Quote II

“What I don’t understand is vaccinated people blaming non-vaccinated people because the vaccine that they took to avoid getting the virus didn’t stop them from getting the virus.” Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay Packers QB

Quote IV

“You’re boosting people with [antibodies to fight] the original Wuhan strain vaccine, and the circulating variants are delta and omicron. Your body is kind of primed towards the original strain.” Dr. Amesh Adalja, a senior scholar at the Center for Health Security at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health

Quote V

“There’s just such a love among this congregation. We’ve all known each other so long and we know each other’s foibles,” . “I’ll miss our personality, our laughter and our joy in just being together. And, of course, the faith aspect of sharing that with other like-minded people." Church elder Candace Dannaker

On the sidelines he moved with sheer determination. In the broadcast booth he was a breath of fresh air, entertaining and educational. Good bye Coach. RIP John Madden.

NFL legend John Madden died Tuesday at the age of 85, the league announced in a statement.

"On behalf of the entire NFL family, we extend our condolences to Virginia, Mike, Joe and their families," NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said in a statement. "We all know him as the Hall of Fame coach of the Oakland Raiders and broadcaster who worked for every major network, but more than anything, he was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.

If Dan Bongino or Sean Hannity ever peruse The ONT I hope they answer the following question. What the hell good is the FBI?

Is the Whitmer ‘Kidnapping’ Case About to be Tossed?
At this point, perhaps the Justice Department should pray that the judge rules in favor of the defense and dismisses the case before the FBI is further embarrassed—and exposed.

Don't talk to me about the rank and file. They don't want to rock the boat. And the former rank and file? They don't look much better than the employed crop of FBI agents.

Feds Claim Former FBI Agent, Accomplice Defrauded Woman Out of More Than $700,000

The former FBI agent and his co-conspirator allegedly made fake phone calls to a fake judge to further convince the defrauded woman was on "secret probation."
The former FBI agent and his co-conspirator allegedly made fake phone calls to a fake judge to further convince the defrauded woman was on "secret probation."

For several years, a woman in Granbury was convinced she was on secret probation, and that she had to cover the expenses of a federal law enforcement officer and his partner while they supervised her.

There was no “secret probation," but the Granbury woman, identified only as C.T. in court documents, ended up paying the supposed officer and his partner more than $700,000.

Crime pays. Advertising on Tik Tok doesn't.

A trio of human traffickers were caught after videos of dangerous Channel crossings were found on one of their TikTok accounts, it has been reported.

Mohammed Fiate, 22, from Syria, and two 25-year-old Iraqi Kurds, Sharam Shorsh and Ali Hardin, were jailed in France on Monday for their roles in a £1.1 million smuggling plot.

They helped 545 people enter England illegally via the Channel in a five-week period this summer, according to court evidence reported by local media.

Up to 83 passengers at a time were squeezed onto tiny dinghies, with prosecutors accusing the traffickers of ‘total disregard’ for human life.

Yawn. One moar industry Climate Changing us to death. I believe Sen. Warren speaketh with forked tongue and shit for brains.

Elizabeth Warren Claims Finance Is An Enormous Greenhouse Gas Emitter

Wall Street Is Close to Triggering a Climate Financial Crisis
Warren's nonsensical Tweet parrots the nonsensical Bloomberg article Wall Street Is Close to Triggering a Climate Financial Crisis

A study authored by the Sierra Club and the Center for American Progress shows that eight of the biggest U.S. banks and 10 of its largest asset managers combined to finance an estimated 2 billion tons of carbon dioxide emissions, based on year-end disclosures from 2020, or about 1% less than what Russia produced.

If the financial-services industry was a country, it would rank as the world’s fifth-largest emitter of greenhouse gases.

The report’s authors are urging the Biden administration to take immediate steps to slash the financial sector’s role in global warming, lest it trigger a financial crisis that dwarfs that of 2008.

***SNORT*** A grifter finds out about real life and real life investments.

Colin Kaepernick’s Acquisition Company Loses Lucrative Deal, Raises Doubts Of Ex-Athlete’s ‘Halo Effect’

Former NFL quarterback turned activist Colin Kaepernick lost out on a lucrative business deal with a social justice-driven lender after he refused to promote the business on national television.

