It took them hundreds of attempts but the figured out the conditions to get just what you saw. Everyone assumed those bullet guys were lying and made it up, but they may have well lucked out and hit a one in a million shot.Unexpected friends:

That bullet spinning on ice video is from 2005.
More on Mythbusters. They tried to recreate that "in the lab" with test ice blocks and all that. They could not replicate, but they did recover a pristine bullet, which was cause for optimism.
They went out to a real frozen lake and were able to replicate that spinning on the ice effect. The angle had to be just right, and cause the bullet to bounce backwards from my quick reading over of a description.

Still don't understand it.
Was shooting some steel at the end of the day yesterday and while I've never had any issues with own set-up, I have been hit by jacket fragments bouncing straight back in matches (no big deal as long as eye protection in place), so I was standing off a bit further than usual. In this case the bullet hits a loosely hanging steel plate, pushes the plate back a bit, and angles down into the soft earth.

From reading that Mythbuster's description. If the angle of the bullet is too steep, it just deforms in the ice. Too shallow, and it just skips off. But there is a narrow window were some interesting shit can happen.
It's some complexity of the interaction between that bullet and the ice. What apparently has to happen is the ice absorbs enough to the forward momentum/energy of the bullet, but still gives a tiny little backward kick. The spin rate is not slowed materially. But the ice does kill most of the translational momentum.
They could not get that with blocks of ice. It had to be on a YUGE frozen lake. That is, a big mass of ice.
It would be interesting to do high speed camera footage of that. They should have done that.

Most reasonably sane gunnies know not to shoot into anything but paper targets, properly configured/distant steel plates, plastic liquid containers or large fruit, at a distance, or critters in an uninhabited area. Some newbies might see the ice videos and cook up some really, really dangerously stupid s**t. But Darwin could smile, so that's something.

I'm remembering, you had to get the angle just right. Using a little .22 rifle, iron sights. Too steep, and it would just plop in with a splash and hit the dirt. To little and no cool sound effect.
When just right, you'd get the cool buzzing sound, and you'd see a bigger little plop and ripple in the surface of the water.
Again, high speed cameras would be nice to see just what was going on.

Yes. Not so much deformed. Bullet impacts something, ricochets, and the tumbling (ass over tea kettle) makes the whir/whine.
Diff rounds make diff sounds (mass affecting tumble rate) and velocity upon ricochet changes the tone, too. 5.56 vs 7.62 vs .50 vs 25mm. Never been close enough to a tumbling 120mm to hear that.
Time in a target pit is a good training experience.

Well, the original QWERTY was designed specifically to slow the typist so the typewriter wouldn't get tied in knots. I remember waaaay back just about the time the Macintosh became a thing that everybody was predicting we'd be changing to DVORAK. Never happened.
And it's going to take people adopting it to take off. Of course a good typist is going to be fighting muscle memory, that's a lot of deprogramming. In my case, my first typing class was in 1973. I don't think I could ever change. 4 hours though is a joke. Maybe 4 weeks.
I wonder if any studies have been done to figure out just how great the gains would be? I suppose of course it depends on the type of business, but with the gains in OCR et al, I'd think that sort of data input is no longer a thing - when there used to be companies dedicated to that stuff.

The Imperial Japanese Navy discovered during test firings at target hulks in the 1930s that shells entering the water a bit short of the target, at the right entry angle, would follow a trajectory hitting the side of a target hulk below the typical location of the side armor belt.
The IJN did a lot of research on this phenomenon, and designed special nose shapes for their big gun shells, to optimize underwater trajectory. The problem with this is that the Japanese intentionally aimed a tiny distance short of the sides of US ships, trying to get the marvelous underwater/below armor belt hits. Yet there are so many variables that getting those marvelous hits in combat was highly unlikely. I believe the US Navy determined that only a handful of hits on our ships may have been from the special shells.

