Sunday Food Thread: The Battle of the Sexes & Toaster Ovens

Toaster Oven.JPG

Are you pro-toaster oven or anti-toaster oven? I only recently learned that there seems to be a fault line when it comes to toaster ovens – guys love them and women don’t understand them.

A toaster oven, along with one favorite skillet, are the kitchen items I use the most, pretty much on a daily basis. When my wife and I were married about two decades ago and started setting up house together, there were many negotiations discussions and compromises to be made. One of these was allocation of the real estate atop the kitchen counter. I had three non-negotiable must-haves because I use them every day – a coffee pot, a coffee grinder, and a toaster oven. She felt that this was probably one item too many, but because she loved me, she acquiesced.

But my wife to this day is still puzzled by the toaster oven – she lovingly calls it my “easy bake oven” – and she rarely uses it.

At a recent gathering I found myself chatting with four couples – our ages ranged from early 30s to late 50s – and the topic of toaster ovens somehow came up. For every couple, the guys were passionate about toaster ovens and the women had little use for them. In fact, like my wife, they were genuinely puzzled about the guys’ passion about toaster ovens. One of these women also called her husband’s toaster oven an “easy bake oven.”

Every woman expressed these sentiments about toaster ovens, all valid points:

- They’re clunky and take up valuable counter space.
- They’re redundant, there’s already an oven in the kitchen. (One of the women stated, “We have a double oven built into the wall and he refuses to use either one of them!”
- A regular toaster could be used for toasting, then it could easily be put back in the cupboard.
- Why are guys using a toaster oven to re-heat food when there’s a built-in microwave?
- The microwave also takes a fraction of the time to re-heat food compared to a toaster oven.

Every single guy countered with these points:

- Toaster ovens heat up in a fraction of the time of regular ovens.
- Toaster ovens use less energy than regular ovens ($$$) and they dump less heat into the kitchen that must then be cooled by the air conditioner. Again, less energy used.
- Food re-heated in the toaster oven is far superior to food re-heated in the microwave.
- There is food for which you’ll use a toaster oven that you wouldn’t use the big oven (for instance a couple slices of garlic bread, or one salmon fillet, etc.)

Is this small sample of couples representative of the greater population? Please tell me that some of you ladies like toaster ovens as much as we guys do.

Also, open Food Thread. Maple syrup may be used with French Toast today.

3 So, the women were right about the toaster ovens...

But women tend to always be right about matters of the kitchen...especially when it comes to space that's actually available...

4 Reported yesterday but good to say here,
My aunt made cole slaw but instead used Vidalia Onion salad dressing, different and good, would like it again.

5 Toaster ovens are efficient, cost-saving devices that aren't usually all that aesthetically pleasing. And guys love to use them. Thus, women hate them.

7 I agree with everything you said about toaster ovens, Buck, and we fall along the same lines here although I will occasionally use it.

But here's the solution - I found one that will fit in the cabinet that the toaster used to live in before it died. So it's not taking up counter space.

Neither is the coffee grinder. It lives in the cabinet with the mugs.

Posted by: bluebell at December 26, 2021 04:06 PM (wyw4S)

8 The counter point to pretty much all of your counter points is: use the broiler in your regular oven.

And cook outside on a grill during summer if you're worried about A/C bills.

Posted by: Sjg at December 26, 2021 04:07 PM (gDSJf)

9 To add - the non-negotiable list is funny to me, b/c I don't have any of them in my kitchen, and haven't since Keurig came out...we used to have the 1st 2 for my spouse, but Keurig solved that space and cleaning problem...and the toaster oven - ha! That was never here! Toasters toast bread better, and the oven sits there to rewarm anything the microwave might mess up...

Townhome kitchens mean you prioritize what you have...

10 I used to have a love/hate relationship with my toaster oven. Then I bought one with a door that rolls up over the top (as opposed to pull down to open door). Now I love my toaster oven. No more dirty door, no more burning myself.

14 Of course, our toaster never caught on fire. I can't say that about the first toaster oven we had.

Nothing like hearing your son bang on the door while you're in the shower and hearing him yell that the toaster oven is on fire but don't worry, his brother is firing off the fire extinguisher.

17 My ever-indulgent wife *loves* our toaster oven.
However,
1) She is *not* a cook. I've taught her to make several things over the years and most of what she make, she makes well.
2) Our toaster oven lives in the pantry, hanging under a shelf out of the way and taking no counter space.

I wonder if the dividing line is whether or not you learned to cook using a regular oven.