The failure of Kaepernick’s special-purpose acquisition company (SPAC) Mission Advancement Corp. to finalize a deal with The Change Company, a lender that prioritizes serving minority borrowers, has sparked questions over how much businesses stand to benefit from partnering with the washed-up athlete, according to The Wall Street Journal.

Our office could charge him. But we won't.

Westchester County, New York District Attorney said Tuesday that sexual harassment allegations against former Governor Andrew Cuomo are ‘credible’ and ‘did occur’ but won’t file charges.

“Although the allegations and witnesses were credible, and the conduct concerning, we cannot pursue criminal charges due to the statutory requirements of the criminal laws of New York,” said District Attorney Mimi Rocah. “This conclusion is unrelated to any possible civil liability which is beyond the scope of a District Attorney’s jurisdiction, which focuses solely on criminal laws.”

I bet if I grabbed old Mimi by the arm, forced her to me and planted a big wet one on her lips I would find myself charged. But then again, I'm just a lowly Cob and not a Scuzzy Career politician.

I'll be honest with you. Aren't I always? Anyway. This is something I might have discussed over lunch hour back in High School if I ever hit it big in business. But that was another lifetime ago. What possessed our Genius Award Winner.

Servotronics CEO resigns after investigation into claims he made employees visit strip clubs
The top executive at Elma manufacturer Servotronics Inc. has resigned following a nearly six-month internal investigation into his conduct.

Kenneth D. Trbovich resigned as president and CEO and was removed as board chairman, the company announced Monday.

While Servotronics' board conducts a search for a permanent replacement, the company's president and CEO roles will continue to be carried out by other personnel, led by Chief Operating Officer James C. Takacs.

The company's board authorized the internal investigation June 8, when Trbovich was put on administrative leave. That disclosure came one day after a then-employee filed a lawsuit in State Supreme Court in Buffalo, alleging that Trbovich forced male employees to visit brothels and strip clubs and "engage" with prostitutes while on business trips paid for by Servotronics and its subsidiaries.

203 Junior, if you're here tonight, thanks for putting me some knowledge on the important "Which Side of the Ship Did The Japanese Put Their Carriers' Islands" question. I had said I thought of the six carriers involved in rhe attack on Pearl Harbor that only one of them had its island on the starboard side, like American carrriers do.

Turns out my reliance on alleged photos of the carriers found on the web was badly misplaced. I finally went to a site that had blueprints of the six ships. Turns out we were both mistaken.

Kaga, Soryu, Ziukaku and Shokaku all had standard starboard-side islands. Akagi and Hiryu sported the odd port-side island.

Anyway, that's tonight's lesson in obscure military trivia.

I once saw the aftermath of that when an adult elk was involved. Fortunately for the two women involved, the car that hit it was a great big luxury sedan, and not some little compact. Even so, the front of the car was a wreck, and there was no way it was driving away from the accident.

The elk broke its legs, and possibly more. Despite that, it managed to get off the road (fortunately) before it collapsed to the ground. The state trooper put it down when he arrived.

Elk are pretty calm along side a highway compared to the whitetail deer we have here. I've driven in areas with elk right by the highway. For the most part they stand and graze.

I once almost hit a black bear that probably went 400# doing 60+ coming down a winding hill that was heavily forested. I still think about that now and again.

Posted by: junior at December 28, 2021 10:47 PM (PTw5h)

The question is why port side island? - the throttle is right-handed and the pilot - if a Kate or other such carrier based two seated front row bomber - is on the left - so right-hand islands provide the best visual for take-off and landing projection - like driving a car. No need to have a port side islands - it would be a visual distraction. The Asians were quite odd in their logical approach to military issues.

I saw a deer jump out in front of the 18-wheeler, then I saw it on the other side, safely across. Couldn't have been much more than a car length between the semi and the deer. ----

Japanese carrier doctrine was that carriers were operated in two-carrier divisions. Carrier Division 1 was Akagi and Kaga. Carrier Division 2 was Soryu and Hiryu. I can't remember the details, but the Japanese came up with an idea that would allow a carrier division two work at a higher operational tempo launching and landing planes. But the theory required having the islands on opposite sides.

