Brandon: I Sure Wish I'd Thought of Ordering Rapid Test Kits Two Months Ago
At the beginning of December, Jen Psaki sneered at the idea of just sending Americans rapid testing kits so that they'd easily know if they had covid. She thought it was the silliest idea ever, and mocked the reporter for suggesting such a thing.
At a press briefing on December 6, Psaki was asked if the U.S. should follow the example of other countries and provide at-home tests free of charge. Psaki said the administration had "quadrupled the size of our testing plan, we've cut the cost significantly over the past few months, and this effort ensures you're able to get your tests refunded, and means 150 million Americans will be able to get free tests." When she was asked whether the system of reimbursement through health insurance was too complex, she appeared to mock the idea of sending Americans free tests. "Should we just send one to every American?" Psaki asked, adding: "Then what, then what happens if you, if every American has one test? How much does that cost, and then what happens after that?"Stupid people get snarky and mean when they're caught out of their depth, which is always, because they're stupid.
And now that omicron is spreading rapidly and oh boy it sure would be nice if people could just run an in-home test to find out if they should stay home for five days, Biden will be sending out at-home test kits to Americans. And they should arrive here... sometime in January. Or later. When the omicron surge will probably (hopefully) already be over. And Brandon says, Gee willickers, I sure wish I'd thought of sending out test kits two months ago, which people were telling me to do two months ago, when my staff was sneering at them with anger born of stupid, incompetent defensiveness.
On December 7, Psaki again defended the administration's policy of "ensuring that everyone in America has access to free testing, whether at a doctor's office, pharmacy, community testing site, or, now, at home." She said the administration's policy was "not to send everyone in the country a test just to send--to have millions of tests go unused where we know others can make use of them."
Biden announced earlier this week that the government will send out half a billion tests to Americans for free. The administration expects the first batch of tests from manufacturers to be ready in January and will roll out a website for ordering tests once the shipment arrives. The news came as communities experienced shortages of over-the-counter tests, as well as public testing sites plagued with long lines and wait times, ahead of the holiday weekend.Friends of mine may or may not have covid, and have gone to the drug stores for OTC tests -- the shelves are empty. But it's just like Karen not getting her Peloton on time.

The administration was widely criticized just weeks ago for not providing free tests to households as other countries like the United Kingdom and Germany have been doing.

I got into this a little bit at the end of the last thread, but I've discovered that corporate types don't consider the test kits to be a fully valid test result--they want you to go a doctor or test site anyway. So while I actually do understand where the Biden crew is coming from as far as making the tests available, I don't think that it's actually going to have the sort of impact that they want.

I don't get the deal with testing. Saw pics of lines of people in NYC (I think) lining up to get tested. What's the point? All this testing like it's some magic elixir is weird.

Nothing, which is one of the ironies of test mania. Testing helps build a statistical model of the outbreak (assuming the tests work), but we don't use them otherwise. For one thing, PCR takes to long to make diagnostic or treatment decisions (though rapid tests are fast enough). But more to the point, we don't really treat COVID until you're at death's door. There's no formal treatment regimen. If there was such a thing, testing could be very valuable. Get sick and take a test. If positive, you get things like Ivermectin and vitamins. If you don't improve by day 6 or 7, you get monoclonal antibodies. Etc.
But since there is officially no outpatient treatment for COVID, the test is of little value diagnostically or in terms of treatment because you're not going to get treated until you've almost expired.

I used the test, barely touched my nostrils and still got a positive result, which made me extremely suspicious. It was only the fact that I lost my sense of smell and taste for a while that I could confirm I was indeed wong fonged by the ding dong, otherwise I would have just thought it was a bad cold.

i should add that he was a small business owner trying to deal with the business closures due to covid (and his was a public-facing business) and his stress levels were high. Sure a lot of you went through that, too!

My friend caught Covid two weeks ago, almost a week after he got the booster. His son had it, too.
He had a bit of a sniffle, some body aches, felt better in a few days later but he still quarantined for 10 days. He's a year younger than me, not in the greatest of shape, a bit overweight but not bad, has high cholesterol, but that's it.
If he had no problems, then it's really not going to be a problem for anyone else.