18 I was introduced to toaster ovens by an early convert: my mother.

19 There are microwave/toaster combos. I think there are even some that add a mini convection oven to the mix. But as people have mentioned, that's a lot of things to go wrong in a single appliance. It might save you counter space if you needed all three though.

Posted by: banana Dream at December 26, 2021 04:10 PM (SsMRU)

20 And I agree with everything the "guys" said about the toaster oven.

Definitely heats some items much better. And I like it better for toast because I can see how dark the bread is.

26 I think the bigger dividing line is if you came from a big family or have one now, b/c they are next to useful if you have more than 4 people to feed...you'll be burning yourself and/or waiting forever to make things happen if you're stuck using the "2 person food max" at a time device...

It's probably why as a kid, my parents never had one for the 8 of us, but when my mom was alive and a widow, she finally bought one and used it b/c she only needed to feed one person...

27 Never knew that opinions re toaster ovens were divided along gender lines. That must be why I, a female, relies heavily on my toaster oven and one favorite skillet. Yes, I have double ovens - those are for cookies and larger items, such as casseroles and turkeys!
Thanks for making us smile today.

28 How useful are toaster ovens? If you live in a location with really hot weather in the summer and your condo is old with really crap AC and using your oven causes your place to heat up. A toaster oven though, works nicely and it won't roast you out of your condo with crap AC.

31 I'm a single guy, and I've never used a toaster oven. I didn't even know that they existed until I was around 20.

Though even if I were inclined to use one, I wouldn't in my current apartment. I simply don't have the counter space. My microwave (which is pretty much required in this day and age) takes up almost half of my counter space. What little I have left is barely big enough for proper food preparation (and sometimes not even then).

32 I Love toaster ovens.

I used to have a Toshiba that was a combination convection/toaster unit. I left it behind in a cross-country movie, and wish I hadn't.

I even cooked a turkey breast in that thing one time when the regular oven was on the fritz. It came out great.

40 We had a toaster oven when we first moved into our house and didn't have a working oven. We LOVED it! We put it on a shelf above the counter, so it didn't take up any precious counter space ( we live in a 100+ year old house, so our kitchen is quite small).

Even after we got a working stove/oven, we would use the toaster oven.

Unfortunately, one day it quit working, and we decided not to replace it. Now that the kids are all grown up, I've been thinking about getting another one - they are quite convenient!

41 I'm thinking of trashing the toaster oven. I never use it. Its too small to server as a backup in case of lack of regular oven space; hardly any pan will fit in it. And the house has just a small galley style kitchen so counter space is limited.

45 I love the toaster oven! Of course, we have an abundance of counter space, so that's not an issue (we've got a fryer back in the corner, and a tea maker as well as a coffee maker). Cooth gave me a tip when we were planning the construction: make the counters 3 1/2" deeper (the width of a two-by-four). You'd be amazed what that extra space does for the counters!

We made the mistake of getting an over-the-stove microwave. We should have ordered a proper range hood.

Now, back to the benefits of a toaster oven. We like garlic bread, and we buy the frozen kind. That's not a microwave thing. We used to heat up the big oven to 425F (at least 10 minutes), just to bake the garlic bread for 7 minutes. The toaster oven is a no-brainer for that.

Microwaves take the crisp out of everything. Like leftover pizza, or anything else crispy.

51 One appliance that I love that uses up space even though replaces other conventional things is an instapot. I use it for a lot of things. I start the sauteing in there, I can deglaze in there, and I can slow cook or pressure cook and finish a sauce in there at the end. It's big and I have little counter/cabinet space but I've made room because it's so useful.

52 PRO toaster oven
When I prepare meals, I almost always make enough for 2-3 days ... Day One is for cooking, then on Days Two and Three (not necessarily sequential) I can just reheat leftovers in the toaster oven while spending my time and thoughts on non-kitchen -- and often away-from-the-house -- activities. Having the toaster oven is also a blessing when my two main ovens are being utilized to bake Holiday cookies, breads, etc.

55 I'm a single 60-year old woman and I have TWO toaster ovens. Plus a gas range.

Food warmed up in a toaster oven tastes better than food warmed up in a microwave. Microwaves are great for boiling water. And Stouffer's frozen foods.

I use my bigger toaster oven for whole pizzas and bread that will burn in the little toaster oven. The small one, French bread is too thick and gets too close to the top burner and the top burns before the whole thing can toast.

