Christmas Cheer — ONT WTF (@OntWtf) December 24, 2021 Maybe Only Of Interest To Marylanders Phillips Crab House Closes in Ocean City After 66 Years Phillips wasn't the only crab house in OC, and it certainly wasn't the best place to eat crabs, but it was the most iconic, and it was pretty hard to resist dropping in for a meal when you're downy oshun. A Smart Military Blog Biden Bans Conservatives and Christians from the Military We're not qute there yet, but this is exactly how they will do it. Greenfield is spot on in his analysis of the endgame here. The purge goes even further, reaching out to punish anyone who engages “in electronic and cyber activities regarding extremist activities, or groups that support extremist activities – including posting, liking, sharing, re-tweeting, or otherwise distributing content”. A service member who “likes” a Facebook post from a conservative group is now an “active participant” in “extremist activities”. You might claim that the article is making pie-in-the-sky projections based upon a paranoid mindset, but I ask anyone who hasn't been under a rock for the past century if this is not exactly how the left always advances its agenda. You're a fool if you don't see where this is going. Question Of The Day I've been listening to Christmas music for the past few weeks. I enjoy it as part of the ritual of getting into the spirit of the season. I'm sure many of y'all have been doing the same. However, no matter how much you like Christmas music, there's always that one song. You know the one I mean, that damned song. That one Christmas song that you absolutely hate. Now, I'm not very hard on Christmas music. I actually like The Little Drummer Boy, and can abide Dominic The Donkey, at least the first 3-4 times I hear it. The Red Shoes is putrid, but it usually gets a eye roll and station change rather than something more drastic. But there's one song, one damned song that I hate more than all the others. Listening to Scandinavian death metal puts me in more of a Christmas mood than this song. Marshmallow World Ugh! I'm in a bad mood just from typing it. So, what's yours? It's kind of weird that the police gave her a hundred bucks, but she deserves it. Musical Interlude Ave Maria sung in a stairwell sends shivers DEAR AMERICAN PEOPLE, DEAR FRIENDS, for two years now, a global coup has been carried out all over the world, planned for some time by an elite group of conspirators enslaved to the interests of international high finance. This coup was made possible by an emergency pandemic that is based on the premise of a virus that has a mortality rate almost analogous to that of any other seasonal flu virus, on the delegitimization and prohibition of effective treatments, and on the distribution of an experimental gene serum which is obviously ineffective, and which also clearly carries with it the danger of serious and even lethal side effects. We all know how much the mainstream media has contributed to supporting the insane pandemic narrative, the interests that are at stake, and the goals of these groups of power: reducing the world population, making those who survive chronically ill, and imposing forms of control that violate the fundamental rights and natural liberties of citizens. And yet, two years after this grotesque farce started, which has claimed more victims than a war and destroyed the social fabric, national economies, and the very foundations of the rule of law, nothing has changed in the policies of Nations and their response to the so-called pandemic.I don't know a thing about Archbishop Vigano, and the source is GP, but it's an interesting letter. A Leftist Becomes Disillusioned The Turn I don't know if I'd have any common ground with this guy on policy, I suspect not. Even leftists who are disillusioned with this particular iteration of leftist government often can't get away from the idea that “some other” all controlling entity would be a good thing that would lead us all to Utopia, but I suspect that we could have an honest conversation about it. And that's a start. And hey, some times hardcore leftists do come to realize the eror of their ways and embrace the light, see Sowell, Thomas. Related: What's Happening Now, as any good cult does, these Communists have an eschatology, or end-times mythology. This mythology is based in alchemy, and the belief that just as there is a seed of gold under the nugget of lead there is, too, a perfect world under the bad one. They believe that by stripping away the bad world that they will reveal this utopia. They, being structural determinists (believing people do not have agency or free will, but are simply products of their culture), believe that by tearing down the pillars of society (believing they are a dam holding back utopia) they will collapse the bad world into the good one. All of the destruction you now see, and cannot comprehend, is being done on purpose. It is an attempt to end the (bad) world.Related, Part II: NYT wonders: Say, why aren't deep-blue states progressive Utopias? Like Father, Like Son