Yeah thats why Im actually glad I lost my sense of smell/taste for about 2 months because thats a distinctive symptom of the wuflu and confirmation I needed, since that never happened to me when i got a normal cold.
It gave me the confidence that I was naturally immune and could visit my family in peace for the holidays without worrying I was going to pick it up during my travels. Fucksi can suck my naturally immune ass now

That is the idea, I think.
There are several.....five, six, more?.....proteins on a covid virus that your body can make antibodies against.
The vax only gives you antibodies against one; the "spike" protein.
If that one has mutated enough in Omicron, the virus will get past vax immunity and let people's natural immune systems make antibodies against all of the proteins. Then you're "safe" unless Covid mutates enough that all of those antibodies fail.

I've lost multiple friends and family members to COVID. Some vaxxed, some not. The only common thread were comorbidities, most of them respiratory. It's not surprising to anyone who has actually read how the virus attacks your body and who the most vulnerable populations are.

One thing about testing that might make it useful, ascertaining when you got infected. It's actually very risky to get vaccinated too soon after already being infected. The peer (yes PEER reviewed) studies I read suggested waiting SIX months after infection to vaccinate safely, or the amount of excess antibodies could cause inflammatory disorders.

When I had COVID the quick test said negative. Ditto for several others I went with. The PCR tests all came back positive. Those kit tests are garbage and are known to have a high miss rate.

The mother in law didn't like having the oxygen concentrator running, so she would unplug it for days at a time. It would only get plugged back in and turned on when we would go visit, and then would refuse to go to the doctor for treatment until he needed to go to the ER. Lack of oxygen does many things to the brain.

I have a friend who got it and had to be admitted and undergo monoclonal treatment, he warned me I could wind up hospitalized, but he was morbidly obese, so for me it was just like a cold and I stayed at home till it passed. He was genuinely surprised I took it so easily. (I credit keto in part for supercharging my immune system)

i think there is something too "big" about death that makes it difficult for people to contemplate or calculate as far as risk.
Personally I don't think covid would kill me. I'm reasonably healthy, even though i have the comorbidity of being awesome and laying serious pipe all the time.
What I calculate more is the risk of being very, very sick for 10-14 days, which is easier for me to wrap my mind around. I don't want that. I was sick for more than a month combined in 2020, and I don't want to be sick again. It sucked. It was absolutely miserable.
I don't wear masks unless i'm required to or that kind of s*** but if I thought i had covid i'd get tested because you know i'm taking hcq and ivermectin.

the free tests will give a great opportunity to do some home testing on the free tests. You can have your kids do science projects where they give each family member 4 tests each and write down the results to see the efficacy of the tests.

If you fall in certain categories, they will now give you immediate monoclonals or now the Pfizer med at positive test time...not a lot of categories get that, but b/c I fall in one (blood cancer), I know what to do. The spouse is on the hook if I feel sick on pretty much taking me to a test (since we don't have at home ones, but I'd need to get a doc test anyway) and then the antibodies the next day (we also get priority vs any other people waiting for the monoclonals)...

All the symptoms fit, and it was notable that all of his doctors (good hospital, too) were mystified because none of their standard treatments had any effect. Once Adult Protective Services decided to do something, a week before his death, we were told it would be at a minimum 6 weeks before they could get a hearing with a judge, and if the mother in law got an attorney, it would then be another 6 weeks for the hearing.

You're like 99.99% of everyone. Yeah, it might be all BS, but if I can take a vaccine, or get tested regularly, be prescribed meds that help if I am infected, then I am not as much worked up as a lot are here about some of the testing protocols.

and even if most brown recluse spider bites will be non-fatal, you probably do not want the bite. the bites are nasty even when non-fatal.
Yeah my best friends sister got bit by one. Pretty bad. Had a huge gaping wound on her upper arm, ending up having to have a skin graft.

You may scoff but remember the 'Ebola Nurse' during Obama's reign of error. Way back then I posited the idea that if blood coagulation was part of the end stage of Ebola, there was a well tested, dosage known, readily available medication to prevent blood coagulation.
Check the wiki now... it's denigrated but accepted as a treatment.

This is more bullshit theater to act like they're skiing something helpful. Like when they made rules saying places needed to check vax records....in a month. Everything is about talking a big talk now, then having it go into effect in a month, when we know the numbers will be down, so that they can claim they were the reason the numbers are down.

Also the idea this will do anything is silly. The wacko liberals will use their tests the second they stub their toe, since they probably believe a stubbed toe is a sign of covid. The liberals who believe they are in the elite will ignore their results because they don't care if they infect the daily scum around them. And everyone else probably won't get their kits until next September.