Same for taco shells. Burn on the tip tops in the small toaster oven, but Perfect in the big toaster oven! And mine is an Oster, I think, with French doors on it.

And the Oster is too small to cook decent-sized birds, and roasts, so the oven does that.

The toaster oven is great, for all the reasons Buck states. My wife falls in with most of the women on their list, however she loves toasting bread in the toaster oven. She doesn't like to turn bread over mid-toast; for some reason, the elements don't cook both sides of bread evenly. That said, she likes the toaster oven.

I'm trying to get her to buy an instapot, or a desktop convection oven, but no dice on those items. She's a hard 'no'.

68 I bought a cheap, unreliable toaster oven several years ago. Despite how crappy it was it was indispensable. A few years ago I replaced it with a Breville Smart Oven Air, which may have been going overboard, but I use it a lot.

It heats up more quickly than the big oven. It’s great for making small batches, for having two ovens going simultaneously, for reheating food far better than the microwave, and for keeping food warm. I’ve even used it for slow cooking, although not often.

69 Good afternoon, horde!

I am in favor of toaster ovens, for many of Buck's stated reasons. I would also add that it's easier to get certain items out of a toaster oven than a regular toaster. Bagels, for instance, or short slices of sourdough bread.

They do use valuable countertop space, but less so if you ditch the regular toaster.

Well stay warm! I love your state and wish I had settled there after college. Had to travel to Boulder quite a bit for work at one time - just amazing place. California is/was great but great weather and occasionally rubbing elbows with celebrities in the food store or restaurant only gets you so far.

74 I have neither a microwave, a toaster oven nor a toaster.
I have a mini stove with a teeny oven.

I do have a tiny one button rice cooker that's 25 years old and a keurig. And my kitchen aid. That's about it for kitchen gadgets.

Oh and an immersion blender.

75 Au contraire, mon frere. (That's French, I think.) I replaced my antique toaster with a toaster oven during the Covidicy. It fits with room to spare in a lower cupboard, has an air-fryer mode, and makes everything crisper than the gas oven.

82 We lived in a garage "loft" while remodeling our home for almost a year. We had a Breville Toaster Oven and an induction hot plate. I fell in love with both. I loved the toaster oven so much, we redesigned the new kitchen to create counter space for it. I make meat loaf, broiled or baked chops, lasagna, oven fried chicken - you name it. I use the "big oven" about 4 times year now. We upgraded to a Breville with an Air Fryer setting and a dehydrator. I do have to adjust the temp down about 5 degrees on regular recipes - It has come to be know as the "magic box" - it makes the best bacon- crispy - in about 15 minutes - an clean ups a "snap" - other than hubbys grill - it's hands down my favorite appliance.

Small frozen pizza's seem to be limited to certain brands. Digiorno Pizza is found nearly everywhere. It's fine. Screamin' Sicilian pizza is ok too. Red Baron pizza's are ok. I've bought store brand (Giant) frozen pizza and it's hit and miss. Why yes, I am single. How can you tell?

85 We have a nice toaster oven, but never use it because counter space in our 1900 built kitchen is virtually nonexistent. All of our small appliances except for coffee maker are hidden in other places. For some reason or another, we never dig it out from wherever it is.

My mother-in-law and her sister used theirs all the time, so it is not a female/male issue. When they moved into an assisted living unit, the company had installed microwaves in every unit because it was afraid of the old people and their toaster ovens setting the whole place on fire. Neither my mother-in-law or her sister ever figured out how to use the microwave.

101 My fiancé and I have been having this argument. I use an airfryer/toaster oven basically daily, but I also have a regular toaster oven because it has a rotisserie. She's never used a rotisserie, but roasts on a rotisserie = awesome. We've done the 'full oven vs toaster oven' thing already - with almost the exact same arguments mentioned.
Also, the best way to reheat food is in the airfryer. 3-5 minutes (or enough to get it hot all the way through) on 400 depending on size and thickness, and it'll taste like it was fresh - fried foods in particular (leftover fries, anyone?), but I use it for biscuits all the time as well.

157 Pro-toaster oven for many of the reasons already stated upthread. I just got a new one for my birthday--a roll-top, so the door doesn't take up counter space when it's open, and I won't be likely to burn myself when I'm making toasted ham and cheese sandwiches. It is much better for reheating things I want to be crisp than the microwave is or for warming bread that I don't want toasted, and it's easier to bake a single serving of biscuits or waffle fries in the toaster oven than in the big oven. Haven't used my regular toaster in years.