Evening Horde. Mrs IMG and I are spreading Christmas out at a manageable pace this year.
Tonight was SIL and Grandson the Elder. Only half an hour searching for a stocking-stuffer level gift for SIL that Mrs misplaced. Turned out, she didn't misplace it. She mis-tagged it for GStE. Heh. Had a joyous evening. GStE is 11 now and not as cuddly as when he was much younger and Mrs IMG misses that. She grudgingly admits he's now (well, 90%) in the hands of the men folk now. Tomorrow is with her sister and my BIL. So, I have a grocer run at dawn scheduled. Christmas is with Son and his Lady. He's smoking cornish game hens and I am smoking a leg of lamb. He's 45 min away, so I'll finish it there. The ladies are handling the sides. Next week, taking my Mom out for a nice dinner (before Mrs IMG's surgery on Thur). Next Fri is a veg out on bourbon day for me. Don't worry, I'll put her pain med doses in ziploc bags beforehand. Merry Christmas, all you miscreants and reprobates!!!! A bunch of years ago, when the Feds mandated the analog to digital TV signal conversions, I started getting the Korean Broadcasting System station and along with it an introduction to K-Pop music. One of the things that registered with me was that the KBS broadcasts seemed to include the word "Christmas" a lot more than out American stations. So here's a quick dose of Happy K-Pop Christmas. 28 As Iowahawk put it, if you make $70 million a year, the best state to live in is California. If you make $70,000 a year, the best state to live in is Texas.
Posted by: The ARC of History! at December 23, 2021 10:15 PM (I2/tG) That's a good way to consider it, and is also how I feel about Minnesota. Had I bought a nice house in the burbs in the 80s, and thus gotten in when the getting was good, it would have been a much more comfortable experience. As it was I was just one of the many Morlocks breaking even in Rentville despite having a theoretically high paying STEM job. But hey, the oldsters who control local and state government always get their 10% per year house value increase and that's the true meaning of life, right? This is going to blow back on MN a lot sooner than it does CA, because at least the CA Morlocks have the nice weather. I wonder if No-Balz and co realize how much of an existential threat remote work is to their system. Posted by: CppThis at December 23, 2021 10:33 PM (UewuT) 110

My was 2nd daughter was born 12:32 am on Christmas Day. She beat out the hispanic couple having their first for the honor of being the first Christmas baby delivered at that hospital that year. By 3am, I was home sippin' bourbon and smoking a cigar on the back porch, looking up at God's little lanterns in HIS heavens, hanging in the cold clear night air. For a brief moment, life was soooo sweet. This is a cherished memory.

Maybe management is stupid enough to do it again but it'll just end up the same way. If companies were smart what they'd do is ask their employees to be onsite maybe one day a week so a 2-3 hour commute on the long day is viable. So, for example, a company based against all logic in the People's Republic Of Minnestoooopid could keep its office there but employees could live in the Free State Of South Dakota or the Occasionally Free State Of Wisconsin. And if Looting Day happens to fall on that onsite day, well, maybe this week's onsite system testing can wait. Posted by: CppThis at December 23, 2021 11:05 PM (UewuT) 228

Christmas song I can't stand: Last Christmas, by George Michael.
I love pop music. I love George Michael's pop music. I took my wife to see him at MSG for what turned out to be his last concert in NYC, and we both loved it, even though I had a feeling that I wouldn't be seeing him live after that night. That said, this song, while it has an incredible hook which makes it earworm bait, just repeats the same verse over and over again, and it's not anything like a Christmas song, other than the fact that his heart was broken on Boxing Day - which isn't even Christmas. It annoys me. I hate this song. The fact that the hook stays in my head even though I hate the song makes me hate the song even more. *end rant* Posted by: Darrell Harris at December 23, 2021 11:06 PM (mdjgu) 231

Posted by: Bertram Cabot, Jr. at December 23, 2021 10:54 PM (63Dwl) I don't think anyone added more jobs to the economy than Trump did during the depths of the government-generated C19 depression last year. At one point, IIRC, we had over 20 million unemployed, and the MFM was expecting that number to extend into November, ending Trump's reelection chances then and there. The economy added enough jobs to get us back to the unemployment level that Trump had when he took office back in 2017. That's adding jobs. Democrats have historically treated blacks really, really badly. I didn't have anything to do with that. My ancestors moved to the midwest long after the Civil War.
The fact that today's democrats, for selfish and vile reasons today want to hang all THEIR their shit on me and gin up hatred and division amongst Americans is completely unforgiveable. The Band of Brothers. They were war worn at the end.
Good series and supposedly somewhat true. Posted by: SoFar 506th "Easy" company existed. A lot of the shows had interviews with the real surviving members of 506th E company. The characters in the series had real -life counterparts. I can imagine some things were kind of amped-up melodrama, but most of it was fairly true. The REAL Dick Winters talked about it. One of the things the got wrong was the one character Albert Blythe, who was wounded and supposedly died after the war. He actually lived, and later served in the Korean War. He was not the lackadaisical PFC portrayed in the show. Posted by: The ARC of History! at December 24, 2021 12:02 AM If the data showing that (1) the vaxxines weaken people's immune systems and (2) the vaxxines only provide temporary protection against the original COVID and not future variants, then this makes sense. As far as I know, everyone is still receiving shots and boosters that were all designed for original COVID. So millions upon millions of people now have protection against a virus/disease that is no longer spreading and a weakened immune system to fight against (1) future variants and (2) all other viruses/illnesses. So this leaves people susceptible to get sick from a non-COVID illness, go in the hospital and then "test positive" for COVID. And they'll be counted as a COVID illness. Perfect scenario for Plandemic to continue. Posted by: Clyde Shelton at December 24, 2021 12:10 AM (Do5/p) 391