Um, well, Dvorak IS a lot more efficient, once you're used to it ... but it takes a lot more than 4 hours to make the transition! On the alphabetic keyboard, only two letters are in the same places (A and M), and it takes a while to get used to the differences. I'd say a week minimum?

As I mentioned earlier today my buddy that works ICU in SoCal told me they're out of some pretty standard drugs for keeping people alive. I asked if they could source from other hospitals - It's a nationwide shortage. He said that I didn't want to know the drugs that we're all about to be out of soon. All because of the supply chain BS.
But of course, there's lots and lots of jab juice. I have to wonder just what the reaction is going to be when suddenly people can't get their insulin or statins. That might be about as close to not having food as we've seen. How's the media going to spin Joe's awesome job? I got a Christmas card from my TLM parish. On the back was a little review of the year, mentioning the dedication of the new gatehouse, the uncertainty over Traditionis custodes and visits by the various vicars of the FSSP.
What was surprising was that the parish increased from 480 to 620 families in the last year; it was about 200 when I joined. We have five Sunday Masses and people are still falling out the doors. The sanctuary is becoming too small for the numbers attending.

Post Covid they've had to implement the scheme I've told you about with $30/hr bonus for the first 8hrs worked over your assigned shifts and increasing to $60/hr after that per pay period.
Well now, for the Holiday, they're increasing it to a flat $72.50/hr right out the gate with an added $75/135/200 shift bonus depending on a 4/8/12hr shift. Then, after the holiday, it goes back to what we're at now with the $30/60 scheme, except they're adding an alternative to still earn the $72.50/hr without the bonus if you agree to a 12 week contract picking up assigned overtime. Lol"

It is my tinfoil hat theory that they are using the sports leagues to spread the panic and hysteria. They've been cancelling and postponing games in NFL, NHL, NBA and NCAAM for last couple weeks, blaming is on "major SURGE in cases!!!!11ty!!" And now we're about to hit college football bowl season over the next 3 weeks. Then into NFL playoffs and Super Bowl in 8 weeks, I think.
When they first started this Plandemic in March 2020, they hit sports first, cancelling March Madness was the first step. Then within a week the lockdowns started.

Not quite, Kavanaugh can issue a stay on the lift of the injunction by 6th Circuit but only until he discusses matters with the other 8 justices usually a couple of days. If 4 vote to grant cert, then most probably a Scotus stay will be issued. It is not really a discretionary matter for Kavanaugh.

ICUs are at capacity solely because hospitals nationwide dumped a bunch of their capacity at the start of Covid last year to save money and never ramped it back up. So they can correctly claim a scary high ICU usage percentage, but it's all smoke and mirrors.

But even without working or thinking too hard about it, how many other rulings just in recent years could be described the same way?
Think the problem with the judiciary is two-fold (at least). There's the enormous institutional collapse, constitutionally, where the judiciary simply has far too much say over far too many things (mostly a result of congressional abdication of its responsibilities).
But there's also the human problem. Simply not capable or suitable people for the jobs. If what are essentially super-clerks are going to become gauleiters and CPSU republic central committees, they at least should be staffed with capable people. The ignorance, unworldliness, even leaving aside the alien mentalities, so evident in the courts are stunning, and disastrous for the country.

I'm just saying that seems like a crazy risk for an insurance carrier to assume. To even have such a policy in place is to admit to being a lying organization.
The reason I ask this is the usual dolts on Twitter are spinning Sandmann's recent settlement with NBC as being nuisance value only, and that the confidentiality agreement is in place at the insistence of NBC's insurance carrier. (NBC would LOVE to tell everyone their insurance paid Sandmann only pennies, but gosh-darnit that mean old insurance policy insisted on a confidentiality agreement, so I guess we'll never know).
For my money, to even have such a policy in place is to admit to being a lying bastard. It's so easy for a media company to not get sued for libel/slander. If they were the least bit honest they could assume the risk themselves.