161 The only other problems is you can't cook a full size turkey in it so we have had turkey pieces. We had a chicken breast stuffed with cheese and peppers cooked in it and it was very good and the air fry made it nice and brown on top.

If you have the storage space, those big counter-top turkey roasters are fantastic for cooking a bird. They have the heater control, and are more enclosed than an oven, so they don't dry the turkey out. I borrowed one once for Thanksgiving because I needed the oven to cook pies and sides. It really impressed me

I suspect you could use it for anything like stews or roasts. I do a number of dishes that are simmered and steamed for a long time, like puddings, and that would be useful. On the other hand I am sure there are lots of possible uses. Have you ever needed to cook 3 gallons of macaroni and cheese for example? I haven't but I know what I would do if I did!!

The broiler in my regular oven is a wimpy, vestigial thing that could not put a proper crust on a piece of meat to save its life.

However, I do not own a toaster oven. Haven't for years. They used to be terrible. I guess they're much better now.

Instead, I got a propane-fired outdoor broiler. All the heat I want, and then some.

My microwave has a 'Bake' function which I find convenient. Just tonight I had prepared mashed potatoes, yams, gravy, and stuffing beforehand. I can put pots - just about anything and keep things set to around 200 degrees for half an hour or so before serving.

No sparks, no drama. Just a resistance coil in the thing that keeps everything toasty.

I wrap leftover meat in foil, add an ice cube and put it in the toaster oven on "low" then raise the temp until it's hot enough.

Love, love, love cooking and baking small batch items in it (8 muffin tin). We use it to make individual pizzas -- I just put the bow of dough in the fridge and hubby and teen son can throw one in whenever they get the craving, Teen son especially loves reheating leftovers and frozen food items in it at midnight or later when he gets hungry (which is always). Much more useful than a microwave.

243 Made Christmas fried rice to go with the other leftovers from Christmas Eve and Christmas. This also involved "clean out the fridge of veg so I can shop tomorrow". Who knew that bean sprouts, cilantro and ham with the normal green onions, carrots, garlic, eggs and normal seasonings (soy, hoisin, oyster, sesame oil/seed, garlic, vegan butter, hot sauce, s&p, etc) with the leftover white rice containers would work so well. I now have none left, but still have some Chinese and ham...

Sprinkle with garlic powder.
Bake on foil lined cookie sheet, turn, cook till crispy.

Our stove (Frigidaire some model) has a convection oven. It has "convection bake, roast" settings plus an air fry setting. I'm not sure of the differences between them, as basically, it's just the fan blowing hot air.

There are probably some minor differences in operation between those modes, but I'm not sure of it.

277 When our toaster over bought the farm after 20 years we discussed whether to replace it or get a regular toaster. We decided on a 4 slice toaster but it was a near thing and not divided by gender. But it's just the two of us so a smaller oven actually makes some sense.

I'm not sure what we'll do when the microwave, also ancient, gives up the ghost. Most reheating can be down on the stovetop but a small oven has a lot of uses for us.

No, once you put batter on it to fry, it becomes a fritter.

Let's be realistic here, toast is not just any breadstuff subject to Maillard browning, just as croutons are not really garlic toast; French toast is neither French, nor toast, but it is essential for a Monte Cristo.

Posted by: Kindltot at December 26, 2021 06:08 PM (ZMraq)

313 The net loss in counter space by going from a toaster to a toaster oven is negligible compared to the gain of functionality.

A regular toaster is decent only for toast, and only one type of toast at that. It's not even the best at toasting.

Definitely love my Breville.

Posted by: Bitter Clinger at December 26, 2021 06:08 PM (5We2S)

314 There is currently a toaster oven sitting on the counter at Casa de GGE. It replaces a toaster that once sat there, and it was brought in by Mrs Hades. I had not ever owned a toaster oven and had never had one in the kitchen up to that point. Her reasons for having it were right along with the list above.

It is interesting to note that she got the toaster oven when she was living alone in her small apartment before we met. I would hazard a guess to say that the guys who are fond of their toaster ovens likewise obtained them when they were living alone in a small apartment. 316 (female here) I lived for years in places with no proper kitchen, so I've baked all sorts of things in a glorified toaster oven. Bread, cake, brownies, cookies, chicken. As long as it has temperature settings. And once I got a bigger oven, I missed how quickly the toaster heated up.
Toaster oven was easier and faster than the rice cooker which I had been using for cakes and brownies!
The basic toaster only does one thing. And in a toaster oven it's easier to see how dark the bread is getting,so it does that one thing better.

