtracked on without necessarily stating that it was merely the ravings of a wilting petunia that somehow escaped its pot.

But that said, all these mixed signals make it difficult to read just what the hell the next moves are. Will we go back to even some semblance of normalcy or are the Karen-driven fear brigades to be a permanent fixture of the landscape? One thing's for sure, mail-in voting and all the other banana republic bullshit that gives Democrats permanent control of the electoral process is not only not going to be reversed but is sure to be ramped up to the max, especially as 2022 and 2024 draw closer.

We cannot know the future and for sure there are events that are going to rock our world. And there are events that are going to rock the globalists' world as well. As John Madden might say, "boom!"

9 SAINT OF THE DAY
St. Thomas Becket (1118-1170), also known as St. Thomas of Canterbury, was the son of a prosperous London merchant. Being a well-educated youth, he was appointed as clerk to the Archbishop of Canterbury, and was later made Archdeacon. In this role he met and became close friends with King Henry II of England. The King promoted Becket to the office of Lord Chancellor, and, when the Archbishop of Canterbury died, made Becket the new Archbishop in 1162, the most powerful ecclesiastical position in all of England. King Henry II supposed that having his close friend in such a position would enable him to enforce his will on the Church. However, in his new role as priest and archbishop, Thomas Becket experienced a religious conversion and transferred his ultimate allegiance to the Church. This led to frequent conflicts over the rights of the Church between the King of England and the Archbishop of Canterbury, resulting in Becket's exile. When Becket returned to England, he was murdered by four knights, the king's lackeys, as he was offering Mass at the Canterbury Cathedral altar on December 29, 1170. St. Thomas Becket's feast day is December 29th.

++++
The mixed signals are because no one is charge. It is increasingly evident that the ship has no captain. There were huge, blinking signs in this regard during the Afghanistan debacle, but now it's clearer. No one is setting policy and the buck stops in different places depending on how it's routed.

One faction is decidedly in the "COVID is over" camp and the other is in the "COVID forever" camp. President meat-puppet himself is being buffeted around between them. Less than a week elapsed between "Dark Winter of COVID" and "No Federal Solution for COVID" statements. Some of the agencies are winding down and others are going hard. Some press outlets are pivoting to "calm yer tits, it's no big deal" while others are still going hard on the death messaging. There's no single strategy, there's an intra-Party war going on over COVID response continuation, and we're all just so many pieces of collateral damage.

There is a reason governing officials blithely ignore massive public demonstrations against clearly unpopular and extra-legal mandates.

There is a reason violent criminals are loosed upon the public without delay or consequence.

There is a reason illegal aliens don't show ID to fly around the country to their new home and schools.

There is a reason a torrent of illegal drugs and trafficked children are pouring across the border.

65 China is about to drop a bomb from space somewhere on earth and even they have no idea where. So, of course, the Chinese social media accounts start attacking SpaceX, to prepare the battle space.

The crash of the Long March 5B core stage however is due entirely to a bad design that does not allow for any controlled maneuvers. Once the stage's engines shut down after delivering the station module into orbit, they cannot be restarted, as designed. The stage must fall to Earth in an unpredictable manner, threatening every spot it flies over during that orbital decay.

74 with the Fauci Fix have all but wiped out much of the private sector; specifically, small business which traditionally constitutes the lion's share of our comatose economy.
++++
The destruction of non-monopoly businesses during this exercise is going to take a decade or more to work out - but even then, only if we stop doing what we're doing. The controls have to be removed, the COVID bullshit needs to stop. If that happens, then we'll continue to languish for a year or two until small businesses form and start and producing. Then the clock that was stopped in 2020 will restart, albeit essentially from zero. Some small number of small businesses will become the major drivers of employment and production when they develop into midsize enterprises. Some of those will become large businesses. Some will remain small forever, and many will fail. This is the normal progression.

We've never had a gigantic reset before, though, that causes most of the small business economy to die and then restart (if we're lucky) all at once. Even if we stop deliberately killing them, what we've done is going to have business cycle implications for probably the next 50 or 60 years.

But Hepburn is perfect as Eleanor, who seems to have been everything portrayed in that movie, and more. Best part of that double feature is that Peter O'Toole does a fantastic and believable portrayal of a bad-ass English King, a portrayal only equaled in film by Patrick McGoohan in Braveheart.

Personally, I pick "Lion in Winter" and "Man for all Seasons" as the two best scripts of any historical dramas. "Lion in Winter" is really just a story of a family sharing a Christmas together at home - but it's a family we've all been talking about for nearly 800 years now.