I think that acquiring immunity through infection is a lot more effective against Omicron than being vaccinated (due to Omicron being so different). When you say that "the unvaccinated" are less likely to get Omicron, what you are saying is that the group of people more likely to have had a prior infection are better protected. Posted by: The ARC of History! at December 24, 2021 12:15 AM I'm wondering if the same holds true for illnesses in general. For example, I have never gotten a flu shot in my adult life. I'm 45. I think I needed to get one at 14 before entering high school. But that's the last time I may have gotten one. I have never had the flu. I also rarely have been sick in general in my adult life. In the past 22 years since college, I can think of two times I have been sick more than 2 days. Sinusitis about 5 years ago and stomach flu or food poisoning (never figured out which it was) about 4 years ago. That's it. Posted by: The ARC of History! at December 24, 2021 12:15 AM (I2/tG) Why that almost sounds like you think the human body's natural (and admittedly imperfect) infection response developed over millennia against a variety of infectious diseases is better than that of a vaccine cooked up in a lab funded by people that hate your and your very existence! ((HUGS)) NotoriousBFD. My family isn't paranoid but no one is traveling the 100s of miles. My workplace is paranoid. I get to keep my job yay WFH and I don't get a vibe of any of the immediate group I work with being scared silly of the un-vaxxed. But I did call in to a townhall they held in October and there were a lot of Qs from staff wondering if mandate exemptions will be made known cuz they want to know who they have to be really germ phobic with. So I feel like I should avoid out of office activities cuz there might be quietly paranoid folks even in our small group. Even with just co-workers it is just sad to feel like they might fear my presence, as though I might be a typhoid Mary equivalent.

I should be concerned, since I'm triple-vaxxed, but it's still pretty funny, given all the venom directed at the unvaccinated over the next few months. LOL. I once went to a conference in Phoenix during the winter. It was in the 70's in Phoenix, and ice storming at the Portland airport. Most of the airlines had shut down, but Southwest was still operating. We got on the plane, and the pilot got on the horn, and said that we were going to wait for the deicing truck to get deiced, and then we'll go. The truck came up, deiced us, and the plane started backing up as soon as the truck was clear, taxied to the runway, made a right turn onto the runway, and the pilot gunned it down the runway without stopping (deicing doesn't last very long, and the pilot had obviously finished all his preflight checks at the gate). I thought: "I like this pilot." Posted by: The ARC of History! at December 24, 2021 12:45 AM (I2/tG) 464