318 I'm a woman and I love my toaster oven. I use it close to daily for toast (regular, garlic, or cinnamon), toasted sandwiches, reheat pizza, reheat breaded chicken, reheat burger, etc. Microwaves just make everything soggy, and it's silly to heat up the entire oven for one slice of pizza. (When all four of us are having leftover pizza, I do use the oven.)

We recently had to get a new toaster oven. I kind of wanted a particular really fancy one that had an air fryer setting and even had a pizza stone (I like to make little personal pizzas for myself), but it was way too spendy, so I got a cheapie one. It's pretty small but still accommodates our needs. When we replace that one, we'll probably go back up a size.

323 Several months ago we got the smaller Stargazer cast iron skillet and I'm in love. It doesn't have the bumpy surface newer Lodge pans have. After a couple of seasoning sessions, I can use the Stargazer like non-stick. Eggs slide around and cleaning is easy. Our Christmas gift to ourselves was to order the bigger size skillet.

After doing some research, I'm going to try sanding a piece of Lodge cast iron to get a smoother surface and re-season it. Just requires a palm sander and a few grits of sanding disks.

324 It might be apocryphal, but I heard an interesting story about how the Santa tracker began. Apparently, back in the 50s, some company (Radio Shack, maybe?) accidentally published an ad with a misprint that instructed local moppets to call Santa at a number that actually that actually rang through to some big, swinging dick at NORAD. After the initial moment of panic where he thought he was about to be instructed to extinguish humanity on Christmas, he figured out the score, and he started the Santa tracker tradition.

337 My air fryer has replaced my toaster oven.

And I do have a built in MW oven and a regular gas oven (can't stand electric).

Air fryer cooks faster than a toaster oven and like the label says will fry (sort of) frozen food that is made for them and come out like they've been fried but with less grease, danger and tending them while they cook stuff. I see when searching for other stuff that people have used them in ways I would not have suspected. On stuff I wouldn't have thought to use it for. Can't remember exactly what right now.

My next thing is an electric tea pot. (just boils water) I've putting stuff in my den so I don't have to go back and forth to the kitchen. I spend most of my time there so the heat is down everywhere else. (brrrr) While getting stuff to eat or drink. If I had room I'd put a small refrigerator in the den too. I've got one but it makes too much noise and doesn't freeze stuff.

340 I was sold on a toaster oven 50 years ago when the cook I was working with made these really good finger food things: a green olive wrapped in a slice of cheese on a cracker. Bake until the cheese just melts and surrounds the olive. Excellent!

I got some other stuff too for the countertop. (and I'm sure I've got less room than anyone else) I got an ice maker. (it's clogged up right now I need to get to that) It doesn't freeze them solid and there's no freezer storage so they form ice shapes and if you don't use them they melt and once the water is back up it will refreeze some more. I like it because my refridge ice maker uses galvanized metal that is affected by my water and tastes terrible.

The guy says "Wow! You're kidding me!"

The dealer replies "yeah, well, you started it."

397 Have you tried any of the fermented meats? That's my next project, I think... once I get all this venison ground and turned into summer sausage.

Btw, the link goes to bags you put the meat in and dry in your fridge. No need for drying contraption.

Posted by: megthered at December 26, 2021 06:39 PM (sfWd9)

Surely one of the college towns has a deli with bagels?

I can't imaging there not being any bagels in Texas.

Worst comes to worst order them from Walmart or Amazon. Don't know how far they are so not how fresh they might be.

I'm trying some snack cakes from Amazon. See how much of a mess they come in. I figure with winter they won't be melted, *knock on wood* but they may get stepped on or tossed. Or put with heavy items.

What the Hell happened? Back in the day, I met a girl at church. Went on a date and said "you want to make love?"

Now, she is in Heaven. Dating now involves politics and COVID and shit. I long for the old days..

I've found that when we long for the good ol' days what we're really missing is our youth and not knowing what the future held and making of it what we could.

Remember the past, prepare for the future but live in the present.

And always, always, HAVE FUN!! don't let it matter who you are with or not.

409 Re: good brands of frozen pizza, I just ask the kitchen of our favorite pizza place to take our pizza out of the oven a few minutes early, take it home and freeze it in freezer type baggies. When you'd like a couple of pieces of pizza just take 2 out of the baggie and place them, frozen, directly on the rack in a toaster oven at 350degrees ( I have a 10 year old Breville) for 5 minutes or so. Tastes like just made.