John Madden loved Lambeau Field and Brett Favre. He gushed over both of them. I wonder what he thought this past weekend as Aaron Rodgers broke Favre's all-time TD passing record of 442. BTW, Rodgers gave the 443 football to Favre's 11 year old grandson. Who knew Favre was old enough to have an 11 year old grandson? In thirty years, the Packers have only had 2 quarterbacks. 156 This is almost certainly what happened. I can't believe that the media went with the 'official' story behind his injuries. If that happened to me, I'd be suing the manufacturer of the weight machine toot suite. IIRC, there was no news of any lawsuit against the machine maker, so it couldn't have been true.

--

That's an excellent observation, Darrell. I hadn't thought about it, but you're absolutely right. The "accident" made fairly big news. Yet, no mention of any action taken by Reid to hold the manufacturer accountable for the serious injuries he sustained. That's a tell.

There WAS a lawsuit against the manufacturer filed by Reid and his family, this was one of the funniest (and stupidest) parts of the entire story! The suit was filed, Reid swore he was gonna get compensation, and then the Company demanded to see the apparatus at fault, to determine why it had failed and if it was detective.

Reid's representative said, to the Court: "Um, my clients family threw it in the garbage since it had bad memories."

Everyone involved rolled their eyes and the suit was instantly dismissed.

Posted by: goatexchange at December 29, 2021 08:25 AM

Madden just oozed football. I don't think he got into all the distracting non-football nonsense they typically talk about during football games nowadays to try to fill air time between plays. He was always focused on the game, always focused on the strategy, drawing on the screen to show things when that feature became available, etc. He had tons of knowledge of and experience with the game on which to draw and that always came out in his broadcasts.

I think that's why people have enjoyed Tony Romo so much. He seems to exude that same type of joy of football and talking about football that Madden had. And the same type of attention to football strategy and explaining it that Madden did so well. Not saying Romo is the new Madden. Madden was one of a kind. But Romo is in the same mold, in my opinion.

Why would a Californian lefty just looking to improve quality of life without being surrounded by those smelly regressives move to South Carolina or Tennessee instead of Colorado or New Mexico? She's the one that had a job offer from Dave Rubin, but turned it down to take a music-industry job in Nashville. She had to get out of H'wood because she was tired of living in fear of getting "found out" as a secret rightie and being cancelled. There's one ex-Cali who won't be voting Cali in her new home.

I think Romo is great in the booth because he tells it like it is, from the player's perspective and knows each situation inside and out. He imparts his inside the ropes knowledge on you.

That out of the way:

"Will we go back to even some semblance of normalcy or are the Karen-driven fear brigades to be a permanent fixture of the landscape?"

After Mao died the CCP decided to shut down the Cultural Revolution. Young women, for the most part, refused to stop screaming and rioting and terrorizing. After numerous pleas to stop, the commies decided there only was one way to put an end to them. Some estimates place the Cultural Revolutionists who had to be shot dead north of 10,000. Women set into motion for a religious cause, particularly a secular one, are particularly insane.

The American Left has a big, big problem on its hands here and is as perfectly capable as its Chinese communist counterparts to use extreme measures to bring its radicalized NPC's into line. Mandatory Prozac and institutionalization is more likely here.

Yeah, I don't know when that crap started, but it's long past gotten old. Every team does it now and have been doing it for years. The NFL tried to put a stop to it about 10-12 years ago, but got branded the No Fun League. So they stopped flagging and fining players for the "celebrations".

I have always liked the adage of "act like you've been there before". So I was always a big fan of Mike Alstott and Barry Sanders.

If they want to do that on a game-clinching play, fine. But in the middle of a game when the outcome is far from determined, knock that shit off.

299 Her being in "The Biz" it pretty much had to be Nashville or Memphis. But yeah, she knows Nashville isn't all that conservative but TN in general is, and for someone from Hollyweird (and born and raised in San Fran too!), that's certainly a big step up.

---------

Very true about the step up!

One more piece of unasked for advice - tell her to make sure she has car insurance against uninsured drivers. Nashville is notorious for hit and run drivers, because even though everyone is supposed to have insurance, many people don't (because they are trying to make it in the music biz and aren't) and they are also crappy drivers in general. So there are many hit and run accidents.

When my son moved there a few years ago, the guy he rented a room from told him he had been living there 3 years and had been in 5 accidents, none of which were his fault.

My son couldn't figure out why his car insurance rates went up so much when he moved there until he learned all this. We had been sure they would go down after leaving this area. We were wrong.

301 whereas in Nashville, liberals have to pretend to be conservative (or at least not outgoing about their liberalism) to try to stay under the radar, since the area is generally conservative-ish.

I don't think that's true. Nashville proper is an urban shit hole on par with any other blue shit hole. This past June I was in the city with my son for dinner. It reminded me a lot of San Francisco a decade or so ago. Nobody really pretends to be conservative there because they don't have to. Even the country music scene is leftist. Many of the so-called stars are also left leaning and have "come out" as it's safe for them now.