I broke the gauge cluster off the dashboard and it was hanging by the wires, bent the steering wheel over, broke the windshield with the back of my hand while stopping her head from hitting it, broke another section of the windshield with my head, broke the rear view mirror off, and dented the bottom of the metal part of the dashboard with my knees. There was a forestry road that went over the mountain range from the West Kettle valley to the town of Penticton, on Okanagan Lake. Some hippie with a '46 Dodge pickup got stranded on that road, and wound up selling it to Jim, the local prospector, for a C-note. Jim put a new fuel pump in it, and it ran like a pup. Fast forward two weeks. I had a day off, and Jim's son, known as Sonny, offered to take me on a ride up the East Kettle Valley to go look at a car for sale, so off we went in the pickup. Coming back, he was sriving too damned fast, drifting that tall skinny thing through the bends in the gravel road. I said, "slow down, Sonny, you're going to roll this thing." No sooner had I spoken, but he dropped a rear wheel off the road, and we rolled onto a flat studded with boulders. Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at December 24, 2021 01:09 AM (P3gRi) 493
One of my shootin' partners was a no-shit former SF type, then a private Corporate Mercenary, operating a LOT in the Tunisia area.
Hardly a nick anywhere on his seemingly velveteen hide, anywhere. But the dude had spent a decade In The Shit, and had a credible body count in the low 100s. As in witnessed, documented and duly (often grossly) photographed. Only apparent wear and tear on him was his elbows, from lots of shooting from the prone. Most of us got toughened up through lots of wear, tear and abuse. Friend "X", well.. nicest guy you ever wanna meet. Mr. Nice. Stateside, anyway. I always wished they had given some more thought to what exactly got better about you if you won, beyond the fact that you proved you won. I tried adapting the concept to a few RPG rulesets and never really came up with anything satisfactory.
Posted by: Methos at December 24, 2021 01:06 AM (kOpft) Yeah. IIRC, the series 'tried' to do something about getting the knowledge or fighting style added to your own of the vanquished, but it never really worked. In an RPG, you would almost have to do it as base line XP (earned by just living and fighting) and Hero class xp (earned by defeating immortals.) The question is: what abilities do you give the hero class? Lot of passives, I say. Posted by: Aetius451AD at December 24, 2021 01:10 AM (csEWM) 495
Have you ever had to call in sick?
Posted by: Elijah Price at December 24, 2021 01:00 AM (kOpft) Well, not really. I don't get sick really. Never had the flu, or measles, or chicken pox, no allergies, no headaches, no upset stomach. Things try to get me, but never do. I also heal pretty fast. It's the main reason I won't get the jab. I'm not gonna fuck around with my alien-like immunity system. Smart! I had an underground fire that followed the roots almost to my deck. I didn't realize it was burning until a rain set the ground steaming. I could have lost everything.
Posted by: NaughtyPine - Ruler of All I Behold During Quarantine!!! at December 24, 2021 01:00 AM (/+bwe) Tree was more than 20 feet from the house, which is concrete block on a slab, so not much risk. But I got enough burned to cover what remains with more than a foot of dirt. Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at December 24, 2021 01:12 AM (P3gRi) 497
Well, I extinguished the tree root fire in the pit. It probably would have gone out on its own, but one cannot be too careful. Burned enough of the roots to backfill the hole and call it good. Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon The coal seam fire in Centralia, PA that has burned underground for decades now reputedly started from the town burning trash in their dump. The combustion got into the coal seams beneath the town from a seam that was near the surface. That was a clusterfark from the outset and now the area of the town is unlivable and nearly everything is demolished. A person affiliated with our scout troop called Centralia home at one time, but no more. Posted by: Krebs v Carnot: Epic Battle of the Cycling Stars (TM) at December 24, 2021 01:14 AM (pNxlR) 498

...and we rolled onto a flat studded with boulders.
To finish the story, I think I bent the steering wheel over with my shin. There was lumber and spare wheels and pails bouncing all over the place. Sonny took out the windshield with his face, but was not seriously hurt, but was pretty shocked. Truck wound up on its wheels, and still would run, but it was pretty messed up. You could spin the steering wheel around and round, and sometimes it would catch something. I drove the truck about 15 miles back to Beaverdell, and it took several hours, herding it between the ditches. Jim was mighty pissed off at Sonny for wrecking a good truck. This was around 1970. Posted by: NaughtyPine - Ruler of All I Behold During Quarantine!!! at December 24, 2021 01:19 AM (/+bwe) Underground coal fires are a thing. There was one in Drumheller, Alberta, years ago, too. Sometimes caused naturally, by spontaneous combustion, or touched off by lightning or a forest fire. When a town is involved the big risk is carbon monoxide poisoning from escaping fumes. Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at December 24, 2021 01:24 AM (P3gRi) 504
Least favorite Christmas song? Easy: Jimmy Durante's version of "Frosty the Snowman."
I don't mind the song itself; I just find Durante's version horribly annoying and I hate listening to it. I tell my Alexa app to skip it whenever it comes on. Posted by: Ex-liberal at December 24, 2021 01:26 AM (20v0t) 505

The Beatles had a special album every Christmas sent out to members of their fan club. These recordings are pretty funny. Their actual Christmas songs blow chunks, as well as financial or political advice. Lennon in particular really flipped his noodle, practically anything after "Turn off the old mind, relax, and float downstream" is for the most part unlistenable. Multi-millionaires lecturing us on materialism. Yeah, STFU asshole, and sing.

Phillips? Never heard of that place. Sorry it closed down. I grew up in South Bend. Dad would always take us to Phil Schmidts restuarant on the way home after a trip to Chicago. Platters of perch and frog legs. They closed down too I heard. Have not been back to those parts in years. I miss the food of my youth from places like that.
