Well, daughter was in NY visiting Son-in-Law's family, and, yes, eel was one of the seven "fish" offered. (I was fine tonight without that.)
His Dad was from Sicily, and his Mom was ... um, somewhere on the mainland that was, how do you say, not really the same tribe. Neither of their families approved. Fortunately, they moved to America, and we ended up with a great son-in-law.

Re: Putting kids toys together at Christmas.
Every toy that I had to put together, such as a multi piece kitchen, I would jot the date and amount of time it took to put together somewhere on the toy. Fast forward and the grandkids are using some of those toys and reading the date and time on them reminds me of the hours I spent in the middle of the night making sure my daughter had a special Christmas.

Another great breakfast casserole recipe I have includes eggs, breakfast sausage, shredded potatoes, diced peppers / onions, and cheese. We usually make it for NYD. Great for soaking up the alcohol left in your tummy from NYE

I am kinda with you on this one, although I will eat most of them to be polite. I just don't like my food all mixed up together, as a rule...except for soup.
I do make two casseroles, though; hash brown casserole ( or funeral potatoes, or Cracker Barrel casserole) and summer squash casserole, which is basically just crook-neck squash, Ritz crackers, butter, and cheese.
Oh, and sweet potato casserole, which All Hail Eris contributed to the Deplorable Gourmet. Spicy, creamy deliciousness, I promise you! Just cream and chipotle and sweet potatoes, very savory.

Yes, many (most? just about all?) Chinese restaurants in the U.S. are open on Christmas. I walked by my local 'China King', across the parking lot from the local cheap motel (Howard Johnson) today, and they had a sign on the door saying just that - New Year's too. If you're not Christian, or not religious at all, it's a good day to make some money feeding Jews, Muslims, Hindus, Satanists, and other locals with unChristmasy attitudes. None of the other restaurants will be open.

12/26 is always Slow Pot Tater Tot day. Layer of tots, layer of beef or venison, layer of cheese, layer of onions and bacon, repeat until pot is 2/3 full. Cook on low for about 8 hours.

Why? The human brain is designed to figure out patterns. When you read? You don't spell out the word, you not the pattern. When you see someone? You don't key in on minor things, but see the pattern of their whole face to recognize them.
More,? I built a career as a Systems Analyst Tech guy. Someone who could not only see the pattern, but see where it failed. I'm seeing a pattern here.

Yup. Son is on his own. Parents have died. Daughter committed suicide because (IMO) part of the gay culture.