Yep, read that yesterday. Remember that doctor a while back who said that he treated numerous elected officials and their families in D.C. with Ivermectin and other treatments that have been banned for treatment for the rest of us. This could be how we're not seeing athletes in sports leagues here in America dropping like flies. First, they're probably getting good treatments, even the banned ones and second, they're probably not getting the vaccines. If any of the are getting "vaccinated", I think someone said some people get saline solution or something. And I bet Antonio Brown is not the only player in sports leagues in USA who is using a fake vaccination card. He's just the only one who has been caught.

Omicron is vax-resistant, highly transmissible and very mild (in terms of illness). It's ripping through everywhere. This is a good thing, because it also provides broad immunity but it's still a variant of the same virus and still causes COVID and so all of the COVID requirements like quarantines and the like still apply. It doesn't make any sense given what Omicron appears to be, but the rules are all still in place.

I think they got rid of that rule years ago. I know Bill Belichick was a big rule-breaker in that, because he was always being criticized for always wearing an frumpy hoodie on the sidelines. And there was a SF 49ers coach a while back who always wore dress clothes and tie on the sideline.

Following his hiring by the 49ers, Nolan asked the NFL for permission to wear a suit and tie on the sidelines as a tribute to his father. The league initially denied Nolan's request because of the contract it had with Reebok for its coaches to wear team-logo attire, a ruling that was changed during Nolan's second season as coach. In the new NFL policy, coaches were allowed to wear a full suit for only two home games per season. The suits were designed, marketed and labeled under the Reebok corporation. ... After further lobbying by Nolan, the NFL and Reebok reached an agreement to allow suits to be worn at all home games in the 2007 season.

The state probably can't afford to bail out Nashville or Memphis when the time comes. The state financing system in Tennessee is pretty restrictive, which is one of the reasons the state a decent place to live. There's no income tax and the primary financing mechanism is sales taxes, but those are capped at both state and local levels. The state gets 7% and the localities, in aggregate, can take another 2.75 points for themselves. The effect of this is high average sales taxes (most stores are in places that tax at the cap, so the combined rate is 9.75%) but they can't go higher without a state constitutional amendment. Property taxes are variable but often competitive within any given region. There isn't much state-controlled money (comparatively) for TN to play with.

370 Not to defend Non-Binary Ben, and I may be wrong on this, but it seems to me that Shapiro and crew were planning their move for quite a long time. It may have pre-dated the rise of DeathSantis. Actually, even if Desantis was in office when he first planned the move, Covid hadn't happened yet so DeSantis wasn't such a polarizing figure yet.

371 "He (VDHanson) observed how architects of the globalist enterprise cultivate ethnic and racial agitation to create perceptions of grievance and victimhood among targeted demographic groups. He noted that upward mobility rooted in meritocracy threatens the leftist paradigm of a zero-sum struggle between haves and have-nots."

That says a lot. But since VDH is specific in his words, I had to question whether that "zero sum struggle" is really the "leftist paradigm".

imo the "leftist" architects want total control, and they feed their masses the soylent green, fake class struggle religion as a false god. The lower level leftist advances by burning his own neighborhoods (BLM/Antifa). These are all mechanizations of the evil oligarchs, and even the community organizers are tools of the globalists.

I am in no place telling family members about raising children, as I have my own demons to battle. But willingly giving children heart attacks and having them jump for joy over it, all to placate their parents about a disease that hits children like the common cold - it does not help the major depression.

I told him the very best thing he could do at this point was to go out and get Covid. Best possible variant. Best time in your life to get the sweet, sweet, longlasting immunity.

For those in the MSM bubble I think their risk assessment is a lot like their view of police shootings. If you asked "Man (who watches CNN/MSNBC etc) on the Street" how many unarmed black men are shot by police every year most would put it in the thousands, when the actual number is about a dozen (almost of whom most are actively fighting with police at the time).

Everyone talks about "following science." What we have now is more basic. In terms of risk /problem assessment the vast majority don't even know any facts and can't do math.

Makes me wonder about legal immigrants vs illegal aliens and refugees.

Have to think that the vast majority of legal immigrants want to be here because of the society and want to keep the society as is. Whereas illegal aliens and refugees (i.e. Ilhan Omar) who didn't have to work to earn their way here, I wonder what the ratio is in this group of keep vs change American society. My experience with NextDoor was short and limited. From what I saw, it is basically like any other social media app (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, whatever) where the idea is fine, but leftists ruin the experience and then run off any sane people, so it ends up a cesspool of woke leftists.

I joined and found it interesting in that people were helping one another with finding places in the area for restaurants, schools, maintenance, lots of lost and found pets, etc. But I deleted it and never looked back when people started losing their minds on there once COVID started. Last post I read was some Karen scolding people for not going to Chinese restaurants and accusing people of being Trumpists for blaming the virus on China.