410 Late to the thread, but I like toaster ovens for crisping up cold pizza. A microwave will give you a quick reanimation of said 'za, but too long and the cheese is molten rubber and the bread is hard.

Ditto bagels with toppings.

There you go. Now do what you know she'd want you to do. Not worrying about the past. She knows you love her. Now go meet other people and/or do other things. Your life isn't over for whatever reason. If you find no reason then make one. If you see a reason then get busy. Or just relax and enjoy some time off.

415 Unless you're used to it, Christmas can be a tricky time of the year emotions wise.

It goes with the weather and the less Sun and everyone else seems to be having fun. Well you can enjoy yourself. It's not impossible and it's not insulting to someone's memory.

I admit these days are weird and scary but that's all the more reason to stand up, be strong and be prepared.

417 Emeril's air fryer for the win! Does that count as a toaster oven? My husband wanted one, I did the "but counter space" argument, but he eventually prevailed. He was right it is much more convenient for a pair of empty nesters. Now if we are feeding the clan or baking, that's where the regular oven shines.

Posted by: Inisfree at December 26, 2021 07:50 PM (JvFhS)

418 Women do not have an instinctive feel for physics. The power drain and heat load, plus longer heating cycle of the oven makes no logical sense for small items.

419 Sorry for being late chiming in on the toaster oven debate. I was baking cinnamon rolls in my new Ninja air fryer/toaster oven.

I'm female and I LOVE the dang thing. Can't see myself using the the big oven ever again except maybe for something really big like a turkey.

New breeds of toaster ovens are really good.

Other plus: toaster ovens are so much easier to keep clean than he biggens.

Yup. The toaster over is retrograde boomer nostalgia. Get with it people. Air fryers are the wave of the future. My Blackstone has two air fryers below the deck. Much larger than the ninjas and big enough for large clans.

423 Wife and I both love our toaster oven. She sold it to me and I grew to love it. Our built in microwave died about three years ago and we never bothered to replace it. If hangs there over the stove, useless, only because to remove it look awful without a hood or new cabinets.

Posted by: Scansy at December 26, 2021 09:23 PM (nIBBl)

424 Late addition:

You can run a toaster oven off a small inverter generator. It's portable to places that don't have ovens (or don't have working ovens).

My wife LOVES our toaster oven for those reasons. Anyone who says "but you have a regular oven" has lived in a first world bubble.

425 My wife is the one who insisted we GET a toaster oven and insists on using on just about anything that'll fit into it. (I grew up using a range-top for just about anything people use a microwave or a toaster oven for.)

427 Actual woman, I have the opposite issue. My husband doesn't use the toaster oven as much as I. I like it better than the microwave, as it gives that lovely toasty crust to many food (microwave leaves them mushy).
Less use of energy, doesn't require getting all the pans out of it (husband stores unused pans in the stove.
Best used for those one-person meals.

428 I bought our toaster oven, but my wife uses it more than I do. She can make perfect toast in it, which I really can't do. Mine is always a lot darker on one side or the other. (Oddly, it's not always the top or the bottom that's darker, they seem to switch randomly.)

I do, however, sometimes use it to bake or reheat things. It's excellent for making half a dozen cookies from frozen cookie dough, so you can mix up a batch of cookie dough and have every cookie hot and fresh from the oven.

Posted by: DavidD at December 27, 2021 08:51 AM (fLo5M)

429 We have a toaster oven, a toaster, a regular oven, and a microwave. Each has its purpose. My husband and I agree that each does certain things better. A few examples. Toaster oven: open face grilled cheese, melted cheese and pickled jalapenos on tostito rounds. Toaster: toast. Oven: baking, roasts, etc. Microwave: quick reheating of small portions (that don't need to be crisp), heating soup, melting butter or chocolate for recipes.

430 I use my Cosori 12 in 1 at least once every day. Defrosting, air frying, toasting, etc. It's amazing, and, for someone with a lifetime of back issues, I do not have to bend over to use!!!! This is my 4th toaster oven, and by far the best!!!!

Posted by: El Cheepo Gooseman at December 27, 2021 10:29 AM (lOj/m)

431 Sounds to me like you and your friends are a bunch of guys who don't know how to use the microwave correctly. I can microwave a potato and have it with the texture, even warmth, and crinkly skin of an oven-baked potato. What would I need a toaster oven for, then?

The one guy I know who has a toaster oven is a pretentious New York liberal.
