Mornin', folk,
Up early to work out. It's 48 F., 'bout time say I, and I'll need to bundle up a little bit, but that's fine. My last 2 days of work before Jan. 5! Chekov the Ailing Codger Cat is doing well this morning; he usually does seem to improve a bit overnight, and slide down into a less active state by evening. Sort of like his hooman. GRIT was running How the West Was Won overnight, and I caught the last 20 minutes, the climax on the train. It is still enormously effective -- though, as a writer, I nitpick that there seems to be little reason for the chains holding the logs onto the flat car to part suddenly, or for the pin between that car and the car ahead of it to come loose, or for the rail to split and allow the final crash. But while you're watching it, you're caught up in it . . . which is the point of good entertainment.

Farmville expired because Flash expired. Because Adobe went all Soviet to try and airbrush the app out of existence. One of the replacements is "Electron", which from what I understand, is basically a full install of Chrome, just not with the Chrome name. And also from what I understand, the disk space taken up for this not-Chrome install is in the hundreds of megabytes... each. Tell me: Since Electron is a self-encased bundled Chrome package... what happens when a major flaw is found... and you have 5 or 10 different apps using Electron? Some of which you aren't even aware actually use it? Adobe was horrible, but at least they did have a system to patch Flash when there was a problem. But given what we've seen with NPM, either things aren't going to get patched, or there's a chance malicious code is going to get into your Electron app. Posted by: Another Anon at December 20, 2021 08:36 AM (bW28E) Posted by: m at December 20, 2021 08:59 AM (PfCJx) Processing 0.02, elapsed 0.0286 seconds. |