Unfortunately for the IJN, physics intervened. It turns out that aircraft on a carrier had a tendency to veer to the port side if the pilot lost control. If you have the island tower in the way, then the plane hits the tower and makes a big mess. If you don't have a tower in the way, then the plane goes over the edge and keeps the flight deck clear. You still have to try and recover the pilot. But he hasn't smashed into anything at high speed, and you don't have debris littering your flight deck and blocking flight operations until it gets cleaned up. This little bit of physics wasn't noted until *after* the Japanese had built the islands on Akagi and Hiryu.

And that's why every single other carrier island since then has been on the starboard side.

275 If you are going to hit a moose with a vehicle, it is safer to hit it at a higher speed than to try to slow down.

BUSTED

The Build Team ran identical cars into a fake rubber moose at two different speeds. The damage from the high speed impact was located higher up on the vehicle and was more severe. It was speculated that hitting a moose at a high speed would only work with a very low car such as an F1 race car. Such a car would be able to take out the legs and clear the area before the moose fell on top of it.

That kind of thing happened a lot - my father was a big US Civil War fan, collected a lot of letters of various figures, and one thing that stood out was how, on both the Federal and Confederate commands, there were Generals who hated their fellow commanders far more than they hated anyone on the other side. It's one of the reasons that many Federal and Confederate Generals became good friends after the war, like Sherman and Joe Johnston. Their real enemies were always on their own side.

Thus, everything onboard an LPD, carrier or any aviation flight deck is right eye oriented.

313 250 In any event, as I noted in the follow-up post, the fact that those two carriers are the only carriers to ever have port-side islands is a neat little bit of trivia just on the odd chance you find a way to impress someone with that knowledge.

Admittedly, if it weren't for his politics, maybe I wouldn't have noticed these things.

It's effective because they know 50%+ of the population is too stupid to actually do the reasoning you have, which shows the booster won't do shit. They also know no one will question them.

I guess they might not by lying though, as a slight improvement over 0% is 1%, which they also call the margin of error. So basically the booster will do nothing, but just the fact that most of those who were in serious risk of covid already died from the first wave, which means even by doing nothing we'll statistically be better off this time.

One of the Stig guys from Top Gear wrote a book about driving and said that although American driving technique was superior the one bad thing was diving on the right because our dominant eye needed to be closest to the approaching traffic. The superior part to American driving technique was that we're taught to keep at least one hand clocked to the wheel such that when we return the hand back the wheel is straight. British drivers are taught to always keep both hands mostly gripping but because of this they kind of walk the hands through steering. The British way was based on high stress emergency vehicle driving studies and apparently was completely irrelevant to daily driving needs. Oops.

----

Not quite.

One fleet carrier - Katsuragi - survived. She was a late war build, and never took on any aircraft. She spent her time in the war huddling under a camo net in the harbor, and hoping she wouldn't be spotted and sunk by American aviators like her sister, Amagi. The battleship Nagato (flagship of the Combined Fleet before Yamato was built) survived the entire war, and spent most of the end of it lurking in port, hoping to not get bombed. She was one of the ships that "participated" in Operation Crossroads.

There were also two or three cruisers at the end of the war. Myoko, for instance, was badly damaged during the Leyte Gulf operation. She returned to Singapore afterwards. But the port couldn't handle the repairs that she needed, so she spent the remainder of the war as a floating anti-aircraft battery. She wasn't the only cruiser like that.

Some of the Japanese battleships, cruisers, and destroyers were sunk in-port very late in the war by aircraft or submarines. I can't recall off the top of my head how many if any heavy and light carriers suffered the same fate. Battleship Nagato either was not sunk or was raised immediately after the war by the US; it was used as a target ship in an atomic bomb test at a Pacific atoll. Sunk.

Might have been 95% effective against the original COVID variant. But that is not circulating anymore. It's most definitely not 95% effective against either delta or omicron variants.

I'm still wondering about SARS-CoV-2 (virus) vs COVID (disease). I've wondered since last summer if it works in the same way as HIV/AIDS. Where you can test positive for HIV, but not have AIDS. Always wondered how there was a test to see if one has a disease (COVID) instead of test to see if one has the virus (SARS-CoV-2). And wondered if it's possible to contract SARS-CoV-2, but have a strong immune system and never become symptomatic and have it cause COVID.

Of course, in most navies, an escort carrier was a scratch conversion of some existing cargo or passenger haulers. Only the US built dozens of them all along the same pattern.

There was a research paper out of Japan that showed that exposure to Human Coronavirus O43 (aka the common cold) gave resistance to COVID.

My guess is that is why it seems most people don't get it when exposed. Also...it does bring up an interesting question as to whether Pfizer and friends knew that when they ran their initial tests. It might explain why their reported data differs so radically from the actual real world data.

393 Country music isn't quite dead. Admittedly - Most modern country music has more of a Pop feel to it. I enjoy it for what it is - I see it as very similar to what Pop music was in the late 70s / early 80s before it became too dance-ish. But there are still some legit Country artists out there.

Darius Rucker has recorded some great country stuff. Also Chris Stapleton and Luke Combs.

In the "Outlaw Country" style, Jason Aldean makes some good music - even though he's kind of a d-head.

410 One of the points often lost in the discussion as to how WWIII would have gone if it started right at the end of WWII is just how dependent the Soviet Union was on American industry by that point.

They had something like 10M soldiers out of a population of 160M people...because America was giving them food, and trucks, and everything else they needed to function. Immediately after the war the Soviets had to send their soldiers back to the farms and factories because they faced total economic collapse when American aid ended.

If WWIII starts in 1945 not only do the Soviets have to conquer the west before more American soldiers arrive - they have to seize the supplies of the present Western armies as well.

Side stick controllers are fine but they need to be active and they must not be allowed to be linear additive between stations. No relation between control angle and stick plus the ability for pilot and copilot to negate each other's input are direct causes of that failure. Almost all carriers and customers are going to want active side sticks going forward.

459 Counting all escort carriers built by the US, a total of 121 were built. But some were not finished until 1946.

Same thing with the Essex class, some were not finished until 1950. Valley Force was one of these.

Then there are the CVBs of the Midway class. All three were commissioned after war with Japan ended.

Yeah Truman didn't seem to be as big a fan of Stalin as FDR, and he'd made changes in the administration, but apparently not enough. If we'd just stood our ground and refused to let them in, we could have pushed the Soviets back to Russia. They would have made a lot of noise and been angry but there was literally no way they could fight.

But instead we let them just gobble up tons of territory around Russia as a "protective barrier" against evil western aggression and millions suffered as a result.

467 ..I've read the right-side stick as in the F-16 Falcon has no precedent and was never copied. Posted by: Zettai at December 28, 2021 11:46 PM (LWVZx)

Command Pilot's position on the Airbus A-320 & 321 has the stick on the left side, throttles are on the traditional quadrant on the center pedestal. Co-Pilot's side has the stick on the right side, a mirror of the left side's layout.

Like the F-16, the Airbus' Fly By Wire system results in a stick that only moves about 1/8th of an inch in any direction, and it's the degree of pressure and rapidity (or slow and deft touch) applied to the stick, that the computers translate as the equivalent movement of many inches of "throw" of a conventional yoke.

Standard WWII fighter plane layout. Throttle on left side, Stick rising from the floor between the pilot's knees. Trim wheel might be damn near anywhere, from one airplane model to the next. P-38 had a half-wheel yoke control, much the same as bomber. And Brit fighters? Mostly an odd combination of control stick (for pitch) and articulated upper half of the stick to control the aerilons. Throttles, like all, were on the left.

I think you underestimate American war weariness. Popular pressure led to hot bunking the troop transports returning from Europe, despite worries in the Army that we shouldn't be drawing down the occupation forces quite so rapidly.

And Churchill was voted out in a landslide on July 25, 1945. Western countries did not have the stomach to fight yet another major war.

482 Groves had promised 3 more Fat Man bombs per month for Sept-Nov, I think. Parts for one were already at Tinian, surplus to needs with the Japanese capitulation. Marshall had planned to ask for 9 for Op Olympic, November (3 per landing area).

Are we doing the silly counterfactual about the USSR in 1945 *again*?? With whose army, Congress, president, AND populace would that have been done? Presumably it would be after Japan was subdued, which would mean shipping forces *back* to Europe, again ..... just in time for ..... fall and winter.

Have noted before, we doubled the draft call in March '45 as part of a "manpower crisis" which was created by the massive demands of the planned Japan operations. There had been rumblings of dismay in Congress and the public since Okinawa, even Iwo Jima in some cases.

All of which leaves aside the tiny detail that there was no reason and no objective for any sudden unprovoked prolongation of the war - and its massive expansion, from our point of view - in attacking the Soviets. Time machines, killing Baby Hitler - this is that kind of thing.

Please go to the website linked below and scroll-down to the annotated cockpit diagram. Please note which side of the cockpit Item 22 is on in a Japanese A6M3 Model 32 Zeke (Hamp, Zero). I doubt the Japanese put throttles in a variety of left and right positions in their combat aircraft. Very poor practice when designing basic and intermediate trainers used before pilots transition to front-line combat aircraft. Also, control sticks and yokes in WW2-era aircraft were all center-mounted to my knowledge.

I'm not defending the wimminz diversity engineerz in FL, but to be fair, that bridge had not yet been assembled with it's full-height tower and suspension cables, when it collapsed. In a nutshell, it wasn't yet completed.

The FAILURE, came from not under-girding the span, once placed, with trusses aligned with the painted lane dividers, until that tower and it's cables could be rigged. It needed support from beneath, UNTIL it could've received support from above. It was a PROCESS failure, far more than a design failure. And traffic should've been prohibited until completion, due to vibration and displacement therefrom.

I'm not going to argue with that. But you have to admit that by the time they entered, it essentially amounted to grabbing as much as they could before the US arrived to say, "No further."

And in fairness, we didn't know that the atomic bombs would have the result that they did.

But I maintain - admittedly with 20/20 hindsight - that bringing the Soviets into the war against Japan was one of the mistakes with the biggest long-term consequences for the post-war decades.

Sure, lots of things can happen.

But this church shows all the signs of not being particularly Christian, let alone Biblical. And the results are inevitable. Why on earth would someone even attend a soulless church with no hope or gospel? For the woke sermon about vague spiritual and specific social justice things? For the aging congregation who goes just because they always have?

Look at the excuses: well everything used to be closed on Sunday, people went to church. We didn't try hard enough to recruit more people.

Nothing about the love of God, nothing about the truth, nothing about the Bible, nothing about hope and love and salvation. Nothing about Jesus but a vague platitude about peace.

522 ..Well, perhaps the process failure arose because the design was such that the elaborate falsework needed to support the partially-built bridge could not be emplaced, due to traffic considerations? Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at December 29, 2021 12:26 AM (P3gRi)

Nah, look at the pics of the pre-collapsed span, as it sat across the lanes. A truss placed along each painted lane divider would be relative child's play. You or me could've designed it on the fly right there, on a legal pad. Or, temporarily eliminate a one lane of the three each-way lanes, and use the extra area for a wider truss footing.

Either way, support from beneath would've sufficed to hold the damn thing up, until the tower was raised and the cables tensioned. Now, how DURABLE the design would be after completion? Who the hell knows, but the Houston Ship Channel "New Bridge" being demolished doesn't give me great hope that the FL bridge would be a long-life structure, either.

Well, my point is, that if the fancy cable-stayed pedestrian bridge required interim support until the the towers could be built, and the cables tensioned, then maybe it was a poor design choice. There are numerous pedestrain overpasses elsewhere in the world, and most of them are simple trusses. And, I daresay, mostly pre-built, and simply lowered onto site-built piers by big cranes, during a brief road closure.

Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at December 29, 2021 12:37 AM (P3gRi)

529 Short version: Doesn't that meant that the design process sucked. A critical design requirement should have been that no traffic closures were allowed until bridge installation was complete and certified.
Posted by: Commissar Hrothgar (hOUT3) - Lie back and think of that sweet graft! ~ at December 29, 2021 12:31 AM (hOUT3)

Crap:

A properly written critical design requirement should have accounted for the total installation process including either a design requirement that NO traffic impediment was allowed (nominally an insane requirement IMHO) or a specified time to complete an installation that WOULD allow the temporary interruption of traffic during the final installation process.
The intersectional design team should never have risked lives by accepting such an ill defined procurement document.

I am out, take care good people!

530 Baseball Cap or "Gimme Cap", + sneakers = BroCountry. Which sucks.

COUNTRY is gonna need some boots, and a proper Stetson or Resistol hat. If it's a suit, it'd better be a Western Cut Suit. No rhinestones required, but accepted per each artists' wishes.

Lesser attire accepted, but boots are always, and if not the aforementioned headgear, than a proper bouffant or pomade as the norm in the '40s and onward, shall do.

And the barest introduction of a mashup of "rap", they're turned over to Uncle Palp to commence digging in the Dignity Canals.

They failed to accurately calculate the stresses in the design stage. The company that reviewed the engineering did not notice the error and oh yes that company was not qualified by the Florida Dept. of Transportation to conduct such a review. In my AO, there is the notorious "Kamikaze Curve", at the junction of three motorways, in a congestion zone, with a sharp curve rounding a steep side hill, a river crossing, and multiple exits, all within a mile or two

It's been revamped many times and it's still horrible!

Some locals drive it as a bypass of the downtown areas, but I avoid it unless I'm heading out all the way through on one of the motorways and have no other real choice

I was just reading something fascinating, something I'd never heard of before. It's called the "dollar auction" from game theory (someone I was reading used this to try to explain some of the irrational behavior we're seeing).

It goes like this. You offer to auction off a dollar, with a minimum bid of 1 cent. The winner gets the dollar, but the rules are the second highest bidder has to pay his bid and get nothing in return.

I think you can see where that will go. The bid price for the dollar goes way over a dollar, as everyone is scrambling not to lose. It's an example of the only way to win is not to play.

Demolishing what's been built so far of the Houston Ship Channel "New Bridge", is going to add $250 million to the already going $1 billion cost of the project.

Given that it's the same design team as the Florida Fiasco who designed what's built so far, I'm gonna call that demolition a bargain at twice the price.

I have to drive the Old Bridge, often enough. You do have to pay attention on the crossing.

600 Whoever beat the living fuck out of that twisted old fruit gets to walk proud for the rest of his life. I'd give one of my pinkies to be that guy.

603 602: The now dead Harry Reid reference I believe.

Harry Reid. He tried to claim it was an exercise band. But it was pretty obvious somebody (I'm guessing one of his Vegas mob cronies) worked him over but good.

606 Oh, the fucking hyena. Exercise straps indeed!

Pssssst: Moronic is an actual highly transmissible live attenuated virus vaccine that actually works.

Seeing some data showing Moronic infection gives immunity to all other variants.

I do not rule out divine intervention. For some reason, He saw fit to save us from our folly, and tweaked things so the escape mutant that emerged was basically a cold, and an effective vaccine.

608 Brutally, manually beating down a US Senator is so cool. Definite "bucket list" material.

I mean homonym sounds like something you'd use if you were fly fishing.

"Yeah, tie a #10 homonym on the line just before dusk, son."

But homophone?

"I got tired of listening to his music so I tossed his homophone into the trout stream.''

610 >> Brutally, manually beating down a US Senator is so cool.

Been there, done that. You see the trick is to break them, and then be their savior. You own 'em for life.

There is no greater high than a US Senator groveling before you.

You gotta love Japan. They are now forcing all vaccines to have myocarditis and other side effect warnings. They are requiring "informed consent". All patients must be informed of all the side effects and other "experimental only" information before receiving the jab.

They are decreeing that no one will be forced or coerced to have the jab, and there will be absolutely no discrimination against those who decline.

I'm kind of enjoying the hell out of the fact that all of the Karens who raced to get the jab in this country and who virtue signal by boycotting GMO (genetically modified organism) products are now 100% GMO themselves.
